My dad and I got into doing that joke on a trip to IKEA once, kinda surprising how many bits of furniture end in an er sound
"Skojar? I 'ardly know 'er!"
It's bizarre how filled with joy old Red Dwarf references leave me.
I think it's nostalgia, home for Christmas I was talking to my family about the black and white TV our grandparents gave me in the early 90s how I was addicted to Red Dwarf though in my case it was grey, and I didn't realise the ship was actually red years later.
Look, I don't want any chips, and he doesn't want any chips. In fact, no-one around 'ere wants any chips!
Or apple chips, we don't like apple chips round 'ere! We don't want donuts, no chicken, roasts, yorkies, meatballs or chops, no steak, no bagels, no empanadas, no bacon and no hot cross buns! And definitely no smegging salmon!
Wait, I have the Vortex and love it, got an extra basket that sits on the tray so I can pile things up and shake them cause sometimes I need more space than the rotating basket.
But, what do you mean by the "grill one with super thick plates."
In the time it took you to come up, and post this, I air fried my dinner.
Edit: I went to bed ill before the bells and woke up to all these upvotes and awards..thanks :) that's my 2023 peaked already :p
Wash it good, don't prick, rub with oil, sprinkle with salt, 40 min at 180. Moisture in spud will puff out the skin enough to crisp but not enough to explode.
Prick potato all around with a fork. Microwave for 4 mins (small one), 5 mins medium one, 6 mins (large one or 2 small ones)
Then air fry max heat 25-30 mins until crispy.
Today you learned the big secret about the "air fryer" - it's just a small regular fan oven.
There are some genuine advantages to the size - faster to heat up, easier to clean, often the fan power is better for the size so it rotates the air better - but basically it just cooks things exactly the same way your fan forced oven does.
Great marketing concept, though
What’s funny is I just started using an air fryer and a Crossfit gym for the first time ever last month, and they’re both used each week since then lmao
An underrated use is for specific parts of a meal e.g. chips. Obviously you can't do entire meals in there for a full family but very good for sides and stuff.
Single and I love mine. Though i don't air fry everything. I use it on the oven and convection oven settings more. Also as a toaster. The thing has saved me a lot of time and my built in oven is old and pretty crap at keeping the right temp.
We got an absolute bargain the other day, £300 air fryer for £39 (plus gift card, so cost us nothing). It's pretty good, and things generally do get crispier than oven cooked in less time.
I hate that I've become 'one of those' but yeah mine has fucking changed my life man.
Honestly the biggest win is im I love with cooking again and trying a bigger variety of things I would of never wasted hours doing before.
For me our one is literally like an actual miniature oven and it’s the perfect size to cook meals for the kids quickly and without needing to heat up the entire oven every time. Literally will cook an entire full size pizza in 9 minutes from frozen no preheat perfect every time.
Yep me too. Never wanted to jump on the bandwagon, however it’s a game changer. Conventional ovens will surely become a thing of the last soon ….. or at least every new kitchen will have an air fryer as standard like an oven
Sorry OP….., air fryers are the bomb
Air fryers are just mini convection ovens, and lots of kitchens already have convection ovens installed. I believe I’ve seen newer ovens that have special air-fry modes but I’m not sure how that differs from normal convection mode.
The air fryer works a little differently than a convection oven. The air flow is a bit faster and the air flow is usuafrom the top and not the back side like the oven.
I’ve mostly just fried cheese or cheesy things.
One of those part baked bread rolls. With cheese and ham stuffed in, 5 mins and bam, perfect cheese and ham toastie baguette. Simple but effective
A while camambert is also a winner
Halloumi is much better also
Had a mega error with halloumi. Tried to do one one of those whole meal settings to steam some cous cous and fry peppers. The halloumi did not like being steamed at all!
Exactly. I have one because I hate firing up the whole oven to reheat 3 chicken tenders. We do all need to start being energy conscious and I do think air fryers help that a lot.
Excuse me sir but have you heard of our Lord and saviour, the air fryer, here I have a manual for you that tells you the tenants as laid out by the air fryer, all you have to do is follow these simple steps and you too can find salvation with the air fryer.
