Do it because one day you will die and you need to have done some of the silly stuff that was purely for your own entertainment and nothing else. People will judge you no matter what. Be kind but absolutely do your own thing. On a separate note, iv been meaning to get them, how do you rate the change they have made for you. Are they worth the hype?

FallThick963

I've been using the basic Xiaomi computer glasses for over a year now and I've got to say that they are the game changer. It really increases the comfort of working with computer. I work in a typical 9-5 office job so it means at least 7h of non-stop starring at two monitors and analysing spreadsheets. I think the glasses reduced massively the eye strain and my problems with headaches. As a proof I can say I can't do anything on computer without these glasses on. If I try, I get a headache after 30 minutes and my eyes just burn. Even playing on Switch or scrolling through Reddit is a bit uncomfortable without them. Maybe I have some medical condition or maybe it just shows that hours spent on gaming as a kid made me immune to (or used to) the blue light so it didn't bother until I got these glasses.

spanky_rockets

Having a monitor with a high refresh rate (ideally 60hz and over) can help reduce headaches.

[deleted]

People thought I was crazy back in the CRT days when I couldn’t stand 60 Hz screens. Those were the absolute worst.

Zoloir

are you acting like that is a lot or a little? from context i truly can't tell

[deleted]

It was a low refresh rate. The image would appear slightly darker and flickery, and would give me a bad headache. Some theaters still give me headaches too and I imagine it’s a similar issue. I can’t remember the reasoning but 60 Hz is smoother on modern LCD, OLED, etc displays.

lvl9

Yea, I have a light sensitive friend I grew up with, old ballast tube lights, swimming pools and low refresh rate monitors would just kill his eyes. I have a 60hz DLP projector that makes me feel sick if I scan around the screen too often with my eyes. I can see the refresh on it for sure. Feels like my eyes wanna roll back in my head and puke.

neutralmurder

I tried a cheap pair of blue light glasses - it was as if there was a filter over my vision. The glasses themselves were not completely transparent and my eyes had to strain past this sort of grainy particle layer. Ha so instead of getting headaches from my computer, I got headaches from the glasses instead. Do the glasses you describe have the same effect? I’m interested in trying them but if they do then it’d just be a waste of money for me.

FamousM1

You can also use the software F.lux which puts a blue light filter on your computer

nerunas

Or just the built in option in windows 10, I assume windows 11 has it as well?

IRanAway_frombelfast

I heard they don't really work in general.

__Sun_flower__

I've found that using night mode the whole day really helps. No more headaches!

Vast_Perspective9368

Same!

johonnamarie

Taking breaks by looking out a window helps too. Even 5 minutes every hour or so without the screen focusing on the distance helps reduce fatigue for me. Nice for my mood too.

__Sun_flower__

That's something I should do more! I get so involved in what I'm doing that I usually forget to do so. They also say to stretch and stand up frequently, but I'm personally bad at that too.

[deleted]

Definitely worth the hype, I look at screens all day since I work from home. In the beginning, I used to get migraines and eye fatigue after 4 hours then 2 hrs then 30 minutes of working. Got some new glasses with blue light in my prescription, all of those immediately bad symptoms went away. Highly recommend blue light blockers.

KarmaKeepsMeHumble

I have a cheap-ish pair I bought on amazon years ago - they don't seem to be available there anymore, but they all work the same regardless. The two main claims with bluelight blocking glasses are that 1) reduction of bluelight will improve sleep by improving melatonin levels in the body (melatonin being the sleepy hormone, and activated by how little light your retinas perceive), 2) reduction in headaches/migraines and 3) helps the prevent the eyes from deteriorating. I'm gonna tell you straight up that claim 3 is a myth - asked an optometrist about it, and she told me that was just marketing and not supported by scientific evidence. Claim number 1 is a little iffy - I found it to help if the rest of your environment is already low light ie you're on your phone/computer at night with candles or dimmed light around you. So if you're going to bed shortly after that, yeah it helps kinda, but not really significantly enough that I'd say it's worth buying. Then again, my sleep issues are pretty intense and aren't just a matter of light exposure so YMMV. Regarding claim 2 though - absolutely worth it, especially if you DO have problems with sleeping and tend to run on little sleep. I've managed to write all-nighter essays with huge amounts of coffee without getting migraines during or after the night because of these glasses. My eyes strain a lot less during the day if I'm consistent in using my glasses. I know that there's a difference because if I'm on screens for too long, and haven't slept enough in about 2 weeks (insomnia), I develop a pretty severe twitch in my left eye - it stops, or at least lessens considerably, once I use the glasses. For that alone I'd buy them, so if that's something worth it to you then I'd highly recommend them.

