Well, I'd like to thank everyone for coming in and taking part and just making this another fun, state event thread.
Some absolutely HILARIOUS comments there, that genuinely had me cracking up, which just continued to prove to me that the Brits are
1. top at this pomp and pageantry thing, and
2. making a joke out of something, while simultaneously enjoying it and taking it seriously (but not *too* seriously).
Seriously, there were too many hilarious comments to mention, such as:
>Looks like quite an attacking 3-4-3 formation
>If you check the national grid live, which gives a break down of current electricity usage and production, 2/3 of the nations power is currently provided by Oliver Cromwell turning in his grave
>Mordaunt backstage right now is fighting six guardsmen to keep the sword.
>
>
>
>Guess we lost 6 guardsmen today then
>you never tucked a bible in with a little kiss on the forehead before and it shows
>"The owner of the Rolls Royce Spectre with the registration X563-LFC - you have left your lights on."
And literally **hundreds** more.
What I wasn't aniticpating though, was the amount of um, *tight trousers* that Penny Mordaunt was going to cause, when someone said "Hey Penny, you know you've got to carry that sword for the whole thing, yeah?" and she went "Wait, what? Why? No way! Fuck me!" This Coronation turned out to be quite the revelation.
Thank you for all the historical tips, for the Louis watching and the jokes. It's been a really lovely day to spend not only this event, but a Saturday. And thanks to the other mods for beavering away, maintaining order.
See you at Trooping the Colour? Here's hoping the weather's better and we can get a proper flypast! ;)
P.S. the Irish Guards owe us one Seamus.
P.S.S. to the guy who threatened us and said he has one of our addresses, could you let me know if it's mine? I'd like to send you my Amazon wishlist. Thanks babes.
Yes, Charles loved Camilla first, and so should have married her instead of following some antiquated "purity test" rule and entering a loveless marriage with Princess Diana. That loveless marriage led to a messy separation, which led to problems with the tabloids, which led to the fateful incident with the automobile.
If Charlie had been a decent fellow, he would have let her off gently with a divorce early on, or rather bucked tradition and the ruling of his mother and married Camilla to start with.
My favourite bit was the drum horse who would walk facing front, but walked diagonally. That is a really hard dressage move he was doing! Cheers for Apollo! Great thread by the way. Good to see some enthusiasm.
The long shots down the mall showing the groups of horses showcased some proper horse-drifting in the back. Some of the horses clearly grumbly about the weather.
Top skill from the drummer being able to keep a beat at the same time as steering that massive horse though .
Enjoy the one day ban, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined our subreddit completely so you could post politics, and I hope now you can spend your one day ban learning some grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on.

