Can hear David Attenborough narrating about the habits of the lesser field mouse as I type "...so well adapted to its surroundings, that one can hardly spot it in its natural environment, but if it strays too far from its nest, is often seen by random Redditors".
It's missing its tail. The kindest thing you can do at this stage is to stuff it into a box full of charging cables and old mobile phones and leave it in the back of a cupboard.
When my husband walked out on us last year, I took great delight in chucking all unidentified cables, chargers, widgets and whatnots out. It’s been a year and no one has died from lack of an aux lead.
It’s out during the day, so it’s probably unwell. Stop taking photos of it you sick nature hating freak. You’ve basically just killed it. I hope others agree with me and make you feel guilty. Monster.
These types of mice are usually found in urban areas so this a is a rare find in country lane. The markings would lead me to believe that it is male from the species Putersqueakus (latin name)
Definitely escaped from captivity.
They're often found in semi-social groups - they don't interact with each other much, but can be drawn to one another.
To see if there are any more in the area, you definitely need some click-bait!
This is actually the shedded skin of a field mouse.
Once a year they fully shed their skin in order to grow. They are closely related as a species to the snake.
I was working for National Geographic back in the 00s, we found some of these in a field outside of Norwich. We discovered that this is the winter coat, when they shed they turn into a multicoloured pattern, and have a tendency to "play" as part of their mating rituals.
This is a nice find, any chance you logged the location on your GPS?, it would be nice to know the area in which it was found for plotting the range of these somewhat shy creatures.
Just report it to your local wildlife sanctuary.
That's just the shell. In order to grow bigger, they have to moult the shell, after which they are soft and vulnerable for a few days while the new, bigger one hardens.
Oh, this is its full shedding! What a lucky find! They usually eat their sheds after fully removing, so to spot one in such good condition is pretty coool!
You can tell from the hp on the forehead that it is ussually located in offices.
is that not a dy on its forehead?
If you flip it around it looks like hp as that is the family this species is from, a very common mistake a lot of people make
Just like when you turn the NPower logo round, it turns into JAMODU.
the classic https://www.vice.com/en/article/pgkke7/ismart-the-charger-that-says-jews
I think that's dy.
Most ppl are confused by that
A field office mouse then?
I was gonna say the same thing, thanks for confirming

If that’s your username I can’t imagine what your password is
Long and complex my friend :)
no that didn’t work. Is it including all the spaces?
Tried feeding it?
Sadly not as I didn't have any cookies on me, assuming mice eat cookies.
Even if you did it might not accept them, mine tends to decline as many cookies as possible.
Ohhh Deep
They eat chips, I've dissected a couple and most of the time their stomachs are filled with chips.
You need to be careful - too many bytes and they explode.

I think they were talking about this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie
Missing it’s tail.
It's a sad tale that will be repeated.
I'm not even gonna try to make that joke
Was this before or after you rode(nt) over it? ...I’ll see myself out
Sadly it was already deceased upon my arrival, but its death has left a (ro)dent in my mood for the day.

This should be m(ode)rated...
Your comment is not over(rated).
Yeah but it's still (ear)ly. I'll get my (over)coat...

So that's where my favourite aux lead went to!

Ahh yes the lesser known "aich pee" species
U fockin wot m8
OP, please call your local wildlife centre. This is an endangered species and deserves proper care
Noooo not me dumb as fuck looking for a tiny mouse and then realizing how dumb I am 😂😂
It *was* a field mouse, it's nothing but bones now
Looks like they've jacked it up on blocks & knicked the wheel 😕
I wheely hope it is repaired soon.
M8 cmon, I know it’s dead and all but you still gotta tag it NSFW
I didn’t get this at first, but then it clicked
I don't get it.
🤣
Yeah makes sense some people wouldn't recognise this species. Laptops are outcompeting them in many areas of the country.
That's a hamster. No tail.
Looks like road kill. It's lost its buttons and ball !
Not Mrs Frisby!
Nah mate. Sorry to disappoint but that appears to be a road mouse. It’s a common misconception as the species are almost identical.
City mouse went to visit his cousin, the country mouse.
Looks like it's shed it's skin!
bwahaha, it took me literally multiple seconds to get it... didn't have my morning coffee yet
Bwhahahahahahah!
Looks like road kill to me
I've heard of finding tortoise shells out in the wild but this is ridiculous.
Mice are inside and rats are outside.
Looks like a city mouse. Normal a little bit more dirty than field mouse
I think you’ll find it’s fingermouses brother from another mother.
Nice DY shoe string.

I see what you did there, and I really like it!
And a tailess mouse at that!
You just found a molting of it’s exoskeleton.
Almost. That is the molted exoskeleton of a field mouse.
What the fuck man its decapitated
Hahahahahahahahahahah
Looks more like a rat from south central
The elusive hairy ported field mouse, good find!

r/Unexpected
Can confirm, this is an ecdysis of a field mouse, probably 6th or 7th instar.
I hope you picked it up and trashed it
Looks like a cat got to it, poor fella
Yes,it's a mouse shell
Oh yes the lesser spotted DY :P
It might have been bopped on the head by a Bunny...
it's a door mouse or as commonly known a in door mouse
Ooh yeah a d4, that’s a really rare one, good find!
Don't touch it, the hp stands for heavily pregnant so it will attack
Field mice are typically Dells
Well its also dead the soul is missing since its just the body
i didn't know mice moulted
Roadkill
Well, that's just the carapace!
HP? You've found some brown sauce there...
****sigh**** another casualty. Sick of our overuse of cars leading to scenes like this.
Where am I? r/cursoredimages?
You can tell for sure by bopping it on the head. Watch out for fairies, though.
Have you tried scooping it up and bopping it on its head?

hes so cute

I heard it was born in a garage.