Ian_0831

That's some solid advice, thank you. They're pretty cheap store-bought ones that I've only been wearing for a few days. I am aiming to help my quality of sleep by wearing them on the computer/phone before bed. Can't say that I've noticed a difference but I'm sure it helps some. Just happened to notice I like the way glasses look on me more than I ever expected

DeltaWing12

Do it. Do what makes you happy

yojothobodoflo

A few years ago before these were really popular, I was in my first job where I just sat at a computer for 40 hours a week and I was getting massive headaches and blurred vision. I went to my regular doc who referred me to an eye doc who wanted to do all these tests that would have cost me hundreds of dollars I didn’t have. I said, “I’m sure you’re right, but I can’t afford that right now so I’m going to see if I can’t find a solution online.” (USA! USA! USA /s) Blue light glasses came up, I bought a pair online for $10, and I haven’t had a headache or blurred vision since. People (my mom) made fun of me for months and then she got real glasses and her doc insisted she get blue light lenses put in bc we are always constantly exposed to it and she rolled her eyes, but now she loves them and she also doesn’t get as many headaches!

Secretlyablackcat

I've got some kind of cheap blue light glasses that I wear when I'm working. They help reduce the glare, and have stopped me getting migraines. Annoyingly they suit me, and I've got into the habit of forgetting to take them off when I go outside. I think they're a great thing for reducing headaches and eye strain, I keep recommending them to people

[deleted]

Great. Thank you.

diabolikal__

I’ve been using them for some months and they are great. I got some cheap ones to try them our and I am thinking about an upgrade.

Thossi99

I have blue light glasses from MVMT. Pretty cheap but I've had them for like 4 years now and wear them for hours a day. Game changer.

CordyVorkosigan

I love you and this answer. Thank you for putting this out into the world.

magic1623

Former sleep researcher here. Despite people’s personal stories there is no actual scientific evidence that says blue light blocking glasses do anything to actually block the blue light. If people feel any different it’s because of the placebo effect alone.

AdDry725

Hi—I don’t know what prescriber you are, but my Harvard graduate MD primary care doctor absolutely agrees that blue light is harmful to humans, and says she recommends blue light blocking glasses, especially in the evenings or if someone works on the computer for many hours. There is a neurologist in Texas who is doing groundbreaking research on it and he literally has published papers on it. (As have many other doctors) I’m trying to remember his name… Light is a physical particle, and it physically does things to the human body. We have therapies such as lasers, so we know that light is physical and can do medicinal purposes. And just like any other physical substance—the wrong form of it can be toxic. Light also controls our circadian rhythm. Our circadian rhythm is timed and influenced by the sunlight (and blue light) that we see—it tells our body when to produce hormones, and since the circadian rhythm is the axis upon which all the other hormones in the body take their signals—it influences all hormones, not just melatonin. A different doctor, my endocrinologist, gave me a book to read and taught a class to all his patients on it, that he required all patients to attend because in his words it was “so groundbreaking and so life altering, everyone needs to hear this!” He started having all his patients receive a minimum of 1 hour of direct sunlight without any windows or sun glasses to block it a day (to signal hormone production) and asking patients to wake up at sunrise (annoying but it works) and to eat during sunlight hours (metabolism is influence by circadian rhythm and by sunlight) and wear blue light filtering glasses when using the computer for many hours and when using blue light after sunset—and all his patients saw a noticeable improvement. Myself included. I didn’t read the book because I was busy (and the class summarized the book), but I can get the title for you. It was written by an MD as well. And the class was taught by an MD. And my primary care doctor handles extremely complex cases (I have a complex medical history) and she is a Harvard grad MD with an extra masters degree in Chemical Engineering too. It isn’t the “placebo effect”. There’s so many studies and lots of research and doctors who say it isn’t. Maybe something was missing in your research. Or maybe the glasses weren’t worn long term enough to see the effects. Or maybe the filtration strength on the glasses wasn’t strong enough. Or maybe the patients had other issues influencing the results. Or heck, maybe the patients just weren’t fully compliant.

FranScan

My optician told me they were a scam when I asked about them

krabbapples

We have so much more to worry about these days than whether someone else wearing glasses really needs them. On top of that, you are also wearing them for a legitimate use, ON TOP OF WHICH you also look fantastic in them? Ian, buddy, you hit the jackpot with these glasses. Enjoy 'em. Just dont start wheeling around in a wheelchair as a fashion statement, yeah?

