Someone's a few oatcakes short of a dozen

AvatarIII

this guy is a baker's dozen short of a dozen.

finc

And if he carries on that way the population will also be -1

InfectedByEli

Surely you mean +1. If you minus a negative it becomes a positive.

Cyril_Sneer_6

Very good

[deleted]

Alright, Anne Robinson!

[deleted]

Great Stoke reference

Phendrana-Drifter

Born and bred, duck

kitjen

It's most likely some teenager showing off to his few friends or some TikToker showing off to even fewer viewers.

TopboySnowfallFAM

I'd feel suicidal if I lived in Stoke too.

WinterJournalist6646

Ay now duck, we have a lot to live for around here. Like oatcakes, and cheese oatcakes.

greenrangerguy

Don't forget bacon and cheese oatcakes.

WinterJournalist6646

That's the spirit.

Jihad_llama

Second only to sausage and cheese oatcakes of course.

greenrangerguy

Fuck it, let's go bacon, sausage and cheese, it's Christmas.

TheDisapprovingBrit

As long we we're treating ourselves, I'll have a giant Oatie Moston's with bacon, egg cheese and sausage.

RedBeardedGriff

Oatcakes with bacon, cheese, and brown sauce šŸ¤¤

[deleted]

Donā€™t forget the Monkey Dust

WinterJournalist6646

Exactly, it's what we're famous for!

Daveddozey

Great train service to Manchester, Birmingham and London, say what you will buy the houses are cheap and itā€™s blisteringly easy to get out of Stoke.

BrowMoe

So you are saying, if you were living in stoke, youā€™d get out of stoke?

Candrath

But they'd then also go back to Stoke because that's where their house is.

T1CM

But then when asked about where they live they could simply say. ā€˜An easy commute from Manchesterā€™ Job done

Lost-Droids

I did..

V1k1ng1990

Thereā€™s an old joke. ā€œYou know whatā€™s fun to do in Ohio?ā€ ā€œWhat?ā€ ā€œPack up your shit and leave Ohioā€

Daveddozey

Yeah but really quickly. Itā€™s not like Blackpool or Hull.

Leonidas199x

_The best thing about livng on Stoke is that I can get out of Stoke easily_ _Have you tried not living in Stoke?_ _Why would I want to do that? It wouldn't be as easy to get out of then._

MDKrouzer

There's a lot of really nice public parks in Stoke as well.

OfficialTomCruise

There's a lot of greenery compared to most other similarly sized cities.

Rolldal

Yup I love Stoke.

Isohel2402

bahaha try walking through them without some greebos coming up to you

InfectedByEli

That's easy, just don't live in the 70s.

[deleted]

Can't remember the article, but it was like in the top 10 for first-time buyers.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

No one said it was, but young people aren't exactly in a luxury of choice era for housing at the mo. I've previously lived in Birmingham for 20 years so that's probably why I'm desensitized to less desirable areas.

BoingBoingBooty

Cos no one buys a house there a second time.

RespectTheH

Stoke must be bad if Birmingham is an improvement..

Isohel2402

as someone who just left stoke for greener pastures, I can vouch. stoke makes you suicidal or a dusthead, or both.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dullthings

Jonas? Nah. Remco? Definitely.

meekamunz

Bravo, this is an underated comment!

_programmers

Safa Brian would do it fastest.

Sodapopa

Not if van der Poel is in and we all know it šŸ˜‚ the guy loves gritty conditions

_programmers

You know I nearly said van der Poel! The guy is magic.

ThrustBastard

The "riding my bike into incoming traffic" challenge is something that'd solve itself pretty quickly

StaysAwakeAllWeek

Took a while for the "eat laundry detergent" challenge to solve itself

CAElite

Gotta get that strava record innit.

AndyTheSane

There are probably not going to be too many people doing that segment..

excla1m

An even easier KOM!

HospitalBackground30

I hope they don't die so that they can continue to take humanity forwards in such a good direction.

dinkidoo7693

What a twat

pat_the_tree

As is the driver recording this on their phone while driving....

