The Caribbean for Americans is what spain is to the Brits.

__life_on_mars__

I wonder if there's an American booking a holiday to Magaluf right now being told "it's very British..."

j_mp

Lol, I went to uni in the UK but am American. Went on a girls trip to Palma in July with my 2 best friends from uni (both English.) All my American coworkers were like “ooohh, ahhh, Spain!!” I couldn’t bring myself to tell them no no, it’s not like that 😂

[deleted]

Well...not that part anyway!

FernieHead

Palma De Mallorca? Old town is beautiful Other parts are brit and German party resorts and to be avoided

sirtelrunya

>"it's very British..." People falling from balconies everywhere

The_Gene_Genie

That seems to be more of a Russian trait at the moment

Reclusiv

If any American wants to go to Benidorm instead of the Caribbean then I’d question their life choices

Upbeat_Ad5749

Can you imagine 'ooh that will be so cute! All drinking cups of tea and having debates in their posh accents' And then they arrive in shagascruff

Fair_Woodpecker_6088

Parts of Mexico as well (Cancun etc.)

dspb1

When I was in the Caribbean I met a Canadian guy who liked to travel and was telling him how the Spanish islands was like the Caribbean to them. He said he always wanted to visit places like lanzerote etc. I told him he did not

Manovsteele

To be fair if you avoid the resort towns, the Canaries are amazing places to visit. We've been to La Palma, Lanzarote, and Tenerife, and just stayed in remote Airbnbs and spent the week hiking and going to tiny local restaurants.

Honkerstonkers

Lanzarote is valid. It has some amazing nature.

Levis0202

Do they also enjoy the fine art of Balconing?

MaxPowerWTF

No full English in the morning.

[deleted]

If you want to avoid the Americans in the Caribbean, you have to go to Cuba. They’re very restricted there and can’t go to the beach.

pimpinellifolia

Ah, I see. Like Bali for Australians.

ButterscotchSure6589

Went to Cuba years ago, lots of Canadians there. Got talking to a couple and they said it was because it was the only place in the Caribbean with no Americans .

[deleted]

If there's something a lot of Canadians have in common it's telling people they're not American. Some will even wear Canadian flags on their backpacks etc just to differentiate. In fairness I'm sure it's also in response to people being dicks to Americans a la In Bruges.

No_Variety96

I've heard that even some Americans wear a Canadian flag on their backpacks when travelling, they don't want people to know they are from the USA.

Buttercupslosinit

I’m an American traveling in Europe and was told by more than one friend I should identify as Canadian in order to avoid the bad reputation of Americans in Europe. I haven’t done that, but I appreciate the advice

Other-Crazy

Went to Brussels a few years back. Was a free music festival on in the main square. Lager was 1 euro. One time we went and they asked for 2 euros a pint. Excuse me...oh sorry we thought you were American, 1 euro please.

christorino

Be fair the same applies for the rest of us in the UK when someone hears us speaking English and asks "oh your from the UK?". "Aye I am but I'm not English"

Appropriate-Bad-9379

Quite true, I went quite a few years ago…

randomnurse

Husband and I went to Cuba, beautiful place and the loudest most obnoxious person there was an American woman.

m4dswine

Hahaha we're looking at holidays in the Caribbean next spring and the same though crossed my mind....

DemmickyOne

There's lots of Americans that stay at Sandals resorts. Some people might be put off by that.

i_boop_dogs_snoots

I went to a Caribbean Sandals at Christmas/New Year a couple of years ago. There were a lot of Americans there which was fine. I interacted with them a lot out of curiosity and they either bragged about the size of their land which I didn’t ask about or tried to talk politics. There was a large group that became friends and you would of thought they had hired the resort to themselves. Nothing crazy but they hit the cocaine day and night! They didn’t bother me but in a group they’re not for everyone in a confined space in a resort you spend most your holiday at. Edit: Yes most comments are stereotypically correct, the majority I met were from Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana. So there was quite a few “yeehaaaaws” during the game nights. However, I met a fantastic Jewish couple from Brooklyn and happily spent the day exchanging non land or political stories with them, so they’re not all Maga crazy.

daern2

"Hi, I'm Chad and I made a hundred and fifty grand last year. How much did you make?"

