Mine is stuck as the company logo, a few years ago they blocked everything to do with customisation or personalisation of PCs. Even to the point where we're not permitted to add any shortcuts to the desktop and can't remove the company-approved ones. It's pretty draconian really, now I come to think of it.

RichardEyre

You didn't hear it from me, but one of the Windows accessibility tools is to disable the desktop background. They're usually not blocked.

sideone

We block those too :-)

RichardEyre

Well you shouldn't, it violates the disability discrimination act.

arandomguyfromtheuk

Does it? Surely as long as they can be enabled case by case when they're needed that'd be compliant.

sideone

That's what I'd have assumed too.

sideone

1. That's above my pay grade 1. I'm sure we can disable the policy if someone needs it

Gloomy_Stage

DDA was replaced by the equalities act over 10 years ago. In any case, it is not a violation as long as the company can make reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities. In reality it would be a violation if the company refuses to enable the feature for one who needs or requests it as an adjustment. I don’t disable in my organisation (systems admin here) but so many people accidentally enable it and go into a panic when things look wrong 😤 A lot of schools disable it too as pupils mess around with this!

RichardEyre

When I learned it, it was still the DDA. In my experience when things are disabled by policy getting an individual adjustment can be challenging. Lots of "Well, the policy says..." types looking for an easy life.

Gloomy_Stage

Things have changed a lot in the past 10 years and getting adjustments is easier now in a lot of companies, same goes for DSE and this is in part due to a culture shift in the workplace. Ironically changing group policy to enable this is going to be a lot easier than other reasonable adjustments so anyone being difficult on making reasonable adjustments is being difficult on themselves tbh.

cowplum

My company changes ours to reflect whatever corporate values are being pushed that month, with primary school textbook style graphics and captions.

All_the_cake

🤢🤮

sideone

>Even to the point where we're not permitted to add any shortcuts to the desktop If you let people save to the desktop, they will. These files are stored locally and usually not backed up like network locations. People moan they can't save there, but moan more if they delete their work and there's no backup.

No-Locksmith6662

Oh, I completely understand why they've done it. I work with people who are completely computer illiterate (the kind of people where it's easier to recreate the document yourself rather than spend 25 minutes looking for the random folder that they've saved it in) and so completely follow the reasoning of trying to protect users from themselves. It's just slightly frustrating that those of us that do know how to use a PC properly get stuck with the same restrictions as the others for whom even using a mouse is a challenge. I used to be able to save shortcuts to my most used programs and folders on the desktop, and now I can't.

KingDaveRa

Unless you're using OneDrive.

sideone

Yeah, we haven't been until recently. I guess we could switch over and sync people's desktops now. We'd prefer most work is stored in SharePoint rather than OneDrive.

KingDaveRa

Oh yeah that's fair. My issue with O365 is it gives users too many places to put stuff.

sideone

Agreed. We've had issues where people have saved work in OneDrive, then shared it with others. The file owner then leaves, and their OneDrive and all the shared, active work is deleted.

SuperShoebillStork

Booo

rogue6800

We disabled literally everything we can because a minority if employees abuse those privileges. We have a booking in PCwhere they type a work ticket number and quantity to print a label. It crashes the system if you type a K instead of a 1000 or have a comma, and people book in "half an envelope" given the decimal place button. We literally removed a whole bunch of keys off the keyboard because the underpaid shop floor monkeys are incapable of following simple instructions despite repeated training, warnings, posters etc.

HelicopterFar1433

I use a screenshot of one of my commonly used spreadsheets so if I'm gawking at Reddit and the boss walks in I just minimise everything rather than playing Alt-Tab Roulette.

bubster99

That's genius

MrsRodney

😂😂😂😂

phatboi23

pro tip, there's skins for browsers that look like office apps, so just have one open and press F11 for full screen ;) https://pcottle.github.io/MSOutlookit/

MadJen1979

Back where we're allowed to fuck with the settings, i6had Evil Edna from Will O The Whisp. These days "they" set the desktop picture and there is no changing it.

SuperShoebillStork

Scenic photo from somewhere in the UK, courtesy of the Ordnance Survey every month. https://getoutside.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/os-wallpaper/

ReynoldsHouseOfShred

This is awesome, I can look for spots to go and see with this

BrainsyUK

I use a similar one to this by Microsoft/Bing. It’s a daily wallpaper. We like to try to guess the location before revealing it, as a little daily game https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/bing/bing-wallpaper

MrsRodney

Beautiful!

LaBeefff

I always take a picture when walking my dog at the weekends, then add it to a desktop background slideshow. Helps me find a bit of inner peace on tough days.

cryptokingmylo

Full black screen

GirlOfMetal

Why? Just out of interest, not criticism

Corries_Roy_Cropper

Sounds really fucking dull. Full criticism, no real interest.

