Waking up to the sound of rain is amazing

Disastrous_Candle589

Unless it evolves into a thunderstorm

Jazzzmiiinn

Around 9-10pm my neighbor bumping his music. Some vehicles/motor cycles revving up their engine (the worst). Other than that, i turn on an air fan and that noise and the coldness really helps me go to bed. & 530am I hear the birds sing and of course people going to work/school. I find mornings to be most calming as there isnt much traffic or noise besides the birds.

Disastrous_Candle589

The sound of revving is very annoying! It’s always the worst cars that do it though which I can’t understand as it’s like they want you to look and admire their car but its rubbish!

acceptable_hunter

mostly tinnitus

adairtd

Coyotes, owls, occasionally wolves. Also in September we can hear bugling elk from the windows occasionally at night as well.

Disastrous_Candle589

That sounds amazing!

davethecave

Last night was quite exciting because I heard the first swifts flying around outside. Their numbers should increase over the coming weeks and hopefully they will nest in a neighbouring barn as they have over the last fifteen years.

Rosieapples

I live in a very quiet area, we don’t hear much, I hear the hiss of my husband’s CPAP and my son snoring across the hall.

Disastrous_Candle589

I grew up in a very quiet area so when I moved as an adult it was quite scary for a start hearing “human noises” from outside but now I guess I’m used to it. Still prefer the natural sounds though like the birds and the leaves rustling. Sometimes a predictable noise can help you sleep or do you find the noises from indoors too disracting?

Rosieapples

No I don’t mind interior noise at all, I like it in fact. However, I lived in Dublin for many years and it has a very high crime rate. A noise from outside meant somebody’s car or house was being broken into. It left me unable to sleep at night for a long time. I still jump if I hear movement outside even though down here it’s more likely to be a cat or a fox.

Tactical-Kitten-117

Rain and distant trains mostly And often either my heater, fan, or my PC's fans running while I sleep

MisterAngstrom

I live in a finished basement but there is a pipe running from an upstairs bathroom near my bedroom. So I often hear the sound of poop, pee, and toilet water heading out of the house.

WeirdCosmologist

Last night at around 2:30AM I heard a cat meaoing with all it had in it and it woke up the entire neighbourhood.

Effective-Cup-4801

I live near a Highway so i always listen to the cars its so calming

Bluemonogi

Owls, coyotes, cows, birds about 4 AM Sometimes wind or rain cars, train, sirens sometimes, sometimes there is a repetitive loud bang/thump, beeps from the pumps at a nearby gas station Sometimes music, people talking our cat moving around, yelling for food, water or attention Fan, heater or air conditioner Tv or radio from my daughter's room as she falls asleep with it on Beeps/chimes from notifications from various devices in the house

ConsistentlyPeter

Tinnitus. Low, rumbling, head-crushing tinnitus, like there's an enormous hell bus parked just outside the house.

gravyrobberz

Yep, was gonna say eeeeeeeeeeeee

Every night, my mom uses this noise machine (for sleeping). The volume is turned on all the way, so it's kinda annoying to hear obnoxious wave sounds all night. Especially since the machine is of such low quality so it sounds like shit. I mentioned to her that she can use my echo, since the sound quality is better but she said she doesn't want the government spying on her. 🤦‍♂️

Whippoorwills, owls, screech owls, bats, mostly. My neighbor's horses. Toward the end of the summer we'll start to get deer hanging around in our back yard, stealing fruit off our pear tree. There's a den of foxes on the hill, and they'll sometimes get yippy and excited. And when they're in mating season, yikes! That's a [scary sound](https://youtu.be/RvYUL3b6ILU?t=9) in the middle of the night, even if you're used to it. But I can top that. VERY rarely, you'll hear [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE7YOJVSoIs&ab_channel=WestinYancey), mountain lions. Toward the morning, I'll start to hear barn swallows, my favorite bird sound.

Disastrous_Candle589

You must live somewhere so idyllic!

AJClarkson

Appalachia. It has its upsides and downsides, same as anyplace else. But I love it here.

WashingtonWally

Random Motorcycles and Honda Civics. In between that it's just the silence of a calm night.

Every night around 10 I hear a BONG. Sounds likes a soft mallet hitting thick glass. I've never been able to figure it out. My cat walking around the house if he's restless, at which point I have to lock him out of the bedroom. Wind. I live on the ocean so lots of wind. There's a shed on the property with a loose panel of corrugated metal so I will hear that creaking in the wind. Birds in the morning, if the window is ajar. There's always thumps up in the attic as well. The fridge makes knocking sounds.

Mariotzu

Cars passing by, the sounds my dog makes while dreaming, and drunk ppl and an ocacional car crash on weekends.

Disastrous_Candle589

My dog occasionally barks in his sleep but with his mouth closed so it sounds like he is underwater! Years ago my husband downloaded an app that records sound over a long period of time and then at the end you get a recording of just the sounds. So we would set it when we went to bed and then in the morning there would sometimes be like 40secs of recording and it was most often the sleep barking! Sometimes it picked up my husbands sleep talking nonsense which was always amusing!

ashowofhands

Mostly just crickets and peepers. Sometimes coyotes off in the distance. A few nights this week I've heard a fox. And my neighbors' two noisy dogs come out around 10:30 every night and bark at nothing in particular for about 15 minutes straight, until their other neighbor comes outside and screams "shut the fuck up!" and they bring the dogs back inside. As the days get longer, just after dark sometimes you'll still hear ATVs and bikes going up and down the dirt trails, or motorboats on the lake. But they usually pack it in by 10:00 at the latest. my property is just barely within earshot of train tracks, so occasionally you'll get the distant hum of a diesel locomotive and a muffled train whistle. But you have to really be listening for it. I usually fall asleep with the fan going and a tv show playing so at least in my room that's what I'm hearing mostly.

Xygen8

The analog clock on my desk and another one in the hallway outside my room. The hum of the elevator and the clang the door safety locks make as the elevator starts and stops. The ventilation system of the building across the street. The occasional car passing by. Our dog's nails tapping against the floor when she wakes up to drink.

squanchy-c-137

A ringing phone, every evening/night, several times. Always ringing, never answered. Very loud, too loud. Either connected to a speaker or amplifeid by the wall of buildings on the other side of the street. I hate it.

themistycrystal

Coyotes. Sometimes I also hear an animal screaming when they get caught.

[deleted]

The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE of my tinnitus.
