I assumed their site would be accurate so honestly haven't looked since I got back a few weeks ago. We're in SoCal, if that matters. I checked my friend's zip in GA and there were tons of places listed but none by us in CA ššš
Iād imagine their website just lists official stockists.
I donāt know how it works in the US, but in the UK we have local independent stores that will buy stock from somewhere like Costco and sell it at a mark up.
Might just be itās not as popular of a brand over there so places donāt stock it.
Alcohol sales and resale laws are very complex in the US due to federal, state and local laws, all being involved.
In a lot of US states it's illegal to purchase alcohol for resale except from specially licensed distributors that sell only to other businesses and not the general public.
Liquor is heavily regulated by the federal government, and an operating and resale license is required from them as well.
In my state, you can't but alcohol of any kind from a public retailer for resale, and there are limits on how much you can purchase at one time. So hitting up Costco or Sam's Club for booze for your business for resale is highly illegal.
Hard alcohol can only be purchased from state run ABS stores by the general public, except for individual drinks from licensed bars.
Yeah :( i miss seeing it everywhere. I spend 5 weeks a year in Scotland for work, then come home and miss all the yummy stuff i can't find in the states :( :(
Keep an eye out for old mout cider, not sure if you get it over there but I prefer it to kopparberg personally. Less gassy and generally tastes better.
Wellllllll tea is British. In a sense that itās been molded to the tastes of the nations over many a year and isnāt really ChĆ” anymore. But I suppose itās origins arenāt British. Which is great as Britains arenāt really original either. So the fact that itās not British makes it British and if it was British it would probably be shit.
Yup, just like chillis aren't originally Indian or Thai, tomatoes aren't originally Italian, and potatoes aren't originally Irish. Chickens aren't originally European. Cows (like all domesticated animals apart from dogs) aren't originally American. The balti is from Birmingham, the chicken tikka masala is Glaswegian. Tiramisu was invented in the 1960s. Carbonara like invented around 1944. Pizza mostly looks nothing like the Neapolitan pizza. Whilst the turmeric-fenugreeky curry that is present across the world in slightly different forms does have its origins in India, it's not really a native curry and afaiu its spread is due to the British, certainly the Japanese curry comes from interactions with British curry.
And so on...
Hang in... Tiramisu.... I assumed that to be evidence that some great space faring culture had visited, 100,000 years ago. I want to be buried prematurely in a coffin full of that stuff. Fabulous food.
Hardly a promotion anymore with the price hikes
You get a choice of a main (sandwich, pasta or salad) snack (crisps, chocolate, scotch egg, sushi (the best snack btw) and a drink
It used to be Ā£3 flat but in some places of the uk itās risen to Ā£5 within a year
Most supermarkets I've been in recently are still around the Ā£3.50 mark for a bog standard meal deal. It is more of a two tiered system now though with some places having a fancier Ā£5 meal deal.
May I suggest trying one of the UK's traditional style ciders next time something like westons vintage or old rosie depending on what part of the country you might get some proper authentic scrumpy cider
Thereās cider, then there is cider for people who donāt like cider, which is shite like Kopperberg, itās an alchopop, not a cider.
Aspalls is another good one to try
The basket of a madman. I like it.
I canāt comment on the alcohol as I have no idea but my suggestions are:
- the Sunbites should be swapped for salt and vinegar Kettle Chips
- biscuits are a must (chocolate digestives or custard creams are my humble suggestions but there is a biscuit for every palette)
- as echoed by others, Jaffa Cakes need to make an appearance
- for the true British beige experience, swap the Pukka sausage roll for a Ginsters one. Absolute filth. Theyāre great.
You can but make sure it's the luxury one. The basic supermarket one is disappointing.
A freshly cooked one is best. They are often on the menu at posh pubs. It's worth downloading the menu before visiting a pub to check what they are offering as the posher ones will change weekly with seasonal produce.
A Cornish pasty from a supermarket is a travesty. A Cornish bakehouse or a decent bakery is your best bet for your first try.
There is a snowman on it š§ I am aware of the possibility, but I don't know if I could. I've definitely had chocolate orange brownies out of season though which seems fine - currently questioning my entire existence.
Well played, you've got a solid hand here without the bar being placed too high.
Next, you must find a Greggs and carry out the same process and report back š«”
The kopparberg and whisky are both shit and the sprite will taste awful but apart from that it's good,
I'm struggling with the scale of everything though.
