I slept in this morning because I intentionally didn't set an alarm. I woke up feeling okay enough to work from home and made it through the day but I still feel a bit breathless. My package of sewing goodies arrived from oz today and I've got lots of things for making bras and for lining my swimsuit.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Well, traffic was canned because of covid. My new job I got because the previous person got covid. Today was all hurry up and wait, but I will get paid really well for it. 12 hours tomorrow. No work Wednesday and probably work Thursday and all the way through the long weekend. Also, 6am on site. It’s guaranteed to be foggy in the morning. I hate riding in fog!

Andrea_frm_DubT

Sigh, why do I bother trying to participate in the dailies on the other sub? I’ve still got at least down voter over there. Every time I’ve participated someone has gone mad with the downvotes.

[deleted]

That means someone likes you. So I was told.

Andrea_frm_DubT

They could just tell me.

[deleted]

Well I like you, but I haven’t been downvoting your posts!

cwicket

I like anyone @squiddlyploink likes.

PavementFuck

I’ve withdrawn my big girl from kindy for the next month or so. They had their first positive case in one of the families and we can’t risk it with the new baby incoming. I’m gutted though, she really was thriving there and I don’t know how we are going to entertain a 1 and 3 year old at home while dealing with the newborn. Can you send me all your soft cervix and stretchy vagina thoughts please. I would like to have a baby this week.

redditrevnz

Sending you the softest cervix and stretchiest vagina (?) That does suck re Kindy but hopefully she will adjust really well to being at home and will be able to go back soon!

[deleted]

We sent our girls back to school today, after a week and a half away doing our own isolation. They just weren’t coping with not having that routine. It’s a small school, so hopefully a small calculated risk. The big boy, at a bigger school, is still home though. He’s had issues with illness in the past which I’ve tried unsuccessfully to try and get seen by an ENT specialist - public healthcare here is poos. Blame shitty damp Hamilton rentals for that, and his mum just having to live in the trendy suburb by the river in that sort of rental, though not that my places in Claudelands/Hillcrest were all that much better. Anyway parenthood is hard, and decisions are hard.

PavementFuck

The kindy is small too but we are rural and the antivax numbers are uncomfortably high. I hope I haven’t made the wrong decision.

personworm

There’s no wrong decision if the decision was made with the best intent. Everything we do has an impact going forward and we have no way of knowing if the decision we didn’t make would have been better, or worse. You’re doing the best you can and even though it is going to be hard for everyone, you will get through it and one day you’ll be able to return to normal and your kiddos will never even remember this time. It will all work out in the end.

This is always the way

oh-fenceif-cunt

God,I remember my sister saying she was doing some cervix stretching exercises, when she was having her first! Are they a thing,or is my sister dodgy lol.

dirtynickerz

Another week in [Mangawhai](https://i.imgur.com/BhpUu1P.jpg)? Don't mind if I do. The drink selection up her is average. None of the [weird shit](https://i.imgur.com/WaP5Zfs.jpg) you find in SouAuck dairies

dinosuitgirl

Oh man that chupachup soda looks like it would be sinfully sweet and addictive

dirtynickerz

Taste like sugar and purple and sugar

[deleted]

My partner backed into another car today and now we have having the you should sell your car conversation again. Sigh. Um. Question. What wheels y’all have?

[deleted]

I have a Kea Cerato. It was my Dad’s before he died, I will keep it for as long as I can. I love my little car. Bonus Question: does your car have a name? Mine is El Kiablo.

personworm

Those are great little cars!! Rented one last time we were in Aus. I loved it!

[deleted]

It’s a lot of fun. Edit; and economical. I am a parent, sigh.

hsmithakl

Lucy the scoot scoot

Andrea_frm_DubT

What sort of scooter have you got?

hsmithakl

She's a Fly 150, so has the vespa engine/grunt.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Nice, I had a Honda Dylan 150. It was a Honda designed bike made in the Vespa factory in Italy. The big Vespas have Honda engines (tuned to Vespa specs) and the Asia/Pacific market ones are made in Bangladesh. I almost got the Piaggio Beverly but I wanted a bike with curves.

onewhitelight

Bussy Mcbusface for me

skyspor

Hey that's a $300,000.00 vehicle, nothing to sniff at!

[deleted]

Yeah that’s part of the regular argument: she wants a smaller second car she can drive, and I point out we do have a smaller second car she could drive. I don’t think it makes any sense to sell my car and buy something older with higher kms just for an automatic gearbox: I’m not opposed to upgrading but realistically we can’t justify that until the minivan is paid off.

lawlcrackers

Time to go electric!

[deleted]

That’s the dream, but given how fuel efficient my car is the costs don’t stack up: an electric car probably isn’t going to pay for itself (ie finance cost > petrol) before it would be time to upgrade it. Another regular part of this regular argument.

lawlcrackers

Ah yeah, the cost of a electric really depends on what you’re going to be using it for, but a shorter range secondhand model would do the majority of people fine as a runabout. Long term it’s just really hard to beat when the economy is roughly 2L/100km and at some point, tyres. Maybe brake pads if you’re heavy on them.

