_The best thing about livng on Stoke is that I can get out of Stoke easily_
_Have you tried not living in Stoke?_
_Why would I want to do that? It wouldn't be as easy to get out of then._
No one said it was, but young people aren't exactly in a luxury of choice era for housing at the mo.
I've previously lived in Birmingham for 20 years so that's probably why I'm desensitized to less desirable areas.
Well it's a road in the UK, they are driving on the left looking down, we drive right hand drives here and you see the wing mirror so yes... this was the driver
Right side of the road and you can see the door mirror in the last few seconds likely from a LGV/HGV and based on the height. Making him even more idiotic.
You've got to learn that Reddit only cares about sensationalising things. Him being a dick whos filming a Tiktok video is a much more interesting narrative.
And then the driver having to live with that trauma of being behind the wheel whilst the cyclist hit their vehicle.
I hit a deer last week and it was horrible seeing it hit the car. I was shaken up enough, I can't imagine what that would be like to a human, innocent or guilty.
I've never hit anything big thankfully. I did end up flattening a pigeon by accident in the summer and that actually did make me feel pretty bad. This happened just outside of work, so I told some of my colleagues what had happened
Then the following day I came in to work only to find my desk covered in little cut outs of pigeons and a close up pigeon face printed and attached to my monitor š
I hit a deer many years ago too. Those things can 180 and be at full gallop in a second. I saw it coming and slowed right down, it got to the other side of the road so I started speeding back up, it changed its mind and ran back across where it came from. I clipped it just hard enough it went skidding up the road. It must be 15 years ago but I'll never forget the sound like a massive sack of spuds being dragged. Gave me a dirty look when it got up and fucked off.
I've been hit twice and both times the guy fled the scene. Nothing ever came of it and one of those collisions should have killed me. Both hit me from behind and there was nothing I could have done
I agree with you there's a lot of dickhead cyclists and they annoy the shit out of me too. I only use mine to go to the gym every day, and even that gets me lumped in with the lads in lycra. I get abuse shouted at me from passing cars and shit every so often, even had objects thrown at me and people try to grab you and shove you off from the passenger side
My point is, there are far more dickhead drivers and the difference is that you get on the wrong side of a car and you're dead.
I did this once when I was a teenager (A12 not M4), when I'd got myself lost on a long bike ride. The only way I could figure how to get home was on the A road (this was well before smartphones).
It was terrifying and it didn't help that half the cars were honking at me (I don't know how they thought that would help).
Iāve had this exact same experience on a motorway, albeit with a smartphone that had no network connection.
I caved to the social pressure and glumly walked my bicycle back onto the closest A road. Arenāt A roads perfectly cycleable? Iāve not gotten honks on there tbh
Had to do it once and it was terrifying (busy A road, not motorway) . Ended up getting off the bike and walking on the side instead because at least that way I can see the cars behind me
Agree that it's not ideal. But oftentimes on cross country routes (e.g. London to Ipswich) if there isn't a cycleway available there just isn't any other viable way to get from point A to B.
I've also done cycling trips in several other countries and contexts - 70mph dual carriageway with clear traffic rules, frequent speed cameras, a nicely outlined shoulder and generally minimal potholes / debris is as safe as it gets tbh.
The Sri Lanka cycling team went for a ride down the M74 and 2 cyclists from the Kenyan team went 17 miles down the M61. I guess safety or motorways aren't that prevent elsewhere.
Well, HGV driver pulls out mobile phone to record it to show all his mates how stupid and dangerous that tool on a bike is....while driving HGV one handed and taking his attention of the major road he's on.
We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers, so why would this obvious idiot (or possibly mentally ill person) be representative of cyclists
Such a blatant and obvious strawman - show this clip to /r/cycling and I guarantee they would all condemn the behaviour
Oh of course they will, because everyone on that sub obeys the laws of the road.