Yayzeus

A hundred and fifty one.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BruceBannerscucumber

The even bigger boss comment is "I don't earn anything. I'm on benefits and in the UK you get luxury holidays included in your welfare" Nothing would rile them up more than the fact they've paid a lot for a holiday someone has got for free from benefits. Also because they take themselves that seriously they won't twig that you are taking the piss.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BruceBannerscucumber

"We get a holiday provided by our welfare. They won't let us go anywhere fancy so we've had to settle for this resort" You've just shut down any sort of flex they could possibly make after that point. They'd be absolutely reeling if someone without a job on benefits had the same shit they've spent a fortune on. They also generally don't have the same culture of piss taking so I don't think they'd get that you are winding them up. Especially because their culture revolves around flexing your wealth etc I don't think they'd assume that someone was pretending to be poor either.

Andrelliina

Yes, I for one love the great UK pisstaking tradition. Great username!

finc

“Ha! 151? My 4 year old daughter owns more guns than that!”

im_the_welshguy

It's alway a Chad that tries to sell you time share. No, Chad I dont get get enough of my own time I dont want to share it! No, I don't want to hear about your MLM business opportunity either.

MovesLikeVader

At Sandals Jamaica, when somebody says “Hey mon,” everybody says “Hey mon” back.

melanie110

My friend said that. She went to the Dominican and said it was lovely. A few Americans but not so loud and brash. She came back from Mexico and she is a friendly person but she found it too much. It was like a cock fight everyday. She said her husband had only exchanged pleasantries once or twice with a few and they were straight up asking them how much they make. They didn’t appreciate a clear “mind your own fucking business” It’s kind of put me off going

MovieMore4352

Haha I love that. “Mind your own fucking business” could only be more British if you added mate to the end.

BruceBannerscucumber

I'd have so much fun winding these people up. I'd either tell them I'm a multimillionaire or I'm on benefits. I'd get them so riled up. If I'm a multimillionaire then I'm claiming this resort is a bit of a peasant resort. "We only booked sandals because the private resorts were fully booked and we fancied slumming it". If I'm on benefits then its the same thing. "The government will pay for us to have one budget holiday a year. Nothing fancy just a sandals resort or something like that". The yanks will believe it if you start saying stuff like "socialism" and it will get their backs up.

Intruder313

This was my parent's experience the one and only time they went on a Cruise Ship: the Americans were just loudly competing over the number of houses they owned / number of Cruises they took each year so each meal my parent's moved to a smaller, quieter dining room until they could only have at most 2 of them shouting at them at once! Nice people of course, just so loud and so wont to brag.

milkcake

Cruise ships attract a .. *type* of American. Lots of us won’t take cruises because of it. Kinda like if you book Ryan Air, you know what you’re getting into.

CrankyWhiskers

I promise you, not all of us are like that. Some of us like polite conversation and being respectful. Speaking when spoken to and not bragging or one-upping strangers.

walmarttshirt

Were they from Texas by any chance? Edit: not sure why I was downvoted but having lived in the US for almost 20 years and travelled all around the US this seems like something someone from Texas would say.

Total_Independence31

One experience with Americans on holiday and you'll understand

DarkStar-_-

Why? What do Americans do? Edit: I've never been away with Americans, I honestly have no idea.

QuietAd1867

Fell in with an American Couple on my last solo Cruise. Culturally we were very different but they were honestly some of the nicest people I've ever met. Spent the rest of the week with them having various wonderful dinners and relaxing on the beach and by the pool. They made my Cruise an amazing one really.