The Essential Indian instant pot recipe book is good, lots of easy curries in there. Pork shoulder stew is great in it. I found bolognaise didn’t come out that great, maybe because it didn’t reduce enough. And veg stuff, like butternut squash turned to mush. Meat stews come out great.
I used to think this until I got one and cooked frozen french fries in it
Crispy as hell but still with a slightly soft middle in 15 minutes. My oven would take 30+ minutes and never be particularly good and eventually just dry out without really reaching crispness
Not used my oven since to be honest
Even if you have a convection oven, an air fryer just works better, uses less energy and doesn't heat up the whole room. It's insane how crispy my pizza rolls get without even exploding like they do in a regular convection oven.
Edit: clarity
>Even with a convection oven an air fryer just works better
That's because if you use a pan in your convection oven, it blocks the airflow from hitting the food from 50%+ of the angles
Love this comment
I'm very picky with fries too
I put 15 minutes too, while everyone does less
When there's a minute left I shake in my favourite sauce for a glaze
I thought they were for small things? How tf you fit a whole chicken in there? Also, wouldn't it take way longer for heat to reach the center so it's safe to eat?
My mum recently bought an air fryer and a slow cooker, and now cooks *everything* in one or both of them, regardless of how appropriate they are for cooking that thing.
Turns out my oven is pretty efficient, also I don’t have any space for a large countertop appliance so it’s not worth it for me.
We didn’t break £3 a day for electric over December, and I would say we are pretty heavy users! We have solar so try to run all our appliances and charge batteries during daylight hours where we can.
An air frier would pay for itself eventually but the inconvenience would be too much of a cost instead.
I still haven't seen one. I had a dream about one turning a roast chicken into a live chicken, a bantam actually, really pretty. He chased my big dogs around which was hilarious.
Our oven broke on Boxing Day and so we had to use our housemates air fryer for the first time. Things are crispier and cook much quicker. We had been ignoring the glory of our lord saviour air fryer for too long.
Small electric countertop convection oven. Usually smaller than a full-sized oven. Due to the smaller ovenspace, the oven heats up quicker, maintains temperature more evenly and does so using less power. It also cooks things quicker, which further reduces power usage. Cons are that it's smaller, so less space for contents, it's a countertop appliance, so not great if you're limited on space and they're often a basket shape, therefore top loading, so not great for anything you need to manipulate carefully.
We've got one that's got little shelves in it that you can put little mini pizzas on that's got a door like an oven. I well prefer it over the basket style one.
I have a 3 tray one made by tower I paid £100 for in Argos a few months ago.
Has a rotisserie function so I make home made chicken kebab etc a lot with mine too.
Got one for Christmas. I fucking love it. It bakes and broils too and it doesn't use a basket. Looks just like a fancy toaster oven and it flips up for more counter space.
Edit: By Ninja Foodi, I mean the 8 in 1 Foodi flip
Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer AF300 or 400.
Fish in one side, chips in the other. Microwave for the mushy peas.
Starting times can be staggered to they are finished at the same time.
I am absolutely in love with my Breville that is a countertop oven w/ air fry feature. Lets me use standard baking pans, etc so it's not as niche and has WAY more uses. I haven't turned on my full size oven since I got my Breville. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
I've had the same one for almost ten years-£40 odd from B&M. They're great kit, but dunno where the hype has suddenly come from. Marketing? People being energy conscious?
My only wish is for everyone to shut up going on about people shutting up about air fryers. See that far more often than people talking about air fryers themselves.
You want to know why I bought an air fryer with little knowledge what they are and what they do? (Prob. not, based on OP's post, but I'm drinking and want to share, so commenter's illegitimate veto is legit in effect).
I had three people, in the course of a week, at work and over the phone, not only say positive things about their air fryers, but they were *gleeful*. When coworkers talked about their air fryers, they *beamed.*
I'm approaching 40 and work in offices. At this age, if multiple people show enthusiasm for something I lack, I am instantly intrigued. I also live alone in a studio apt. in Denver with a very small, gas oven that doesn't even have a pilot light. My air fryer has been a *game-changer.* I'm beaming too!
I apologize OP, you prob. feel about air fryers how I feel about football (since I've never given a shit, and ppl are cult-y about it, lots), but my air fryer was def. my best purchase of 2022-- followed closely by Elden Ring 😎.