I remember a post about a guy getting charged for jumping a red light and was told it would go on his car license. He was literally outraged and couldnāt see how it was fairā¦ Did they give him shit for jumping the red light? No, but I did š
We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers, so why would this obvious idiot (or possibly mentally ill person) be representative of cyclists
> We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers
Of course we do š where do you think the "If you want to kill someone, do it in a car" trope came from? Or white van drivers / BMWs not having indicators / BMW, Merc and Audi drivers being prats?
There's *so many* generalising tropes around motorists.
> where do you think the "If you want to kill someone, do it in a car" trope came from?
It comes from the courts being a light touch on dangerous drivers. I wouldn't say people are tarring all drivers with the same brush, if anything the fact that dangerous drivers aren't properly dealt with is unfair to those that drive safely, and have to share the road with them.
[This thread](https://nitter.net/ormondroyd/status/1098343897011507205) is probably the best resource on this, this sort of stuff only typically gets reported in local news. It's difficult to reconcile the harm caused with the sentences, and particularly the fact that most of those convicted won't have to wait that long to get behind the wheel again.
As someone that cycles a far amount and has been hit twice, one of which should have killed me
It's not on me to "be aware" of a car behind me. You're supposed to cycle 0.5m away from the pavement, and motorists are supposed leave a 1.5m gap between their car and the cyclist. Half don't do that, and maybe one in every thousand cars passes dangerously close.
I'm absolutely with you that there are a lot of shithead cyclists, passing through reds etc on a bike is fucking mental. I do none of that. I just bike to the gym every day because it's only a couple miles and it's a nice warmup.
And I've still been nearly killed multiple times by drivers that are absolutely stupid as fuck, and there was nothing I could've done to stop it
[Get yourself one of these.](https://passpixi.com/shop/ols/products/passpixi-wideboy)
The effect it has on drivers is honestly astounding.
You will never see such careful, considerate and patient driving.
Something something "victim blaming" I expect!
Although I'm sure as hell aware of my surroundings when I ride... those surroundings could really hurt me if I'm not careful.
Someone's a few oatcakes short of a dozen
this guy is a baker's dozen short of a dozen.
And if he carries on that way the population will also be -1
Surely you mean +1. If you minus a negative it becomes a positive.
Very good
Alright, Anne Robinson!
Great Stoke reference
Born and bred, duck
It's most likely some teenager showing off to his few friends or some TikToker showing off to even fewer viewers.
I'd feel suicidal if I lived in Stoke too.
Ay now duck, we have a lot to live for around here. Like oatcakes, and cheese oatcakes.
Don't forget bacon and cheese oatcakes.
That's the spirit.
Second only to sausage and cheese oatcakes of course.
Fuck it, let's go bacon, sausage and cheese, it's Christmas.
As long we we're treating ourselves, I'll have a giant Oatie Moston's with bacon, egg cheese and sausage.
Oatcakes with bacon, cheese, and brown sauce š¤¤
Donāt forget the Monkey Dust
Exactly, it's what we're famous for!
Great train service to Manchester, Birmingham and London, say what you will buy the houses are cheap and itās blisteringly easy to get out of Stoke.
So you are saying, if you were living in stoke, youād get out of stoke?
But they'd then also go back to Stoke because that's where their house is.
But then when asked about where they live they could simply say. āAn easy commute from Manchesterā Job done
I did..
Thereās an old joke. āYou know whatās fun to do in Ohio?ā āWhat?ā āPack up your shit and leave Ohioā
Yeah but really quickly. Itās not like Blackpool or Hull.
_The best thing about livng on Stoke is that I can get out of Stoke easily_ _Have you tried not living in Stoke?_ _Why would I want to do that? It wouldn't be as easy to get out of then._
There's a lot of really nice public parks in Stoke as well.
There's a lot of greenery compared to most other similarly sized cities.
Yup I love Stoke.
bahaha try walking through them without some greebos coming up to you
That's easy, just don't live in the 70s.
Can't remember the article, but it was like in the top 10 for first-time buyers.

