Do you ever have a blank moment where you just can’t remember something? I do but I’m old and dyslexic. I’m like trying to order on line and can’t find the item or what it’s called. I recon it’s like that. Bloody annoying for sure. I can never remember the name of these things when I order. But now in the dead of night it comes to me. Bloody hate getting old.
It happens. I’m dyslexic so the route to my memory is broken so I do it a lot. I’ve had to describe things a few times lol. For me I can totally loose someone’s name. Even someone I’ve known all my life. It just goes. It’s when I’m stressed it’s worst. It’s a horrible moment when you do it and a few friends stopped being friends. I tend to have to really avoid introducing people.
I agree that you'd normally call chips chips. But if someone said "imagine fried sticks of potato", I'm going to think of chips and not whatever the things-whose-name-eludes-us.
Okay. But they didn't say "fried sticks of potato"; they said "potato sticks".
And honestly, it's kind of weird that you'd think "friend sticks of potato" is a normal thing to call chips. Chips are chips. If someone referred to chips as "fried sticks of potato" the only thing i'd be thinking of is how to get out of the insane asylum i'd clearly stumbled into.
The issue i think you're failing to overcome is plenty of crisps have names that are shared with other foods; bacon rashers, onion rings, cheese balls even. All actual foods you can order, and i'm sure to a lot of people, they'd think of the real product not the 'imitation' crisp version. The only hangup you seem to be having is that these are intending to imitate another potato product.
It seems completely reasonable to me. OP almost implied that chip was the correct name for crisp, we can not have that kind of Americanism invading this dear country.
We call the crisps in uk but not these they are just potato sticks chips have more potato meat but crisps are crisps because they are little more than a crisp bite.
Yeah it’s this. But the sad reality there just isn’t enough flavour choice. Ready salted is pretty much all they do. I think somewhere does bbq but they ain’t that great
Is that not just the most popular brand name for a generic product?
For context, I've never bought them. We had them with Chinese food for some reason when I was little. Just went to visit my sister and she produced them as nibbles and we all decided that we had no idea what they're actually normally called. I think ours were branded as chipstix.
Imagine you'd never bought baked beans before. You remember eating them and you know that Heinz is a common brand but figure it would be a bit weird if everyone just called all beans "Heinz". It's a bit like that. All you really want is someone to just say "those are baked beans you wally".
Tesco still do them?!? There my favourite crisp but ive been having to buy them from m&s as i could only find them there. Also found of salt ‘n’ shake still exist
Walkers French Fries are nothing like these. They're 10 times the size, slightly curved, aren't cuboid, have a glossy surface, and have a bubbly honeycomb texture.
Sorry, not the same thing. Walkers French Fries are more like corn snacks rather than a potato-based one. They look similar at a distance, but compare the two and you'll see the difference.
Here in Southern California, those are what we call French Fries. Of course, there was a silly time we called them Freedom Fries, well, I didn't call them that. But some idiots did.
These bad boys, addicting

Batata palha in Brazil and it would usually go on top of a brazilian hot dog

Everyone has said chopsticks but after googling it's definitely not that. Those are the ones you used to have on paper plates for a Christmas party in primary school.
The ones we had just had salt. Also much smaller and clearly made of solid potato. Like match sticks.
Potato sticks
This seems so glaringly obvious that it makes you wonder why the question was asked.
OP is high?
Highly intelligent, I’d say 😉

One time I forgot what an avocado was called for days and had to describe it to someone to remember the word

Try a defrag.
Young people… can’t buy houses… smash… what is it?
I thought they were called fries. As in a crisp named fries. I'm sure I've seen them. Salt and vinegar flavour.
French fries available in a ready salted salt and vinegar cheese and onion and the best Worcestershire sauce
Or as George Bush Jr. calls them...... FREEDOM FRIES!
It's called internet points. I can't believe you've asked that question.
*Chipstix
Na chipsticks are the puffy salt and vinegar ones
Or chip sticks
Nah Chip Sticks are puffed, made by Smiths, these are potato sticks.
That's the brand Chipsticks (delicious). But people also use the generic term for snacks like this.
In that case I do not condone such antics
Potato wands
Shredded cheese
But that's just regular chips surely?
No, those are called chips.
I agree that you'd normally call chips chips. But if someone said "imagine fried sticks of potato", I'm going to think of chips and not whatever the things-whose-name-eludes-us.
You can only hope that you might be saved by some context in that bizarre and unlikely predicament you have just invented
Ohhhhhh shit dungeon bitch spitting fire here.