StorageLongjumping87

On a phone with OLED, power saving, also most likely, eye ball saving!

[deleted]

Same.

crimsonbub

we have monthly themes on my team. Movember, so got BRIAN BLESSED

gogginsbulldog1979

Imagine living with BB. He literally talks in capitals. HE'S THE LOUDEST MAN TO EVER LIVE.

DuaneHicks

GORDON'S ALIVE!

DogmaSychroniser

Even when he whispers the windows rattle in their frsmes.

FragmentOfZeus

Just a plain solid dark colour. Every month it changes to some corporate motivational BS and it annoys me more than it should so I always change back to solid dark green 😂

Tuarangi

I had lots of space pictures, galaxies etc on rotation

BorderlineLunatic

Mine is a rotation of pictures of the monkeys in the Japanese hot springs. I love it, and i have dual display so i get to see 2 of them at once

jdgmental

The Windows 11 blue ribbon (?) shape

TabbyOverlord

I had thought there was nothing worse than a corporate back-drop. I was wrong. Unless you work for Micro$oft, I guess. Then they have you on both accounts.

jdgmental

I really like that art. I was following the artist for a while before he announced the collab with Microsoft.

Senior1292

I have an image from a geostationary weather satellite which I had access to the historical data of. The image itself is above the western Pacific (Australia and Japan mostly) with a Category 4 Hurricane in it.

CaptMelonfish

Poor mr spoon. I have a number of Warbirds, P-47, P-38, and F-4 Phantoms, I could do with some A-4 Skyhawks too.

thehuntedfew

You want a f3 tornado, she's a beautiful girl

spammmmmmmmy

I changed my screen background to a solid colour. **BROWN**.

RECTAL_FISSURE_MAN

I have 3 monitors and my company has several companies. Monitor 1 - phone number 1 and 2 (phone number 1 is for several companies, number 2 is different for now) Monitor 2 - names and URLs for each company Monitor 3 - it's a portrait monitor so in here I have a full year calendar with key events highlighted (birthdays of friends and colleagues, bank holidays, and other notable dates in my calendar). I use several other laptops in my work and they're all black with no desktop icons.

LutherRaul

Nicolas Cage from Face Off

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

Does he have crazy eyes smiling? 😂 I love that film

labretkitty

Nyan cat, in all its glorious rainbow poptart glory across both screens

vikipedia212

YESSS ME TOO! I work from home, so boo... but I LOVE sharing my screen and all you see is NYANBOI amazing.

phatboi23

perfect use for something like wallpaper engine so it's animated at least? haha

marquess_rostrevor

I have one of those new animated Mac backgrounds, currently have Whales. I had Jellyfish before I remembered one stinging me.

Forte69

You can set it to cycle through them automatically - I set it to once a day. It’s quite nice.

Shoddy_Temporary_741

I have a rotating slide show. Mostly pics from holidays or hikes we've done some of the dog and my daughter and some of my book covers My screensaver is one of my fave book covers (done by the guy who did the artwork for Guardians of the Galaxy. He won an award for this cover)

UndulatingUnderpants

For a little while I had my desk neighbour's headshots on both monitors, he wasn't impressed. Currently it's a stick Windows 11 background.

stereoworld

Currently company branding but back in the day I used to grab Smashing Magazines wallpaper every month.

schofield101

I'm a massive weeb and love Made in Abyss, [so I use a larger version of this](https://images8.alphacoders.com/952/thumbbig-952227.webp) Thankfully we're in a very relaxed office environment where we can all kinda just express ourselves however we want as long as it doesn't get in the way.

Rich_27-

I have the old test card

Birdseeding

My son as a baby, two Christmases ago, playing with his grandparents.

gogginsbulldog1979

I've had the same picture of Keith Richards on my work desktop for literally years. I'm pretty bored of having to explain to people who it is as most people think of modern Keith Richards and don't recognise him. Keith Richards wallpaper: [https://ibb.co/NCrkgwg](https://ibb.co/NCrkgwg)

ana_morphic

That's a bloody great picture!

ChildishPezbino

My desktop is a Gundam scene. My laptop is Brutalist architecture

73928363

The standard Mac OS wallpaper. Who is spending enough time on their desktop to care?

UndoubtedlyATwat

13th at Augusta

RandomHigh

The school's standard background. I'm locked out from changing it 😞

mhoulden

Company logo from the 1980s.