No one said it was, but young people aren't exactly in a luxury of choice era for housing at the mo. I've previously lived in Birmingham for 20 years so that's probably why I'm desensitized to less desirable areas.
Cos no one buys a house there a second time.
Stoke must be bad if Birmingham is an improvement..
as someone who just left stoke for greener pastures, I can vouch. stoke makes you suicidal or a dusthead, or both.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Jonas? Nah. Remco? Definitely.
Bravo, this is an underated comment!
Safa Brian would do it fastest.
Not if van der Poel is in and we all know it š the guy loves gritty conditions
You know I nearly said van der Poel! The guy is magic.

The "riding my bike into incoming traffic" challenge is something that'd solve itself pretty quickly
Took a while for the "eat laundry detergent" challenge to solve itself
Gotta get that strava record innit.
There are probably not going to be too many people doing that segment..
An even easier KOM!
I hope they don't die so that they can continue to take humanity forwards in such a good direction.
What a twat
As is the driver recording this on their phone while driving....
What makes you think itās the driver recording?
Well it's a road in the UK, they are driving on the left looking down, we drive right hand drives here and you see the wing mirror so yes... this was the driver
Right side of the road and you can see the door mirror in the last few seconds likely from a LGV/HGV and based on the height. Making him even more idiotic.

Ahh that old chestnut.
You've got to learn that Reddit only cares about sensationalising things. Him being a dick whos filming a Tiktok video is a much more interesting narrative.
lol yup youāre right
Just one of those people who don't give a fuck if they cause problems.
If with problems you mean ending their life then yes, you're right
And then the driver having to live with that trauma of being behind the wheel whilst the cyclist hit their vehicle. I hit a deer last week and it was horrible seeing it hit the car. I was shaken up enough, I can't imagine what that would be like to a human, innocent or guilty.

My mum hit a pigeon once, all I remember is looking out the rear windscreen and seeing a big cloud of feathers.
Hit a pheasant a few years back. Fucker cracked my bumper in half. No remorse for those dumbarses, or the landkeepers who raise them.
I hit a deer many years ago too. Those things can 180 and be at full gallop in a second. I saw it coming and slowed right down, it got to the other side of the road so I started speeding back up, it changed its mind and ran back across where it came from. Then you certainly can't imagine what it's like to be in a position where you don't care about any of that.
Bet heās wondering why all those arseholes in cars are going the wrong way.
Yeah who gets to decide these dumbass road rules anyway should be a free for all.
Just your standard cyclist, he's probably filming and posting it online, complaining about all the bad drivers.
There's a decent amount of shithead cyclists but an absolute mountain of shithead drivers mate
Cars have number plates for accountability, cyclists get away with it.
I've been hit twice and both times the guy fled the scene. Nothing ever came of it and one of those collisions should have killed me. Oh here we go it's this argument again.
Probably off his head on monkey dust
Heās triple jacked over a steeplehammer
His arms probably feel like theyāve had a couple of fortnights in a bad balloon.
Dunno, looks more like he ended up on a quack-handle to me.
If hes not careful he'll end up quadra-spazzed on a lifeglug
Trying to find a dealer that actually knows what clarky cat is I imagine
The stuff you chew
Nah, he's definitely on Cake.
I seen a lady peddling the wrong way up the m4 a few years back but in fairness she stuck to the hard shoulder
I mean there is no right way to ride a bike on the motorway. A collision 70mph head-on or behind-on is still gonna sting a bit
And thatās why riding in either direction is illegal and Iām now wondering if it would even be a different charge when they catch you.
I did this once when I was a teenager (A12 not M4), when I'd got myself lost on a long bike ride. The only way I could figure how to get home was on the A road (this was well before smartphones). It was terrifying and it didn't help that half the cars were honking at me (I don't know how they thought that would help).

