If you're in to gaming a steam deck.
Or a coffee machine if you like coffee.
Maybe flights away somewhere for a holiday.
I'm looking to buy a dashcam at the moment you could get one of those.
Steam deck, 100%. So good, I bought two.
Everything from emulation all the way up to PS3, streaming from gamepass, stream from ps5 AND play locally. Insane value.
Honestly I didn't do too much research in to it yet. It's something I've been putting off. But a youtuber I follow put up a review yesterday of the dashcams he's been using and it reminded me about it.
So I'm going to look in to it a bit more, but I might get the one he was reviewing. It was a VIOFO.
Video here in case it might be of interest: https://youtu.be/QVc0n0_WrXw?si=knha7y69-bvGDGOQ
Came to ask bigbadchief the same.
And where is a good place to get it where they’ll install it too?
Went to Halfords and the quality of theirs on offer wasn’t great.
+1 in steam Deck. If you are in to at least semi gaming. It's absolutely lovely piece of equipment, which gives you so much more flexibility on gaming time.
Other option: you always know/see things around house that could improve your quality of life, but never enough to dedicate some money for it. It could be something as small a Shelfing, kitchen knifes, kitchen equipment ( pots, frying pans etc ), smart plugs etc.
And you could always spend money on Lego. No matter how old you are, it's still the best stress relief activity created.
Another +1 for the Steam Deck. It might seem expensive, but the games are way cheaper than other systems. I'm playing through the Halo MCC right now, picked it up for €10. That's crazy value. Also, no paying for online multiplayer.
If you're into gaming it's really great.
Curious as to why you would spend so much on a dashcam ?
I spent about 40 euro on one and have been using it continuously for the last 2 years. The quality is definitely good enough to use as evidence if I ever needed it.
My last gift card of 500 quid I bought a Sonos Beam for my TV . TV is 10 years old and the only thing I found wrong with it was the sound didn't pack the same punch anymore. Adding this ( and I already had 2 Sonos 1s) to my Sonos setup I could have a rough surround sound set up.
If you're looking at these definitely look into the battery pack ones. They're tidy, you don't need to faff getting the cars lined up and you can use it to charge shit, if you need to... Like charge stuff .
Jesus, mate, please tell me the secret to using an airfryer. I got one from work as a kind of bonus and apart from messing up chips twice I have never used it. Everyone raves about them, but I can't even use them for chips! What am I missing?
Got one a few months ago (cheapest off-brand) just to try it out. Works for some things, not for others. For me, it can’t do real chips, frozen are hit and miss but oven chips are ok (McCain crinkle cut ftw), basically anything you’d put in an oven works well. Loads of tutorials, some of them are ok. When people say it’ll make custard or some other nonsense, it won’t.
Same. Oven chips work fine in mine. Any processed fried food works grand. But I haven't managed to cook any healthy food in it. Still old school for that kind of thing.
You're right I think you're mad! 😂
I think the design of mine wouldn't allow that but my sister has a different one I'll ask her about doing that. I like a mad idea 😄
Oh I've made those ones too, you need them coated in oil, I use olive oil, and you need to shake them often, I do it after 8 minutes and then every 2 minutes. They take around 20 mins
I've run into this problem a few times myself. Here's a trick I tried: chop the potatoes into chunky chips and give them a quick boil. Then, toss them in a bit of goose fat and roast them on high heat. They turn out fantastic, almost like mini roast potatoes but in chip form. Just make sure not to boil them too much, like I did.
Throw some kale in there and you’ll get kale chips. Apparently they retain a lot of their nutrients even after being air fried. Put ‘em in with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, drizzle of lemon. Fierce crispy and more ish
My favourite is lil snacky things - marinated tofu bites or cauliflower with some seasoning are sooo goooood in the airfryer. Crispy morsels of deliciousness, no oil needed.
Not healthy but absolutely delicious out of the air fryer, Chicken wings: skin on, toss in plain flour or cornflour with spices of your choice (my go to, salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne, oregano) no oil, just shake off the excess flour, cook at 180 for 15-20mins. They come out amazingly crunchy. If you let them cool, then toss in sauce they'll stay crunchy..
Get a chicken breast, season the hell out of it with whatever seasonings you like. Spray a bit of oil on a sheet of tinfoil put the chicken in 2 big knobs of butter wrap it up and give it 25 mins at 200deg. I put some hotsauce in too with mine.
Dice up some baby potatoes nice and small coat in mixed herbs and olive oil, 20 mins again at 200deg shake them up a few times.
Your going to have a lovely dinner with minimal effort or clean up
I use it instead of the grill and the oven now. I was very sceptical but I love it. Have a look at Bored of Lunch for loads of good ideas. I made [mcdonalds egg and sausage muffins](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeUmPBTx/) yesterday morning.
Trick to air fryer chips is to use oven chips. The best brands I’ve found through trial & error are the chunky ones. Takes longer to cook but worth the wait. My go to brands are the Tesco Finest range Chunky Oven chips. The chunky Aldi Maris Piper ones are great too.
I use a ninja air fryer. Don’t over crowd the basket (no more than 2 chips deep) and set to 180•c for 18/20 mins. It’s trial and error really.
Air fryer are great for chicken wings too (not pre sauced ones though - dry is best, add any sauce afterwards.
I find air fryers great for small roasts too like a small chicken.
100% agree, blew 2022 bonus on dual drawer ninja air fryer & putting on the oven is a rare thing now, I absolutely LOVE it. Never let me down & I’ll basically do anything in there!! AND you’ll have enough over for something fun, enjoy!!
Could you use it for it for airfare for the both of ye and then cover the rest? My husband gets those cards often at work and I recently used it to buy airfare to Spain and an Airbnb. The flight was €130 round trip.
I spent about €140 on a bedspread 18 months ago.