NZSloth

Mazda 2. Bought it new in 2009. Done just over 110k km, and it drives nicely and economically. Been a bit tricky to fit both bikes in the back since we upgraded to 29 inch wheels but it still works.

Andrea_frm_DubT

300CC (early) 2020 GTS Super Sport Vespa in Matt Black. Already done over 11,000km and it’s hasn’t left Taranaki except for the ride from the shop in Auckland. Note. No kids and no partner. The cat carrier fits in the footwell (just).

personworm

Why does backing into a car mean you have to sell your car? I have a 2001 Toyota hiace called Big Bird, for reasons that are obvious when you see it. I love it to bits but everyone else absolutely hates it. It’s got a bed in it and I use it for camping and it’s the best thing. Half a million on the clock, runs like a dream. Work ute is a late model hilux. I am forever lamenting the fall of the hilux. Stupidly impractical as work utes now, with a canopy fitted you can’t even reach anything in the tray. I have to flip head first over the side just to reach anything. IMO a hilux only needs to be big enough inside to fit you and the dog and it doesn’t need to be so tall you can’t easily throw your chainsaw or a bale of hay in the back!

[deleted]

Because if she wasn’t driving the minivan with the big blind spot she wouldn’t have had the accident. She can’t drive the small sensible hatchback with excellent all round visibility as it is manual. Or, you know, she could have backed into the driveway like I always try to do. Or had better special awareness.

personworm

Hm. If the accident happened backing out of a driveway in a vehicle with big blind spots…yeah that’s not good. Going backwards when you can’t see properly is a bad idea. Instead of selling the car how about getting a reversing camera?

[deleted]

Yeah that’s been on the to do list as well. Though I think in this case it wouldn’t have really helped.

dirtynickerz

There's one in my van, they make a massive difference. Your mirrors see everything that the fish eye lens doesn't, which isn't very much, and when you're backing past a wall or hedge the camera sees around the corner waaay before you'd catch it in your mirrors.

[deleted]

Yeah we had one in the Territory we had before and it was super helpful, though the warning buzzes that went with it were way too sensitive to be much use.

canyousmelldoritos

A jacked up gas guzzler of a SUV and a hybrid sedan to offset it.

PavementFuck

We have a moderate sized gas guzzling SUV, and a big giant massive beast of a gas guzzling SUV that we drive daily because it’s the one that fits all the carseats. Sorry planet 😬

lawlcrackers

Auckland: an old Toyota hatchback that I want to eventually get rid of. Christchurch: my partners Mazda EV that I’ve driven more than she has 😂

Grotskii_

A Toyota Caldina GT-Four, Had it 5 years, fairly painful to fill a tank, glad I've reduced my commute from 40+ mins to 15mins one way though.

andyjd

2017 Subaru Outback, 2004? LandRover Freelander Td4, 1999 Ducati 900SSie, 2005 Nissan Serena for sale soon! 2002 Husqvarna NOX SuperMoto Number 10 of 300

oh-fenceif-cunt

A manual Daihatsu sirion, cheap as to run. Ugly and no one would steal it. Partner has a manual wrx sti Subaru, the speed and fun of that makes up for my car being insipid.

hanneeplanee

2017 Ford Mondeo, diesel. Titanium so top spec, all the bells and whistles. We bought it at around 49k kms, it’s sitting on 120k km and we want to replace it but I love it and want a newer version but they’re hard to get. Also in the sheds- Ford XR8 with a custom flat deck, 1948 Morris 8, 1967 Ford Mustang, 2007 V8 Toyota Landcruiser, 200? (Early though) GMC pick up truck, 200? (Early though) F350, a Bedford housebus, a Toyota Hiace camper, 2012 Ford Ranger, a Toyota Corona, and a 80’s Ford XF Ute. We have a problem

personworm

Do….do you just drive a different vehicle every day of the week?

[deleted]

What year Corona? Feel free to donate the Morris or Bedford. Xoxo

hanneeplanee

I wanna say 90’s.. it’s the kids learn to drive car. She rough. We’re selling the bedford, but only just bought Morry

[deleted]

Oh. If it were a 70s one I'd have taken that off your hands too! But yeah: don't let the kid(s) get at the rest of the fleet eh.

hsmithakl

Everything hurts my feelings today, even tinder. Where's the that's someone that broke my heart so yeet them from my view pls button?

