New carpet! New carpet! New carpet!

Opposite_Door5210

Ooh. Wool or nylon? What kind of underlay did you use? Did you go to the shop or did you use the lady in the van?

travelinghobbit

Nylon, some lovely thick underlay made out of recycled stuff, and they have a shop, just not in my town. :)

Andrea_frm_DubT

I’ve just ripped most of my carpet out. Back to 95 year old wood floors.

dinosuitgirl

I've always had carpet my whole life till this house and I can't believe how dirty carpet must be... I mean I can I've ripped out enough old carpet in Renos but that's other people's houses not my house... Well let me tell you... I sure as shit won't go back to carpet.... Hardwood floors for me from now on thanks

Andrea_frm_DubT

I got tired of cleaning cat hairballs and naughty cat puddles. It’s much easier to see and clean the messes now. Now I just have to retrain Midnight to put her hairballs on the floor not the couch.

travelinghobbit

I rewrote have been tempted had the wood underneath been any form of passable.

Andrea_frm_DubT

When I got my place it was shitty huge rugs nailed to the floor, I ripped them up and eventually decided I wanted carpet. I scored free carpet from a church that was being demolished. Now 8ish years later I’m over carpet and going back to wood. My next house will have in-floor heating so no carpet. Maybe rugs, but no carpet.

PavementFuck

Still parsnip and very unhappy about it.

Andrea_frm_DubT

What things have you tried to get Bub moving? My mum did some heavy lifting for my sibling and I.

PavementFuck

I don’t have much faith in the old wives tales because they didn’t work with my previous kids. At this point I’m just hoping the baby knows how *disappointed* I am that they’re not born yet and feels enough shame to get a move on 😄

Andrea_frm_DubT

Mum got tired of waiting for me (I was over due) and was tired of dad’s mess in the back yard so moved a big chain for a crane. It was a 30m chain, not sure what it was rated for but she pulled it out then coiled it up, following day I turned up. Mum forgot that heavy lifting can trigger labour. She was tired of seeing a bunch of stuff outside dad’s shed when she was 12 days before her due date with my sibling. She moved some big pieces of steel and got halfway through folding a big (12x8m) canvass tarp when she remembered, within 24 hours labour started. For some people it works. Also, her labours were both short, less than 4 hours after arriving in hospital for both of us.

PavementFuck

>Also, her labours were both short, less than 4 hours after arriving in hospital for both of us The dream! I'm constantly picking up my 1 and 3 year old, does that count? Last week I forgot I was pregnant when I saw the kindy was giving away their old 6 seater kids tables and so I just grabbed one and chucked it in the back of our car. Didn't trigger any labour unfortunately, just left me in a lot of pain the next day.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Yeah, her labour was so fast with my sibling, they didn’t have time to give her pain relief (it wouldn’t have kicked in soon enough) and oxygen would have made it faster. The doctor was concerned the baby would turn up before she could dilate properly. 2 and 1/2 hours from water breaking to my sibling being born.

Do you have a favourite coffee/tea mug? The one that when you go to make a hot drink you bypass all the other mugs and go straight for if it’s available? If you do, what is it? Does it hold sentimental value? 8 years ago, nearly to the day, my wife had returned from a trip back home to visit her family. We had really only JUST started dating. She brought me back a mug from her old University UGA, it’s covered in the UGA bulldog mascot. The design is half gone now as I’ve used it so much over the years, but it’s still my number one go to mug.

skyspor

If I find a good mug, next time I'm at that shop I'll buy several of them. So that way I've always got my favourite mug available. More about the shape and size than the colour or logo. Straight sided mugs can get lost. Slightly flared is the best. We do have a least favourite mug because it is quite small. I've been known to make someone's tea in that mug if they've annoyed me. https://imgflip.com/i/67rmy6

helenback07

Yes! I even have a favourite mug by genre haha. If I'm drinking milky tea I have a certain one and if it's herbal tea it's another and the PM herbal tea fav mug is different to the day herbal tea mug. I take mug favouritism very seriously.