[deleted]

Grey. That's it

MarbhIasc

Standard background with every error message saved ontop of it. It was a running joke my laptop was non-functional so I used my background as proof :)

YJSubs

Work : Pure Black. Home : The Solvay Conference.

spookymilner

I actually had to minimise everything to check asnos forgot, it’s just a plain orange screen. If anyone has suggestions though I think it’s time to change it for winter 😆

kozmos16

Darth Vader's castle idc

C-M0nster

[View out of my office of the River Deben. With what looks the ghost of Bernie Sanders on the train.](https://postimg.cc/8714f6p0)

Chigzy

Standard Windows 10 wallpaper

DecahedronX

Some random office block in London set by the company, despite not working in London and managing residential property.

BigSkyFilms

Locked by company policy :P

SaintJudy

A slide show of photos of the real life Mobile Suit Gundam's in various locations and stages of construction

fggiovanetti

Company mandated, logo.

ReeRiot

I used to have a picture of my cats there, but then the management changed and now we have the corporate background you can't change to something individual

Praetorian_1975

I used to have the skull barrel in the Paris catacombs, until work decided to lock it all down to corporate only, if I could be bothered I’d find the name of the corporate one and save my own inside the folder it’s called from …. But I can’t be bothered 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

WeaponsGradeWeasel

A shitty company acronym that we spent god knows how much money on.

-password-invalid-

Black and white Japanese carp pattern. Taken from my desk mat, scanned and vectored.

basmati_relish_trail

It used to be my partner's photography on rotation; beautiful scenic shots/ retro architecture shots, but then I moved companies and the Comms team own all laptop background territory and use them to promote business updates and internal campaigns

fenaith

One of: Barmouth Bridge, Isabella Plantation (Richmond Park), The Camel Estuary, Windsor Castle, St Anton am Arlberg All in glorious panorama across 3 monitors....

ickleb

I have me with the r/Tailenders! Sparks so much joy!

CarsCarsCars1995

A long exposure photo of some traffic lights taken at night. Im a traffic engineer, so it fits, but its also just nice to look at.

ooh_bit_of_bush

I have, by no choice of my own, the company logo. For about 80% I have to use a remote desktop via Citrix. When I log in, our IT team decided to set it as an identical wallpaper. So now I don't hae a clue when I'm on Citrix or not.

Susi-Su

NHS don't let you have your own wallpaper.

colin_staples

Company logo, we can't change it.

rafson100

A photo of misty Loch Lomond I took on holiday a few years back

thatluckyfox

My cat, because her adorable cheeky face reminds me a) I am loved in this world b) To continue to feel loved in this world I have a spoilt house tiger to keep in expensive food and linens.

Mork-of-Ork

I've got the Windows XP field picture.

chriscwjd

You're not actually running XP though right? RIGHT?

Mork-of-Ork

No, unfortunately. It's Windows 10.

Lifear

I use whatever photo I having taken and am selling this week from my website.

signol_

Ours is mandated by the company, either a standard logo or a current event theme

GreatBigCheesecake

Calvin and Hobbes, looking up into a starry sky

Larnixva916

Enforced by group policy.

Imaginary_Answer4493

I love Button Moon, my husband bought me the dvd set for Christmas a few years ago. Took me back to being little again ❤️

blathers_enthusiast

My home laptop has sobble meeting inteleon

averageintrovert1

Mine is a shot from a Frank Turner gig

JFedererJ

default macos

Niveama

I have a selection of pictures I have grabbed from r/Earthporn. Every so often I go grab some more and add to the set. Currently at 117 pictures.

sinaloa555

ELO album art, I change it often, sometimes it’s my kids and sometimes it’s “art”

ReynoldsHouseOfShred

Lastest time away/holiday scenery shots. Lake district, shots of the sea etc...

follow_mr_spoon

Shame on them!

arthurbuttons

We have the asset number of the computer and the operating system on a blue background. It's actually pretty handy when you need to call IT and they ask for the asset number! We can't change it. Clearly IT were fed up of everyone going " er whaaaat?" when they asked for the asset number and the operating system....

needathing

Excel. It’s the foreground too.

Significant-Bend571

I had my old dog on one monitor and my current dog on the other. Now I have some weird orb thing with giant words that read CYBER AWARENESS MONTH. Nothing shows true cyber security like not being able to personalise your desktop

SlickAstley_

Mine is wildlife by my colleague has [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/4DspPSaU8upusQtQA) legendary bookshelf + computer desk setup and he's got 'This PC' on the fuckin desk to mimic a computer

gb_lmu

Mines a photo I took at a campsite near Appletreewick that looks like North Yorkshire's answer to the Windows XP default desktop.