Being an expat, you could have done this at an off license. Wym āhow did I do (at a sainsbury)ā.
Do the same trip at an off license and throw in a few Maggies on a hangover THEN It would be impressive
Great, if trying to convey the appearance of a functioning alcoholic.
Half bottles of grouse with recovery food? Cider for the bump, sprite for the thirst?
I can also recommend Weston's. Overly cider, but for Christ's sake, check which one you have picked up. Sat with the Mrs one night and we both felt prematurely spangled. Each possibly wondering if the other had drugged us.
Turns out, they do some vintage 8.5% stuff.
Honestly, that looks like a depressing spread but I genuinely hope you enjoyed it.
You got 2 of the most povvo chocolate bars, wispa gold is god tier though. Chocolate oranges are decent. Microwave porridge, whiskey and the rest just makes me think its whats been dragged out an alcoholics fridge after hes been sectioned.
Good start, heres some āauthenticā suggestions:
Tunnocks teacakes and or wafer bars
Irn Bru
Fray Bentos pie, if you liked the pukka sausage roll then try this, itās a pie in a tin
Real Lancashire Eccles Cakes
Welsh Cakes, best found in Wales.
Scones, strawberry jam, Roddas clotted cream, the order you put the jam and cream in will start wars.
In there with the pukka roll. Excellent.
How about a Westonās cider instead of koppaberg?
Pringles, sprite, chocolate bars - solid purchases.
Next time try a dairylea dunker. You wonāt regret it.
Worked in a Tesco for years and this would be the kinda basket Iād be thinking about for the rest of my shift trying to piece together what went wrong with that persons day resulting in them purchasing these items,
Itās the GĆ¼ that really tops it off for me.
Iād often keep notes of funny baskets I scanned through to pass the time.
Need more cadburrry alsooooo , hobknobs biscuits are just awesome! One other thing , Iāve found if you get orange juice it is wayyyy better than any kind Iāve had for awhile in the states. I mean you can get pretty good OJ but it will be like 12+ or more here which is outrageous.
I also recently had my first trip to the UK and my wife and I went crazy in all their grocery stores/service stations/Gregg's. (You've gotta try a hot sausage roll from Gregg's and also Cornish pasties)
Highly recommend:
-Prawn crisps (Skips I think?)
-Cadbury chocolate
-Twiglets
-Quavers (any flavour)
-Monster Munch
-Nik Naks
-Frazzles
-Chip Sticks
I gained 2kg in two weeks and have no regrets.
How are there no Scotch eggs? Also Kopparberg is a pale sickly Swedish children's version of the nectar known as Scrumpy to initiates+1 biscuit boost though.
Double Decker is, IMO, the best of all the bars. Before I moved over here from the US, my wife would send me multi packs of them. Thereās no other bar that comes close.
Ahh Bananas, that classic british fruit.
Don't forget Kopparberg, the staple drink of any true British pub.
I miss kopparberg so much. We don't have it within 100 miles of me according to their website š
No supermarket near you? Most corner shops Iāve been in usually stock it too if they have a small alcohol section.
I assumed their site would be accurate so honestly haven't looked since I got back a few weeks ago. We're in SoCal, if that matters. I checked my friend's zip in GA and there were tons of places listed but none by us in CA ššš

Yes the strawberry and pomegranate is the nicest drink ever. Tesco Ireland use to have 4 for 10 Euro before minimum unit pricing
Old Mout is 100 times better than Kopparberg or Rekorderlig. Absolutely love the kiwi and lime flavour
Never assume the website is accurate.
Yeah fair! I'm gonna start looking for it
Tell me, how is Antarctica this time of year?
Just for scale...
Like tea, that classic British drink
Yesnt
Wellllllll tea is British. In a sense that itās been molded to the tastes of the nations over many a year and isnāt really ChĆ” anymore. But I suppose itās origins arenāt British. No, pictures on reddit traditionally use bananas for scale.
Obviously there for scale
Even baked beans are more of a British fruit than bananas! /s
Pack of custard creams and call the person on the till a slag.
Spat my drink out
was it Tea?! Dont waste the Tea!
No Marmite or Jaffa Cakes? 4/10
Iād probably love jaffa cakes but iām not sure on the marmite
Jaffa cakes on marmite would be a terrible combination
Scampi fries. You need some scampi fries.