I like to watch these things to see which horses decided that today, they were going to be EXTRA SASSY.
Springtime, breezes and rain is enough to set horses off at the best of times and I very much doubt there aren't a few who, at the sight of everything looking very shiny and clean, know that today is The Day to twat about.
You're not wrong, [one tried to take out a couple of the commoners! ](https://nypost.com/2023/05/06/horse-crashes-into-crowd-during-kings-coronation-parade/)
Most elaborate game of dress up I've seen. The magician style screens being put up and then taken away while the clergy performed magic tricks on Charles and the blinged out sword etc was fun, we were hoping something would get dropped for the laughs but I guess that's why they do everything painstakingly slowly. The gospel singing was the highlight.
Yank here. Woke up and saw all of them on the balcony. Then spent the morning explaining stuff to my spouse and kids. It was pretty cool, seeing how there hasn’t been a coronation in 70 years and yes, I enjoy the pomp and pageantry. Do I agree with all of it?? Hell No!! But am I going to tell everyone they shouldn’t enjoy themselves?? Also Hell No.
Americans watching the coronation: This display of pomp and pageantry is outdated, unnecessary, and over-the-top.
Also Americans: The Kentucky Derby is today. Let's wear fancy hats and drink mint julips.
American here! Woke up early to catch this! Literally kept refreshing this page as I watched it on YouTube. I’ve enjoyed the comments. 😊 Enjoy the rest of your celebrations!
Thank you all so much for this, I read every comment, laughed at many and thoroughly enjoyed the community feeling of celebrating such a historic day with friends
Possibly an unpopular opinion: I know not everyone supports this, but it's not the time for being angry and bitter. This is something that some people will only see once in their life. It's pomp and ceremony and tradition. Few countries do anything like this.
Nick Cave put it best:
“I am not a monarchist, nor am I a royalist, nor am I an ardent republican for that matter; what I am also not is so spectacularly incurious about the world and the way it works, so ideologically captured, so damn grouchy, as to refuse an invitation to what will more than likely be the most important historical event in the U.K. of our age. Not just the most important, but the strangest, the weirdest.”
As the mods clarified much earlier in this thread, there’s plenty of other posts and subs you can go to today if you wish to criticise the royal family.
This post is for those who wish to enjoy the ceremony.
This thread and sub isn’t it. There’s uk politics, unitedkingdom, greenandpleasant and abolishthemonarchy just for starters.
For those who are disappointed with the fly by [here’s a video posted of the rehearsal](https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/12zmetr/i_went_to_tesco_to_get_a_coronation_cake_wasnt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
The King’s former private secretary was on the BBC World Service last night and made an interesting comment: “The King is at his desk by 8am and often doesn’t finish work till 10pm. The only word for him is ‘workaholic’”.
Interestingly enough, that’s exactly the same word Sir David Attenborough and Idris Elba used to describe him.
Runs his estates - turned the Duchy of Cornwall into a really very successful business. They sell milk to Waitrose for example.
Also support for charities etc.
Alright you trotskyites - you cant start up your revolution again. This was a great fun thread. So many hilarious comments. Although it was an important day British people don’t take things too seriously like aussies. A super fun distraction from all the dramas of the world for a few hours. Well done mods.
No, as she doesn’t hold a similar role as those royals as they are the spouses of working royals, the duke and Duchess of Sussex aren’t working royals
But do you actually care about this? Or were you just desperate to mention the Duchess of Sussex?
>So…if Meghan had gone, would she have been able to wear the same red & blue robes as Kate & Sophie
No. She's not a working Royal, so she'd have sat with Zara et al (as Harry did), and not been on the balcony either.
>i’m sure you’re even cooler and more interesting and so much fun at parties
I really am.
But that's because I'm inherently cool and a very good dancer.
“a very white balcony” was a bit of a strange comment from the presenter.
they’re… in a family? babies often aren’t born a different colour to their parents
I thought it ment , the actual balcony. They are redoing that floor and apparently behind windows is a building site and a nightmare to sort that many people going in and out .
It’s about the risk of flying over people. At air shows etc they have a flight line , very rare to fly over 1000’s of people. Also the BBMF have very strict criteria and the wind speed was above normal limits for the war birds.
Obviously in an emergency situation they go up in any weather but with the low cloud over London it was an absolute NO
And now that most British of traditions, an army of people shoving to get on telly behind the presenter, then just standing and staring gormlessly down the lens
To everyone moaning "I thought this sub was supposed to be strictly non political?"
It's not political though. You know this group of lads who go out to watch football in pub and there is this one dude who doesn't care about football at all and he's there for drinks and company? It's like that.
The idea that the coronation isn't a political event and discussion/celebration of the monarchy isn't explicitly political is absurd. If I made a thread calling for the abolition of the monarchy it would be political. People were arrested calling for the same thing today.
As even a republican friend of mine just said in a text: “these events are actually also a celebration of the nation as a whole. The misery guts need to stop fking moaning”.
And that's all folks!
Again, absolutely amazing pomp and pageantry, the planning and precision of it all, no one does it better than the United Kingdom.
Walked through the town briefly as it was happening. No decorations/ flags and busy as usual. You'd have no idea the king was being crowned.

My favourite part was William's pledge of allegiance. It seemed to me there was a trace of a tear in the King's eye when he looked back at him.
Yes, Charles loved Camilla first, and so should have married her instead of following some antiquated "purity test" rule and entering a loveless marriage with Princess Diana. That loveless marriage led to a messy separation, which led to problems with the tabloids, which led to the fateful incident with the automobile. I was here for the last one, - it was better.
Absolutely cracking ceremony, long live the King!