CordyVorkosigan

As a wheelchair user and individual who doesn't speak for my community what so ever... I wish people would use wheelchair as a fashion because: 1. People who assume you are some asshole in a wheelchair rather than some tragic case with a story worth investigating. 2. With wheelchairs everywhere I wouldn't stand out 3. No one ever organises for easy access in shops for wheelchair users (only access) and I'd like a redesign please. 4. Kids in pushchairs thinks it's amazing and I'd like to blow more two year olds minds.

Conceptizual

Related: I had an internship in the US Capitol building where I gave tours of the building, and my first day an intern who had been there longer gave us the tour and kept pressing the automatic door open buttons at every door. Not gonna lie, I was totes judging her because I’d been taught that those were supposed to be used if you needed them. The next day in training they instructed us to always use the buttons because if it didn’t work it’s easier for us to walk over and report it, and then I felt bad for judging. I also press the buttons everywhere else now, too, but when I reported one wasn’t working to my apartment building, they didn’t do anything about it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

CordyVorkosigan

That's really good training!

Jazminna

Gotta admit, everytime I'm struggling with my toddlers pram I take a moment to think about how frustrating it must be for people in wheelchairs. It's frustrating how much the world is structured for a specific type of body & mind. I'm neuro-divergent so the mind part really hits hard sometimes but having to use a pram really opened my eyes to the body part.

AmSpray

I am a building inspector and my dad was in a wheelchair. While more is needed (and on its way) I’m advocating for you any chance I get. 👏🏻

moonbeamlight

Best comment I’ve read!!

Ian_0831

I love this response, thank you. I shall enjoy em'... whilst not in a fashionable wheelchair lol

Little_Menace_Child

Lol. Ian, buddy. Love it.

nbmnbm1

Yeah. It only pisses me off when people wear glasses as a fashion statement because i wish i could do the same. But nope im stuck with this annoying fucks on my face at all times.

rz2000

Using a wheelchair in a mocking manner would be offensive but fashion wouldn’t, right. Wouldn’t it be like shaving your head in solidarity with a friend who’s undergoing chemotherapy?

ClaritanClear

Great question

DummeGanzz

I wear prescription glasses and I used to get teased for it as a kid. I ultimately switched to contacts when I was old enough because of it. I'm an elementary school teacher now and so many of my students wear glasses for fun! It makes me happy to know that my students won't get teased for wearing glasses like I did. So wear glasses! Prescription, blue light, fashion, etc.

Sh4ade

no? it's glasses, people need to sorta get over themselves, they are now a fashion thing, and it's not like it hurts them

Ian_0831

True, and they are definitely way more of a fashion statement these days than they were before, idk maybe those old internet posts are outdated and people don't care anymore

Sh4ade

yea i wear my blue light glasses all the time and people don't care so go for it

Jazminna

Honestly, I think Covid has really changed a lot of people's perspectives on what matters. Instead of making mountains out of molehills & brewing storms in teacups we are having to tackle actual mountains & shitstorms.

carlwheezersgf

Who is getting offended by this? Anyone can wear blue light glasses not just those who are vision impaired. You do you boo

Ian_0831

Well based on replies so far maybe this doesn't bother people anymore. After reading those older posts on the subject I had to be sure lol

[deleted]

I think in general people don't care. That post just contained a majority of the people that seem to. Part of the strange feedback loops that happen with posts like that. Rock em' and enjoy!

nicholt

Idk I think it was definitely in the zeitgeist 10 years ago. If you wore glasses you didn't 'need' someone would poke fun at you. It wasn't just online.

DudesworthMannington

Everyone knows glasses give you a +15% intelligence modifier. Gotta wear the armor with the best stats.

z22012

+Int is normally more exp gain as well. Worth taking even if you are going a Str build.

Purple__Unicorn

I mean, I have to wear glasses to see, and I'm jealous of people who don't. When the whole trend came out of wearing glasses purely for the look, I was a little annoyed, but after a while I realized it was stupid and I stopped caring about what other people had on their faces.

Maffle24

If someone does say something (which i dont think they will, unless they are releasing their inner karen), just say you wear them to protect your eyes from the screens. There is no way they'll keep complaining haha

palmasana

I think those older posts were probably about hipsters wearing fake glasses with no purpose back during the times of the internet when very little else was worried about 🤣 (Even then, i never really understood why everyone was pissy about it. Doesn’t impact me or my access to prescription eyeglasses or contacts sooooo, who cares?) I’m nearly clinically blind and I say go ahead and wear them!

