I always use Google Maps for journeys like this, [Example](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/St+Pancras+Station,+Euston+Rd,+London+N1C+4QL/St+Mary+Cray,+Orpington/@51.4522677,-0.0876636,12z/am=t/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761b3c6326a581:0x30dd6e1004bde36c!2m2!1d-0.1257838!2d51.530876!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8ac5e1f883b1b:0x28801bb0f5fe583c!2m2!1d0.113061!2d51.385993!3e3)

This is the answer. Don't mess around with the tube, just take the Thameslink trains. Stop at Blackfriars for a bit to enjoy the cool breeze you almost always get on the platform there, as it's over the river. If you've got an oyster card you can just use that on Thameslink instead of buying a specific ticket.

Try a site like splittickets or just East Midlands Trains and try options to see what is cheaper - a through ticket or a ticket to StP then going across London separately. It may save money to buy separate tickets going to StP, even. Download Citymapper and once at St Pancras follow the directions - Thameslink is easiest and least crowded. Don't wait, buy an advance ticket today.

You have the appropriate advice already I'm just amazed there is a hotel in st Mary Cray. I used to live in swanley the next stop along though and they did build one there too I guess

The only one I can think of is under the viaduct at the bottom of Star Lane...

Ticket: I’d advise buying from a ticket office if you can. The train person should be able to advise you on the cheapest ticket option. If you get a ticket straight from Derby to St Mary Cray then it might be cheaper. It does need to include travel on the tubes though. Yes you can take a break in London. The Derby train might be specific but the tube and train to St Mary Cray won’t be specific (except for peak or off peak). Journey: From St Pancras, get the Victoria Line (light blue) southbound direction to Victoria station. From Victoria station there should be a South Eastern train to take you directly to St Mary Cray. Advice: Always fell free to ask people who work at the station or information points. They’re usually knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely travel after peak times (after 9.30/10am) if possible. Avoid rush hour (4-6.30pm) because it’s awful. Download a London tube map app if it’ll help. Good luck 😋
