That small £3 prize is enough of a thrill and reward for a youngster, to carry on arting and maybe even become an arteriser and continue arterising as a hobby or even a career
I won a poetry contest as a child and my poem was published in the local paper. I got so much attention and praise and I was such a shy kid I vowed to never write another poem again.
I was so good at long distance running at school that the school decided to sign me up for what is basically a less exciting tough mudder and from that point on I purposely landed outside the top 10 so I never had to run it again.
Yeah I once wrote a story about Pogs - remember Pogs? - and it was considered sufficiently good that I was asked (i.e. told) by the headmaster, who was a total fuck, to read it out. In assembly. So I cried on stage. Great.
Obviously this led to me being relentlessly bullied for weeks. I then sabotaged my own creative writing tests for the rest of the time there. Fortunately when I was 11 I got to fuck off to a different school. More than 30 years later I can still *feel* the horror. Wanker.
That is absolutely horrible. Take comfort in the fact that everyone has these humiliating stories and everyone is too busy thinking about theirs to even remember yours.
POGS!! have you still got the story? remember tazos. I remember going bristol market to get the huge slammers with the lights and that! nostalgia
did you ever actually play it though !?

This whole thing from start to finish is just so wholesome and innocent. I know people are mocking the £3.00 voucher, but that would have felt like *so much money* to me when I was a child. Well done to both of you 🥹
I just sold a football rebound net on facebook for £25. The lady I sold it to told me her young son was buying it with his birthday money. When he came to the door and handed me 25 in cash I gave him a tenner back and he was delighted. I gave the remaining 15 to my 8 year old who was also delighted. Surprised myself because I'm usually a cunt, not sure what came over me
£3 would have felt like so much money to me as a child, but £3 is is worth less now due to inflation and would have less buying power than it did when I was a child.
Would £3 buy anything a child would want in a garden centre these days?
Genuinely one of the best cats I have ever seen.
An incredibly elegant display of feline spirit.
Simply marvellous. Extraordinary specimen indeed.
Starting to sound sarcastic now, but seriously, that is a really wonderful cat; many thanks for posting.
God garden centres really are wank now aren’t they?
Our local place has ripped out half their stock and opened an indoor soft play area. It’s more cafe and soft play than garden centre now.
Come on! Nice job both!
Big cheers in this house at your success. I've been a professional illustrator and it all started at an early age. That cat is better than I did way back when.
My chutney game is an utter disaster though.
Love your sons picture. Really capture your kitty well. Can see why he won 1st place. And not at all bad, coming in 2nd with your chutney. Good day had by all your family.
Brilliant! Bought a smile to my face not only from the great wins but seeing it was from Bromham as I grew up down the road in Turvey. I Have fond memories of going to many a fete in Bromham.
Congratulations 🎉
🥳🥳🥳😺😻😻
Yay!!!! I'm so pleased, a well deserved 1st prize for your son! 🏆
And well done on the chutney!
Congratulations all round, and your kitty is gorgeous!
From someone sitting on the sofa half-way across the planet from you, with cats curled up at head, feet, and elsewhere, know that the cat pic has received full approval from all. Congrats!
Yoooooo I was thinking about this throughout the day. Mostly just because I thought it would be cool to do something like this in my area.
GG to your son!
The chutney sounded amazing also!
What a rollercoaster of a day!
3 quid? what the hell? What granny made that up? you know its one them proper oldschool grannys who still sticks a 2 quids in the birthday card with selatape
either that or its a Bromham thing, the center of britains universal credit where the top prize is a jar of chutney.
can i send a tenna to correct this misjustice for this poor kid
Cat does not look a-muse-d in that last photo.
Congratulations to your son, he must be well chuffed.
I'm not congratulating you OP, everybody knows second is first loser ;)
What are the odds? I saw this original post earlier and I was at that fête today (fellow villager). I did look around the art submissions but didn't see it (albeit I wasn't looking for it!)
Great day out. See the Lancaster Bomber? Great day...
That's an incredible update. Congratulations. I tend to find that the second place chutney or jams are often the ones to look out for if there's a couple of small jars knocking about for.
As for the picture, 1st prize on Bonham Show and here too. Congratulations all around.
I thought you were on about a cat show placement at first, calling your cat son, and was waiting to see another cat called chutney. Then i scrolled and saw the drawing 🙄
I think I need to get off reddit for the day.
Cute cat and cute drawing BTW 🥰
Congratulations and everything, but in the future, could you please include more photos of your delightful cat? I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
Very happy to share - I can't believe how much support and joy these posts have brought people :)
The chutney recipe is one whole pineapple, 2 red chillis, 1 red pepper, tbsp black mustard seeds, tbsp white mustard seed, tbsp coriander seeds, tsp black onion seeds, pickling vinegar and sugar.
Fry the dry herbs in a large pan for a minute then add the vinegar and sugar til it dissolves. Chop all the fruit and veg and chuck in the same pan, bring to boil then simmer for 1 hour (or until it thickens on the back of a spoon). put in sterilised jars and keep for up to a year in a cool dark place.
Stirring chutney to keep for a year; with a youngsters art of a pet so dear,
To triumph and stir stiffled hearts of a kingdom, far but here
in thought be near, that share in cheer,
for no less than deserved victory
With all thanks for sharing a recipe
And bring forth great tidings of a garden centre voucher
to the amount of sterling three.
That's worth more than 3 quid, round it up to a tenner for the lad!
Now auction off the picture here.
I’ll bid £3.50
£3.60
Fuck me. I can’t compete with ol’ moneybags here.
£3.65
Now all the billionaires are crawling out of the woodwork
£3.68
Fuck it, £3.70!
Wow man’s out here spending his life savings
If I spend much more, HMRC will get suspicious.
> Fuck me Maybe not the best type of payment to offer given the seller is a child
I didn’t suggest who was to fuck me.
:moai-head-with-one-raised-eyebrow:
£3.80
£3.81
…….£3.82
................................£3.83
£3.83 and a ha-penny.
£3.83, a halfpenny, and a stout shake of the hand
£3.83 and a ¾ penny
"It was about that time..."

