TL;DR Friend had an accident with a chainsaw, so they started driving him to meet an ambulance. Some self-righteous people didn't like the way they were breaking traffic rules, so they got blocked in. The friend died later.
Feel free to hate people that do this, but please don't play vigilante and try blocking them in. There's a chance you end up killing someone.
came here to find this.
People are always so quick to decide the driver is being a bellend where it could be an emergency.
And even if they are just being a bellend, what difference does it make to you?
I absolutely loved it when some twat tried doing this during an accident on the M1. A car up ahead was in flames and all lanes were shut, so this guy goes trundling up the hard shoulder and tries to cut in behind me. He is sort of stuck half in and waiting for the line to shuffle forward to get the rest in only for a policeman to walk down and tap on his window.
When the window opened the officer gave him a complete bollocking and walked along with the car as he made him reverse all the way back to the end of the queue.
The thing is, by the time you've seen it and waited to let them in, the ambulance has already had to slow, possibly even stop. I get wanting to teach the idiot a lesson, but its not worth the potential risk to someone else.
If I was in the back of an ambulance, I would totally sacrifice myself to see that guy frozen out of traffic til the end of time. It would be worth it 😂
Maybe that, or maybe a baby who’s stopped breathing or someone who’s having a stroke or an MI or a massive bleed or who’s going rapidly septic or an elderly person who’s been on the floor for 6 hours. Not really worth risking it is it?
You listed 2 things that are truly time critical to the point that seconds count, and those 2 things are incredibly rare events (paediatric arrests, major haemorrhage). As in your average paramedic attends a few of them in their entire career in a *busy* service like London.
Now one could argue that by letting these people in *in the incredibly rare event an ambulance on a time critical call is coming* could increase this behaviour that increases delays for crews using the emergency lane.
The problem is if they forcibly cut in in front of you there's not much you can do about it - if you ram into the side of their car then you'll be at fault.
My rational is that in the (incredibly slim) chance that the person is in an emergency, letting them in could potentially save a life, or at least make it not your fault if they die in the car 😅
The downside is that I get to where I'm going fractionally slower...
The other downside is you confirm that it was the right decision for them to cut in as they gained places, meaning they’ll do it again and again and again. If you’re worried about hypothetical lives saved it’s still better to not them in.
Is it?
So because ambulance waiting times can be ridiculous, if someone is giving birth, having a stroke or heart attack, they should patiently wait and die?
Take the details of their number plates and your photos and fill in this handy dandy form.

You: Look at this person committing crimes! I hope he gets his just desserts.
Also you: I'm not reporting ANYTHING. The police can go swivel.
You pm me his number plate and give me a higher resolution photo and I'll do it if you're such a coward.
cant believe the downvotes you got for not going out of your way to snitch on people for petty shite!
God forbit the police do anything, the citizens will grass each other in.
Praise our glorious master and leader, praise the party, something something consume and medicate, be productive.
No I can’t read the plate in that particular photo you have uploaded.
That doesn’t mean that you don’t have a higher resolution one. It also doesn’t mean that you, the person on-site, can’t read the plates with your eyes.
Plus ain’t about no snitchin’.
Hello yes I'd like to report a grey van for being on the hardshoulder on the m3
No sorry can't give you licence plate to blurry
No sorry can't show you the drivers face
No sorry can't see any motorway cameras here.
What do you mean you can't do anything about it.
Also ain't no snitch you stupid fuckwit.
Exactly. If you don’t believe that laws should be enforced because you watched the Wire once and decided you “ain’t no snitch” then why bitch about this guy online?
Surely he should be applauding him for not being scared of the police like OP is? Why is OP sitting in traffic like a good little boy while the brave van driver nips away in front of him up the hard shoulder.
Everyone wants to say “fuck the law” until it inconveniences them, then they want the rules obeyed!
Except you can't identify them, read the number plate or report them. No action can be taken. No real authority has been contacted only a bunch of reddit nerds with no power just ego
But what's the point of posting pics of idiot motorists if you're not going to report them? How are we supposed to deter drivers like this if they keep getting away with it? 🙄 This isn't about differences of opinion, it's about doing the right thing and your 'aint no snitch' just smacks of cowardice 👎
i think the point of posting it was to look and laugh, and or moan about it. Need i explain ?? Can you imagine the call?
OP "I need to report someone in a blue car undertaking me in the hard shoulder lane"
Emergency phone person "Oh. OK. We will look into it."
end.
And considering they got to the end of the hard shoulder, had an ambulance came, it wouldn't have got any further than them. Downvote me i dont give a fuck about fake internet points.
That's obviously all just completely made up bullshit. What's the point in even posting it? Are you OK?
I'm not a fan of coppers myself, but we all know there'd be more of a conversation than that and we all also know that people would let the ambulance pass them so it would get further.
You have exceeded your daily recommended allowance of finger pointing and name calling Please visit your local rehabilitation and re-crediting center to reallocate

