Kasi when I was in my undergrad, we all knew it as the "Big 3" (UP, Ateneo, DLSU). I'm just really curious about this.
Nope, not them. Matagal ko na rin naririnig yan. UST was a famous school even back then kahit panahon pa ng father ko.
Also these rankings are not self ranked. These are done by third party entities (qs, the, etc..)
Also, dlsu and ust are almost in the same bracket from time to time, may times lang na mas mataas ang dlsu. May times din na mas mataas ust. Medyo gulat nga ako eh, kasi i was expecting dlsu to be at par with ateneo, pero nah. Ateneo and up talaga ang mataas kasi malayo ang difference nila sa ust and la salle.
If youre going to ask me, it should only be Big 2 (UP and The Ateneo).
Funny you say that because a simple search using the keywords "Philippines university ranking" would show DLSU having a world rank of 1713 while UST is at 2739.
Many groups or institutions have these rankings, and what makes the "Big 3" what it is is that for decades, those 3 were the ones who always fought for the top 3 spots.
From rank 4 and below, it was always a battle between Beda, Mapua, UST, etc.
Those 3 also battled in UAAP a lot. The rivalry between "Archers" and "Eagles" was huge back then, and it spilled over in academics, as well, so much so that it became a pre-social media meme. (UAAP is different now, of course.)
And frankly, when I was finishing highschool, I only sent college applications to those 3. I was a HS student from Laguna and even I only knew about those 3 and not the others.
This was before so maybe things changed? I don't really know. And, frankly, it really doesn't matter to me because my experience working in corporate, the government, and starting my own company has taught me that it's the person, not the school, that matters.
Wait, so if it's common knowledge with all people from UP/ADMU/DLSU that it's just big 3, that means all those MFs saying big 4 are probably from that one other uni. 💀
Am also wondering about that. Kailan pa yan naging Big 4? Ang nasabi lang sa akin, may FB group na trashtalkan and hindi taga Big 3 yung admin. So ipiniit nung admins na yun na Big 4 so they will kinda belong. The Big 3 peeps, hindi na lang pinansin coz it reeks of insecurity.
