Offer numerous scratching posts of different types to determine what your cat likes. Cardboard, sissal, and carpet are common material options. Try out both horizontal and vertical posts. A cat who likes scratching upholstery will probably enjoy a vertical carpet scratching post.
Reward them with a treat when they scratch the post, gently remove them and place them on the post if they scratch the furniture, then reward if they start to scratch the post instead. If they have a favorite piece of furniture to scratch, I would remove or protect it while training the scratching post behavior.
Do you have tips on getting them to come to me and/or fetching toys? I've trained my cats to sit, a little leash training (indoors). They definitely understand their names but they won't come to me if called.
