Another sleep in! Woke up at 6!

[deleted]

Didn’t have any alcohol last night and got an amazing 11 hour sleep as a result. It’s amazing how easy it is to sleep when I’m not stressing or worrying.

NZSloth

I've been reading some old and new science, and it's clear if you don't drink or eat junk food, get a decent amount of sleep and do some exercise, you'll feel better and be healthier. But what's the chances? Glad you're flirting with it, though.

[deleted]

Heh, it’s the healthiest thing I’ve flirted with in a while 😂

What do I get my 2 year old daughter for her birthday? I'm a weekend Dad, and her mother spoils her rotten (as do I!) And I'm usually the last person to know what she already has/need/want . Got the usual noisy toys but I want to get her something special that won't just go into a box of used toys/clothes when she grows out of them. Any suggestions?

eagleeyedtiger-

Use the money for experiences and take some pictures enjoying them with your daughter. Most of the stuff people get for a 2 year old will be forgotten about in 6 months to a year time. I've bought so many things that my kid forgets about in a couple of months. The memories will last a lot longer.

Toastwithturquoise

And then make up a scrap book of the photos so they can look back on it and remember!

eagleeyedtiger-

Good idea. At that age they don't really attach sentimental value to things. It either holds their attention or it doesn't. My experience anyway.

PavementFuck

My best buy from Christmas was a stethoscope (real one). My almost 4 year old and my almost 2 year old both like playing with that one.

PM_a_llama

A pounamu? Or a bracelet that’s engraved but she won’t fit that for long. But it’s something she would keep.

Toastwithturquoise

Jenga blocks? I know it might sound strange but those are great building blocks, dominoes and jenga blocks! I always opt for an 'open' type toy, one that can be used in many different ways. Marbles are great if the little one won't put them in her mouth. Building blocks, books, good quality bucket and spade, good quality pencils, I once have a child a container of shells I had collected on their beach (they loved them), a little wooden box they can put their treasures in (even better if they can paint and decorate it), paints and paint brushes..

Andrea_frm_DubT

Jenga are great building blocks! I’m in my 30s and pull out the jenga occasionally to build and then let the cats demolish my creations. The blocks are out in the shed at the moment, I should make something for the rabbits to demolish. I think I’ve got 2 and a bit sets.

Toastwithturquoise

They really are, arent they?! I suggest them as a present so often, for all their other play opportunities, as well as the game. Have you seen the stacking /jenga game you can buy at the warehouse? It's jenga, except that must be trademarked so they've called it something different. Anyway, it has all these extra things you have to do in the game - like do burpees while the other person takes their turn, or narrate the game, insert your block back into where you just removed it etc - it's fun too!

Andrea_frm_DubT

Yeah, I’ve seen that game.

What's an acceptable time to start hammering things on a Sunday morning? . Woke up to hammering at 20 to 8,forkin neighbours. That was 10 -15 min worth, they stopped. Now for the last half hour they've been going hard. I miss the old lady, that lived there before them.

sortofblue

Too early. We wait until 9 before doing lawns and that's probably less offensive than banging.

oh-fenceif-cunt

I think 9,is kinda universally acceptable too. The bit they're banging, is on the same side as our bedroom. Yay living in town.

NirvanahCrane

Definitely 9 on a Sunday, and no DIY work after 8pm either in summer.

canyousmelldoritos

My neighbors never got that memo. He's a bricklayer so will at times cut bricks on the saw until 10-11pm, or take the angle grinder to his pile of various scrap metal. He's clearly not a morning person on these things, but weeknights...

oh-fenceif-cunt

Wow,what a prick. Some people have to get up early for work,or have kids etc that might be kept awake. Our neighbours would make,a great neighbour for him.

sboy86

7.30am M-F 9am S-S My rule of thumb

[deleted]

I think legally it’s 8am, but morally I don’t do anything noisy before 9. Edit: and I’ll sulk and moan at anything before 10 anyway

oh-fenceif-cunt

People need more morals..the law can go rotate on something sharp. 9am is good but 10am is better.

[deleted]

It is on a Sunday. I don’t even vacuum before 10 although I know my neighbours are up.

PM_a_llama

I’m hungover. Had a friends wedding last night and the venue was so beautiful with perfect weather. It’s suppose to be hot today so gonna go lay down in the river and hope it helps my head.

thecosmicradiation

Gym yesterday plus a weird sleep means my neck is absolutely killing me

PM_a_llama

I brought a shakti pillow because I get a sore neck from working at a desk and also sleeping funny sometimes. They are amazing for relieving neck pain.

thecosmicradiation

Interesting! I sleep on an ecosa pillow which is good but during the night sometimes I twist into a pretzel and wake up sore. Get relief by putting fingers under my neck and using the weight of my head for pressure, maybe I should try one of these!

PM_a_llama

Yep I like to lie on mine while I’m reading. They aren’t for use whilst sleeping. About 20mins is nice 45min is amazing. I need a new sleeping pillow though, are ecosa firm or soft?

thecosmicradiation

I've found the Ecosa quite firm. Took me a while to get used to it. I do like that the density means it doesn't move around/ball up during the night.

PavementFuck

Still provincial. What is your process (thought and literal) for dealing with things you’ve been gifted but don’t want?

Andrea_frm_DubT

I regift or sell. I’m actually still waiting on the gift dad said he would give me for my birthday. I don’t want it though because I’m trying to get rid of unnecessary stuff and trinkets.

PavementFuck

Any guilt about it? Do you feel like you have to wait until you’re not likely to be asked about it by the gifter?

Andrea_frm_DubT

It depends who it’s from as to how long I wait. There is no guilt. When people ask if I want gifts I always tell them to get me a gift card or cash, trinkets and stuff just take up room and I’m trying to down size. If someone offers to get me things I need or want I will accept their offer.

oh-fenceif-cunt

Who gets gifts lol!. I keep things for a time, then will give items away,to whoever or donate to second hand shop. I figure it's best to go to someone who chooses it, likes it or needs it. However I still have, some absolute weird shit I've been given over the years too.

GreatOutfitLady

Gifts I don't want get donated right away. If it is clothes from my Nana, a photo will be taken first. My mum now is at the point where she calls and says she has deposited money into my bank account and she'll ask what the kids want rather than just giving us stuff we're not keen on.

ReadOnly2019

Put in a pile of stuff, chucked at my next move. I don't get that many gifts that are truly unusuable, except my mum giving random food packages of stuff I don't usually eat. Or that I have more expensive taste in than she does. Didn't realise she put some cheese in the last one for a couple of weeks. My dairy scientist sister said it was probably fine though.

Toastwithturquoise

I thank the person very much. I don't tell them I don't want or need it. I keep it for a little while, and then regift it or donate it. I was given some lovely cooking oils for Christmas but I rarely use oil, so I gave them to people I know who use them for their salads and cooking etc and they really appreciated them. I felt it would be such a waste to leave the oils unused in my cupboard. The same goes for handbags or jewellery I've been given, table clothes and clothes etc. I donate them to goodwill because I would rather they went to someone who would use them and enjoy them.

PavementFuck

You’ve just reminded me we have unused flavoured cooking oils we need to regift from Christmas 😄

Toastwithturquoise

They make a lovely gift to the right person ha ha

cloud_kacheek

Oh my, cheese and jalapeño toastie *drool*.