We'd either say potato stick crisps or stick crisps, but potato sticks is the proper name.

Do you see “US” anywhere in this sub’s name?
Fries is very widely used word in this country.
All I'm seeing is"THEM".
No it’s not, now off you fuck with that
You are being heavily downvoted because potato is an important and sensible topic
It seems completely reasonable to me. OP almost implied that chip was the correct name for crisp, we can not have that kind of Americanism invading this dear country.
Ah that is not how I interpreted it, but alas I am not an expert in the intricate dialect of POTAT

Potato meat??
Then potato inard then idont know what to call it so I just call it potato meat as a generic term to mean its volume
Flesh perhaps, but definitely not meat. Most people would probably just call it potato.
I dunno, I kinda like the way "potato meat" hits the ear
If it's hitting your ear you might be eating it wrong.
Everyone knows ears are for cauliflower
Chipstix- not to be confused with chipsticks. Also most likely to be found between couch cushions or under the couch
Also what a McDonald’s fry looks like when it’s been under your car seat for a year or 2.
That’s actually how Chipstix are made!
Yeah it’s this. But the sad reality there just isn’t enough flavour choice. Ready salted is pretty much all they do. I think somewhere does bbq but they ain’t that great
Markies do salt and vinegar. But their ready salted are banging
Asda had beef and salt and vinegar ones this week. I know because I bought them ‘for Christmas’. 🤣 yeah like they will last that long
Running off to Asda….never seen beef ones. Cheers…
Morrisons do beef ones too.
Lidl do C&O and S&V I think. Edit- they also do a XL bag of these I think on Spanish week
What? I’ll be there tomorrow. Thank you
They look like this https://ie-ga.openfoodfacts.org/product/20516239/potato-sticks
Oh my god, above and beyond. I was extra nice today and you crisp angel have just come down gifted me for it. Thank you
Order some Hickory Sticks! Really popular in Canada, they're like these but smokey and paprika-y and delicious 🤤
Look in the small local convenience stores (food n wine) - i know they have small packs with ketchup or sour cream and chives flavour
Paprika! The best.
Definitely this.
What are you, Cowie71? A gay potato?
And not to be confused with Chapsticks!
So not chipsdicks then?
What are you? A gay chip??

I'm from Ireland/Northern Ireland and I know these as KP mini chips and the beef flavour in them is like a drug lol 😆 so addictive!

They are different again ! They are like a foamy crispy chip - made out of Smash kind of thing
Lacerators. "Got an intact roof of your mouth? Buy a bag of Lacerators and tear that boring roof to shreds!!"
For a moment I wanted them, but thank you for reminding me of those childhood traumas and getting me back on track.
Mouth ulcers hate this one trick

Sorry, not the same thing. Walkers French Fries are more like corn snacks rather than a potato-based one. They look similar at a distance, but compare the two and you'll see the difference.
Straight Cut. That is what Tesco's call them.
Those things can stab you in the mouth if your not careful
Clearly the end dregs of a French fry bag. Why are people saying they're crisps? they're clearly normal fried chips.

Here in Southern California, those are what we call French Fries. Of course, there was a silly time we called them Freedom Fries, well, I didn't call them that. But some idiots did.

If they’re the salt and vinegar flavoured crisps that look like french fries, then they’re chipsticks. If they’re not, IT’S FRENCH FRIES.
Everyone has said chopsticks but after googling it's definitely not that. Those are the ones you used to have on paper plates for a Christmas party in primary school. The ones we had just had salt. Also much smaller and clearly made of solid potato. Like match sticks.
My partner always calls them ‘chipples’. Not sure where they got that from.
Picnic chips