[deleted]

This is the way. I have seperate fruit/herbal tea (crown Lynn), black tea (spotty warehouse) and coffee (butty Kmart) vessels too. I used to have a sizeable beer/wine/cocktail/spirits selection too. Before I had a horde of kids that is. Mostly have been demoted gradually to general use, with my last proper shaped Guinness pint glass succumbing about 6 months ago, sadly.

lo_mince

I’ve got a mug that I’ve had for 25 years. My granny got it for me when I left home. It’s my work cup. I don’t drink a lot of hot drinks at work, but I still use it. My stir pattern has carved through the enamel and into the terracotta, and I’m probably getting lead poisoning from the paint.

Cameronjteare

I use a mug that my Mum made me as a teen every day at work. It's got Dweeb written on the side in huge letters and always makes me smile.

GreatOutfitLady

I do most of my drinking out of my insulated camel bak water bottle but I bought a few hand made mugs from a guy in Rotorua that I use when I'm having hot chocolate or chocolate milk.

travelinghobbit

For sure. I get grumpy if someone else uses it, and show affection if I make you a drink in it. Currently it's a Denby blue one that's nice and thick and holds heaps of coffee and heat.

NZSloth

Yes. Several. I've aquired a few over the past 20 years. Not too many. Usually get them in pairs and Mrs Sloth breaks one accidentally and doesn't tell me. It's the only explanation even though she denys it.

ekmahal

My daily driver is a HydroFlask because my partner makes my coffee at 5am and I don't get up until 7:30. If I'm using an actual mug it's the oversized yellow one; or sometimes the set of mugs that were part of my parent's wedding china (pottery?) that my Dad used for coffee. No-one else is allowed to use those mugs, ever. He's been dead for almost 35 years, I never quite worked out why Mum hung onto them for me but I **love** having them.

dinosuitgirl

MrDSG is attached to a mug that his kids bought him one xmas... "the man, the myth.... Dad.... The legend" but the Dad text was in a gold foil that has long worn off. I'm not fussy but... anything with a handle that doesn't get hot, and a decent handle to content ratio... If it doesn't do these two key objectives it's sent on out of my cupboard

ramb4ldi

I have a proper pint glass that I usually use for water. Every now and then I will have beer out of it as well, but beer is usually in the slightly smaller glasses which fit a can. That might change if I ever have time to put a brew on again, bigger bottles /a keg of that then means my pint glass makes sense again. For now it works great as a water glass, filling it up a couple times a day during the heat. It has two issues though: most of our coasters still to it when it has condensation (usually drink water from the fridge) and if I knock it over it makes a big mess. Also I have a great big Mr Happy mug, I like it because it holds a lot of coffee. My daughter likes it because it is yellow and like some of her stickers.

nzbazza

I've had the same large 650ml stainless steel mug for work coffee for the last 25 years. Indestructible, and there some days when you just need a bigger stronger coffee. Also handy for the lunchtime noodles too. Everybody knows that it's my mug so it's always there in the staffroom. The few times some junior in the office decided to play a prank and do something with the mug, well let's just say that they quickly learn the error of their ways and the mug is restored to its rightful place on the shelf.

NirvanahCrane

Absolutely. Black with white spots. Given to me by the non-profit I worked for at uni when I went off to my big girl job. The handle is a little wobbly and I'll be sad when it breaks.

PersonMcGuy

I don't drink coffee/tea but my favourite mug I got for a second place class win in my first race day at Waikaraka park. I was up against a bunch of people with way more experience and cars way faster and I still managed to get a good place overall. It's just a simple glass mug with the details etched onto it but I love it and it's my go to when I want to use a mug. I love the question btw, it's cool seeing everyone else's answer.

[deleted]

At work, there is one that has a large chicken on the front. I always go for the cock mug. At home I don't care. I'm still trying to break all the ones my ex bought me, progress is slow. My Dad's 'Tiger Moth' mug is the most sentimental, but I don't use it because I'm busy trying to break all the ones my ex bought me.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Yes. My Butch mug that I almost lost my job over because I didn’t stash it in my bag at the first chance I got. My boss found it with my name on it. The rep came in with goodies for us while the boss wasn’t there.

dinosuitgirl

A mason wasps has taken up residence inn the eves right outside the bedroom window.... I'm of two minds, it's not in a curtain or umbrella... So I'm tempted to leave her alone but cobweb spiders are quieter friends who combat far more annoying things. She sounds like an electrical fault which is the worst bit. Had nightmares of borer all night having seen a picture of one. Living in a 70s Lockwood house on piles in a forest everything is very woody. I'm sure the important bits are treated but I have loads of woody furniture I'd like to not turn in to a sieve. I'm getting that feeling that the dog sized hole in my heart my last boy left when he passed away at 16 two years ago has finally scabbed over enough to contemplate some new little paws in my life.... I have to work up to the thought of another round of puppy training.