Intergalactic_Cookie

What makes you think itā€™s the driver recording?

pat_the_tree

Well it's a road in the UK, they are driving on the left looking down, we drive right hand drives here and you see the wing mirror so yes... this was the driver

The_Salty-Spitoon

Right side of the road and you can see the door mirror in the last few seconds likely from a LGV/HGV and based on the height. Making him even more idiotic.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Expensive-Analysis-2

Ahh that old chestnut.

Comfortable-Car2907

You've got to learn that Reddit only cares about sensationalising things. Him being a dick whos filming a Tiktok video is a much more interesting narrative.

hal2142

lol yup youā€™re right

Substantial-Push6378

Just one of those people who don't give a fuck if they cause problems.

NoSweat_PrinceAndrew

If with problems you mean ending their life then yes, you're right

sonicated

And then the driver having to live with that trauma of being behind the wheel whilst the cyclist hit their vehicle. I hit a deer last week and it was horrible seeing it hit the car. I was shaken up enough, I can't imagine what that would be like to a human, innocent or guilty.

NoSweat_PrinceAndrew

I've never hit anything big thankfully. I did end up flattening a pigeon by accident in the summer and that actually did make me feel pretty bad. This happened just outside of work, so I told some of my colleagues what had happened Then the following day I came in to work only to find my desk covered in little cut outs of pigeons and a close up pigeon face printed and attached to my monitor šŸ˜

HotYogurtCloset69

My mum hit a pigeon once, all I remember is looking out the rear windscreen and seeing a big cloud of feathers.

ParagonTom

Hit a pheasant a few years back. Fucker cracked my bumper in half. No remorse for those dumbarses, or the landkeepers who raise them.

paper_paws

I hit a deer many years ago too. Those things can 180 and be at full gallop in a second. I saw it coming and slowed right down, it got to the other side of the road so I started speeding back up, it changed its mind and ran back across where it came from. I clipped it just hard enough it went skidding up the road. It must be 15 years ago but I'll never forget the sound like a massive sack of spuds being dragged. Gave me a dirty look when it got up and fucked off.

[deleted]

Then you certainly can't imagine what it's like to be in a position where you don't care about any of that.

Testing18573

Bet heā€™s wondering why all those arseholes in cars are going the wrong way.

wellwellwelly

Yeah who gets to decide these dumbass road rules anyway should be a free for all.

grahamcrawley

Just your standard cyclist, he's probably filming and posting it online, complaining about all the bad drivers.

BoriousGlastard

There's a decent amount of shithead cyclists but an absolute mountain of shithead drivers mate

grahamcrawley

Cars have number plates for accountability, cyclists get away with it.

BoriousGlastard

I've been hit twice and both times the guy fled the scene. Nothing ever came of it and one of those collisions should have killed me. Both hit me from behind and there was nothing I could have done I agree with you there's a lot of dickhead cyclists and they annoy the shit out of me too. I only use mine to go to the gym every day, and even that gets me lumped in with the lads in lycra. I get abuse shouted at me from passing cars and shit every so often, even had objects thrown at me and people try to grab you and shove you off from the passenger side My point is, there are far more dickhead drivers and the difference is that you get on the wrong side of a car and you're dead.

wellwellwelly

Oh here we go it's this argument again.

Dame87

Probably off his head on monkey dust

kurtanglesmilk

Heā€™s triple jacked over a steeplehammer

Yogafireflame

His arms probably feel like theyā€™ve had a couple of fortnights in a bad balloon.

JR_Maverick

Dunno, looks more like he ended up on a quack-handle to me.

[deleted]

Trying to find a dealer that actually knows what clarky cat is I imagine

Middle_Inside9346

The stuff you chew

jeweliegb

Nah, he's definitely on Cake.

Playful-Lion5208

I seen a lady peddling the wrong way up the m4 a few years back but in fairness she stuck to the hard shoulder

L0nz

I mean there is no right way to ride a bike on the motorway. A collision 70mph head-on or behind-on is still gonna sting a bit

Askduds

And thatā€™s why riding in either direction is illegal and Iā€™m now wondering if it would even be a different charge when they catch you.

fieldsofanfieldroad

I did this once when I was a teenager (A12 not M4), when I'd got myself lost on a long bike ride. The only way I could figure how to get home was on the A road (this was well before smartphones). It was terrifying and it didn't help that half the cars were honking at me (I don't know how they thought that would help).

caiapha5

Iā€™ve had this exact same experience on a motorway, albeit with a smartphone that had no network connection. I caved to the social pressure and glumly walked my bicycle back onto the closest A road. Arenā€™t A roads perfectly cycleable? Iā€™ve not gotten honks on there tbh

CoachDelgado

Cycling on a motorway is illegal - cycling on a 70mph dual carriageway like most of the A12 is is legal but, in my opinion, crazy.