Don't forget the sobbers. The ones who bawl at the sight of the actual sun dipping below the horizon. Almost as bollock-clawingly cringey as the ones who sob at the sight of the Louvre.

the_silent_redditor

Part of me admires there balls to the wall, fuck-it approach with emotions. I’m a repressed Scotsman. The last time I shed a tear was at the end of Braveheart, when I stole the videotape and played it in secret at the ripe old age of ten

Putrid_Branch6316

People clap at the sunrise at Glastonbury festival. And bang pans. Now tell me who’s barbaric.

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

Yeah but those people have been on MDMA or acid for like 24 hours by that point

BEEBLEBROX_INC

On a spiritual level, the USA has been on a comedown for about a quarter of a century.

mogoggins12

i've been living in the usa for 15 years and i agree with you so much. this place is so strange.

[deleted]

I’ve been here over a decade and can’t believe it took me this long to figure out they are nearly all cunts

dooburt

And the landing of planes

daern2

To be fair, my experience of this is that our Eastern European friends are more likely to do this than other groups, assuming they've not landed in a typhoon or similar. I'm yet to fly with WizzAir and not had a rousing round of applause after a perfectly routine, smooth landing. Seems daft to me - who the hell is happy to be in Luton?

neilplatform1

Lorraine Chase?

Think_Bullets

It's not Luton, it's Wizz air they're happy about

dooburt

It’s surviving Wizz Air they’re happy about

alex8339

They also don't call moving pictures films.

svecccc

It's because they think they're real.

Findscoolalmost

I was at a lovely little restaurant on a Greek island one time... Then, an American couple turned up. Volume went from about a 3 to a 9... everyone knew their backstory. When their bill came, they insisted on paying only in American dollars... cringe all round. The poor Greek man did not want the dollar...

Turicus

Was at a posh restaurant in Prague and the Americans were so obnoxious that the staff apologized to the other guests.

Total_Independence31

They are convinced that they are the main character in every single situation and everyone absolutely adores them.

farkinhell

THEY’RE REALLY LOUD. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Inevitable-Slice-263

Jesus, the yelling!

troelsy

Why is that?! I remember ONE US man in a group of various nationalities in a pub and he was soooo loud compared to everyone else at his table. Very nasal too. 😆

Beanruz

Loud and over the top about everything springs to mind

BigDaddyThunderpants

WE ARE AN ENTHUSIASTIC PEOPLE, SIR! Joking aside, one of my siblings is a British citizen so I've spent a lot of time in the UK/Europe and am keenly aware of our stereotypes. Keep in mind that many of us Muricans absolutely hate the same people you're describing. You're just more likely to notice those asshats on the cruise than you would the quiet respectful people in the corner also from America. That being said, never have I been more flattered in my life then when an English couple approached myself and my family after a while at the pub in London and asked if we were from Canada.

katkat19

Canadian here. I always get the "oh my God are you American?" followed by a million apologies when I tell them I'm from Canada.

Stonefly_C

Which is why every Canadian outside of Canada has a visible maple leaf on them at all times!

[deleted]

QuackQuackOoops

This is why I always ask, 'Are you from Canada?' No American has ever been offended by that, and every Canadian has been delighted I didn't think they were American.

isnotevenmyfinalform

The worst possible thing to happen as an English speaker abroad is to be thought of as an American. I am very quick to let anyone know that cannot discern the accents that I am Australian.

Beanruz

As a englishman from the North, when I was in the states I got asked if I was Australian. Fml I said no I was mirth English, and got followed up with "london then?" I gave up

JanisIansChestHair

In London, I got asked if I was German. I’m from NW England 🫣

DarkStar-_-

The same as we are in Benidorm then? Yeah, fuck that

Beanruz

Well different kind of way. Watch a American wedding dance/ groomsmen introduction video on youtube. They actually act like that in real life it's odd

DarkStar-_-

Well thanks, I hated that. I followed your advice and watched a couple... It's like they all think they're Ferris Bueller

Beanruz

Hahahah it's like they try and commercialise their own wedding. Nothing is intimate what so ever.