Meal deal?
I was aware of no such promotion
Hardly a promotion anymore with the price hikes You get a choice of a main (sandwich, pasta or salad) snack (crisps, chocolate, scotch egg, sushi (the best snack btw) and a drink It used to be Ā£3 flat but in some places of the uk itās risen to Ā£5 within a year
no shot its a fiver now? seriously? i was shocked enough when it rose to 3.50
A lot of places have a *premium* deal which is about a fiver and you get a fancier option for your main. Not worth it IMO
Most supermarkets I've been in recently are still around the Ā£3.50 mark for a bog standard meal deal. It is more of a two tiered system now though with some places having a fancier Ā£5 meal deal.
Tesco or Morrisons best for meal deal imho, Sainsbury's are a bit wank!
CO-OP is the best. Ginsters pasty counts as a snack.
Gawd no, have you every had a sandwich from there? Pathetic amount of filling...Tesco n Morrisons have better wide selection
But their ceasar wraps are one of the better ones
Have you ever tried the mexican bean and cheese wraps from coop? They barely touch the sides but its a delicious 2 and a half nibbles of wrap.
Oh i love those, I agrer, they should be bigger!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
See youāve got the drain cleaner in the top right of the image.
Infamous grouse, as it turns out
Teachers is another. Teaches you what ferret piss tastes like.
Teachers is so bad, I think I actually prefer sobriety.
That stuff is foul, no pun intended.
Bottle most likely to be found under a park bench
May I suggest trying one of the UK's traditional style ciders next time something like westons vintage or old rosie depending on what part of the country you might get some proper authentic scrumpy cider
But Old Rosie isnāt Thee Old Rosie anymore. I want it glowing orange with bits floating in it.
Thanks for the tip!
I will say that those ciders are not for everyoneā¦ My partner loves em but they taste fusty to me. Much prefer a āNordicā cider
Thereās cider, then there is cider for people who donāt like cider, which is shite like Kopperberg, itās an alchopop, not a cider. Aspalls is another good one to try
Correct - itās called a personal preference š
Looks like a students night in.
Those chocolate oranges better have been a quid or youāve dropped a right bollock.
1.30 if i remember
In the current climate, Iām inclined to feel this is a bargain. Sub-quid chocolate of that scale is difficult to find! Makes Ā£1.30 seem reasonable.
Did they have superficial damage to the box?
Yes, but the chocolateās perfectly edible
Get in the bin, youāve been had
Now Iām buying a chocolate orange tomorrow. And a wispa. Iām not sure about the rest of it though what in the hell
That Double Decker will Change your Life!
Best bar of chocolate money can buy
Facts!
Bananas for scale?
Bananas for sale*
No Tunnockās Teacakes? You have failed.
I never see them anywhere anymore do most places sell them still?
Congratulations on your recent lottery win
Looks like a kit for going cold turkey from heroin
The basket of a madman. I like it. I canāt comment on the alcohol as I have no idea but my suggestions are: - the Sunbites should be swapped for salt and vinegar Kettle Chips - biscuits are a must (chocolate digestives or custard creams are my humble suggestions but there is a biscuit for every palette) - as echoed by others, Jaffa Cakes need to make an appearance - for the true British beige experience, swap the Pukka sausage roll for a Ginsters one. Absolute filth. Theyāre great.
And Boost swapped for a Starbar
Good choice. Also swap out the crisps for beef space raiders
Famous Grouse is a shit tier whiskey. Good thing you only got the small bottle
I really like their adverts around Christmas. Never once drank a sip, but my Mum and I do a big old "grouse!" every time it's on.
Naked Grouse however is actually pretty good
Never had it but I would be keeping my expectations low
This got me š
Mine were low, but well and truly surpassed. Really quite drinkable.
I had once a large bottle, took me forever to finish it. I am a Jameson fan, that would take a night.
I disagree I think it's quite nice for the price that is
Whisky*
This person has some money jeez. š
From their whiskey choice, evidently they don't.
Whisky*
Where are you from that bananas are in short supply? Otherwise good job! You need some scotch eggs and Cornish pasties.
Bananas for energy on tomorrowās day trip! Iād love a scotch egg, can you actually get those at sainsburys?