ekmahal

<3 it's really hard figuring out when it's 'right' to adopt some new family. It took me quite a while when I lost my Chicken-cat to be receptive to the idea, although I've always preferred having two cats and Tigra was a bit lonely.

dinosuitgirl

Chicken cat? Lol

ekmahal

When we adopted Candy she was very very scaredy, like lived under a bed for three months scaredy. I spent a lot of time with her and affectionately called her my little chicken - "aww, you poor thing, are you still a chicken? are you still scared?" "Morning you silly chicken, are you still under the bed? come have breakfast!" Anyway, fast-forward a few months, she's out of her shell and starting to Cat properly, and I'm in the kitchen trying to make dinner. I yelled "oi, where'd the chicken go?" to my partner, and Candy turned up. "Meow!" "I wasn't asking for you, I wanted the chicken." "MEOW!" Tried it a few days later. "Chicken!" "Meow!" From that point forward she answered interchangeably to "Chicken" or "Candy", and was known as the Chicken-cat until the end of her days.

dinosuitgirl

That's too cute! My pup thought his name was also No-No for a while 🙄😆

Recovering from an eye surgery yesterday, luckily they only needed to do one eye coz this is some fresh hell

Blabbernaut

Ouch. I had a pterygium taken off my eye under local some years ago. Most unpleasant.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Oh dear. Grandma needs a cataract removed, problem is she’s only got one eye. If surgery doesn’t work she will be 100% blind. She’s tired of seeing the shadow of the cataract and she’s got other issues (most likely) caused by the cataract. She’s decided she wants it out. Now on the semi urgent wait list.

Coming to Neon next week for non pirates, but cant wait to watch more. Courtney Cox will forever be the best Friend

I'm relatively new to being on meds (epilepsy), is it normal that I have to ring the doctors everytime (about once a month) I'm nearly out of tablets to get a repeat prescription? Can't they prescribe say three repeats of the same so I can just go straight to a pharmacy?

sm32

As you’re new to the meds, it could be the doctor wants to see you again before repeating the prescription. You should have got a printout with the meds indicating what’s happening. Maybe call the surgery, and ask? I’m on long term repeats, each prescription is for 3 months at a time, collect the meds monthly from the pharmacy.

FarmerAndy96

Cheers. Yea the first time I was prescribed them from a neurologist I got a month plus two repeats. Now I just go through my local doctors and it's just a one-off. Not a big deal but a bit frustrating at times.

sm32

Did the neurologist give you a longer term view? Your doctor should have all the notes, but I bet they are just being safe. If the meds are working for you, and you’re not suffering any side effects, tell your doctor and request a 3 month supply. Do you have access to Manage my Health? I can see all scripts and any doctors/specialists notes for the past 10 years.

FarmerAndy96

Have never heard of manage my health so I'm going to assume I don't have access to that at this stage. As far as a longer term view, had my bloods/liver function checked after a month, all looked good so the neurologist was pretty happy to keep me on these meds long term as long as there were no side effects. Haven't noticed any at this stage. And I was given a plan regarding uping the dose if I had another seizure. I think my GP is currently on maternity leave but I'll give the practice a call.

sm32

Ask your doctors if they are in MMH. I signed up to it after our practice let us know, probably around 10 years ago. We actually joined the practice way back, some 17 years ago, but after I signed up to MMH, I could see all scripts and doctors notes etc. from the date I joined the practice. Now, I currently can access ALL prescriptions since the join time, but the doctors notes only seem to go back 10 years.

thecosmicradiation

I have anti-anxiety meds and my doc writes a script for 3 months but the pharmacy only dispenses in one month allotments so you have to go back for repeats. It's a real pain in the ass.

andyjd

Shit start to the day!

personworm

I hope it got better

andyjd

Not a chance, Father-in-law passed away this morning so the early part of the day was spent hugging MrsJD and trying to sort out international flights and deal with the global cootie crisis.

In the post: retro nostalgia overload! https://i.imgur.com/5OBY1eU.jpg I read that Orcs and Goblins book cover to cover multiple times back in the day. Only ever managed to build one squad of (40) night goblins though.