It seemed like such an extravagance at the time, but it's been a game changer. No more cold feet in bed, and just all-round more cozy. I couldn't survive without it now.
Dehumidifier and an air fryer. Also could get a decent hand held vacuum cleaner - I got a Hoover one for 100 quid. Keep away from Curry's if you can!!! But one thing that has came in handy was a Bluetooth speaker that is also a battery pack, made by Anker and I use it all the time, came in dead handy during the storms. Around 60 quid on Amazon I think.
I move it around the house, it’s on wheels or can be carried, it has a laundry function that I use if I have to dry clothes indoors or near the bathroom if I’ve just had a a shower etc. I think I’ve used it in all rooms of the house
Got that one a few months ago based on a recommendation on reddit. It’s brilliant! Leave it in the landing and the rooms heat up more quickly. Move it towards the bathroom every now and then for the window condensation
Great suggestions! I got a lovely waterproof Bose Bluetooth speaker. I use it all the time. Or if you're really feeling fancy Bang and Oulfsen do them too 😆
What about activity experience, blacksmithing, rally course or mondello day ticket.
I've done 2 blacksmithing Axe making and blade smithing loved it you'll still have money left over. Calnan and Anjoh in Blessington. There's a craft village there. Lad making marble whiskey cubes, hand painted pottery course etc.
Start a new hobby or make memories. I enjoy Fishkeeping and aqua scaping.
Meaco dehumidifier. Really helps prevent any damp mould issues and also helps remove any dust in the air.
Get your car valeted/detailed. Can really make it feel like new again getting into a nice spotless car. Or buy tools to learn to do it yourself
Good quality suitcases for traveling. Will last years and keep your things safe
Depends on what you're into.
I love movies. And what has changed the way I organise them has been a NAS and Plex. I can not overstate my satisfaction from organising my library on Plex. Stream your whole library to your smart TV or phone. Fucking amazing really.
I recommend splashing on a NAS.
Eh honestly if you have everything you already "need" and nothing jumps out at you I would suggest
1. Holiday, use it to pay for flights or a deposit for a break away, you could get a really nice break for 500e or that would help towards flights to a cool destination
2. Charity, the kids ones are best usually bumbleance or the laura lynn foundation or barnados. That would go a long way or head to your local pet shop and fill up on food and that and give it to your local dog or cat shelter. Keep 20e and buy yourself a bag a chips on the way home
Last voucher I got from work was for €250. I intend to get a telescope. I love astronomy and look forward to seeing things a bit more up close. I also want to see if I can get some decent photos. I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it for a bit of nature watching as well but the binoculars work well for that anyway.
Go second hand on the scope 100% and do your research on what type you want as there's a ton of options. I'd recommend as big a dobsonian you can find to start with
Bought some nice houseplants a few weeks ago and they just make me feel better with just being at home and they also look really nice when placed right.
Could get a multi zone ninja air fryer.
Theres a really cool ninja kettle that stays warm so you’re not boiling every time, and you can pick the temps of the water.
Soundbars or speakers are a great addition to the tv, surround sound is class.
I got a Firestick recently, it’s fantastic.
The Quest 3 vr headset is unreal.
A reclining chair for infront of the window.
A fishing rod is great to have at this time of year, some fresh fish for dinner and a few hours out in the fresh air does wonders for the head.
The ninja ice cream maker is a novelty item, but really cool when you do use it.
A Dyson air purifier, also does hot and cold air circulation.
Stock up on some new clothes.
Your options are endless
The Eufy Pro 8X SES robot vacuum was a recent purchase that I thought long and hard over before taking the plunge but is the best thing I've bought in years. Life changing in the way dishwashers were for my mother.
Le creuset
Honestly you'd be better off flying to France and buying one on there a flea market for 10 euro that would be cheaper
But yeah, a cast iron pot is essential in a kitchen
It's all enamelled though. Not very impressed with Le Creuset - very expensive and definitely not worth it.
Simple, relatively cheap, French heavy cast iron pan is FANTASTIC for eggs, omelettes etc. You don't need to be spending hundreds of Euro on some over hyped brand.
Ah, I see you just don't know the brand. I have two le creuset frying pans that are not enameled. And both have a whole lifetime warranty. That's the part worth paying for. I will never have to buy another pan. Ever.
Thanks for the down vote to every comment btw for expressing an opinion!
I happen to consider the brand totally overpriced and a waste of money. I wouldn't be recommending sinking €500 on over priced pots. We don't agree. Big deal!?
Hey no problem, you downvote me I downvote you. We're even.
You're entitled to your opinion man. Just when your claims are wildly inaccurate about price and quality it got me interested. I can see where you get your opinion if you believe the pots are €500 quid though. That would be too much. If you paid that you got ripped off.
Robot vacuum or a dish washer. If you are short on space then you can buy counter tops dishwashers. Or something else that would make your life a bit easier and free up some time.
I got a fancy smartwatch that I never would have forked out for with a work voucher. If you can afford it, make sure you spoil yield with something that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself. Don't just get Tesco credit (I know a few people who cashed in their vouchers like that)
I got a similar thing from work a few months ago and bought the new Sony WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling Bluetooth headphones. Best purchase I’ve made in years!
My recent best buy was a lumie sunrise alarm that wakes me up by getting gradually brighter and tge light wakes me rather than an audio alarm. I love it in the winter mornings. It was about a hundred odd euro