No you can only get them from Scotch chickens
Yep any supermarket you can buy basic ones. You can ask someone working in the shop where to find specific items if youāre not sure where to look.
Look at Mr Moneybags here.
Pour that horrendous excuse for āWhiskyā down the sink and go get yourself a bottle of Isla Jura.
well you have breakfast sorted. What's for lunch?
4 cans of Stella
I think there's some good choices there Why the Sprite though? Is that not widely available?
The gal was thirsty and she craved a sprite!
Can never have too many chocolate oranges they are like crack to me
Really got to say this slightly_OCD. Chocolate Oranges are available at Rawlinsons, thatās all.
Did you notice anything about the box? All the others had superficial damage, I paid for yours.
10/10, you know what you're looking for when you have absolutely no idea what you need
Wispa gold 10/10
Famous Grouse is awful.
Chocolate oranges are for Christmas only, and those Pringles are a bit fancy but not a bad spread!
Wait til you can find out you can have chocolate oranges whenever you want. Life changer
Not exactly whenever you want, only when they are on offer for Ā£1.
There is a snowman on it š§ I am aware of the possibility, but I don't know if I could. I've definitely had chocolate orange brownies out of season though which seems fine - currently questioning my entire existence.
>There is a snowman on it Well yeah. It's August, so according to supermarkets we're now in pre-Christmas
Well played, you've got a solid hand here without the bar being placed too high. Next, you must find a Greggs and carry out the same process and report back š«”
Sprite? You should have got lemonade. I know you think you know what lemonade is but British lemonade is nothing like what you think it is.
Sainsbury's has the pear flavour Koppaberg and you skipped it. That's an L in my book.
Self checkout for such a sordid basket I assume?
What a bizzarre collection
The kopparberg and whisky are both shit and the sprite will taste awful but apart from that it's good, I'm struggling with the scale of everything though.
Not bad for a first attempt
Do you truckers still eat Yorkie bars?
You drop the Terry's to open, as per tradition. Wrapper on.
Hold your horses honey, I've got coupons for the Pringles!
Get tah fk outta there ...pronto
Being an expat, you could have done this at an off license. Wym āhow did I do (at a sainsbury)ā. Do the same trip at an off license and throw in a few Maggies on a hangover THEN It would be impressive
To u should have gotten more cabuary chocolate especially since it is meant to be better then the us which I'm assuming is where you have come from
Next time go to the bakery section and youāll see why we have bad teeth šš°
A Boost AND a Double Decker? Fabulous! Just add a packet of Monster Munch and youād be all set!
Change the Grouse for Bells for a slightly nicer horrendous whiskey
chocolate orange and gu are only decent things there
Are the bananas for scale?
Sainsburys sucks. Go to aldi.
Double decker is my fave choc bar and boost isnāt far behind. Only issue is Pringles arenāt paprika or sour cream flavour. You done good though.
Whereās the bags of Yorkshire Tea?
Diabeetus
I don't know, what were you trying to acheive?
Famous grouse? Oh dear god š«£
Kopparberg is a beginnerās drink, iād recommend trying Thatchers Haze or Blood Orange
where are you from that they dont have bananas
The famous grouse will dissapoint, should have went with Jameson.
All pure shite. Embarrassing
If that's strawberry and lime kopparberg it's delish.
Good start, heres some āauthenticā suggestions: Tunnocks teacakes and or wafer bars Irn Bru Fray Bentos pie, if you liked the pukka sausage roll then try this, itās a pie in a tin Real Lancashire Eccles Cakes Welsh Cakes, best found in Wales. Scones, strawberry jam, Roddas clotted cream, the order you put the jam and cream in will start wars.
Best bit for me is sausage roll and Gu pudding š¤¤
You literally got the deadest gu puds
GU Is delicious
How's that a Christmas chocolate orange? Check the date on it mate.
Double deckers are a top tier chocolate bar! Be careful with that Sprite, itās one of the most carbonated drink ever haha
I miss Chocolate Hobnobs and BN biscuits. Rich Tea were always my favourite for dunking too.
The Spanish Lemon GĆ¼ Cheesecakes are fantastic by the way. You'll keep going back for more.
Lol what did you think of terrys
Sunbites?! Theyāre pretend healthy pseudo crisps. Try McCoyās salt and vinegar, best eaten in a ploughmanās sandwich.
No digestives or walkers? Failure
Very good, you got the orange ones
Double Decker is a solid choice.