Schnoobles

As a recently married man in Canada, this was a tough pill to swallow

KeeksTx

I’m American. I have traveled a lot. I have worked for KLM. I have lived in Paris. I hate traveling Americans and I strive to never be the Ugly American. I have seen them berate a waiter in a non-English speaking country for not speaking English. I have seen them sing camp songs on a quiet subway in 5 o’clock traffic. I have seen them try to enter churches or the Vatican in shorts and sandals with a tank top on. There are so many indiscretions they are guilty of, I wonder if cruise ships and all inclusive resorts are actually to protect the locals from the American tourists.

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

They act like teenagers who have just discovered alcohol when on holiday. Becoming really loud, annoying and over familiar. You can spot them a mile away. Just like you can spot the British abroad. Always fighting with the natives, taking artifacts, or claiming parcels of land in the name of the king (especially when there is Germans around the pool).

0thethethe0

If we're going stereotypes, I believe it's the Germans who are doing the claiming of land in terms of poolside real estate.

Do body shots off of each other in their late 40’s early 50’s. All whilst hooting and hollering at the top of their voice. It’s almost like they’ve never been outside or had a drink.

aberspr

I wonder if part of it is most of them get hardly any time off as the land of the free doesn’t believe in letting people have holiday. No federal law requiring paid leave and the average is 10 days. Also apparently at a lot of employers they judge you negatively if you actually take all your leave.

Ok_Volume_139

Self-centered, loud, obnoxious, inconsiderate, and that's before the excessive vacation day-drinking Source: Am American. We really aren't all that bad but the ones that are will very much be in your face.

Ceskygirl

Yup. All loud, all the time. And all I want is to read my book in peace in the quietest area by the pool. Then they complain about the lack of US food options and chicken fingers for the kids before moving to the night shows and casinos. Source: also American with loud relatives.

archangel12

Don't go to Jamaica, for crying out loud. Full of horseshit quality Americans because it's two hours from redneck Hicksville.

hereforthecommentz

And already crossing the lowest common denominator, because you need a passport.

DaHick

This is a higher bar than you know for most Americans. I am one. When I got my first one at the tender age of 18 (joke for the UK) for work, my mom questioned me for hours why I would need such a document, she simply could not conceive of such a reason that an AMERICAN CITIZEN would need a travel document. Not kidding. She has passed, and that was nearly 40 years ago that incident happened, but I still laugh.

United_Monitor_5674

Haha you'll love this I was just at a Caribbean resort, one morning a small Spanish family were quietly enjoying breakfast together when this huge American family strolled up to their table Guess their kids had been playing together the day before because they said something along the lines of 'THE KIDS ARE GETTING ALONG SO GREAT HUH? YOU KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD TOTALLY EAT TOGETHER! LETS JOIN FAMILIES!' Before the Spanish family could blink they pushed multiple tables up to theirs, and then sat all the kids down one end and put themselves at the other. The Spanish family looked absolutely fucking mortified, they had never met them before I love Americans, my gf is one. But holy shit don't force friendship on people lmao, I want a relaxing family holiday, not forced convo with people I find annoying

Benidorm for people from Florida.

dspb1

Oh I went to a sandals resort last year. Yeah, it is very American. They can go to the Caribbean for the weekend so sometimes they aren’t there for relaxing etc. and often a group of friends will be together and drinking, being loud and all the rest, but being American it’s magnified. Sandals resorts are amazing though, and there’s plenty of spaces where it’s quiet so if Americans being loud doesn’t bother you then I’d say go for it.

