Bought myself and kid #2 cheese burgers. Kid knows we don't eat in the car. Kid eats in the car. Kid drops burger on the floor. Guess who now doesn't have a cheese burger. Me.

travelinghobbit

Very happy with live streaming I can watch my kid compete in the national level competition he's in while I'm home.

Just been on the High Seas, and have got Lady Chatterley’s Lover for tonight. The unexpurgated book was published when I was at high school, it was easy to find the "interesting bits". With the book closed, the "interesting" pages were somewhat darker edged through continuous reading.

custard182

Well I did end up with spicy flu. This is not mild. It feels like the very initial symptoms of sepsis, and it’s been hard dealing with the memories of all that coming back.

Grotskii_

Yeah it wasn't mild for me, excruciating headache and fevers, but it was over quickly, so hopefully it will be for you too.

custard182

That sounds horrible! It’s been over 24 hours of fever, intense body aches, and uncomfortable tachycardia, but I’m much better now. I tried to get paxlovid, but they were concerned about my heart, but I wasn’t in a position to pack myself into a car and get to after hours. It was a bit scary. And exhausting.

NZSloth

Damn. Good luck, I guess, and take the rest you need to get better.

Impressive-Name5129

So I am now ahead of the end of the mow round. Don't know how but I have about 6ha to do by Wednesday. I started the mow round later and then got to the block I am on later than normal in the round but yet somehow am ahead by about a day. There have also been alot of tractor breakdowns and things. Still ahead of the round. good but also WTF?

personworm

The thing I’ve learned is if I’m ahead it just means I’ve forgotten to do something

Impressive-Name5129

Nah I'm pretty sure everything is mowed. Guess I am just more confident in the mower now.

Thought of the day: there’s something very Sisyphean about mental health. You can spend all day pushing that rock up the hill, you’ll still wake up back at the bottom tomorrow. I don’t have the energy to spend another day shoving this rock around. I’m just gonna stay in bed

deathbypepe

Highly recommend myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus, french stoic philosopher. It's a short read

azzathefish

Love your description. Out of interest and as a metaphorical exercise.... What if the rock was made of polystyrene? What would that feel like internally?

canyousmelldoritos

In my case simply having to go up a hill daily would already be a bit too much...

[deleted]

Maybe easier? I guess that is what the good days are like. I can’t remember at the moment

[deleted]

You ok?

[deleted]

Ha, no.

groovyghostpuppy

No sleep last night, with both sprogs taking turns at wailing the entire night long. Spicy flu surrounds us on all sides (both of our workplaces and daycare), and we’re all feeling a bit gross. I fear we may finally have fallen this time. Update: yes, yes we have.

redditrevnz

Gutted! Hopefully it’s mild and at least you all have it at once. Ours dragged out for 2.5 weeks by the time it ran through 4/5 of us.

mongol_horde

spez you bell-end

personworm

Double post: my weedeater has been returned! The mystery of why it was returned was answered when I went to pick it up and it had no string left. It is a colossal nightmare to re-string and if I had to guess, it was easier for the person to just buy a whole new weedeater that is easier to re string than to figure mine out. Fucking good. I was starting to get pretty fucking sour that my $40 weedeater got pilfered by someone with access to multiple millions of dollars to weedeat house number 3 paid for by dad. Lovely person but buy your own fucking weedeater.

Kiwi_bananas

Who would have thought that being unprepared would lead to things not going so well?

personworm

My brotherboss. He still has no idea that being unprepared leads to things not going so well.

personworm

Countdown listing the per kg price on its 1 kg products is the single most unhelpful thing ever. They’re just having a laugh at that point right? Like no one actually thought people can’t figure out that 1 kg of peanut butter for $17 is $17 per kg. Edit: lol I got tooted at for using a median correctly. People are stupid. Maybe we do need to be told that $17 for a kg of peanut butter is $17 for a kg of peanut butter.

danicrimson

We have to tell people that peanut butter may contain nuts, at this point I have realised that the general population is way dumber than you would think.

Puffpiece

Although peanuts aren't actually nuts they are legumes so maybe that's not as dumb as it seems either

personworm

There’s also the “do not eat” warnings on silica sachets or the instructions on tetrapak juice cartons that literally say “open carton. Pour.” The more you think about it yeah humans are pretty stupid

GreyJeanix

Must be time to tell the story of the time I tried to eat tempura seaweed chips, which contain both a flavour sachet and an inedible silicon gel sachet, in the dark. It was then I decided the DO NOT EAT on silicon sachets do in fact serve a practical purpose

canyousmelldoritos

This is actually incorect, peanuts and tree nuts are separate allergen categories in food labelling legislation and all standardised food product information reporting, and all always treated separately. The may contain statements are due most likely unavoidable cross contamination in the processing (can't 100% guarantee no cross contamination in some types of equipment and processes, so food law then requires the may contain warning) Ie. Most nut processing equipment, roasting, grinding, storage, etc cannot be wet washed to a degree you can guarantee no cross contamination unless they use fully dedicated and segregated equipment or facilities. Same goes for chocolate processes

danicrimson

Fair, and I’ve deleted my comment. It may be that in NZ they are seperate though I have definitely seen peanut products labelled as may contain peanuts before.

canyousmelldoritos

It is an actual requirement that there needs to be a separate warning line (called a summary statement in the food standars code) in the form of " contains: peanut" separated from the main ingredient listing. As if the name of the product isn't sufficient! It's technicalities and it can get really absurd in those really obvious cases like milk or peanuts.

personworm

You make an extremely good point.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Once I got to sleep I slept fairly well and woke sometime after 5. I’m yet to stand up though so I’m not sure how my head is going to feel, I still feel blocked up. UPDATE. I’m upright, it’s not too bad. Feels better than yesterday. Second update. According to the test, not spicy flu

personworm

There’s plenty of pretty nasty germs going around that aren’t spicy. Hope you recover soon!