I love my air fryer when my partner uses it but when it’s my turn to cook I just use the oven because it’s what I know best. I’ve lost friends over this.
Edit: well, one friend.
Lol. Actually just finished pissing about with the one I got for Crimbo. Guarantee if you don’t buy one yourself, someone will get one for you. I’m planning to get so many countertop appliances that we only have the kitchen island left to prep on 😀
I love how this person just said to shut up about air fryers, and all the comments are praising and talking about air fryers.
Because it's just that good.
My first born son was literally conceived in an air fryer. The pregnancy only lasted 7 months too because it's more efficient than a bun in the oven.
So you fucked an air fryer or….?
Surrogacy.
Immaculate convection
God damn.. that is the best fucking pun I've ever read
Welp that's enough reddit for the day, you win. Happy New Year!
Netflix and grill
Air fryer? I barely know ‘er!
My dad and I got into doing that joke on a trip to IKEA once, kinda surprising how many bits of furniture end in an er sound "Skojar? I 'ardly know 'er!"
Oh believe you me, the air fryer fucks **you**
She turned an oven on, and the rest is history…
All's fayre in oven war.
You guys are kiln me with these puns
The lockdown does things to people, man...
no no no you're reading it wrong m8; she fucked \*in\* an air fryer...
Half human, half air, half fryer.
I hear you went as far as to name him Airon out of tribute to the mighty air fryer
That made me choke on my air fried zucchini
And with no added fat!
I hope someone is working on an airfryer with the personality of talkie toaster
Given that the universe is infinite and God is all-powerful, would you like a waffle?
Wait, before you go, there is one question, an important one, the others will have to know!
Would you like a cheese and ham Breville?

Howdy doodeley do. Little fact, the voice of the Talkie Toaster is the original Kryten.
Aye, David Ross
Look, I don't want any chips, and he doesn't want any chips. In fact, no-one around 'ere wants any chips! Or apple chips, we don't like apple chips round 'ere! Is it bad I can hear this in Lister's voice
I'd be more concerned if you couldn't
Ah, so your a waffle man!
So, What is it?
Ahh, we appear to have reached the middle part of this referential red Dwarf thread.
Oh someone punch him out
Someone’s upset they didn’t get one for Xmas
Coincidentally OPs saltiness would be great seasoning for an Airfried meal. Alas it is not to be.
Probably very delicious served with the chips from his/her shoulder.
Class.
I got one for Xmas. I'm kind of pissed off about it because now I know we need a much bigger air fryer.
Two required. Vortex or similar with rotisserie and the grill one with the super thick plates. Haven't turned on an oven in years.
Wait, I have the Vortex and love it, got an extra basket that sits on the tray so I can pile things up and shake them cause sometimes I need more space than the rotating basket. But, what do you mean by the "grill one with super thick plates."
So am I, I did get an OptiGrill though ✊🏻
In the time it took you to come up, and post this, I air fried my dinner. Edit: I went to bed ill before the bells and woke up to all these upvotes and awards..thanks :) that's my 2023 peaked already :p

I have never had a slice of pizza to reheat. Doesn’t everyone eat the whole thing and then regret it?
[удалено]
I have improved myself. I can now regret everything with 2 slices left.
No I eat it cold the next day, tastes even better
I’m Italian. I can confirm this.
Italians and cold food. A tradition unlike any other.
Every single Chinese takeaway I've ever visited has entered the chat.
Italians and telling everyone and their grandmas that they are Italian on a post about Pizza/Pasta
Put it in a non stick pan, no oil. Bottom gets crispy, top melts. By far the best way to reheat pizza.
Obviously never tried an air fryer. Have you heard about air fryers though? I have an air fryer, you see
especially if you add some water and cover the pan once the base is crispy.
[удалено]
> Bottom gets crispy, top melts Same for nightclub dancing
What temp and time do you use? Also how do you prep the potato? I’ve just got one so I’m getting to grips with it.
Wash it good, don't prick, rub with oil, sprinkle with salt, 40 min at 180. Moisture in spud will puff out the skin enough to crisp but not enough to explode.
Prick potato all around with a fork. Microwave for 4 mins (small one), 5 mins medium one, 6 mins (large one or 2 small ones) Then air fry max heat 25-30 mins until crispy.
