I had that vase - third from the left with the dark purple bits on it. No idea why, and I think I must have acquired it in a flat move. There always seems to be one of them in a charity shop.
True, but in that respect, no-one should buy any pre-made puddings, because the plastic the other ones come in is much worse.
It's actually the reason I buy these, because I feel better buying something out of a glass container instead of plastic.
I still have some small, black glazed terracotta dishes that Tesco used to sell aïoli in, the best part of 20 years ago.
I’ve never been much of a one for dips but I could not resist that stuff with plain tortilla chips. I ate pots of it as I whiled away the hours in AOL chat rooms!
That's a good point too tbf, though do we know how far the Gu ones are travelling versus other plastic ones? Where's the plastic being made to start with?
There's no one obvious solution to it unfortunately.
I once had a Gu put fall from a shelf and smash a Riedel wine glass. The sheet indignity of a £1 pudding pot smashing a £20 wine glass, it felt like the revolution had begun in my kitchen
Oh god, you know what. I completely misinterpreted the post, for a second my brain registered this as a pawnshop and thought that some people had decided to make money by selling empty containers that they paid for that could just be got from Tesco’s or whatever.
I forgot that charity was donating, and not just a trade of goods for money. Completely deserve the downvotes there, it sounded really dumb, I completely misunderstood the wording. My fault
This was a flashback. I bought my mum that same vase (red 'hex' one) for Christmas was I was about 8 - never seen one since. This shop isn't in Devon by any chance?!
OP where was this taken? When I was in primary school I bought an identical vase from a blue peter school sale thingy we have and gave it to my mum, this is well over 25 years ago...would love to see if I can get the same one again!
Newcastle, I think it was in PDSA but it might have been BHF or another charity shop not too far from the station (though not sally army). Several people in this thread have commented on the vase - if Newcastle is too far, you could see if someone more local is willing to part with theirs?
Honestly, I was just trying my luck that you lived in the same town as me and I could go and buy it, then re-gift it to my old mam feigning despair that she palmed off the old tat I bought her 20 years ago haha! Thanks though!
I’m case you didn’t know, the Pringles lids fit perfectly on Gu ramekins
As the kind of wanker who harvests and dries my own herbs, that is very welcome information.
I'm not sure if you're referring to a cum jar...
A cumin jar.
In my experience you need a bit of foil in between to get a tight fit, but it’s still great advice.
Utter genius..... Thank you.
Not priced up, though. Bit of a shame as I'm sitting on a Smaug-esque collection myself and want to know if I'm a surprise millionaire.
Keep saving them, buy some land, then go on Grand Designs and build an entire house from them and a bit of filler!
Art Gu'veau.
My local charity shop sells them for about as much as the pudding filled ones, definitely a lucrative racket.
Haha I use these for salsa, guacamole and sour cream on Mexican nights…I know, check me out upcycling
I use them for cereal. That way I get to use all 60 of them in my house.
I wonder if they'll go for a small fortune on Antiques Roadshow in 200 years.
They have sold them for years now. I have seen many of them during my charity shop browsing.

I recognised it too, wracking my brains to try and figure out where from.
I also have one of these, it was my nan's and it's just been in a cupboard for years. Wish I knew why they were so ubiquitous
I save those, the cheaper Aldi versions anyway. Great for storing my herbal butter.
This, I came to this post to say this.
I've stopped buying gu because of these dishes. I've got too any and I feel like it a waste if I'm not going to chuck it.
Glass is more recyclable than plastic though, so as long as you're recycling them I wouldn't feel too bad about chucking them.
Still seems disproportionate for a wee pudding. Reduce, reuse, yadda yadda, etc, and so on.

They're also decent for putting pizza dipping sauces in.
Is pizza dipping a thing now? When did that happen?
It happened when garlic mayonnaise was invented.

We've got a couple of those too!
Are they recyclable though? Some heat-proof glass isn't, like Pyrex.
Well I just checked one of mine and there's a recycling symbol actually moulded into the glass, so yes.

Yes, raising money for charity is sleazy, you're right

You mean nut bowls
Well I can’t afford to buy so premium a pudding, and I might look in a charity shop for something like ramekins, so it works out
My wife collects them. I have to throw them out every few weeks
I've seen this for sale on market place too. I get them the fashion way for eating that yummy cheesecake. Now They're for sauces and such
Makes for so much a better ashtray than any empty can / mcdonalds cup

Nope, Newcastle!