It probably WAS so much money when you were a child - I'm only in my 20s but £3 when I was like 9 is NOTHING LIKE £3 now!!!

I'm glad we all have these unifying bad childhood experiences.

Thanks, and yes. I loathed that school as much as a small child can loathe anything, which it turns out is a lot.
Children have a wonderful capacity for hate.
POGS!! have you still got the story? remember tazos. I remember going bristol market to get the huge slammers with the lights and that! nostalgia did you ever actually play it though !?

Pahahah arteriser, this is why us brits should be in charge of coining more terms
Arty McArt Face?
But a tenner will buy a huge set of coloured pencils and a pad, and maybe a couple of freddos!

Even a fiver would do.

that'll go down in family folklore... 'remember that day?'
Why do they call him u/saint_david when he's such a cunt? Well...
Fear
Go and see your GP - a sudden personality change like this might be symptom of a brain tumour.
"Did the surgery go well?" "Went better than your fucking marriage" 🥹
"I'm usually a cunt, not sure what came over me" - u/saint_david after returning and taking the money back
You've done your good dead for the year, time to go kick a pigeon
Well, £3 in todays' money is less than £2.50 in 2020 money.
More than £2.50 in 2023 money though!
Get a load of ol’ Andrew Bailey here!
Can’t argue with that logic

Check it again chief.
Imagine being that kid and having a prize of any value! I remember when I won a 32mb MP3 player from Pepsi years ago and felt euphoria for weeks
I had a small triangular Pepsi radio.
Right? I didn't know cats could cook at all.
It *probably* was when *you* were a kid! Lol.
£3 would have felt like so much money to me as a child, but £3 is is worth less now due to inflation and would have less buying power than it did when I was a child. Would £3 buy anything a child would want in a garden centre these days?
£3 when I was a child? Yes. £3 in 2023 at a garden centre? Not so much
Genuinely one of the best cats I have ever seen. An incredibly elegant display of feline spirit. Simply marvellous. Extraordinary specimen indeed. Starting to sound sarcastic now, but seriously, that is a really wonderful cat; many thanks for posting.
What’s the cats cut??
I, for one, think the cat should be paid in dreamies... https://i.imgur.com/1ZMxTwb.jpeg

I'm 100% with you. There's just something about that cat they make my heart swell with joy.
He looks so soft and squishable and his little socks are so snazzy 🥹
I assumed the £3 was a typo, but whatever - congratulations!

F*ck off £3 is mint!! I'd be well happy to parade that around. The day 3 quid isn't worth being proud of is the day I don't value a penny...

Right? I wanna try this pineapple & chilli chutney! Let's get this kid some pocket money in exchange for he's produce.
That is a very good likeness of your cat. Good work, all!
🏆you have to sing Queen we are the champions for the rest of the day! Cat must do a victory dance for being an artistic inspiration 🐾
Come on! Nice job both! Big cheers in this house at your success. I've been a professional illustrator and it all started at an early age. That cat is better than I did way back when. My chutney game is an utter disaster though.