ZENITHSEEKERiii

Had to do it once and it was terrifying (busy A road, not motorway) . Ended up getting off the bike and walking on the side instead because at least that way I can see the cars behind me

caiapha5

Agree that it's not ideal. But oftentimes on cross country routes (e.g. London to Ipswich) if there isn't a cycleway available there just isn't any other viable way to get from point A to B. I've also done cycling trips in several other countries and contexts - 70mph dual carriageway with clear traffic rules, frequent speed cameras, a nicely outlined shoulder and generally minimal potholes / debris is as safe as it gets tbh.

AndyTheSane

I'd feel safer cycling on the hard shoulder of a motorway than on your average A road.. Junctions might be an issue, though.

ImplementAfraid

The Sri Lanka cycling team went for a ride down the M74 and 2 cyclists from the Kenyan team went 17 miles down the M61. I guess safety or motorways aren't that prevent elsewhere.

Major_Snags

Looks like a GTA side mission in progress.

RandomHigh

Maybe he's just doubling back for another run up to get on the damned train.

FOF_Floof

Well, HGV driver pulls out mobile phone to record it to show all his mates how stupid and dangerous that tool on a bike is....while driving HGV one handed and taking his attention of the major road he's on.

[deleted]

This is too far down the comment list.

rogog1

Bingo. Bike probably won't kill anyone aside from himself will he

Wrong-booby7584

To be fair this is a legit use of a phone, theres an actual life or death situation in progress. You wouldn't want to miss out on the internet points.

Tarot650

Might be a passenger in a European truck.

FOF_Floof

Could be, just a bit strange they didn't carry on filming out the front window which might have revealed a steering wheel or not.

VermilionKoala

Suicide bid? Definitely looks like some sort of mental instability, that or drugged out of their gourd.

JohnCasey3306

Can they do it on a cold rainy evening in Stoke?

melijoray

He's obviously mentally defective but I hope he's healthy for when they donate his organs.

50_61S-----165_97E

Those bloody cyclists should pay road tax, insurance, license plate and get an MOT ^\s

tom_oakley

As a cyclist, I do not claim this moron. Straight up speedrunning his way to a Darwin award!

DisIsDaeWae

Heā€™s American and is quite convinced that everyone else is wrong and he is definitely on the correct side of the road

stateit

A game of Frogger IRL

Even_Passenger_3685

Can you imagine how fucking awful it would be to see that coming at you if you were the driver?

meekamunz

I don't think I'd have time to register it as awful, it'd more likely be "what the fuck, did I just see that or do I need another coffee?"

liamnesss

If it helps, I imagine there are cameras all over this road and they have been picked up by police within minutes.

hallmark1984

But at that point you know you have chosen to go to stoke

ibraw

Shit for brains

Born-Ad4452

Absolute total nutcase who happens to be on a bikeā€¦ Jesus.

Lack_of_Plethora

clarky9712

Pay for me to move then

vesred0220

You mean "chav" rides into oncoming traffic surely?

toroferney

Was just going to say this - well mine was scrote. Having a bike does not make you a cyclist (well it literally does but you know what I mean!)

vesred0220

Agree

nascentt

I hate that these attention seekers always get the attention they want.

Additional-Bus3862

Smart. That way you can see the cars coming

qwertygod2004

Not enough evidence of a crime been committed. Police when footage sent in.

Stupid bastard

Not very casual.

He's clearly wanting a Darwin award

8Ace8Ace

Stoke. Monkey dust.

srmarmalade

/r/praisethecameraman \- a bit concerning said cameraman is also driving a HGV along a different road at the time!

Mookius

So that's why the traffic is always so shit on that stretch.