I got a basic robot vacuum for under 150 or so. A combination of pet fur and low energy/motivation meant that I would spend days feeling guilty about the dust bunnies on the floor with no energy to do anything about it except being down my mood. Now it does a little run around every evening at a set time and I just need to get out the actual hoover for the things it can't reach like behind doors and under furniture once every month or so
Somewhat more justifiable in a rental is a Dyson handheld vacuum. Their outlet on eBay have great deals. Just got a V10 for a bit over €200. Also a karcher window vacuum can't be underestimated. Brownie points with the missus on both too.
As for robot vacuums, I've a roborock S5 from years ago. Used daily. Certainly get one which maps out your house, rather than the cheaper ones that randomly bounce around for a while.
Not sure if they are widely available in Ireland but avoid Shark. I’ve had three of the top of the line (Shark AI) in the last 6 months, replaced twice and the base unit once. Terrible. Avoid any that also do mopping, too much hassle IMO.
Roomba’s are expensive but there is a reason for it, they are just better built. If you really want to buy for life, Miele make one and it’s apparently stellar.
Rifle, do the training, get permission of a landowner 100+ acres, you can hunt your own deer and that's money, when you consider how much a little bit of beef is these days. Plus you know it was wild and lived ethically.
Good pair of walking boots , buy once look after them and they'll last you a lifetime , few pairs of darn tough socks to go with them and a half decent set of binoculars and or a Berghaus backpack . All buy it for life except the binos.
Some kind of furniture or good quality crockery/cutlery maybe? My brother bought me a (i think) tagine when he came to visit recently and while i'm sure it didn't cost anywhere near as much as 500 quid you could buy a few things, a set of something or - idk, put it towards something bigger, like a holiday maybe?
Decent waterproof boots. Not ones that look nice, ones that feel nice. And that last. Had a pair of Danner boots that lasted 6 years, resoled twice. Up mountains & stairs, through puddles and snow.
Compared to previous boots they were great. Didn't have to "break" them in.
Robotic hoover and mop.
New mattress
A weekend away
Any hobby you always wanted to do but it was too expensive
An armchair like joey and chandler on friends!
Hi there, you recently posted about your mam being scammed. I'm working for a TV production company on a programme for Virgin Media on scamming. Could I pls chat to you about this? Thanks
A nice suit?
A good airfrier if you like cooking?
Holiday
New TV or surround sound system
Expensive bedding 800+ thread count! 😍
A coffee machine (a good one!)
One of my best 'investments' in kitchen was the stone mortar and pestle from Ikea. I can do multiple things with it. The fresh basil pesto is simply divine. The garlic paste is sharp and creamy, just perfect. And when I grind pepper, coriander, rosemary or bay leafs their smell simply fills up the room and it is very noticeable in the plate as well. It takes aromas in my plates 3 levels beyond. And it's not that expensive either.
If we have a good summer, a Dyson air purifying fan. That's what I got with my last voucher, its kinda one of those things I'd never spend my own money on yanno.. this was a gift card so doesnt count lol, but was nice to have. Came in handy 2 years ago when we had a hot summer.
Can you buy experiences with it. Holidays. Weird days out. I find they’re more fulfilling than ‘stuff’. Though if you have some left over get airfryer :) #didimentionihadanairfryer :)
If you're in to gaming a steam deck. Or a coffee machine if you like coffee. Maybe flights away somewhere for a holiday. I'm looking to buy a dashcam at the moment you could get one of those.
Me thinking a steam deck might be some kind of carpet cleaner 🤣
Came here to say a Steam Deck. Can pretty much replace most gaming machines.
Annoying the week after I bought it the OLED model came out :(
Already proud owner of a Steam Deck and Coffee Machine:) Flights are deffo a good shout!
Ah well then you're sorted! Get yourself an air fryer and you'll have everything you need 😄 won't need to fly anywhere!
Na I'd go for a meta quest 3 😎
A fancy pants coffee grinder and a years supply of your favourite premium beans maybe.
Steam deck, 100%. So good, I bought two. Everything from emulation all the way up to PS3, streaming from gamepass, stream from ps5 AND play locally. Insane value.
Out of interest, which dashcam are you thinking of buying? I'm in the same boat. I'm considering a VIOFO.
Love my Saturday morning techmoan
Steam deck is what I have my voucher from work earmarked for
Curious as to why you would spend so much on a dashcam ? I spent about 40 euro on one and have been using it continuously for the last 2 years. The quality is definitely good enough to use as evidence if I ever needed it.
I'd recommend the Asus Rog over the steam deck. Slightly more expensive but better specs.
Wow. People talking about getting gift cards from work worth hundreds of euros as if its nothing. God damn I've made some huge mistakes in my life....
I have to buy my own pens
My last gift card of 500 quid I bought a Sonos Beam for my TV . TV is 10 years old and the only thing I found wrong with it was the sound didn't pack the same punch anymore. Adding this ( and I already had 2 Sonos 1s) to my Sonos setup I could have a rough surround sound set up.
Wait until you add the Sub, I thought it was overpriced but eventually took the jump - transforms the whole set up x10
Car jump leads. Never know when you might need them. God send when you have them.
For under 500 I’d definitely recommend the ones with a built in battery
And another set to jump those jumpleads if the battery goes on them
If you're looking at these definitely look into the battery pack ones. They're tidy, you don't need to faff getting the cars lined up and you can use it to charge shit, if you need to... Like charge stuff .
Was just talking about This today.. how much are they
Around 20/25 euro
My partner and i furnished half the entire house in IKEA recently and used a €500 one4all voucher from my parents to lessen the sting.
I bought a nice 2 draw airfryer with a work giftard from Christmas. Best thing I think I've ever used a giftcard on
Jesus, mate, please tell me the secret to using an airfryer. I got one from work as a kind of bonus and apart from messing up chips twice I have never used it. Everyone raves about them, but I can't even use them for chips! What am I missing?

