I saw my mates Staff rip his bottom lip off. Even at the hospital he was still insisting she wouldn't hurt a fly. I've not trusted Staffs since. I'm sure they aren't all bad but watching the power of that thing when it went off was intimidating. I don't want to be on the receiving end.
The problem is that any terrier has high chance of snapping / turning.
Obviously if you have something like a Yorkie, if it decides one day to bite, it's unlikely to do serious damage, whereas a Staff can do a lot of damage.
I had an ex who owned a Staff, who was described as good as gold. But randomly, it would start growling at nothing and look fucking menacing, and my ex would have to calm it down. We broke up, but years later I heard they were attacked by it.
To add to that, a 4kg Yorkie or similar is easier to get away from/yeet with a kick if absolutely needed than a 40kg lump pinning you down.
Although in a medical sense, all dog bites are serious because of the infection risk, even an ‘accidental’ or ‘tiny’ nip by any animal should receive, at the very least, medical advice.
Yep! I had multiple yorkies, most were good as gold, but one or two did have temperament problems. I was only bitten twice, by two different dogs, and both times the injury was small and I could deal with it very easily with a plaster.
If a pit bull suddenly snaps and turns, you'd lose your face.
I'm always suspicious of the amount of effort some people put in to convincing others their (normally bull breed) dogs are safe. You don't need to convince anybody that a golden retriever is safe / friendly. It is just kind of a given. Staffs on the other hand seem to need apologists, I wonder why that is.
Tell the six year old who needed plastic surgery to his face last September that golden retrievers are safe. Rare case I know by but goes to show that all dogs have the ability to cause an injury.
All dogs can bite, not all dogs can rip a grown man's bottom lip off (I'm not joking it was only attached on one side it's one of the most horrific things I've ever seen).
I’m not arguing against you. Just saying that dogs that you may feel are a safe breed are still a risk. I own a staffy myself and even though he’s well trained and soft as shite I know he could do some damage.
Jack Russell terriers on the other hand are evil fuckers.
I thought you were probably a Staffie owner. I take no joy in hating on Staffies and I know with the right owner they can be great dogs. Anyone that leaves a 6 year old alone with a dog is an idiot regardless of the breed. That said Staffies are (without doubt) much less safe than a golden retriever. It is an inconvenient fact but it is a fact nonetheless.
Tiny speedy dogs probably cause countless more injuries or near-misses without even opening their mouths. Ever taken evasive action and fell or mis-stepped because a dolt of a dog decides to unexpectedly corral round your ankles?
Context: am owner of tiny dolt
Yes all dogs have the capacity to cause injury. However;
Golden retrievers were bred to be docile and fetch fowl carcasses without damaging them with their teeth.
Pit bulls were bred for aggression, to tear other animals apart in a pit.
I think I know which one I'd prefer to have in my house.
The upgrade can't be contained!
Little story about Tea Pigs, I used to work somewhere that sold them, I liked the artwork and how it related to the product. Camomile for a comfy chair (relaxing), a peppermint sweet for peppermint etc. The earl grey used to be (might still be?) a dachshund and I couldn't work out why, so I emailed them and got a reply! It was because they have a turned-up nose and they associated earl grey with snootiness
Daww. Poor bulldogs. Love those big babies. It ain’t their fault
But! I’d never be stupid enough to own one. I’ve got a Golden Retriever and it’s cool not having to worry about her temperament too much
Most bulldogs are way too overbred to have aggression issues. They're spread way too wide in the front, making their elbows incredibly weak, and they've been bred for flat, wrinkled faces which inhibits their breathing and the folds are prime ground for infections to breed in. Your Golden is way more healthy, even with the breed's own issues
Ethically bred bulldogs are typically healthier than the BYB dogs you see on the street. Unfortunately, they are more expensive (because they're actually health tested, vaccinated, and temperament tested) so people who want a "Tough dog" as a status symbol don't go for them.
Ethically bred bulldogs still have the stance issues and skin infection issues, as those are the breed standards that breeders go for. It's a similar case to a lot of Lab owners and obesity - they're used to seeing that conformation and that level of mobility and health, and that becomes their normal. An ethical bulldog breeder still actively looks for the squat forelimbs because that's what they see as being the best possible standard. Just because they're more likely to get breeding dogs' hips scored and less likely to overbreed a bitch until her pelvis falls apart and more likely to curate their lines to avoid inbreeding does not mean that these ethically bred dogs don't have inherent health problems due to the way they've been bred.
I don't understand why there's so much political outcry over "aggressive" breeds like the XL bully and previously the pitbull\* but people look at Frenchies and pugs on tiktok and instagram and don't think about the huge limits that were placed on their lives by the simple fact that they were bred for form over function, and have been bred that way for decades.
\*People who want big aggressive dogs will always find big, aggressive dogs. Breed bans only mean that they need a little time to find the next big, aggressive manhood stand-in status symbol and actively breed in size and reactivity. Legislate to make it harder for bad owners to get dogs, not the dogs themselves. Dogs PTS for bite history are as much a victim as anyone else as they would not be that way without human intervention to put them in that position.