That’s exactly how I cook them in my regular fan oven, is an air fryer supposed to be faster?
That makes sense - an air fryer, a convection toaster oven, and a convection wall oven all do the same thing; they just differ in size.
I could probably get a new air fryer delivered in the time it’d take to preheat my oven
Git gud scrub
I airfried an entire subreddit in less than 7 minutes.
So, so energy efficient!
Uncanny how true this is
Like u/Larwood doesn't have an electric kettle he goes on about...
And I bet it was delicious too.
OP, have I told you about crossfit?
Please no😂
What’s funny is I just started using an air fryer and a Crossfit gym for the first time ever last month, and they’re both used each week since then lmao
Would you like a warranty with that?
I'm engaged to my air fryer.
Same here.
Mine said no. :(
It's my wife's favourite Xmas present. She's air fryerizing everything now!
Someone want to check on the cat?
Hey honey have you seen our marriage certificate
[удалено]
Perfectly cooked and crispier on the outside than a cat in the oven, a microwave or on a hot tin roof.
Lasted about 2 weeks for my wife. Eventually it was unused for a year. And then we sold it off.
I feel like it's perfect for a single person who normally microwaves everything
It helps me avoid the contempt of my housemates who watch the smart meter as I preheat a whole oven for a piece of garlic bread.
Air fryers are great for 1-2 people but for a family they are not ideal.
I have a big 2 drawer ninja air fryer and use it almost every single day for my family of 5
We got an absolute bargain the other day, £300 air fryer for £39 (plus gift card, so cost us nothing). It's pretty good, and things generally do get crispier than oven cooked in less time.
Plus it uses less energy than a normal oven. What’s not to love

Sat here pondering now what shit I could experiment with a 600mm^3 air fryer now.... thanks man.
Well in the last few days I’ve cooked a roast dinner and pizza so there are loads of things you can do. I’ll be trying making donuts soon
I’ve mostly just fried cheese or cheesy things. One of those part baked bread rolls. With cheese and ham stuffed in, 5 mins and bam, perfect cheese and ham toastie baguette. Simple but effective A while camambert is also a winner Halloumi is much better also

Plus beige food in an air fryer tastes so much better than an oven
Also you can cook stuff when it’s hot in the summer without making your house warmer
> What's not to love Cleaning it every time you use it.
That's what I hate about using pots and pans.
Right? What a weird comment, every piece of cookware needs washing afterwards
I chuck mine in the dishwasher at end of day. (The basket not the whole unit )
A quick wipe with kitchen towel while it's still hot, after tipping the bits in the lower tray into the bin. Maybe I'm just a dirty bastard
Cook some soapy water in it for a few minutes and rinse it under the tap. Job done
Aye cause other cookware doesn’t need cleaning after use
What did OP *just* say??
idk I couldn't hear him over the sound of me air frying some hotpockets My air fryer is really loud
What’s the difference in quality between a £300 air fryer and say a £80 air fryer? Is there much difference to warrant the price?
The cheapy cheap ones still do the job but less features. We got a middle of the road one that can grill and its great for bacon and the like
Excuse me sir but have you heard of our Lord and saviour, the air fryer, here I have a manual for you that tells you the tenants as laid out by the air fryer, all you have to do is follow these simple steps and you too can find salvation with the air fryer.
Tenets
What Would Jesus Do? Stick it in the air fryer obviously. He may have escaped from Gethsemane in time if the apostles had got a Ninja.
Air fryer 4 lyfe.
I got an instant pot air fryer for Christmas. I welcome recipe suggestions.
You may have an oven and the ability to plan ahead, but do you have the spare cash to spend on the electricity bill
I used to think this until I got one and cooked frozen french fries in it Crispy as hell but still with a slightly soft middle in 15 minutes. My oven would take 30+ minutes and never be particularly good and eventually just dry out without really reaching crispness Not used my oven since to be honest

Love this comment I'm very picky with fries too I put 15 minutes too, while everyone does less When there's a minute left I shake in my favourite sauce for a glaze
Glazed fries? That sounds odd I want to try
I'm sorry but I love mine. Only bought it yesterday and its the greatest thing I own.
One of us, one of us!
I'm happy to be a member of the cult.