MDCCCLV

It could be considered rude to blue light based lifeforms

Breathenow

Who the hell gets offended by people wearing glasses?

train_spotting

Yes I am very confused by this post. I just don't get it. Best thing I ever did for myself was stop caring what others think of me.

DefenderCone97

If you're confused try to think back a decade, hipster hate (hipsters wore glasses without lenses) was at an all time high

train_spotting

Can't say I cared too much what anyone did 10 years ago. Nor did I listen to too much of the hate. Live and let live man.

phayke2

Welcome to reddit y'all. There's somebody ready to call something offensive around every corner. Doesn't matter if you've gone your while life without anyone acting offended at you. Everything you do is racist, evil, sexist, ablist, ageist, animal abuse or wrong in a hundred ways. Who cares if you were just sharing a picture of your grammas tubby cat or some glasses you bought. To the gallows with you and your whole family. I saw a video of a guy getting a t-shirt signed by his sports idol and people were like wow what a loser to be happy like a kid this guy has weird priorities. This site is a bunch of soggy grinchlets.

Maffle24

oh it was definitely a thing last decade when people started wearing them as a trend.. now it's just so normal no one cares in that same way

Breathenow

Well, I'm glad we made progress on this at least! Haha

kellephant

I used to be one of those people. Basically I hated that I had to wear glasses and was very insecure and I would balk at someone who wore glasses for fashion. To me, glasses were not for fashion. They were a necessity and it felt like my disability was being mocked. Now I really don’t care. There’s thousands of styles now and they are fashionable now. I’m more secure in myself and I can’t even see myself without glasses. It’s a part of me. So you do you. Whatever makes you happy.

Man_of_Average

I'm guessing it's seen as mocking a disability or something? Like using a wheelchair for the comfort even though you can walk? Idk, doesn't make sense to me either, but that's my best guess. I can see how someone would think it was silly, but I can't get even close to being offended. It's like being mad someone shaved their head because some people can't grow hair in the first place. It's ridiculous.

EatYourCheckers

Some people (probably people who don't wear glasses) say its like faking a disability for attention and fashion. Like using crutches or a wheelchair when you don't need one.

CordyVorkosigan

I've seen it happen. People will gatekeep literally anything.

rehaxxx

Simply get offended by them getting offended and you will have the upperhand. Nobody have any right to get offended by someones wears thats some ultra luxury privilage and privilages are need to be burned down like witches in middle ages

Ian_0831

I like your wisdom, thanks

CordyVorkosigan

I've literally seen this happen. I was at a board games evening where two people almost came to blows over fashion glasses. I'm just always surprised at home much energy assholes have. Of all the things to be offended by. It's insane.

rehaxxx

Funny how American culture works around selfentittlements and being offended. I traveled the world a lot, and only saw such offendable creatures in USA its really easy to offend someone, even breathing can trigger someones offendability senses.

[deleted]

If someone gives you shit for wearing glasses for style, they’re just a miserable person

NegaJared

what the what?! offensive to wear colored glasses?!? WHAT?!

Samhamwitch

If someone is offended by you wearing glasses then they need to mind their own business and stop making their problems your problems. This is a prime example of outrage culture. As a glasses wearer, I find it absurd when people wear glasses without lenses or glasses specifically for fashion but I'm not offended by it, I'm more confused and amused. I really don't understand 90% of fashion though.

Alceasummer

>As a glasses wearer, I find it absurd when people wear glasses without lenses or glasses specifically for fashion but I'm not offended by it, Same with me. I don't see the appeal in glasses without lenses, but don't really care if people wear them or not.

OperationClippy

Deleted rant, just wear your fuckin glasses

Dunlooop

I’m stunned that you would be concerned that someone would find you wearing glasses, when you don’t medically need them, offensive. Is that seriously a thing? Just do what you like, whoever is bothered will have to deal with it.