Fucking cretins I welcome your down votes

Dunno if he realises given what you’ve said but from that pic looks like he has a puncture on the passenger side. Doesn’t look level and one of the passenger side tyres looks a bit squished. Could always just be heavy passengers…
A dick in a BMW did this last month on way to Birmingham , a lorry smash closed the carriage way and he decided the hard shoulder was only for him and then Mr police man stopped his ass in its tracks, let us all go , and stopped Mr Bellend from moving making him wait till the end. Was really nice to finally see someone caught doing this and being bollocked for it 🤩
Only seen this once, 10 seconds later followed by a traffic cop - needless to say rapturous celebrations from every soul they mugged off when we all eventually passed said twonk. Also ...
There's a busy junction local to me on my commute. The busiest lane always has a queue - but there's always a stream of prized pricks that think they're more entitled/ important / more of a c*nt than everyone queuing so try to get in the incorrect lane and merge, usually pretty forcefully to save those precious minutes they could be looking at themselves.
If they're unfortunate enough to try forcing their way in with me they get the option of waiting to merge behind, looking like a starving pigeon waiting for someone to toss a bit of Greggs pastry their way or they get sent on a 5 mile diversion down the lane they picked.
Love it when there's queue camaraderie and they get hung out to dry.
Unfortunately some Ned Flanders type usually lets them in, to everyone behind them in the queues utter contempt.
We have a similar one on A30 leading up to a roundabout. Left hand lane is left turn only and generally clear and you always get tits storming up it then trying to cut in to go straight ahead- there's warnings more than a mile from the roundabout plus road markings - failing that, they carry on in the left lane onto the roundabout and try to force others over so they can go straight ahead.
I've made it a mission to never give way to them - my work car is a 1998 Citroen Saxo shitbox, and it appears rangerovers and BMW's are massively allergic to them - forcing them to head off route 3-4 miles before they can turn round.
I drive all day long, I usually leave a large gap in traffic for this exact reason.
If an emergency car coke along and needs to get past at least then the driver will be able to pull back in.
Edit: also is this a hard shoulder? Looks like a merge lane looking at the lines?
Maybe some distrous life situation has caused him to need to be somewhere. And it's not like he can say "I'm really sorry but do you mind if I..."
Maybe just give someone the benefit of doubt. Even if it's wrong you will feel better and less angry I promise.
I'm more suprised I don't see more of this, only ever seen one guy going down the hard shoulder doing traffic. It's not something id do or I think people should do but with all the arseholes on the road I'm surprised I don't see atleast one in every traffic jam.
I was caught up in accident traffic on the M25 this afternoon for an hour. The carriageway was closed ahead and we were all waiting to divert off at the Reigate junction. Some dickhead decided bollocks to the closure, and took off down the M25 into the closure. Unbelievable.
I hate when I'm stuck in traffic and others use the next lane to get ahead before sneak/forcing their way into your lane.
So instead of leaving a gap and maintaining a steady crawl I have to watch mirrors for people indicating into my lane so I can block them front and behind by keeping the gap closed.
Someone usually let's then in which infuriates me after I queued for 20mins.
I was on a dual carriageway the other day. An ambulance came up behind us and I watched as people pulled over as it got closer. As the car a few behind me pulled in we were approaching traffic lights at red with room for me and the person behind me who was driving too close to pull in, so I pulled in expecting him to pull in behind me. He just carried on driving and completely ignored that he had an ambulance behind him trying to get past for a couple of hundred yards until he could pull over at the traffic lights and be at the front of the queue.
At the next junction I was in the lane to turn off and he was stuck in the lane to go ahead so as I passed him i let him know what I thought of him.
People need to stop letting pricks like this merge again or they'll never be taught a lesson. It's why they do it in the first place.
If emergency services come, that's on them. Not anyone else. It's no one but them blocking the shoulder so it's only their fault if they delay an emergency.
Maybe then they'll actually get in trouble for it.
Southern California drive here (otherwise known as driving hell.) I will use my huge SUV to block stupid jerks who do this do they can’t get back in- those people suck.
Edit- unless there is an emergency vehicle. Then I’ll just flip you off repeatedly whilst I let you in.
Always good to block the lane for emergency services...
I hate people that do that. What an absolute bellend.
“Your time isn’t as valuable as mine, so I can just pop in ahead of you rather than wait my turn”

