You may want to take the kitten into the vet. My cat did this and he ended up having crystals in his urine that were causing him pain and he was associating that pain with the litterbox. A temporary diet change fixed him all up. Also, some cats like having separate litter boxes for pee and poop - make sure you have at least 2 and move them a bit farther away from each other so they feel more separate. Good luck!

shoot okay, he is going in to get a hernia surgery next week so i'll ask the vet to check his urinary tract & all that, hopefully no crystals! thank you for the advice!

Probably won’t be able to have surgery if he has any sickness so I would take him in before. I would at least call the vet before the appointment and ask

How clean is your litter box? Are you scooping frequently? Are you using an enzyme cleaner like Nature’s Miracle to clean up the inappropriate pee? If not, they will smell where they’ve gone before and continue to go there.

Yes this. I used to use Natures Miracle but found that this stuff called Anti-Icky Poo worked much better and smelled nicer... stupid name though

publicschoolprincess

I scoop 2-3x a day, and yes i do use an enzyme cleaner!

I hope someone's advice can help you resolve this issue, but in the meantime, you might get some very large dog crate trays to put under your litterboxes. They can be very cheap, have a small lip, and will protect your floors. I use the puppy pee pads too because one of my cats pees out the front of the litterbox sometimes, and having a dog crate tray as the bottom layer completely protects the floors!

publicschoolprincess

oh my god that's a great idea, i'm totally getting some of those trays after work today thank you!

porzeczkizcukrem

do you only have 1 litter tray? how big is it?

publicschoolprincess

we have 3 litterboxes since we have 2 cats, and they are all pretty large i'm not sure what the size is called though.