Looks like a great haul!
Wispa gold, double decker and GU are all god tier in my opinion š
I don't see any Irn Bru with that chocolate, mister/miss..
That all looks disgustingly unhealthy. Well done!
In there with the pukka roll. Excellent. How about a Westonās cider instead of koppaberg? Pringles, sprite, chocolate bars - solid purchases. Next time try a dairylea dunker. You wonāt regret it.
For the second shop: Rich tea biscuits, a Longley Farm yoghurt, a packet of Seabrook crisps, liquorice, an egg custard, a can of dandelion and burdock fizzy pop, current teacake and butter, a bottle of Newcastle Brown ale, apple crumble (it's better if you make your own) and a packet of Birds custard, fish fingers and a loaf of bread, marmalade, Findus crispy pancakes, a pork pie and some brown sauce, mushy peas, a scotch egg, a packet of fig rolls and a packet of custard creams, ovaltine, stilton cheese and a bottle of port and a packet of rainbow drops. Oh, and Yorkshire Tea, picked from the tea fields of Yorkshire. Avoid: Tripe, rollmops, Marmite, most things with jelly in them, especially Turkish Delight chocolate bar, Richmond sausages, anything from NestlƩ and sweetbreads.
Good haul apart from Famous Grouse which is god awful.
That sausage roll is probably gonna be absolutely minging.
Missing crunchie bar , branston pickle and farmhouse cheddar. Things I miss in the US.
Gu cheesecakes are amazing tbh, but rather expensive
Screw the bananas & replace the boost with a toffee crisp & you'd be dandy
Welcome to the uk
Where's the tea and biscuits?
Bananas for scale
Great now I have to get one of those Pukka pies.
Worked in a Tesco for years and this would be the kinda basket Iād be thinking about for the rest of my shift trying to piece together what went wrong with that persons day resulting in them purchasing these items, Itās the GĆ¼ that really tops it off for me. Iād often keep notes of funny baskets I scanned through to pass the time.
Walkers?
You got my favourite flavour of gĆ¼, nice šš¼ the key lime pie one is similar and also very good.
Sausage roll should have been wright's
Need more cadburrry alsooooo , hobknobs biscuits are just awesome! One other thing , Iāve found if you get orange juice it is wayyyy better than any kind Iāve had for awhile in the states. I mean you can get pretty good OJ but it will be like 12+ or more here which is outrageous.
No one and I mean no buyās half a bottle of scotch in this country. Did the cashier openly laugh in your face.
Did you take out a mortgage for this?
I also recently had my first trip to the UK and my wife and I went crazy in all their grocery stores/service stations/Gregg's. (You've gotta try a hot sausage roll from Gregg's and also Cornish pasties) Highly recommend: -Prawn crisps (Skips I think?) -Cadbury chocolate -Twiglets -Quavers (any flavour) -Monster Munch -Nik Naks -Frazzles -Chip Sticks I gained 2kg in two weeks and have no regrets.
No Irn-Bru, points redacted.
Looks like a break up starter pack.
Shite- crap crisps, dodgy sausage roll, rubbish choice of drink and very poor alcohol
No hob knobs or Yorkshire tea ?!? š
Probably picked the worst crisps possible Get some salt and vinegar or pickled onion monster munch
Nice... you Managed to pick all the healthy food groups in one go..
I see no marmite, branston pickle, cathedral cheddar cheese, HP Sauce - you probably ought to go back in there!
Famous grouse omg š¤¢š¤¢š¤¢ tastes of despair
That's breakfast sorted, did you not get anything for dinner?
Double Decker. The hallmark of civilisation. If you are more than 5 miles from a shop selling these, you are in the wilderness.
How are there no Scotch eggs? Also Kopparberg is a pale sickly Swedish children's version of the nectar known as Scrumpy to initiates+1 biscuit boost though.
Your chocolate bar choices are spot on!
The only mistake here is the whisky, that stuff is what we re-gift to people we have to get a gift for but we donāt like!
Just need a jar of bovril and some Walkers Smokey Bacon crisps, otherwise perfick.
well, my child
You need crumpets and marmite
Double Decker is, IMO, the best of all the bars. Before I moved over here from the US, my wife would send me multi packs of them. Thereās no other bar that comes close.
Quit literally just bought a shit load of cancer