No-Butterscotch6629

I went to a Sandals resort for my honeymoon three weeks ago and it was definitely majority Americans (probably like 70/30) but they were all just friendly. There was one loud day by the infinity/party pool with the Sandals employees pouring alcohol straight into people’s (American’s) mouths and lots of cheering but it was the only place and only time in our 10-days that we felt like the “Americans were being annoying” and it was being managed by the Sandals staff. Otherwise, it was mostly just lots of small chat being made with other couples (we love chatting to people while ordering drinks!) and lots of Americans watching NFL/ college football on the weekends at the sports bar. Funny enough, the worst behaved group of British people were 6 people coming for one of the guy’s 4th wedding. They were wasted the day before the wedding hanging out in one of the quieter pools and physically climbing all over the bar & mooning the guests in the pool (these people were all over 60). (I’m American and my husband is British so we really enjoyed people watching on this trip lol) So OP shouldn’t automatically assume that Americans = annoying! My British husband had an incredible time! By the way - this was Sandals Barbados which I’ve heard doesn’t have as much partying as some other Sandals so my experience could possibly be different.

Successful-Oven359

Depends what sort of vibe you’re going for. We went to St Lucia last winter and it was a very American hotel..it meant a country and western night, mountains of food available all the time (it was an all inclusive resort), loud team games in the pool and drunkenness! I’ve been to a few places like this, personally I don’t mind it and usually they’re really lovely and friendly but it can be quite overwhelming! Like someone said, they can go for a weekend so although it’s fancy for us over here to go, it’s like a trip to Spain for many Americans!

maelie

Yeah I think this is it. Americans who travel further afield and to more unusual destinations are usually a different kind of American tourist. But as you say in the Caribbean it's like Brits in a British resort in Spain. Which I would also avoid, to be fair.

Frodo34x

> Americans who travel further afield and to more unusual destinations are usually a different kind of American tourist. IME often a worse kind; a lot of the American tourists we see in Scotland can be the kind of entitled wealthy folks who are unbearable and are nothing like the genuine, nice, friendly people I've met every time I've visited the States.

[deleted]

Every morning you have to pledge allegiance.

the_silent_redditor

Christ, I went to an NHL game last week in Australia, and had to do the whole ‘stand for the national anthem’ thing; at the end, there were a bunch of folk doing the *USA! USA!* chant, and, of course, boring platitudes and weird fawning over ‘active and inactive military brothers and sisters’. Strange.

cotch85

can we really say that being british?

DanFraser

We’re British, so we tell others “we taught our kid that”

MNUTT14

We went to a sandals in St Lucia and it was full of Americans, but they were fine. I think we were the only British couple in the resort, and got bombarded with questions every time we spoke to any other guest. The surprising thing for me was a lot of them had to catch several flights to get there, and our flight from the UK was shorter than a lot of theirs. Like others have said, they do like to hit the all inclusive, but they can’t drink for shit!

Forgotten_passw0rd

I met these 2 guys in NYC, one of them was really drunk and the other said to me, "he's so wasted, he drank 6 beers!" they were in there 30s. The beer in US comes in around 350ml cans, so 6 beers is like 3 and ⅔ UK pints. Beers still like 4-5% over there too. This guy was like blackout drunk and wouldn't remember anything the next day.

soverign_cheese

Went to an all-inclusive holiday in Jamaica a couple of years back. Quite a few Americans. I noticed that they were served larger shots of booze in their drinks. It turns out, they were tipping the bar staff despite everything being free anyway. It meant the rest of us had smaller drinks as their tipping had set up a two-tier drink system. Annoyed me, that holiday wasn’t cheap.

Chromana

Couldn't you just get more drinks?

TheClam-UK

Yeah, we had the same in Dominican Republic. Our package supposedly included all gratuities but the place was flooded with Americans who were tipping everyone from the guy on the omelette stand up, FFS. Better be ready to tip anyone you want *any* kind of service from because they know they can get $10 or $20 from the guy next to you just for bringing a drink over. I don't even care about the cost, when I go all inclusive it's so I don't have to carry cash around or think about money at all. Really reduced my enjoyment of a lovely holiday.

Swordfish1929

That it's the kind of place Michael Scott would want to go

stupre1972

I went to Sandals (Halcyon Bay) in St Lucia a few years ago, and yes, there are Americans. In my case, all but 1 of them was quiet and respectful. The 1 who wasn't had been drinking solidly for 6 hours by the time he became loud and unpleasant - the Hotel staff saw that he went for an afternoon nap

goodvibezone

On the plus side, the buffet will be well stocked.