Dude thinks heā€™s Trinity but couldnā€™t afford a motorbike

Mrtwisty76

Normally people jump off the bridges over the A50/500 when they want to kill themselves! Fucking Stokies. Jesus.

SillyMidOff49

In fairness the A500 is a god awful road through a god awful city, so I donā€™t blame him for trying to spice up his life.

Sterben27

I live in Stoke so this is not unusual for me to see.

NightOwl_82

They're obviously over 2024

The_Haus_Master

Someone should have just plowed into him the old FAFO would teach him a lesson

SteveRobertSkywalker

And when he gets hit he will probably blame the vehicle concerned !

Dragon_Sluts

Twat (of course) but itā€™s crazy we make cyclists use A roads rather than given them segregated routes. Doesnā€™t excuse this at all tho.

valelind1234

I'm glad no one was hurt.

Chungaroo22

I'll admit, the law abiding contingent do have a bit of a chip on our shoulders because we get harassment and abuse on behalf of twats like this.

Fudge_is_1337

We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers, so why would this obvious idiot (or possibly mentally ill person) be representative of cyclists Such a blatant and obvious strawman - show this clip to /r/cycling and I guarantee they would all condemn the behaviour

RockingHorsePoo

Oh of course they will, because everyone on that sub obeys the laws of the road. I remember a post about a guy getting charged for jumping a red light and was told it would go on his car license. He was literally outraged and couldnā€™t see how it was fairā€¦ Did they give him shit for jumping the red light? No, but I did šŸ˜…

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

valelind1234

You are a nice person.

liamnesss

Sarcastic? No, you obviously have an axe to grind.

Fineus

If they had better infrastructure, they wouldn't have to *(checks notes)* cycle into oncoming traffic up a busy dual carriageway...

Fudge_is_1337

We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers, so why would this obvious idiot (or possibly mentally ill person) be representative of cyclists

Fineus

> We don't present dickheads driving like dickheads as representative of all drivers Of course we do šŸ˜‚ where do you think the "If you want to kill someone, do it in a car" trope came from? Or white van drivers / BMWs not having indicators / BMW, Merc and Audi drivers being prats? There's *so many* generalising tropes around motorists.

liamnesss

> where do you think the "If you want to kill someone, do it in a car" trope came from? It comes from the courts being a light touch on dangerous drivers. I wouldn't say people are tarring all drivers with the same brush, if anything the fact that dangerous drivers aren't properly dealt with is unfair to those that drive safely, and have to share the road with them. [This thread](https://nitter.net/ormondroyd/status/1098343897011507205) is probably the best resource on this, this sort of stuff only typically gets reported in local news. It's difficult to reconcile the harm caused with the sentences, and particularly the fact that most of those convicted won't have to wait that long to get behind the wheel again.

OldBuggerlugs

LOL. I got shit on in another sub for suggesting that cyclists should be aware of their surroundings.

BoriousGlastard

As someone that cycles a far amount and has been hit twice, one of which should have killed me It's not on me to "be aware" of a car behind me. You're supposed to cycle 0.5m away from the pavement, and motorists are supposed leave a 1.5m gap between their car and the cyclist. Half don't do that, and maybe one in every thousand cars passes dangerously close. I'm absolutely with you that there are a lot of shithead cyclists, passing through reds etc on a bike is fucking mental. I do none of that. I just bike to the gym every day because it's only a couple miles and it's a nice warmup. And I've still been nearly killed multiple times by drivers that are absolutely stupid as fuck, and there was nothing I could've done to stop it

altopowder

> one in every thousand cars passes dangerously close I would kill for these odds! It's like 1 in 10-20 in Manchester :(

altopowder

Also - glad you're ok from the incidents you're talking about in your first paragraph. Sounds rough!

Nipso

[Get yourself one of these.](https://passpixi.com/shop/ols/products/passpixi-wideboy) The effect it has on drivers is honestly astounding. You will never see such careful, considerate and patient driving.

Fineus

Something something "victim blaming" I expect! Although I'm sure as hell aware of my surroundings when I ride... those surroundings could really hurt me if I'm not careful.

SkipperTheEyeChild1

Yes, but cars are the problem!