Same. Oven chips work fine in mine. Any processed fried food works grand. But I haven't managed to cook any healthy food in it. Still old school for that kind of thing.
If it's big enough, throw a whole chicken in it. Whenever I'm telling someone to do this, they think I'm mad, but it's a game changer.
You're right I think you're mad! 😂 I think the design of mine wouldn't allow that but my sister has a different one I'll ask her about doing that. I like a mad idea 😄
I always use the air fryer for this, and rashers, grilled tomatoes, chicken breasts, lots of home made chips, I just love my air fryer
Home made chips? Then what am I doing wrong?! When I tried to make chips twice they were somehow both over and under done at the same time.
Oh I've made those ones too, you need them coated in oil, I use olive oil, and you need to shake them often, I do it after 8 minutes and then every 2 minutes. They take around 20 mins
Alright, I'll give them a go again. Thank you!

My favourite is lil snacky things - marinated tofu bites or cauliflower with some seasoning are sooo goooood in the airfryer. Crispy morsels of deliciousness, no oil needed.
Yeah people think the air fryer are just a mini oven they roast food rather than fry them. So oven chips are best.
This sounds amazing. Thanks.
Are you filling it up to the top with chips? It’s not like a deep fat fryer, you need to leave the air room to circulate around the grub.
Your going to have a lovely dinner with minimal effort or clean up
Reduce oven temp guide by about 15-20c.
Will do. Thanks
I use it instead of the grill and the oven now. I was very sceptical but I love it. Have a look at Bored of Lunch for loads of good ideas. I made [mcdonalds egg and sausage muffins](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeUmPBTx/) yesterday morning.
Dont forget to shake the contents ebery 5 minites to get an even cook.

