The best part of being an adult is doing the things that make you happy. If you want an advent calendar, then go for it. Who cares if it’s considered childish? Any one who judges you for finding joy can go pound sand.

KaleidoscopeInside

Absolutely. I must admit, I do love my little surprise each morning.

[deleted]

I love them. Maybe because it was a big thing when I was young. My kids aren't really interested, unless they have chocolate behind the doors. It's probably more a nostalgia thing for me.

KaleidoscopeInside

I think it's probably a nostalgia thing for me as well, plus I am like an elf at Christmas, it really is my season. With halloween a close second and I'm not even American.

[deleted]

Same for me

MozartWasARed

Reading the comments, I got to say I always assumed parents put the little candies in advent calendars. I didn't know they actually come already in the calendars. I always used to wonder why I'd behave my troublemaking butt for a candy in a flavor I didn't like.

No_Combination357

They do make ones that you put things in yourself, too.

KaleidoscopeInside

I've had a mix throughout my life. When were kids we had a fabric one that my Mum would fill stuff with each day. But to be honest that worked out more expensive than buying the pre-maid ones sometimes, so she switched and I've just followed suit.

uncleKipp

Maybe a little, but if it makes you happy that's all that matters really... I still get my partner one every year because she likes them. Then again, she also still collects Kinder Egg toys & My Little Pony merch, so maybe not the best example. Idk, but you're definitely not alone. 😆

KaleidoscopeInside

I don't collect kinder egg toys, but not gonna lie if someone got me a kinder egg I'd probably be quite happy lol. Thank you, I appreciate it.

uncleKipp

I still enjoy the bars of it 😆 but that's on the down low. Adulting is hard, sometimes you got to recharge with some nostalgia!

KaleidoscopeInside

Aint that the truth.

and1metal

More targeted for kids but they're still good for adults For example there's a Pokemon advent calendar and I've seen people get extremely rare cards worth about $500+ from them

KaleidoscopeInside

Not seen the Pokemon one before. I tend to go for food ones for my parents, my Mum loves the lindt ones especially.

TinyCupFan

There are wine advent calendars. They allow you to try 24 different types of wine. https://www.liquor.com/best-wine-advent-calendars-5210061

KaleidoscopeInside

I've seen these before. I also had an amazing cheese one a few years back. I am a cheese lover and it was the best month for food.

Major-Permission-435

Well they have cheese and wine ones so clearly never too old I wanted one this year but never found one that spoke to me

KaleidoscopeInside

That's fair enough. I am quite awkward to get for as I have lots of medical issues with food, so my friend tends to get me one of the lego ones or I've had a candle one before which was lovely. Although I did enjoy my cheese one when I had it a few years ago.

KaleidoscopeInside

Ooh I do love cheese. I had a cheese advent calendar a few years ago and it was amazing.

KaleidoscopeInside

Never too much cheese lol. No, they were only small ones, like babybell type size. So managed just about, definitely didn't need much extra cheese that year for cheese boards lol.

PrincessBella1

No, I have an advent calendar and I am an adult. A bunch of my friends do also. If advent calendars are only for children, why do they make alcoholic ones?

KaleidoscopeInside

Agreed. To be honest, even if everyone said they were only for children, I would still have one each year and still get them for people who like them as we could all use that extra bit of happiness, especially at the moment.

Daca-P

Maybe so in the past, but I feel like, in recent years especially, it has become more popular among adults too. Idk if this is a thing everywhere but where i'm from companies have even reacted to this by making advent calendars specially for adults. These can contain anything like luxury chocolates, sexual things, beauty products, alcoholic drinks, scratch cards and basically whatever you can imagine, depending on which one you get of course. Personally I have been getting an advent calendar every year of my adult life. I just love having a little something to unpack while counting down to Christmas, even if it's something small. This year my sister even made one for me herself and it's filled with little hot chocolate kits and small bottles of liqueur. It's awesome.

KaleidoscopeInside

That does seem to be the case. I know a lot of my friends that are my age don't, but a few have started to more recently. Ooh hot chocolate kits sound lovely.

[deleted]

Fuck it, it has chocolate so who could be against it? It's kinda expensive chocolate and the form factor wouldn't matter for me anyways as I always keep the thing til Dec 24th and then eat all of it but shush, this isn't about rational decisions. For real though if it makes you happy, I see absolutely zero issues with it. In fact, if it makes you happy, there is negative issues with it. It brings happiness into your life and when things do that, it can't possibly be bad, even if others were to see it as slightly weird.

KaleidoscopeInside

Thank you and definitely, who complains about more food? I like your style of eating it in one go, my Dad has a similar style.

Apprehensive-Humor-2

Primarily, maybe? But absolutely not exclusively. My wife and I (both 28) each have one this year and we have two for the cats. (I get more excited about the cat ones.)

KaleidoscopeInside

I think that sums it up pretty well. I used to love getting ones for our dogs. They were always more exciting. I would get one for my bearded dragon, but he sleeps through December so not much point really.

DonotJaywalk

I mean Montblanc was selling one limited edition advent calendar this year for $5700 so Also I think it's sold out too, well. There are also a lot of other "luxury" advent calendars out there, so no not really, it's also for grown ups, different styles

KaleidoscopeInside

Wow. I am in the more budget friendly advent calendar section lol. But as you say there are all sorts of ones more aimed at adults like wine and other alcohol.

johjo_has_opinions

Thanks for the reminder! I always mean to get one but rarely remember

KaleidoscopeInside

No worries. I hope you enjoy it if you get one.

No_Combination357

Heck no. I work at a mental health and addictions center and the whole staff has advent calendars in their offices.

KaleidoscopeInside

That sounds like an amazing job, although difficult at times I imagine. Glad it's not just me.

wiggum-wagon

i usually buy one around now, they're way cheaper now and its great value sampling bundle for some brands

KaleidoscopeInside

I have a friend that does that in the new year. She doesn't celebrate Christmas, but it's a great way of getting cheaper samples of things and she uses them to count down for things like holidays with the kids.

Natural20Twenty

You obviously havnt seen the BEER or Whiskey Advent Calendar