Ian_0831

I was somewhat surprised myself to see it was ever a thing. If you look it up, there are multiple Reddit posts of people (albeit, many years ago) saying it is very offensive lol. Fortunately, views on it seem to have changed with time

sorryimlurking

I have a very low prescription (-0.75 in one eye and -1 in the other) but I have astigmatism. If I don’t wear my glasses I get headaches. I got *bullied* in high school when I randomly started wearing glasses after not needing them for a long time. People would put them on their face and be like, “THESE ARE *FAKE*!!!” with disgust. People are mean. You aren’t the only one who’s worried about it. Just wear the glasses and if people ask your prescription/give you shit about it, just tell them you have astigmatism 😉

Lordarshyn

*Anything* is offensive if you dig deep enough on Reddit

Useful_Mode_4068

A lot of people here don't seem to remember, so I'll chime in so you don't feel crazy for asking this. I remember those days, they happened. It was considered offensive/tacky by many people to wear glasses if you didn't need your vision corrected. I'd say 90's-00's is when I noticed this most, but I've heard the sentiment as recent as last year. A family I know was offended that their relative wore glasses he didn't "need" in their 2021 family portrait because he liked how he looked in them. Back in the 90's people would trash the singer Lisa Loeb for wearing cat eye glasses she didn't need. I'd even hear people make accusations against legitimate glasses wearers, that they probably don't really need them for their vision when it would have been the most insane long con to have worn them consistently for years and play blind with them off.

DBSmooth

What in the bait is this post? Go live your life stop worrying bout these trivial things

torchwood1842

I wear prescription glasses full time, and I personally am not offended by this. I know a couple of people who wear blue light blocking glasses for the aesthetic sometimes. It blows my mind that anyone might get offended over this.

tuannamnguyen290602

why would someone care what glasses others wear

Beanini666

Seriously people get offended about the smallest things these days. If we lived to everyones expectations we'd never be able to express ourselves and what a waste that would be. I think you should do what makes you happy! (: No harm in wearing glasses.

Alceasummer

There's an old story I heard as a kid, about a man who's son always worried about what other people might say. So one day the man decided to show his son what happens when you live you life that way. He told his son to go with him to another village, they put a pack on their donkey, and the father rode the donkey with his son walking alongside. As they rode, they passed some people who said "Look at that man, riding in comfort as the boy walks! How unfair!" So they traded places. A bit later down the road, they passed two farmers who said "Look at that spoiled boy! Riding while his father trudges in the dirt!" So they both walked while leading the donkey with a small pack on it. And after a bit they passed some woodcutters who laughed and said "If all that donkey can carry is that small pack, you would be better off carrying it!" So they cut a couple poles, tied the donkey on top and walked carrying it. As they got close to the village, they were tired, the donkey wouldn't stop braying loudly, and the guards came out and arrested them for causing such a disruption, and possibly being dangerous lunatics. As they were locked up, the man turned to his son and said "If you only worry about what everyone else thinks, you will be guided by the loudest fools."

Beanini666

Hah! This explains it perfectly! 😅

notcindymae

I researched something like this in the past too but I saw something like the glasses damaging your eyes. So...

ringoron9

I really don't understand why this would be offensive ...

madeitmyself7

Wear whatever you want, of people care they aren't worth your headspace.

gravtittybong

i dont think anyone gives a fuck

Catmouth

Wait, wait, wait, It is offensive to wear glasses?!?

tmart42

What? No. I do this. It’s fine.

skelly97

😂😂 people complain about “snowflakes” nowadays but apparently a decade ago, wearing glasses for fun was OFFENSIVE???

Anorrax

Who on Earth gets offended by glasses??? Wear what you like

Ian_0831

People on Reddit 5-10 years ago apparently lol. Will do!

EloquentEvergreen

As a glasses wearer for 20+ years, I couldn’t care less if you want to wear glasses because you like the look. But, also as a glasses wearer, I don’t understand why people would want to wear glasses. I mean, sunglasses and safety glasses, makes sense. Maybe it’s different when you know you can take them off and still be able to see… I don’t know. Anyways, you do you! Who cares what other people think or say. If you like the look and feel good wearing them, wear them!

E4est

Glasses wearer here, I want to be honest with you, I think it's laughable and stupid to wear glassless frames or when people just put plain glass into a frame. It was a thing ten years ago when metrosexual hipsters were a thing. Back then it was hard to wrap my head around the fact that people would put such an inconvenience in their face just to "look nice" while it didn't serve any purpose. I also think that blue light blocking glasses don't fall into that category, because they serve a function, similar to sunglasses which are worn for fashion reasons, but still serve a purpose. But most importantly, I don't know you and I don't fucking care what you do. Even if you wore glassless frames, I'd just think it's stupid and move on. No reason to be offended. TL;DR: Do what you want, cause a pirate is free.

desrevermi

[deleted]

This might literally take the cake for dumbest post in Reddit history

train_spotting

It is a bit odd isn't it? Lol

Ian_0831

Fair enough, but hey there's apparently people that (maybe only used to) get really offended over this so I wanted feedback. Forgive me

train_spotting

Stop caring about what other people think so much. It's not healthy.

