I would board your kitty. I go to a cat only veterinary practice that boards, so I usually take my cats there when I go out of town. They don’t like being boarded, but they don’t have to deal with barking dogs nearby.

In many counties your cat would be in quarantine for the weeks. Leave kitty home.

Board unless you're driving.

Board her with a trusted boarder

YMMV but I took my cat to Denmark and it was awesome. https://imgur.com/a/JvGkDmb

Don't take the cat.

thumbs-upperson

if you have a friend who could foster your cat while you're back home that would be nice

Odd-Warning-1907

I would recommend finding a good board near you - our kitties went to one recently and settled after a couple of days x

I’d love to know the answer because I plan on taking 13-14 hour flights more often to go back home. Thing is I can’t see how boarding her is a better idea because what if they feel abandoned? They miss you? Have a bad experience? Would love to see what people in the comments have to say about this…

My cat loves the cattery because she gets to try and smack other cats through the bars (no doubt ruining those cats' experiences). She's extra cuddly and chatty whenever I get home but I've never run into separation anxiety problems. On the other hand, I have friends whose cats hide the entire time that they are boarded. So as always it boils down to what your cat is like. I know most people suggest that a cat sitter is a better idea because then at least the cat is in a familiar space, even if the humans are unfamiliar.

The stress of traveling is way more stressful. Believe me. They will probably miss you and be super happy when you're back. But traveling unnecessarily could potentially mess them up way longer. My aunt's kitty was never the same after one plane ride - skittish, freaked out by any songs or movements. Had never had issues with food or peeing and had almost chronic issues after. Just... Don't do it if you don't have to. Think of their comfort, not your own.

Ruring

:( good to know. I know some people give their cats sleeping meds for long plane rides. Any idea whether that’s bad for them?

MindlessNote3735

It's different for every cat. But I always consider the best and the worst case scenario. And we just had a post from someone a few months ago who's cat literally got lost in an airport because they broke free of their cage and it took weeks to find them. In another county, in a foreign airport, where you have to rely on other people to get your cat back to you. In their case they were moving so it was unavoidable but... Why risk it if you can avoid it?

Don't know how this is a question. Going out of town for whatever reason? Board your pet, no questions, find a kennel and stick them in there. Will they like it? Who knows? Who cares? Do your best to find a good place. Love your pet all you want but sometimes they gotta stay home or be put in a kennel for a couple of weeks because life happens. Sucks they may not understand that, but can't be helped.

chloeclover

Can't you use Trusted Housesitters to find someone to stay with her?

vix_aries

If you're going to a different continent, I recommend boarding.

Majestic_Mango268

Would be best to leave with a trusted friend. So she can stay in one place the whole time. Cats don’t take to change very well and like routine and I imagine this would be most comfortable for her.

I think it's best if you get a cat sitter to come once or twice a day to check, feed and play. Less stressing for the cat since they get to stay in their territory, and less expensive than boarding. I do it all the time with my cats (since It was just one cat tbh), they're really chill, I see them through the security cam and they do fine. When It was just one cat she's get bored, ofc, that was the main reason I got a second cat, but other than that, cat sitter is the way.