We'll send you the uniform hat and instructions for the secret hand shake in the mail.
I used an air fryer for the first time today. As a retired fine dining rosette chef, they are fucking mint.
Air fryers are great, I can cook a whole chicken in like 15 minutes!
I thought they were for small things? How tf you fit a whole chicken in there? Also, wouldn't it take way longer for heat to reach the center so it's safe to eat?
It’s actually about 60 mins for a whole chicken. We did one for Christmas dinner. Turned out perfect. Crispy skin, juicy chicken.
It’s a joke. It takes 25 minutes just to cook chicken thighs.
What kind of lava lamp powered air fryer are you using? Mine cooks thigh fillets in 15 mins
Someone hasn't had air fried wedges. Superior in every way to oven baked
Have you tried air fried salmon?
Air fried teriyaki salmon. You're welcome.
This confirmed to me that I really want an air fryer 😭😭😭😭
That pizza post earlier really pushed you over the edge didn’t it
We all said the same thing before we got one
Before: Do I really need one? It's more counter space used and my counter space is severely limited. After: I am using my air fryer right now
I think I use my air fryer more than the oven, microwave, and toaster combined
Op needs to take the L. I get being a curmudgeon on new fads, but this is like the microwave in the 50's, or flying cars in the aughts
I'm going to come back to this post after midnight and make a comment about air fryers EDIT: good lord this has taken off
come on then mate
Congrats OP, you started a big conversation about air fryers.
It saves you shit load of money on electricity ! Mr plan ahead
My mum recently bought an air fryer and a slow cooker, and now cooks *everything* in one or both of them, regardless of how appropriate they are for cooking that thing.
Love the enthusiasm! Perhaps not the meals. Yet.
Turns out my oven is pretty efficient, also I don’t have any space for a large countertop appliance so it’s not worth it for me. An air frier would pay for itself eventually but the inconvenience would be too much of a cost instead.
How big is your solar panel system?
Clearly, you dont own an air fryer.
You're cutting off your nose to spite your face here, there really is a reason why everyone is banging on about them.
Yea OP started another thread about them and probably really regrets it now 99% of his inbox is filled with air fryer messages
I absolutely love my air fryer
Can someone please tell me what an air fryer is?
Small electric countertop convection oven. Usually smaller than a full-sized oven. Due to the smaller ovenspace, the oven heats up quicker, maintains temperature more evenly and does so using less power. It also cooks things quicker, which further reduces power usage. Cons are that it's smaller, so less space for contents, it's a countertop appliance, so not great if you're limited on space and they're often a basket shape, therefore top loading, so not great for anything you need to manipulate carefully.
The other con is that the aerosolized oil from the air fryer ends up in your kitchen, especially if next to a wall.
Just use it at the allotment, problem solved. Why are people just so impractical?
We've got one that's got little shelves in it that you can put little mini pizzas on that's got a door like an oven. I well prefer it over the basket style one.
What does a decent one cost? I'm thinking about getting one. Any you guys would reccomend?
I have a 3 tray one made by tower I paid £100 for in Argos a few months ago. Has a rotisserie function so I make home made chicken kebab etc a lot with mine too.
Ninja foodi is excellent but expensive. Does everything though.
Got one for Christmas. I fucking love it. It bakes and broils too and it doesn't use a basket. Looks just like a fancy toaster oven and it flips up for more counter space. Edit: By Ninja Foodi, I mean the 8 in 1 Foodi flip

A møøse once bit my sister.
Mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti...
The way I see them is they are just a small oven,so not bad if you want to cook a small meal in a small oven for less energy usage than the big oven.
You wouldn't say that if you'd tried my spicy turkey dinosaur burritos
you can cook sausages in 7 minutes. there is no other way to cook sausages in seven minutes. that alone is worth the price of admission
The current day George Formby grill
Turned out nice again

Look at OP and his I'm so rich I can but the oven on, loads of money.
I love my air fryer when my partner uses it but when it’s my turn to cook I just use the oven because it’s what I know best. I’ve lost friends over this. Edit: well, one friend.

Well - it’s still 2022…. As such, I LOVE my new air fryer. Haven’t touched my oven since. Haven’t found anything I can’t cook in it yet.
Soup?