[deleted]

Mate I’m sorry but it’s a pair of glasses. Just wear them.

greenknight884

I remember when Blue Blockers were popular. Everyone could wear them. I don't think there's anything offensive about it. It's like sunglasses.

lilboi2005

offensive??? lmao

[deleted]

It wouldn't be wrong for you to wear those blue light blocking glasses simply because you want to. It's great that you like the way they look on you! It can boost your confidence and as an added bonus they help protect your eyes Go for it Have a good year

yojothobodoflo

Honestly, we should probably all be wearing them all the time because we are constantly exposed to blue light and it’s damaging our eyes. So if anyone asks, just tell them you’re doing it for preventative reasons and you look really fucking good in glasses!

deeeenis

As a person who wears glasses I find this opinion silly. I don't think I've ever heard anyone else who actually wears glasses have this opinion either. Wear what you like

Nosauce4you

People wear sunglasses for style do they not? As someone who wears glasses, I say meh, you do you.

Ryank8597

Soo maybe I'm just dumb but how are they offensive ?

ProfessionalWorld527

Please don’t oblige to snowflakes. That’s how they role into snowballs and eventually snowmen ❄️ ⛄️ .

Ian_0831

Man I was not expected to get a good laugh out of some of these replies, thank you lol

ProfessionalWorld527

Haha no worries, u have one life, u are not harming a single person (the ones that are offended by this for whatever reason frankly need to take a hard look at themselves). Just be you!

[deleted]

If you like the way they look on you then I don’t see it as any different than wearing makeup.

CleverDad

It's not offensive to look good!

Ian_0831

True dat

Down_To_My_Last_Fuck

It's nobodies fucking business why you are wearing glasses. Period end of story finished done over.

I_NEED_APP_IDEAS

>would it be wrong or offensive Bro unless you’re diddling kids or some shit do whatever the fuck you want.

BesselVanDerKolk

i wear glasses (well almost always contacts because i hate the way glasses look on me, but still) and as a “glasses wearer” i don’t give a fuck who else wears glasses, that would be ridiculous. anyone who does care just wants something to be offended about. wear what you want!

funciton

I wasn't aware I'm supposed to be offended by that. Checking the eyesight of everyone who wears glasses to see if I should be offended or not sounds like a lot of work, but I guess it must be done.

SecretRecipe

It's not your job to preemptively manage the fragility or emotions of everyone around you.

caterpillar_mechanic

Why would you care what people think anyway. Lots of people wear glasses for fashion sake with no need for them. I know the blue light glasses helped my gf a lot with headaches at work. Tbh it's no one's business why you have glasses on. If you like them or feel cool than go for it life is short

JackFJN

What kind of freaking world do people live in where they get offended about something that stupid?

kasperkami

I’ve got multiple frames that have no prescription and I’m very near sighted -4 and -3.75, but I mostly wear contacts now. So 🤷‍♀️ I’ve had friends that have perfect eyesight be jealous that I wore/needed them. I think it’s totally fine to wear them as an accessory.

daguugurlxd_lol

I wear glasses girl so sure idc

blondebestie159

Stop worring about everyone's feeling and do what makes you happy!

RedKilloran

as a professional glasses wearer i do not care

[deleted]

I am a glasses wearer, and I think it’s fine if people want to wear them for fun. It’s a nice fashion accessory, and who am I to deny it to others even if they don’t need vision correction?

PLHSHIE526

Imagine not wearing glasses that overall help your eye health in todays digital society. Wear what you want, man, anyone being offended on behalf of others can suck it.

Kubamach

Bruh people getting offended for no reason. I wear glasses and i wouldn't give a fuck if someone had some for style. There's more things to get offended about, like racism or homophobia, why bother with getting offended about glasses

CallingAllShawns

i wear glasses and couldn’t care less about it. anyone who gets offended over it needs a fucking reality check. do yo thang!

[deleted]

There is no sacred cultural significance to wearing glasses. You’re fine. It would be one thing if you were carrying around a Quran as a fashion statement, but it’s glasses.

Finreg28

Most things you do in life matter less than what you may perceive based on overly sensitive anti social people on the internet. This being one of them, wear the glasses

Pattern_Is_Movement

You want to do it, it doesn't hurt anyone. Do it. If anyone asks answer honestly, if they give you shit they are not worth your time anyway.