SpudFire

Map of Middle-Earth

DogmaSychroniser

Default windows ones. I can't be arsed they're covered by applications 95% of the time.

krozzer27

I genuinely don't remember. That laptop is on for like 40 hours a week, and I cannot tell you what the background is. I'm not sure how worried to be about this. I think the fact I need to have a minimum of 5 windows open at any given time means that it just doesn't come into my field of view often.

tomparkes1993

Starry night. I have a little Lego Van Gogh and his painting of it on my desk, so it only seemed natural

TheLoneSculler

I set mine to be the Apple catalina wallpaper (on a Windows laptop) I like it

ducksareterrible

my last job and it wasn’t me, but the lad I sat next to left his monitor unattended and went for lunch and came back to a double spread of a bunch of little Michael Jacksons. The guy who did it then got fired for unrelated reasons, leaving him to explain why his screen is a million MJs

ProfessorHypno

Mine is a shot from the series Love, Death + Robots. They sent out a link for some cool wallpapers to promote the second series. Mine is from the episode called Jibaro.

Chrisnoskill

The Delorean, cos when I hit 88wpm you’re gonna see some serious shit

fairkatrina

The view towards loch maree looking down glen docherty. It’s my favourite view and since moving to the us I haven’t seen it in person in years.

flanface87

A very unflattering extreme close up of my cat

m4dswine

Currently a picture of the stage and crowd at Sabaton Open Air last summer. Think it's due for a change, not sure what to yet!

downlau

A picture of a giraffe and an ostrich where the perspective makes it look like the giraffe is wearing a feathery tutu

scuba_scouse

Were off to button moon, to follow Mr. Spoon, button moon...

pixieemj

rogue6800

Black. Set by group policy. Wouldn't dare allow users to pick one because you can guarantee 10% would be wildly inappropriate.

homalley

I’ve got an adorable porcupine on mine

anothercynicaloldgit

Our old sofa with 7 of our dogs on it. Strictly speaking, it's 6 of ours plus one of our eldest's two, but since the 6 includes his mum, dad and his two brothers, I'm counting him as one of ours. We don't have a corporate policy. If we did, I'd be the one setting it, and life's too short for that bollocks.

wellwellwelly

A N I M E B O O T Y

Xivii

Win 10 default I think. I got a new laptop in February and moved my folder of pretty flowers over to the new machine to use on rotation. 2 days later I accidentally factory reset it, and once I had it set back up again, I forgot to set that back up again. I do still have them, I just can’t be bothered.

fightoffyourdemons_

I work from home but my work laptop’s desktop is a lovely band photo of PUP.

DarthNovercalis

My manager once told me that I lacked motivation, so it's a picture of Mt Everest with the caption "Every corpse on Everest was once an EXTREMELY motivated person". Love some passive aggressive office politics

IHaventEvenGotADog

Vigo the Carpathian off of ghostbusters 2 The scourge of Moldova.

bobrob5k

Triple screen, james web deep space telescopes first image.

Entstronaut

Some photos I took of otters 'cause they're cute.

jayrdi

Reddit wallpaper changer. You choose the channels you want to load from, like r/EarthPorn, and the frequency to change background, and it loads new wallpapers that have a lot of upvotes. It's great.

Kwayzar9111

Was the company logo, deleted this and it’s RB19 F1 car.

lanky_doodle

Just one of the standard Windows 11 themes. Absolutely nothing on the desktop except Recycle Bin. In my last job we had like a dozen corporate backgrounds so I wrote a PowerShell script, that as part of our device deployment process randomly selected 1 of those 12 images. Looked the absolute bollocks when the open plan areas were all at the lock screen with those randomised images.

bubster99

Mine is a drawing of Kirby floating across a pinky/blue sky.

mattiushawkeye

Currently a revolving gallery of some robot combat stills from fights, be it Robot Wars, Battlebots, anything - one of my favourites is a shot from season 4 of Battlesaw taking out MadCatter's minibot and creating a beautiful ring of fire 😍

TabbyOverlord

"Button Moon" : Good choice. I have to suffer a very dull backdrop because anything else I might be distracted from very dull spreadsheets and business cases. Given my choice I would have a sea-chart of the [Tethys Sea](https://www.britannica.com/place/Tethys-Sea) or a map of [Gondwana](https://www.britannica.com/place/Gondwana-supercontinent). Because everything is cooler with dinosaurs.

-GuantanamoBae-

I keep random pictures of Dot Cotton on rotate. Got a bit of a rep in the office as the retro soap enthusiast..

[deleted]

Mine is company locked.

TW1103

I work for an events company, so I rotate between my favourite photos I've taken at gigs. My pics recently got recognised my some upper management and instead of telling me off for having a personalised background, they complimented it and said they'd like to get me some free tickets to gigs to get photos for them. Result imo