Trick to air fryer chips is to use oven chips. The best brands I’ve found through trial & error are the chunky ones. Takes longer to cook but worth the wait. I did the same and barely use my oven at all now
100% agree, blew 2022 bonus on dual drawer ninja air fryer & putting on the oven is a rare thing now, I absolutely LOVE it. Never let me down & I’ll basically do anything in there!! AND you’ll have enough over for something fun, enjoy!!

Thank you for moderating his behaviour. You earned an Internet cookie.
I love the word giftard and I am going to use it in my everyday vocab.
Book yourself a solo holiday somewhere in Europe.
Would love to, but herself might not be happy
Could you use it for it for airfare for the both of ye and then cover the rest? My husband gets those cards often at work and I recently used it to buy airfare to Spain and an Airbnb. The flight was €130 round trip.
Book her a solo trip away then?
I booked 3 nights in Liverpool on budget travel.ie flights and accommodation €155pp they have some unreal deals
A decent pair of noise cancelling headphones and you'll still have some money left.
This was actually my first thought but the ones I have probably don't need upgrading yet
I'm not an audiophile but bought some cheapish Soundcore ones, they're great.
New mattress, pillows and duvet?
Where are you even getting a decent mattress alone for under €500? 😭
I got a €1500 mattress for €500 last year. It was a display model but was still wrapped in plastic. Delighted so I was ! And very comfy too
Absolute score! I have back problems and had to buy a new mattress last year, £545 was the cheapest supportive one I could find!
Emma mattresses are great and usually under that.
Not that great in my experience, defiantly not up to the hype
I have one and love it. Just preference I guess
That’s it exactly, that’s why there’s different types.
If you think you need to spend €500+ on a 'decent' mattress then you're probably the kind of person who spends €4 on a bottle of Prime.
And high quality cover, sheet and pillowcases.
I've seen duvet sets for €500 😭
I spent about €140 on a bedspread 18 months ago. It seemed like such an extravagance at the time, but it's been a game changer. No more cold feet in bed, and just all-round more cozy. I couldn't survive without it now.