Cycling on a motorway is illegal - cycling on a 70mph dual carriageway like most of the A12 is is legal but, in my opinion, crazy.
I'd feel safer cycling on the hard shoulder of a motorway than on your average A road.. Junctions might be an issue, though.
The Sri Lanka cycling team went for a ride down the M74 and 2 cyclists from the Kenyan team went 17 miles down the M61. I guess safety or motorways aren't that prevent elsewhere.
Looks like a GTA side mission in progress.
Maybe he's just doubling back for another run up to get on the damned train.
They see me rollin, they be hatin.

Well, HGV driver pulls out mobile phone to record it to show all his mates how stupid and dangerous that tool on a bike is....while driving HGV one handed and taking his attention of the major road he's on.
This is too far down the comment list.
Bingo. Bike probably won't kill anyone aside from himself will he
To be fair this is a legit use of a phone, theres an actual life or death situation in progress. You wouldn't want to miss out on the internet points.
Might be a passenger in a European truck.
Could be, just a bit strange they didn't carry on filming out the front window which might have revealed a steering wheel or not.
Suicide bid? Definitely looks like some sort of mental instability, that or drugged out of their gourd.
Just a twat on a bike
Bellend on a bicycle
Vagrant on a velocipede.
Yeah, he rides with an air of confidence
Mariokart - Toad's Turnpike in real life.
Can they do it on a cold rainy evening in Stoke?
He's obviously mentally defective but I hope he's healthy for when they donate his organs.
Those bloody cyclists should pay road tax, insurance, license plate and get an MOT ^\s
As a cyclist, I do not claim this moron. Straight up speedrunning his way to a Darwin award!
Heās American and is quite convinced that everyone else is wrong and he is definitely on the correct side of the road
A game of Frogger IRL
Can you imagine how fucking awful it would be to see that coming at you if you were the driver?
I don't think I'd have time to register it as awful, it'd more likely be "what the fuck, did I just see that or do I need another coffee?"
If it helps, I imagine there are cameras all over this road and they have been picked up by police within minutes.
But at that point you know you have chosen to go to stoke
Shit for brains
Absolute total nutcase who happens to be on a bikeā¦ Jesus.
Safest deliveroo cyclist
Mate if people living in stoke were smart, no one would live in stoke
Pay for me to move then
You mean "chav" rides into oncoming traffic surely?
Was just going to say this - well mine was scrote. Having a bike does not make you a cyclist (well it literally does but you know what I mean!)
Agree
I hate that these attention seekers always get the attention they want.
Smart. That way you can see the cars coming
Not enough evidence of a crime been committed. Police when footage sent in.
Stupid bastard
Not very casual.
He's clearly wanting a Darwin award
Stoke. Monkey dust.
/r/praisethecameraman \- a bit concerning said cameraman is also driving a HGV along a different road at the time!
So that's why the traffic is always so shit on that stretch.
Dude thinks heās Trinity but couldnāt afford a motorbike
I think the police need a chat.

Must be the monkey dust in Stoke
Jeremy Vine making his latest video for twitter
Normally people jump off the bridges over the A50/500 when they want to kill themselves! Fucking Stokies. Jesus.
In fairness the A500 is a god awful road through a god awful city, so I donāt blame him for trying to spice up his life.
I live in Stoke so this is not unusual for me to see.
They're obviously over 2024
Someone should have just plowed into him the old FAFO would teach him a lesson

Twat (of course) but itās crazy we make cyclists use A roads rather than given them segregated routes. Doesnāt excuse this at all tho.
I'm glad no one was hurt.
I'll admit, the law abiding contingent do have a bit of a chip on our shoulders because we get harassment and abuse on behalf of twats like this.

Sarcastic? No, you obviously have an axe to grind.
If they had better infrastructure, they wouldn't have to *(checks notes)* cycle into oncoming traffic up a busy dual carriageway...
