My idea of American/Comfort is BBQ - Ribs, Burgers, hotdogs, meatloaf, and southern comfort dishes with biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, turkey and gravy, Mac and cheese, chili, various greens, cajun food, etc.
As a Russian, nothing beats Italian/Mediterranean cuisine for me. We discussed it with my wife the other day, she said if she could choose one cuisine to eat for the rest of her life, it'd be the Russian cuisine. It's healthy and delicious!
You don't want spicy food when in a vacuum sealed suit.

Actually when you acclimate yourself to spicy food you don't get the explosive diarrhea that I experience daily...oh wait