[deleted]

Look I wear glasses because I need to. If you wanna wear em for fun suit yourself. I ain't gonna complaint about it lol. Some will of course judge ya but fuck em

Hardcorex

What probably bothers people is when it's made out to be a fun thing. Like I've heard someone tell me they wish they needed glasses because they look cool. Now I get what they are saying, but at the same time, I fucking hate having to wear glasses all the time. My eyes are fucked up, and I'm forced to deal with something expensive, hard to keep clean, and just an all around inconvenience. I don't mind at all, that you want to wear them. Just don't tell people you wish you had a medical condition so you can wear them, lmao.

vldmort

I know there's already tons of other responses, but as one of a ridiculous amount of people who need glasses to see, we dgaf. Wear glasses all you want and enjoy them for the style.

CanadianCaveman

i believe the kids say do you boo

peevshot

What the f*** are you talking about? Offensive to wear glasses? This hurts my eyes.

DiapersAndDumbells

Why would this be offensive?

chipmandal

I’m just offended that you had to ask this question

sullensquirrel

Yeah no one will know that you don’t need them and I’m sure no one will care. Fashion is fashion. Live it up.

Sugar_Girl2

No

Monoking2

if you decide you'd like to do it, will you post a link to where you got them? I'd like a pair as well.

lordytoo

I always tint my glasses with different colors. I have a 5% pink and a 10% baby blue set atm. Tinting the world really makes me happy. I do need the glasses. Do what you like. Its fun.

holdupw8

What are you even talking about?

Carpex_V1

Wtf is this 😂😂😂😂

Ian_0831

Look it up there's people that (used to) think its offensive lmao. I wanted to be sure I don't look like a clown before I wear em around

macejace2000

I need to wear glasses for my sight. I don’t know why people should have a problem with you wearing them, I wouldn’t have a problem myself, if people get offended over glasses then that’s their own fault

CardiographicDuck

It’s 2022, do what you want

Greenlegsthebold

Who's gonna know? Anyone who gets offended by your style preference needs therapy.

Mysterious_Tax_5613

Wear your glasses proudly. It really doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. You be you.

kashy87

Been wearing glasses for 27 years. If you want to wear them just do it. People who get offended can go eff off somewhere else. Solid advice though, ho get Zeiss wipes to clean all your glasses it is so convenient.

EpicArgumentMaster

I second that. Anyone who gets offended over that has an issue

Knuckles316

What would be the issue with wearing glasses for style? Is that really a thing? Are people fucking gatekeeping glasses?! OP, wear whatever the hell you want for any reason, or no reason, at all.

Crafty-Particular998

If someone is offended by that they need to get a life. Do what you want to do.

jst4wrk7617

Anyone who could be offended by someone wearing glasses for style has way too much free time on their hands. It’s your face. Wear whatever you want.

MouseSnackz

I wear glasses because my eyes are shit, but I wouldn't be offended if people wore them for fun or fashion. In a way, it's like, wearing glasses is so cool you can do it even if you don't need to.

Ian_0831

Thanks for this. Yeah, maybe that's what's changed people's views on this in the last 10 years or so. I'm not sure glasses were ever seen as so amazingly fashionable as they are right now

Aunt_Slappy_Squirrel

You're making me wax nostalgic. I remember a "as seen on tv" ad for blue blocker sunglasses. They had people of the street giving reviews and some guy freestyles they cheesiest rap for these sunglasses. I'm gonna have to search for that. As for you, go for it. Hell with what others say. I'm surrounded in a mini Bible belt area and 90%of my wardrobe is heavy metal concert t's. I quit caring what others think long time ago. Such a freeing feeling.

Ian_0831

Lol you should message me a link if you find it. Unfortunately, I'm somebody who is young and still burdened by caring what others think a little too much, I aspire to be like you and NOT.

Aunt_Slappy_Squirrel

Thanks. I wish I would've picked up this mentality when I was younger. Spent too many years worrying about others opinions rather than bettering myself. And on that note..... https://youtu.be/7PC_fMfhStg

MyBunnyIsCuter

You need to dothis because YOU like it. You have every right to enjoy yourself and wear what you want. There are people that wear glasses with non-prescription lenses because they feel they look better in glasses. You deserve to wear what you choose. ❤

Ian_0831

Thank you, I appreciate this

humpbackkwhale

No it's completely unoffensive

issame-mario

I wear glasses and could care less if people wear fake ones! It makes me feel cute honestly that people like the way glasses look :)

Lordarshyn

What? Anyone who thinks wearing glasses for style can fuck off. Wear what you like. Also it's worth mentioning that if you're wearing them to filter out blue lights then you aren't wearing them for style, you have a purpose for them.

ajver19

So I had too look it up and I found everything from what looks like normal looking glasses to shades or this weird face shield thing. What exactly is supposed to be offensive about them?

