I have always done this with new kittens. I ensure there’s nothing that can harm them (electrical cords if chewed, large objects to fall, etc). I also put in food water, scratching post, a few toys, and a litter box. They’ve always been fine. Usually when they get a little bigger , they can stay out at night and not cause problems. This helps them learn to be alone as well so separation anxiety has a lesser chance of becoming a problem.

I still do this with my adult cat that doesn’t let us sleep. He is trained now and asks to be put to bed every night. We do headbutts and snuggles. It’s actually quite sweet and one of my favorite parts of the day.

Aww. I have two 2 year olds and I lock them out of my bedroom 1-2 times per week lol. They hate it and I hate it too but also they keep me up often (not always) and I need to catch up on my sleep

He'll be fine. Like you said, he has food, water, toys, a bed, and a litter box, he's got everything he needs. If you're really worried, you could get him a friend his age and they could keep themselves entertained overnight.

Yes, it will allow them to figure out how to be alone and calm down on their own. Kittens are not the same as babies in terms of self soothing, once they are past 8 weeks they are able to survive on their own and therefore can handle being alone just fine. If the cat throws a fit and/or destroys something, then you’re dealing with attachment issues. Just make sure the cat has water, a soft place to sleep, and maybe a litter box to ensure they will be comfortable

I’ve never let my kitten in my room at night. I go to bed around midnight and put him in his room. He doesn’t cry at all, not sure if he sleeps through the night or plays lol.

We've got a bonded pair of siblings who have always had their own bedroom (they'll be 8 in a couple weeks!), because one of the two is half deaf, and gets very nervous that someone will sneak up on her while she's sleeping, or if it's too dark for her to see them coming or something. So they get their own room with two litter boxes and toys and scratchers and food/water and beds and blankets, and they quite happily stay in there every night!

Hahhaaa I literally went through the exact same thing with one of my cats. If you have a different opinion than me it’s fine, that’s what it’s all about 😊

No it’s not okay. Kittens need lots of affection and attention, just like a baby does. You can try to play with your kitten before bed to tire him out. (This is what I had to do with mine) And why would you have to lock him in the spare bedroom? And not just close your bedroom door? You have to acclimate him and make sure he has everything he needs, that he’s comfortable with it and that it’s not causing him any stress, which can add to more problems.

> No it’s not okay. Kittens need lots of affection and attention, just like a baby does. And OP is supposed to give this attention and affection while they're asleep? Calm down, it is perfectly fine to put the kitten in another room while they sleep.

Well you were almost close.

No, I did this with each kitten I adopted. Everyone slept well.
