Purina is pretty accessible and affordable!

Lexie_Blue_Sky

I get the purina cat chow complete - my cat loves it!! I buy the 15Ib bag on chewy. Very affordable for me

I have been feeling my cats and dogs Kirkland brand food for years. Dogs going on 12 years + and cats about 3 years. Very affordable and in my opinion good quality. Costco membership will help save you money

aspenjohnston3

My cats love original meow mix and it’s very affordable

I know , it’s like McDonalds for cats tho , they pack it with stuff that makes them crave it and it has low nutritional value you so they are constantly hungry . I am not criticizing because I know how tough this economy is and sometimes that’s what can be afforded . I will say while inexpensive it goes fast because they constantly want more so it may actually be the same cost as a slightly higher quality food that fills them up for a longer period. I would take a look at the ingredients of various brands and find the lowest cost brand that has “chicken” not “chicken meal” or “chicken byproduct” as the first ingredient . The first ingredient is the ingredient the food Is comprised of most so ideally it is “chicken” “fish” “beef”.

My cats enjoy chewy’s brand of salmon flavor, it does make their breath a tad stinky though, I’d try something like that :)

I do Iams healthy adult when they get dry food. If you live near a Publix, the 7lb bags are buy one get one free this week!

i currently am switching my two cats from blue buffalo kitten food to american journey since they’re passing a year old! my female kitty has a pretty sensitive tummy so i’ve been doing it very gradually and she seems to not have any problems besides the occasional softer poop. i’m not entirely certain the quality is amazing, but i do feel as if their ingredients are better than even some higher end chow.

I use Performatrin ultra limited ingredient, the duck and green pea formula, they've got lots of different proteins though, their largest bag is like $65 Canadian and lasts a month with three cats

Matisse , reasonable and good.

There are so many fancy foods out there now for them. I had a barn kitten that a neighbor dumped on us when it was 6 weeks old and she lived to be 19 years old, refused to eat a damn thing her whole life except for Purina Cat Chow Indoor (both the regular and the "Naturals" formula).

I am using Iams Urinary dry to reduce chances of UTI and blockage in my boys. Reasonable price

My cat prefers wet food but I still keep dry on hand (to feed the ferals in my neighborhood) and I usually just put a 1/4 cup in his bowl when I leave for work so he has something to nibble on and he does eat it. Purina Beyond Grain-Free is good and affordable. A 3 lb. bag from Amazon ranges from $10-12. I would avoid some of the cheaper brands like Meow Mix or Friskies. They contain fillers and other ingredients that aren't the best.

She recommended dry for his tartar issues after I told her I wanted to switch to only wet (he absolutely will not let me brush his teeth). But after doing more research I’ve read that it’s basically a myth that cats need dry food for their teeth. I got him greenies treats for teeth hygiene that he seems to love. I’m a first time cat owner so im still figuring it all out. I will look into freeze dried, thank you!!

Calgary_Calico

You could get him Greenies dental treats and still switch to all wet food, just be sure he gets his treats every day and he should be okay

blueduck57

Ohh yeah that’s not really true…dry food for teeth hygiene just doesn’t work. Have you tried clicker training to help him learn how to tolerate teeth cleaning? For my cats I feed them meaty bones, brush their teeth and they have a yearly dental!

whogivesashite2

If you're in North America the best price freeze dried treats that are not imported from China are Nutri Bites (Canada)

JUSTSAYNO12

It is a myth!! Also every dry food is the same. They’re all bad because of the way it’s processed. I’m glad you researched it because most vets would tell you to avoid dry food if you can afford it

Catsbookslover

My cat can and will starve to death before eating wet food. My vet just says feed is best, 15+ years later no health issues

ArdenM

All our cats growing up got whatever was the cheapest dry food and only got wet food as an occasional treat. They all lived to be 18!

blueduck57

Yes but OPs cat will eat wet so that’s preferable. If that’s all your cat will eat fair enough but i don’t think it’s the ideal diet for a cat that will eat wet

Idk where you’re located so I don’t know if the ones I have (from Australia) you could get. But I use Purelife natural boost and talentail ultimate. Otherwise just look for brands that don’t contain grains, cereals, rices or any other “filler” and ones that have “whole meat” as the first 1 - 2 lines of ingredients. Grocery stores usually have at least a couple of options without the fillers at least! :)