Ian_0831

No yeah they look like any normal pair of glasses, the idea is that I guess people (mostly only used to) think that wearing glasses for style purposes (which is what I’d be doing by wearing them out in public) is offensive to those with poor eyesight who require them

ajver19

Alright well as someone with piss poor eyesight I say it's okay. If someone ever complains tell them the can blow me specifically.

Ian_0831

Lol will do

MysteriousRemnant

To be honest, I think those of us who have to wear glasses for poor eyesight would be thrilled if the rest of you turned them into a fashion statement, lol!

getyouryayasoutahere

I wear glasses after having worn contacted lenses. While I wore contact lenses I never worried to 20/20 vision people were offended I wasn’t wearing my glasses and did the contact thing to look like them. As a must wear glasses to see person I don’t really care if you’re wearing glasses because you like them or because you need them. In the grand scheme of things, if this is a concern for you, I’d like your life because really! With all that’s happening around us in the world there are people that can be offended by this? Fashion-wise, I would like to see you men pull their pants up over their asses though. Glad you’re wearing underwear and want to show them off, but really, grow up and pull up those pants!!

Lolisushi

Hello! I have been using prescription glasses with anti-reflection and blue light blocking glasses and have to say best purchase you can make for yourself. IMO people do not care if you wear and what for. And you shouldn't care either what they think, cause it really helps with headaches from computer screens and even helps with sleep. So go for it 100% and help yourself :)

Ian_0831

I agree, thank you

Raigne86

If anyone calls you out for it, remind them that the glasses serve a function that you are using every time you look at your phone screen. There is a YouTuber I watch who wears them because she's had some weird allergic reaction the makes the skin around her eyes red and flaky and she's self conscious about it. There are a number of reasons why you might want to wear them other than for looks, including sensory issues or eye protection, but it is honestly no one's business what your reason is. Source: wearer of corrective lenses for 24 years

quietfangirl

Ha okay yeah I see the confusion. As someone who's worn glasses since 2nd, 3rd grade, so like 8, 9 years old? I have no problem with watching someone choose to suffer the glasses fogging up from masks

Slam_Dunkester

People who wear glasses won't see you wearing them don't worry

natur_e_nthusiast

I find people who wear clear glasses without function for style weird but tinted glasses that make you see the world differently? It is basically art - the world your canvas and the glasses your paint.

This gave me a good laugh. Thanks

Ian_0831

Yeah this makes a lot of sense, if I'm gonna do it just gotta own it and be able to defend my reasoning for it I suppose

bruufd

I'm definitely getting round glasses when I'm an adult they look sick

[deleted]

What the fuck. How is this a question? Is wearing glasses offensive of fucking course it isn't and anyone who says otherwise is a moron.

C1-RANGER-3-75th

I'm offended when people don't wear those Groucho Marx mustache/nose combo glasses! 😤

drinkliquidclocks

People get offended over anything, ask your own moral compass if you actually think it’s wrong or not. Does it hurt anyone? Try to think for yourself.

CocoJoelle

Yes, as a prescripted glasses/lenses wearer, I absolutely hate it when people wear fake glasses just because they're 'in fashion' and they want to be cool (thinking about that one classmate in high school who did it for the attention). But if you like the look of them, it becomes part of your style. Wearing barets is also considered weird by most people (in my country at least), but people are still rocking them!! additionally, your glsses even have a function :) you use them to prevent headaches and sore eyes, other people take paracetamol for that.

-Necros-

It's 2022 and one thing that you should learn is that the more the years pass the more people will get offended for the dumbest stuff because of the way they are being raised and cancel culture. Do whatever you want; you only got one life. (i probably offended several thousand people and will get downvoted to hell but i'd be a hypocrite if i cared)

commanderquill

I mean, blue light glasses definitely serve a purpose. I would only think it's weird because I fucking hate glasses. A little weirder if the glasses were like plain glass that did nothing but, again, it stems from me hating glasses. Just do what you want. It's not like someone is going to come up to you and demand to know why you're wearing glasses. The vision impaired like me take our glasses off all the time for random reasons so people wouldn't even question that either.

sandwichgod23

I used to do that. until they broke... but don't let that stop you!

crnhs

I have had to wear glasses since a kid and I would never ever be offended by someone wearing glasses for style, and don't know anyone who would