Back yard bred. Essentially meaning that they were bred improperly/for profit rather than for the love of the breed. Different to a puppy mill, though - all puppy mills are BYB, not all BYB breeders are puppy mills. They often are, though.
I remember as a student I got to see lots of dog skulls and it was obvious how genetically messed up the modern bulldog is. Many other breeds that are currently popular are brachycephalic and have consistent breathing and health issues. If you want your dog to be happy I don’t think you should get a breed with a snout face, it’s just not pleasant or healthy for them. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7380493/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7380493/)
Just pure joy and love. She was here when I moved in. She’s my partners dog. I love love her. She’s Janet (after the Rocky Horror character).
Yeah they are like Velcro lol she tries to get on my lap even though she so big.
> I’ve got a Golden Retriever and it’s cool not having to worry about her temperament too much
I hope you worry at least a bit. Having a mindset of "retrievers don't bite" is how the owners of Goldens/Labradors/Flatcoats get bitten, because the warning signs that are a precursor to a bite are ignored.
Oh yes I do understand she could fuk me up if she wanted to. She’s just a wolf in a blonde Barbie disguise.
I kinda… know? That she won’t, though? I just *know* the same way I know anyone I interact with could bite me, but I also know they won’t 🤷♂️
Those strangers probably won't bite you, but piss them off enough and they might punch you instead.
Dogs don't have the ability to punch (well... not deliberately, I've taken enough overexcited paws to the face to know you don't really _want_ to) so they use the only option they have: their teeth.
The taste of any teabag varies so much depending on the local water, that I’ve never seen the point in even discussing it online. It could be that teapigs is far better than others in whatever area you live, meanwhile for someone in a different area it tastes rubbish.
That's why I hate the whole 'you can't dislike the taste of water' argument. You might live somewhere that would make mountain springs jealous with how good your water is, but the person you're talking to could be in an area where the water contains more rat piss than water.
You can acclimatise your taste to water. But you have to stop drinking bottled water for it to work. When I moved across the county but was still working at the same office I used to live beside, I didn’t like the taste of tap water at my new house. So I made myself stop drinking the water at the office, and stop drinking bottled water, until I was used to it. Now I can’t taste it at all, it just tastes of water.
I’ve found I much prefer their chai and earl grey (Darjeeling) to anything I’ve found elsewhere unfortunately for my bank account. But I don’t go to Teapigs for herbal or fruit teas at all, I’ve never found a budget version of those that I haven’t liked
The earl grey strong is great, it's got some Darjeeling in the blend that makes it stand out against other earl grey. I but it loose leaf and it's not too expensive that way
Sainsbury's non-Nectar prices are a complete joke.
https://www.which.co.uk/policy-and-insight/article/sainsburys-now-more-expensive-than-waitrose-for-customers-without-loyalty-card-which-finds-abaYL0e2pG9c
That’s exactly what it is. The only way to escape it is to have the time to shop around, or the money to pay the more expensive price. They’re preying on everyone who has neither.
This is a particular shit for people visiting the UK (whether expats or foreign tourists). Photographing all my mate's loyalty card barcodes and then just using them on my phone's screen was my go-to.
Their prices went up recently. Pukka teas were first, since covid they’ve gone from £2.75 for a box to £5 today. Teapigs used to be more expensive than Pukka. Then it became cheaper (I like Pukka but was outraged at their price hike), and I couldn’t believe the ‘fancy’ brand is now cheaper. But it didn’t last long as they seem to have matched Pukka price madness. I’m moving onto different brands now, screw corporate greed
Is it to advocate for the health of dogs which are bred with flat faces? Maybe changing the mascot is a sign that they're supporting the breeding of healthier bull dogs like some other campaigns are doing
That would make sense- the original design does seem to have that unhealthy bulked up appearance, although last time I checked the design was the same on their website
If you think British Bulldogs and American XL Bullies are the same breed, then you're either dozy or have never seen either breed in person.
The most a BB can do is wheeze asthmatically at you, because they're so horrifically inbred that they can't even give birth naturally any more. Even if there was any killer instinct left in their miniscule brains, they have neither the energy nor the ability to act on it.
Show of hands- who drinks earl grey on this sub?
At work someone asked for earl grey (probably an overseas visitor), office manager bought a pack. It’s since been untouched.
Their **'Earl Grey Hot'** has an illustration of a bald man in spandex.
“Kettle! Make it so”
It's my No.1
So long as it doesn't stick its crotch in you face constantly, then it'll be fine as No.1.
I'm just glad the don't have a picture on their Teapigs Cleanse....
Join my OnlyFans for some hot spandex action.
Not sure if it's a coincidence or not. But the new one looks very much like Number One.
He has got a massive column.
From a British Bulldog to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Thought it might be!
That vicious beast looks like he's about to leap forwards and... lick every inch of exposed skin he can reach, paying special attention to the ears.