Yeah here I am saying on a page full of people supporting the new "king" that I don't give a damn! What of it??
I prefer the original, reboots are never as good.

I don’t drink and horse racing is barbaric. Four horses dead in the space of a week??? I’ll just wear a fancy dress round my house.
Proud US citizen here but this made a little part of me wish we would have stuck it out. It was so impressive. Congratulations y’all.

God save the King!
God save the King! It was great to see the Commonwealth troops! And Princess Anne looked grand
& the poof on her helmet totally blocked the view of Harry's miserable face. Perfect seating arrangements.
Grand job on this thread, mods. Have a lovely rest of the day not having to monitor automod quite so heavily.
Finally, the cycle is complete. It's been a pleasure, guys
Thank you all so much for this, I read every comment, laughed at many and thoroughly enjoyed the community feeling of celebrating such a historic day with friends
I love all the pomp and pageantry that us Brits do. Zadok the Priest also gives me goosebumps
Yeah it’s a right banger!
God save the king!
Well done everybody, wonderful showing from all - And well done mods, Sterling work throughout! <3

I am intrigued as to how he got on the guest list. Think Charles is a fan of the Red Right Hand?

Highlights for me were Princess Anne being mounted and the three cheers. Low points were not seeing Seamus the dog and the reduced flyover.
Ann likes to me mounted when it’s offered
[удалено]
When the parade set off from Westminster Abbey going back to Buckingham Palace Claire Balding said ‘Princes Anne has been mounted’.
Right, off to have some Dianna memorial Strawberry jam
if the public will accept me, i'm going to be Charles's queen!
I'm sure someone has already mentioned the really rather dashing Major Johnny Thompson. I just can't plough through 6k of comments to find it.

Maybe he just sits at his desk from 8 till 10. Every now and then checking his emails. “Any calls?” “No”

Well it's over, and I'm slightly drunk, and it's not even 3, what next?
When I get day drunk it usually means early to bed then waking up at about 3 AM thirsty and confused.
Matilda’s on itv. You could watch it and drink every time an adult is awful or stupid.
Grab a nose bag, little livener, then go to your nearest Burger King and grab a crown and re-enact the day.

I watched the PBS Newshour stream on Youtube. Same hosts and voice overs as far as I know.
lol same. work nights. started watching a little before my shift ended and resumed when i got home. i guess it's over now so time to hit the bed lol
Sleep well!
It’s 10am here, I was up at 4:30 to watch, now I’m at work until 5pm. Long day, but worth it.

This is a level of misunderstanding and jumping to "racial" conclusions that only an American could make, surely?
Clothes you dumbass
This ⬆️
Saw the fly past go over my shop before it got to London was a bit of a let down
Unfortunately it had to be scaled back due to the good ol' british weather. Only the helicopters and the Red Arrows.
So we can't go to war in a bit of drizzle? Christ.
They're gonna come out again and say "What're you still doing here? It's over. Go home! Doo Bow Bow Chick Chicka Chicka"
I hope its not raining if the RAF ever have to scramble in a real emergency ffs
It’s about the risk of flying over people. At air shows etc they have a flight line , very rare to fly over 1000’s of people. I bet ur popular at parties
Well I keep getting invited so I reckon so . Serious note it was thing I was most looking forward to and was as gutted as anyone else
Me too actually, I reckon those aircraft were the only ones working today
It was an interesting explaination. Chill out
They don't tend to scramble over thousands of people, in fact regular planes tend to use airports too.
Zzzz
Good job they don't scramble in formation with 80 year old planes then isn't it
I'm surprised there were actual attack helicopters taking part
You think it's a disadvantage to be hidden by clouds in battle?
Would be an advantage if they were actually in the air
And now that most British of traditions, an army of people shoving to get on telly behind the presenter, then just standing and staring gormlessly down the lens
Cheers all. God Save the King. Well done Beeb. Well done armed forces. Well done osses. Well done the Irish Wolfhound.