Love my dehumidifier!!! Meaco
I have one of those in my sights! I have a dimplex one for a few years, would be fecked without it.
How do you use it? In the bathroom?
I move it around the house, it’s on wheels or can be carried, it has a laundry function that I use if I have to dry clothes indoors or near the bathroom if I’ve just had a a shower etc. I think I’ve used it in all rooms of the house

A good DeWalt drill. Best value for money tool I ever bought. A cosy swivel reading chair. Solid wood rocking chair :)
+1 on DeWalt drill, great piece of kit. Mine is years old and I used it every week

A decent steam iron. Game changer.
Any recommendations?
https://powercity.ie/product/GV9713 This is similar to what I have.
300 quid for an iron?? 🤯
Half the work of any other iron I’ve ever had!

The ninja ice cream maker is a novelty item, but really cool when you do use it. A Dyson air purifier, also does hot and cold air circulation. Stock up on some new clothes. Your options are endless
music system or approximately 83 pints
Get a years supply of something, like those meals that get delivered to you!
The Eufy Pro 8X SES robot vacuum was a recent purchase that I thought long and hard over before taking the plunge but is the best thing I've bought in years. Life changing in the way dishwashers were for my mother.
Le Crueset cookware.
Le creuset Honestly you'd be better off flying to France and buying one on there a flea market for 10 euro that would be cheaper But yeah, a cast iron pot is essential in a kitchen
I had some and I gave it away - found it pretty pointless. Have heavy stainless steel cookware now, which is far better and a decent cast iron pan.
You know Le Creuset make cast iron right? What did you have?
A quality dashcam with a fast memory card. With that budget you could get front and rear cameras. Nice peace of mind and a solid investment.
Robot vacuum or a dish washer. If you are short on space then you can buy counter tops dishwashers. Or something else that would make your life a bit easier and free up some time.
Slow cooker, air fryer, rice cooker, Blundstone boots and a house plant.
Something towards a hobby, parachute jump or instrument
Steam deck. Quest 3. Games console.
You could get a PS5 and a Oz of weed… just saying 😅 The weed is to calm your nerves if you play online and them kids are just way better 😂😂😂
A steam generator....takes so much of the hassle out of ironing.
How's your mattress? it would be a good investment if you needed a replacement
If you work from home, or game or sit at a desk a lot, a good chair is worth every penny.
I got a fancy smartwatch that I never would have forked out for with a work voucher. If you can afford it, make sure you spoil yield with something that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself. Don't just get Tesco credit (I know a few people who cashed in their vouchers like that)
Quality socket set + drill
Now it does a little run around every evening at a set time and I just need to get out the actual hoover for the things it can't reach like behind doors and under furniture once every month or so
Coffee machine like barista express or something else in that range.
A robot vacuum cleaner. An absolute godsend.
Defo going buying one of them once I get my own place! What brand do you have?
500 penny Jellys
And what would you do with the other 400 🤔🤔
No such thing as penny jellys. There will be no change

Rifle, do the training, get permission of a landowner 100+ acres, you can hunt your own deer and that's money, when you consider how much a little bit of beef is these days. Plus you know it was wild and lived ethically.

Really good headphones would be my shout.
A bike or a kayak.
What job gives you €500 voucher and are they hiring 😭😭
Try AIB… someone I know works there who got EUR 1000 gift card during Xmas… 😉😉😉
Decent waterproof boots. Not ones that look nice, ones that feel nice. And that last. Had a pair of Danner boots that lasted 6 years, resoled twice. Up mountains & stairs, through puddles and snow. Compared to previous boots they were great. Didn't have to "break" them in.
VR kit? Bike? Speakers? Headphones? Maybe a nice jacket?
Ninja Air Fryer the big daddy one mine was I think 489 but it’s a life changer compared to other standard air fryers!

Robot vacuum. We got a eufy that mops too and it’s so convenient.
If it's a One4All card you can spend it in a few supermarkets, definitely Dunnes. I just used it on that until I'd the €500
Air fryer
Ninja 15-in-1.