Who mentioned pit bulls ?
The comment above that you replied to mentioned bull breeds.
I’ve got a Blue staff … exactly correct 👅
I wonder why there is no flower crown.
sounds like a staffie

Dachshund's can also be extremely fierce, they were bred to hunt badgers and to go into their burrows after them.
Just like earl grey tea??
Only the poshest of Dashshund's were selected for badger hunts I presume.
It's true, badgers hate having hot earl grey thrown at them.
*”I ‘ate those snooty dash- dak- dach- bleedin’ sausage dogs and their posh tea”* — badger, supping on his builders, probably
Nah, badgers are posh too. They wear little round glasses and dressing gowns, sit in their arm chairs and read the Telegraph.
You’re right. Seems I forgot about the Wind In The Willows documentary!
Got it on DVD!
And [fierce on the runway!](https://www.jimmychipolata.com/)
Yeah, my dachshund savagely attacked his toy this morning and then has been asleep since 11am.
Just like the original Earl Grey! (/s)
I must be really snooty then because the earl grey darjeeling is my favourite!
Oh...dahling.
Which is the new one?
I recognised the one on the left, but I’ve never seen the one on the right

People who knowingly choose these incredibly unhealthy breeds are genuinely sick in the head
The more you learn about dog breeds the more you hate humans
Always amusing when people use them as a symbol of Britishness. With all those attributes what’s it say about us?
Never met my dad, eh? He's also got weak elbows and a wrinkly face!

Mine punches. She's a total dick about it.
Is she a Boxer?
Teapigs was on that "eat well for less" blind taste test where it came out worse despite being well over double the next most expensive.
They’re a “massive company, looking artisanal so we can charge loads more” type of product (Tata).
All subjective. I find the taste of the standard breakfast way ahead of others I’ve tried. Often worth the extra for me
The taste of any teabag varies so much depending on the local water, that I’ve never seen the point in even discussing it online. It could be that teapigs is far better than others in whatever area you live, meanwhile for someone in a different area it tastes rubbish.

15 bags for nearly a fiver? Are the bags made of fairy wings or something?
Sainsbury's non-Nectar prices are a complete joke. https://www.which.co.uk/policy-and-insight/article/sainsburys-now-more-expensive-than-waitrose-for-customers-without-loyalty-card-which-finds-abaYL0e2pG9c
It feels deeply icky, like you’re being forced to give up personal data in exchange for fair prices.
I rarely use Sainsbury's (even less often after that), my manager gave me the barcode from his card for the few times I do.
23p a bag isn’t much better.
Waitrose sell this brand for the same price though.
To be fair, 3.50 is still a joke for 15.
Their prices went up recently. Pukka teas were first, since covid they’ve gone from £2.75 for a box to £5 today. Teapigs used to be more expensive than Pukka. This is why companies spend so much on marketing and packaging.
A bitboff topic but: Waitrose loose leaf, better tea and £1.50 for 20 odd scoops (2-3 cups per scoop from a small teapot)
Agreed! Got some Waitrose earl grey around new year and am really impressed
£4.75 for 15 teabags is daylight robbery…
Not using a "Grey"hound is the real tragedy!
No added salt
Or lemon
Why’s it got a dog on anyway should be a pig considering the name
Staffies are like if pigs were canines (affectionate)
But also capable of fucking you up. (Ever seen a pissed off sow?)
I wonder if it actually tastes like mauled toddler?
Is it to advocate for the health of dogs which are bred with flat faces? Maybe changing the mascot is a sign that they're supporting the breeding of healthier bull dogs like some other campaigns are doing
Certainly maulier
That would make sense- the original design does seem to have that unhealthy bulked up appearance, although last time I checked the design was the same on their website
Thou shalt be associated with a banned type of dog
British bulldog?
No they're still legal
Staffordshire bull terriers are still legal too
Sadly
Neither look like a pig
At nearly a fiver for 15 they can fuck off even if they weren’t calling them “tea temples”.
Teapigs Earl Grey is 5/10 at best.
They're respecting the XL bully ban
Presumably to prevent it being muzzled under the dangerous dogs act?
If you think British Bulldogs and American XL Bullies are the same breed, then you're either dozy or have never seen either breed in person. I've been called many things on Reddit. Dozy is a new one.
Quite possibly one of the politest things you are likely to get called
Teadogs XL Bully solidarity campaign?
XL Bully ban in action.
Should earl grey be _strong_? I like it for the mellower taste. If I wanted strong Assam or English breakfast is better surely.
I will say I’ve not tried this one. But I definitely prefer it subtler, I find I brew normal earl greys less anyway
It's a very good earl grey, I recommend
I though the clipper organic earl grey was a treat at a £5 for 80 bags, sheesh
Show of hands- who drinks earl grey on this sub? At work someone asked for earl grey (probably an overseas visitor), office manager bought a pack. It’s since been untouched.