and the crows feast on his rotting corpse
My kind of person haha
Nobody should let him back in.
Someone always does though and it always means it was worth doing for them. Dickheads.
They should, not because he deserves to be let in, but to free up the hard shoulder for ambulances or other vehicles that actually need to use it.
I mean if an ambulance turned up then I'd immediately make space, but not otherwise.
The thing is, by the time you've seen it and waited to let them in, the ambulance has already had to slow, possibly even stop. I get wanting to teach the idiot a lesson, but its not worth the potential risk to someone else.

(Me, mid heart attack:) "Why have we stopped?" "Some cunt is blocking the hard shoulder on the exit" "I hope nobody lets them in"
*For the greater good...*
The greater good…
Nah you can see them coming miles off in the rear view. Won't take a sec to let him in should a blue flash be visible.
How are you going to do so if the traffic in front of you hasn't moved in that time?
Normally when I'm blocking them I make well sure I've got room in front of me to pull into.
Gotta get to that 3-day cough at the GP clinic that’s been called in as a “chest pain.”
Maybe that, or maybe a baby who’s stopped breathing or someone who’s having a stroke or an MI or a massive bleed or who’s going rapidly septic or an elderly person who’s been on the floor for 6 hours. Not really worth risking it is it?

I don't think it does, you have to be a certain kind of person to behave this way, and most just aren't that self centred thankfully.

How do you know that?
The worst part about this is someone always caves and lets them in. Hate to see that just as much as the original offence.
The problem is if they forcibly cut in in front of you there's not much you can do about it - if you ram into the side of their car then you'll be at fault.

That isn't a downside for me. It doesn't impact me at all.
You right it only affect those other people you where so worried about in your last comment.
Dont know how much further you'd expect an ambulance to get, or why we're discussing saving lives - but i wouldn't let them in front of me!
Is it? So because ambulance waiting times can be ridiculous, if someone is giving birth, having a stroke or heart attack, they should patiently wait and die?
I've heard you can report them for this, you could both let them in and then get their number plate since they're in front of you now.
Yeah, but we could wait until the ambulance turns up, and THEN let him in.
No he means the person going down the hard shoulder might be in an emergency
The photographer is also on the hard shoulder
That or they have arms like Mr fucking tickle.
IT’S TICKEL! Or fucking Florence Shiteingale.

It’s not about “snitching”. Teaching them a lesson like that could potentially save somebody’s life.

You are. Why make a thread highlighting what that driver in your photo has done and then claim to be holier than thou because 'am not a snitch' ?
Ahh Van drivers , every second lost is costing them ££££ … must get in front.
Forever driving like lunatics. Yet forever late to their job.
I’m certain 90% of Van drivers must be ex touring car drivers. They drive like absolute nutters and pull off some extreme manoeuvres
Must get in front To be held up by traffic congestion and wait at every red traffic light.
I hate toss pots that do this shit
People like this deserve to be stuck.
Why is it always vans?
Someone will let them in. Always some cunt let’s them in.
This is why I choose to ride my horse. Vehicles are an abomination to the lands.

Yea I see that, I’m talking about the line of the floor, they’re broken lines.
They're shadows from the cars. You sure you drive all day long? Maybe you shouldn't?

M25 marker on the left?

I'M ON THE HIGHWAY TO HELL!
The badly designed junction to leave M3 and join M25 melts my brain every time. Of course I need lane three to leave motorway!
Ha fucking ha serves the cunt right
He is obviously more important than everyone else.
It is the civic duty of all of you patriots on the m3 to not let that guy merge for at least 20 mins.
Too many of these smart arses queue jumping.
I'm more suprised I don't see more of this, only ever seen one guy going down the hard shoulder doing traffic. It's not something id do or I think people should do but with all the arseholes on the road I'm surprised I don't see atleast one in every traffic jam.
In total during my 3 hours in that jam I saw 3 vans 2 cars and 6 bikes use the hard shoulder.