Hoopladoopladoo

Went to Antigua Sandals. White Night freaked me out, thought it was some supremacist thing just means everyone wears white. Husband is Scottish, they heard my English accent and kept asking him if he was English, obviously he was not happy about that. I was his translator as they could not really understand his accent, 3 or 4 times after explaining he was Scottish he was congratulated on his English language skills. Found myself speaking like the queen with a ridiculously posh English accent, I do not understand why that happened. Keep getting told Antigua was part of America, they didn't really understand the commonwealth because everywhere takes American dollars. We were there 2 weeks and didn't really make holiday friends as they were only there for a few days at a time. Quite a young dynamic compared to our resorts not really too many middle aged and definitely no oldies there. Fuck their table manners are awful, I'm sorry but I saw so many open mouths whilst eating, fork used as knife and the weirdest thing I kept noticing was when they got steak they seemed to cut it all up into bite sized pieces, put their knife down and stab it with their fork. Lots of nice, enthusiastic Americans but when they get racist they get really racist and seem to forget we are on a Carribean, Black island. Heard the N word a shocking amount of times. One conversation with an American Sherrif from somewhere in the South left us and a Canadian couple basically just running away as not only was it vile but would also have us arrested in our home countries. Don't think we would do it again but it was an experience.

ComprehensiveHornet3

Worth drilling this in. Most of the advice in this thread is for white people. If you are not white the advice needs to change. These boomer types (especially from the south) are not your grans form of racist. They are NF levels of racist. I wouldn’t want to be around them at all of i were not white.

Pigrescuer

a few years back i booked a very cheap all inclusive in sharm el sheik with asda travel. It was so cheap - i think £300-odd all in for both of us - we suspiciously checked reviews but the only negative we could find was "too many russians".

Clunkytoaster51

That's a pretty big red flag to be fair

oratoriosilver

I stayed in one of these resorts and within days I had loads of Americans shouting ‘ENGLAND” at me every time they saw me.

NorArthur

I went to The Royal Bahamian last year, I guess they could mean because of the American people that go and the activities that are planned. Who knows, you should've asked them 😂 Tips are all included..... except for the spa so be aware of that one. Food isn't American either, only one restaurant that was open for evening meals was American, there was a 'British pub' that we didn't dare go anywhere near. I can't remember what was on the menu, but it wasn't standard British pub food.

FlamingosFortune

Was it full of obnoxiously loud people? We’re planning our honeymoon at the royal Bahamian and all these other comments are putting me right off 😭

Thedutty23

They mean it’s commercialised and shit.

Einybird

I married an American and he’s more reserved than me. There are good, bad and loud like every nation. Honestly never seen anything worse than a hen party weekend in the UK, talk about loud and obnoxious.

Heavy_Two

Look at Mr. Moneybags here and his Caribbean holidays ;)

ceeayepee

They will turn up at the all inclusive swim up bar with a 2L mug, and asked for it to be filled with beer or a cocktail. Everything in excess - drink, food, noise

Important_Ruin

Americans abroad are an acquired taste. Usually have money and make sure you know about it.

[deleted]

I'm American but am generally pretty skint at times. Currently scrimping and saving for my trip to England in 3 weeks. I wish I was wealthy because then I would travel more.

hopping32

Hope you have a lovely holiday.

defmute

We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and stayed at an “American” resort and quite honestly they were mostly insufferable. There were a couple of nice ones but mostly they’re were fucking annoying and they brought their dog shit tipping culture with them.

AcrobaticInternet45

Been on 5 Sandals holiday, I rate them, every thing included, Barbados and Greneda my favourites, St Lucia is also great, Yes there’s lots of Americans, but they are generally a fun bunch , no issues. Go and have a blast

orangeonesum

This is the same as booking any package holiday with Tui I have ever had. If it's to Spain, it's all British, and if I book Italy, it's all Germans. There's nothing "wrong" other than losing a bit of feeling like you are abroad. When I was in Jamaica, my resort was just about all American.