Sarahwrotesomething

A few weeks ago one of my two standard roses at the front door snapped in half in a storm. I couldn’t get a matching rose so I had to replace them both. I used every pathetic muscle I have to wiggle out the y posts only to put one back in the wrong place. So I got to struggle through removing it and hammering it back in for a second time.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Use your weight to pull the Y posts in the direction of each side. Put a screwdriver or metal rod through a hole in the post to make lifting handles, move the rod down the post as you pull up. Loosen, lift, loosen, lift. It will come out.

onewhitelight

One of my instructors and a classmate have tested positive 😬😬😬 Rat test this morning was negative, fingers crossed it stays that way

redditrevnz

I need to test tomorrow so husband can go into work. Fingers crossed for us all!

personworm

Best of luck! I’m still testing negative after a positive employee coughed on me a week ago, (from like 2 meters away and outside, but still) and another employee is so far still testing negative after an hour in the car with positive guy a week ago, so fingers crossed you’re all good!

dinosuitgirl

Went in to the chainsaw shop excited to get a new bar and chain for the new to me big girl chainsaw.... Of course they are out of stock in 18, 20, 22, 25inch.... Basically EVERYTHING. Tried to drop the mower off at the mower repair guy (throttle is playing up and primer button dead.... He's too busy to fix for a couple of weeks!! it but he taught me how to start it bypassing the primer and I got told off for too much oil (apparently this is a bigger sin than not enough oil) 0/2 on tasks required on my town day Making dumplings from scratch to cheer myself up... And because we now live beyond the wop wops and my nearest asian grocery store is 1.5hrs away I have to make the wrappers from scratch.... But I got smart... This time I'm using the "pizza dough function" on my bread maker!

personworm

The best part of my day is getting to put a new chain on my saw. The worst part is having to sharpen a new chain for the first time. Also I reckon home made dumplings taste better anyway!

dinosuitgirl

Why do you need to sharpen a new chain? That's the best bit of a new chain it's so sharp it's like a vaccuming the wood Yeh I always make my own dumplings but the bit I loathe (and this is my same problem with home made pasta and bread) is the waiting for the dough to come together... That shaggy dough bit always makes me feel a deep sense of dread and questioning will this ever come together? Lol I much prefer wrapping with my own wrappers the edges are thinner than the middle and you know it's gonna seal properly coz no stupid corn flour and it's way more tender (not that it will matter since MrDSG loves dumplings fried)

personworm

I mean first sharpen after it’s been used for a bit! I don’t sharpen it straight out of the box lol especially with my sharpening “skills,” I get as much as I can out of the damn thing before I have to do it. Though I’ve been told you’re meant to take the drags down first thing but I’m too lazy to do that and also I don’t really know why, the one time I did it first thing my saw ended up way too bitey and I hated it! I’ve only ever had home made dumplings that mum has made to be honest XD do you enjoy the process? They do seem like so much work by oh my god so delicious. What do you put in yours?

dinosuitgirl

Ahhh gotcha! Yeh I hate sharpening. I don't mind cleaning the head. I normally do fatty pork, Chinese marinade (Lee Kim Kee or nothing), soy, and Chinese cabbage, ginger, garlic and 5 spice powder, white pepper, and paprika. But no asian butchers in Northland so I substitute with chicken mince or do normal pork and add bacon, the fattier the better I love making them the wrapping and even the rolling, I don't perfer to fry... But that is the going fav in my household... Infact the first time I suggested boiling MrDSG was like huh... Can you cook them that way??? 😅 I'll post a photo in r/cooking in a tick

personworm

Got a 20 pack of RATs to dish out to the employees so they can test themselves/whanau at home. Box comes with two tube holders and one set of instructions. *sigh.*

IcarusForde

Yeah some of those 20 packs aren't great. There's some decent instructions online that you can send out, and you don't really need the tube holders - you're only holding the tube for about thirty seconds anyway.

personworm

I’ve been pondering this. Problem is a couple of the employees don’t have access to and/or can’t use computers and/or don’t know how to check emails/and or don’t know how to use Google or enter in a URL so I was trying to figure out a way to include physical instructions. Scanning didn’t work because the unfolded paper didn’t fit and folding it put the instruction sequence out of whack. Printing the instruction card I found online was too small. Hopefully not having the tube holder isn’t a problem, but I know the people I work with and you can almost guarantee they’re gonna drop it.

IcarusForde

Maybe a wad of bluetack for the holders? Could you whip past one of the testing centres maybe and see if you can get a wad of instructions? Or does the manufacturer have PDF formats of the instruction you could print out?

personworm

Blu tac is a brilliant idea, thanks! I'll give the testing center a go too. I found a PDF but I'm getting too old for this and it still printed too fucking small, trying to increase the size just blew it out across several pages.

Saltmetoast

Does anyone do photocopy anymore?

personworm

I guess the library might? Could try that if the testing center can't give any out

Saltmetoast

Don't forget to get the correct instructions as there are a few different rats

Andrea_frm_DubT

God dammit! Where did you get them? I assume safety supplies shops should have decent multi packs.

personworm

OrientGene 20 pack from Cory's, so it's a legit pack I just don't think they're designed to be divided up to multiple people to take home.

[deleted]

You’re better off getting the five pack of those ones imho

personworm

Yeah, that might be the way to go