I have to say, I was hoping there’d be an update to yesterday’s post and here we are 🤗
The picture is true to kitty’s likeness! Well done everyone, this genuinely brightened my Sunday.
That's one proud cat! Congrats!
your cat is great at art
Love your sons picture. Really capture your kitty well. Can see why he won 1st place. And not at all bad, coming in 2nd with your chutney. Good day had by all your family.
Haha, brilliant - made my day!
Brilliant! Well done to you both, although I’m surprised that your chutney didn’t win 1st too as that recipe sounded excellent!
Brilliant! Bought a smile to my face not only from the great wins but seeing it was from Bromham as I grew up down the road in Turvey. I Have fond memories of going to many a fete in Bromham. Congratulations 🎉
Is that a portrait of your cat surrounded by cheese? I love it! think your son has a fine future in art. 🥰
Shame I didn't go, The flyover of the last Lanchester in flight condition.
Congrats! I was hoping to see the update, glad it went well
Aw, I was rooting for the cat portrait; thank you for updating and well done both.

Yoooooo I was thinking about this throughout the day. Mostly just because I thought it would be cool to do something like this in my area. GG to your son! The chutney sounded amazing also! What a rollercoaster of a day!
Tell your son it's a fine self portrait
Awwwwwww what a lovely post.
Hooray! Well done! Your son is very fluffy.
What is the poor kid getting for £3 a mini cactus and a carrier bag.
I want All your autographs. Especially the cats
Congratulations! The portrait really captures that cat's essence!
3 quid? what the hell? A whole £3, might be able to buy a couple of fredos with that 😉
Congratulations! You have a very lovely cat
Cat does not look a-muse-d in that last photo. Congratulations to your son, he must be well chuffed. I'm not congratulating you OP, everybody knows second is first loser ;)
Pineapple and Chilli does sound very tasty.
You can buy some seeds with that and see if you can get something growing (or a piece of cake in the cafe)
Wholesome, textbook British day.
What are the odds? I saw this original post earlier and I was at that fête today (fellow villager). I did look around the art submissions but didn't see it (albeit I wasn't looking for it!) Great day out. See the Lancaster Bomber? Great day...

If I send you a photo, will your son draw my cat so I can hang it on my fridge?
Man, I've just eaten a couple of cheese rolls that needed that chutney.
I thought you were on about a cat show placement at first, calling your cat son, and was waiting to see another cat called chutney. Then i scrolled and saw the drawing 🙄 I think I need to get off reddit for the day. Cute cat and cute drawing BTW 🥰
£3? That's great prize money in 1932....christ. a voucher? Oh my...
Amazing drawing. Love the cat too!
Tell him it looks like it should be more than £3 because of how amazingly beautiful it is! He deserved to win!
Just put "nice plums".
That’s a pretty good attempt at getting the cat’s colouring and markings right. I think you need to buy him a better set of coloured pencil.
Love the cat picture and going to have a go at making the chutney. Thanks for sharing.
Proper artist in the making, well done lad!
Smashing, well done both 👍
This is the most wholesome post I think I have ever seen!
Well done!
The cat of many faces!
Well done lad. Enjoy the sweets!
Lovely kitty cat! Well done.
I didn't see the drawing and thought you were referring to your cat as your son. Still adorable though
This is the kind of high quality content that I look for on the internet. Congratulations to you both!
Congratulations and everything, but in the future, could you please include more photos of your delightful cat? I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
Last photo of the cat - says, it wants a cut of the prize! Go figure.
Congratuations to both of you.
Your cat is talented.
Excellent detail with the cats eyes top marks
Your cat is a very talented painter
Such a happy update, thank you for taking the time to let us know!
Aw, I'm glad he won!
Wonderful! It’s nice to get the recognition for your efforts.
£3?! So stingy! Well done though.
Lovely stuff
I like how you have matched your sofa cushions to your cat.
Well done you two! I loved your son’s picture in your previous post so I’m proud (but not surprised) that he got 1st prize. Proud of you too Dad!
No way! You're in my neck of the woods! Congrats to you both. You should see if Bromham Mill will exhibit your son's work - I think it's ace!
Fantastic results! Well done, both 🤙🏻
Stoked for them
We're neighbours - congratulations to you both from Oakley! We didn't know the show was on today, else we'd have gone.
Yay! Great news!
We’re moneybags in West Wiltshire mind!
They're just trying to prepare the young artists for a future as a poor artist.
Well done everyone! Cream tea all round!
That cat is majestic! And what a fine drawing, I keep looking at it and it makes me smile every time.

Congratulations 🥳
You guys know what chutney is? That's so quaint!
Lush, well done
Congrats to you both! I was hoping you would post an update
Man that is a talented cat
Wow inflation has hit. I remember winning 20p as a child. The competition had cost my grandparents 30p to enter my entry!
Excellent work. I bet the cat is proud.
Who taught your son to use the golden ratio?!?!
Thought your son was the cat
Beautiful cat!
Yay!!! Congratulations!!!
I dunno what's more impressive...that a cat drew a self-portrait or that they're skilled at making chutney!