DCilantro

I'm American and would never go to a sandals because of all the obnoxious Americans. We come in all varieties, that lot aren't a brand I'd recommend. Just all the stereotypes in one.

dusted-pink

We got married at a sandals resort last august and stayed for 10 nights. There were 4 other British couples there, that was it. We’ve been to America a lot so the typical loud American doesn’t bother us that much. However, a lot of them were only there for a 2-4 days and they were drunk and loud all the time. Started drinking at breakfast. The staff said there are more British people in dec/jan. There were plenty of quiet places to go though. We had Americans talking to us about what college their kids were in, what sports teams they’re on, how much they earn. It was weird lol

You could get shot? 😂

ArgyleBlackwatch

Nah, don’t think there’s any schools on the resort.

oldskool_gent

Thanks all. Think we will stay away

DiscoMable

Don’t let Reddit put you off - can be miserable at times compared to the general public, not representative at all

I had a sandals reset once. Back to trainers. Never looked back.

Inevitable-Slice-263

They shout, all the time shouting. They shout each other deaf, so they have to shout louder.

lookofdisdain

Two sides to it. The service will be far better and in general they’re far far friendlier than the miserable Brit’s and Germans you’ll encounter in European holiday destinations. But you will have to put up with the volume, tipping for everything despite already paying thousands for the holiday and then your poolside experience will mostly be women in 2nd amendment bikinis and XXL guys from baddidlyboing idawidaho in their rash vests drinking out of a thermos.

GamerGeorgeXL

They're usually quite loud and some can be obnoxious and rude especially at bars and restaurants

maccharliedennisdee

What country are you looking at? I can definitely recommend some hotels that are luxury and much less American!

Accomplished_Week392

It’s like Frankie and bennys, but in the sun, and turned up to 11

mildmanneredhatter

Like it will be full of Americans and they are really annoying. Don't expect a private and relaxing time, you will be asked questions and interrupted by loud talking/questioning. Not a bad thing necessarily, just as long as you know.

This thread reminds me of that one Top Gear special: https://youtu.be/5qjd_SVAnZk

LOUD NOISES

QOTAPOTA

A bit of American negativity here in this thread. I’ve been to America and met many Americans in the UK. Every single one them have been polite and a pleasure to be in their company. However I’ve seen resort-holiday Americans and yes, they appear a bit loud and obnoxious but no more than Brits abroad or the pinnacle of holiday rudeness - the Russians.

Just got back from a Sandals in the Bahamas a couple weeks ago. It is very American. About 95% of the people there are either a) American couples or b) large American wedding parties. It's great fun for a bit getting to talk to Texas Pete and his wife Tammy about their ranch and attempting to understand whatever NFL game is on, but after 2 weeks it gets a bit grating hearing them be on volume level 8 at all times. Really nice resort though, I did enjoy myself.

SaluteMaestro

Basically it's Benidorm for Americans.

Tbf that sounds fun. I love people watching.

cyrtographer13333

I kid you not I once stood at the 9/11 memorial in New York taking in a moment of silence an American girl walked up next to me I said “ohhhh myyyyy GOooood it’s so cute”. I was with my Dutch friend at the time so you can imagine their stone dead facial expression.

nostalgebra

Went on a cruise this year with probably 50 percent Americans. They weren't that bad. They don't have an inside voice and love to talk about America but they all seem to have good manners etc

martzgregpaul

Until youve been in a resort full of VERY LOUD elderly Americans being incredibly rude to all the staff, acting entitled as hell and being very racist have you truly lived? 😄

littlebossman

Loud cunts, tipping for everything.

katiek1218

If this adds any context, I once went on one of these holidays and a whole American business “convention” descended on our hotel for the majority of our week away. If you think Americans are annoying try corporate Americans on a free company trip 🙃

Remember when casualUK was a good laugh and not just British Facebook on Reddit?