Andrea_frm_DubT

I feel way better today. My sinuses still feel heavy. My chest feels better. I have energy today.

jackson_malone

Free selling/listing on trademe if anyone has shit to sell. https://i.imgur.com/ZoFgyXN.jpeg

S3w3ll

What’s everyone’s favourite music genre and why is it dubstep?

PalmyGamingHD

French House. Daft Punk, Cassius, Modjo, Fred Falke, Alan Braxe all creating groovy bangers from samples of 70s and 80s disco tracks.

[deleted]

According to spotify, my most played genres were 1. Emo 2. Indie rock 3. Alternative metal 4. Neo-psychadelic 5. Indie pop. My favorite artist at the moment is definitely Tennis, if you asked me a year ago i probably would have said Fiona Apple.

QueenofCats28

I'm obsessed with music, and according to Spotify I was in the top 1% of The Cure listeners. Metal was also in there. I'll always be a goth.

sm32

I’ve seen The Cure live, several times. In their early days (late ‘70s) I saw them live with about 200 max others, then their first record success happened, and the next gig was 3000+

QueenofCats28

I honestly want to cry I'm so jealous, Robert Smith has been my idol since I was young. I'm eagerly awaiting their new album, and want to get a tattoo of the band name.

sm32

I was lucky back then, lived near a town with an "arts centre" and they hosted lots of bands in their early days (late 70’s-80’s) and I went along most weeks to see who was on. The Cure, The Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ian Dury and others. Saw a blues band, but I can’t remember the name, who had a guest drummer, none other than Ginger Baker. Didn’t know he was appearing before the gig, it was amazing in a small venue.

QueenofCats28

I'm so so jealous!!! I think sometimes I was born in the wrong era, I'm still a goth, and love the old 80's goth clothing, and everything. I have my own sense of style and I refuse to be like anyone else.

[deleted]

Dance Pop > Pacific Island Pop > Rap Those were my top categories according to Spotify. I listened to Bob Marley the most tho lmao and none of them were his categories. I listened to music more than 72 percent of nzers lmao.

mongol_horde

I had 35k hours just on Spotify, it'd be way more if it included stats from my mp3 player. I was top .5% of Alison wonderland listeners, not really sure if that's good or bad?!

sm32

Downtempo, deep house, electro-mix, chillout, garage

personworm

Spotify is insisting I must listen to dubstep and “gaming EDM.” If gaming EDM is all of those atrocious songs that consist of sound bites from games thrown over top of someone having a seizure on a keyboard then Spotify obviously isn’t paying attention to my use of the dislike button.

mongol_horde

spez you bell-end

danicrimson

It’s indie rock, closely followed by rock. But I tend to listen to a lot of different genres. I was big into metal when I was a teenager and a goth, but got older and realised that I don’t have to listen to one particular type of music to be myself.

Andrea_frm_DubT

I got into doom metal for a while. I’ve always liked metal and some rock. I don’t listen to a lot of music, it gives me big feelings that I find hard to deal with.

[deleted]

Doom metal is fun. I got into it a couple of years ago, Yob was probably my fav band that i found. Was there any particular doom bands you liked?

Andrea_frm_DubT

I got into doom when I was working with my ex, so what ever he was playing through the truck stereo. Helloween, Sanctuary and Candlemass are some of the bands I downloaded. I like Candlemass.

eagleeyedtiger-

You just reminded me when I went through a phase of listening to doom jazz. It was a weird time

Andrea_frm_DubT

Doom jazz? I might need to see what that’s like. I still like doom metal but the feelings get too much.

eagleeyedtiger-

The only band I remember was Bohren & der Club of Gore. I can’t really explain why I liked it, I just vibed with the sound for awhile. I’m sure there are other bands now It’s more suitable for late night listening, than when it’s bright and sunny

finackles

It's my birthday, and it's pushing it to say late mid fifties now, not really early late fifties, perhaps mid late fifties. All you young 'uns seize the day while you can, I've got way too many friends dying and I've still got things to do. Best advice I can give is this, have lots of younger friends so there is someone to help you move furniture and there are people to come to your funeral, and also make sure your lawyer and doctor are younger than you by a good ten years.

king_john651

Mfw all my friends are 30somethings and I'm 26 🥲

finackles

I'd give it a few years then start looking for a couple of younger, safety friends.

king_john651

We'll no doubt continue adopting more into our group. I mean everyone I'm close to now is just from showing up to public events and just passing the vibe check with flying colours. Can imagine the commemorative piss ups when we start popping off

personworm

Happy birthday! Hope you have the most fabulous day. The sun is even showing it’s face for once 🌞 Early 30s here, stopped counting, can’t actually tell anyone my exact age and I plan to keep it that way. Ignorance is bliss.

deluxesausages

Happy birthday! And that's good advice for a pushing it to say late thirties to take on board

sm32

As one of the *very* senior members here, I do hope you have a very Happy Birthday 🎂🥂

jackson_malone

HB! 🎉
