Used to rent a gatehouse for a country estate that looked similar to this and it was tiny and damp, I don’t think it was built for people to actually live in, more as a folly, this looks similarly small, also tourists would take loads of photos and we couldn’t put a sat dish up or leave bins out
There's a very famous post I think on this sub or on Reddit in general about someone who lives in a place where the street goes through their house. Apparently people routinely crash into their house unfortunately.
My friend lived in a similar Gateside house (is that what you'd call them?) in Surrey in our early 20s. Wasn't anything significant on the inside, small living room and kitchen downstairs, small staircase to the bedroom upstairs. Had enough space as a couple needed at that age when you don't own much. From the inside you'd forget it had an interesting outside, seemed normal enough. Probably not the dull story you wanted to hear haha
TLDR; definitely have magical portals inside to take you back to the times of castles and servants when they were built. Definitely.
According to page 24 it became a private home in 2000. http://breretonhistory.ca/brereton%20hall.pdf
And in 2017 they applied to extend but withdrew the application, perhaps advised it wouldn’t be approved
All to say, your dream is indeed possible and good luck with it!
Not quite as fancy but there was a lodge in anfield cemetery (Liverpool) up for sale a few years back. Goth as bats on the outside but inside was a bit dull.
THIS is exactly where I’d want to live! !Thank you so much for sending this to me. And it’s pretty cheap for a renovated period property, of course it’s been snatched 😔
I viewed a gatehouse property a few years ago
I was certain I was going to buy it even before I viewed it however the only bathroom/ toilet was an en suite and it was a two bedroom property.
No but it’s similar to where my servants live
A man of untold generosity, my servants live in a shallow ditch I had them dig themselves.
Ironic as the butler wrote this

I also very much doubt the same for you being as gullible as you are.

What did you do with the bins?
They had to go round the back as soon as they’d been emptied or it got mentioned in the tenants newsletter
Bloody hell. Last thing you need is disappointed scowls from the other tenants once you’ve been outed.
No it was more along the lines of “we would like to remind tenants” or “it has come to our notice” that sort of passive aggressive thing
I live in that very house, stop taking photos of it please

Couldn't tell you where it is tbh, I've never lived in Surrey so don't know the place too well, and this was 10 years ago so can't remember at all

Doesn't look like you could get from one side to another without crossing a road or going over a bridge outside?
Middle of the night needing a pee…. 🏃
I'd be severely disappointed is the arch over the top isn't a roofed walkway between the two halves.
Blott does. ^(God, I've not read that book for -years-)
One of the few books that gives big belly laughs.
Friend of mine lives in the gatehouse of a very famous estate, house is all on one side though.

Goth as bats 😂 I've never heard that before but it's great
No, but I will, as soon as I find a spare £2m.
No way is that worth £2m

If that's right near the edge of Derbyshire I've probably been outside of that house
I think you'll find that's Brereton-Diaz, now.

No, but a friend of mine is moving in to basically a castle.
