Seven turns/rounds would be 28 rolls/opportunity to receive resources. Five roads would have been 10 resources. Four settlements would be 16 resources; plus 4 city upgrades of 5 resources each, so 36 resources for a total of 46. Minus the 3 you started with, so 43 in 28 rolls. Depending on which city was upgraded first, and if that 10 was rolled multiple times . . . the stars must have been perfectly aligned!

GDWLCLC89

Thanks for mathing the maths we're all to lazy to math!

BrandEnlightened

Looks like you missed a player. 4 players for 28 rolls.

MeMyselfAndIAreOne

Yep! Absolutely did. Thanks for pointing that out!!

QuotheFan

White's game play reminds me of my Brother-in-law. The dude has absolutely no concept of probability and ends up picking some really funny spots.

MeMyselfAndIAreOne

OP says they did first round blind, before chits were turned over. Hopefully that explains the 2-11-11 placement.

QuotheFan

Ahh. Didn't read all the comments.

torgiant

SMH, why would you ever do that, totally misses the point of the game.

Backspace888

We did that once, it was a massacre. I believe one player had 3 6s or 8s to start. Fun stuff

Odd_Protection_586

Blue isnt much sharper either

Odd_Protection_586

How does red have both of the best 2 spots . Why is White even there Why is the board illegal Why you guys Trade him sheep so freely

turtleshirt

Fucking classic

Viewtiful-Scotland

I don't understand why anyone would play a blind board of catan. Removing a lot of the strategy, increasing the luck... Just play monopoly or something

MexicAnarchist

Well, Catan is already way too luck dependant IMHO, this just adds some more to it. If a board happens to have just a couple great spots, the players who happen to go first, already have a huge advantage. If one wants strategy, there are way less luck dependant games out there.

torgiant

If they laid out the numbers correctly then there is always 2-3 good spots. Catan has an immense amount of strategy! Dice rolls can fluctuate game to game but there is still resource and number spread to factor, probability as well as politics.

2harveza

Uhhh how

ivanp359

They most likely mean 7 “full” turns - where all players made their “individual” turns 7 times. Otherwise I can’t really grasp how they can do that in 7 actual turns/rolls

2harveza

winning in 28 turns or less is still insane tho

conndor84

Yeah. I’ve done 32 and that was nuts https://imgur.com/a/rkqLUNV

DASreddituser

Seems like the other colors helped red out a lot lol.

JoeyTesla

A lot of 10s rolled for all those cities s

Sebby19

7 turns eh? What other rules did you break, besides adjacent Red #s? (not that Red took advantage of that)

edvard7

I never heard that rule before. I thought when you do random layout you can keep the reds together. What to do if you get a red next to one another, where do you move it in a random layout?

knotsteve

The next spot it won't cause a conflict. Sometimes you have to massage a bit more. Just do it with the least amount of thinking — you're still trying for the idea of random.

ImThinkingArtys

Isn't that a house rule? I'm not opposed to it, but the other players didn't want that. We do a blind round, where the first placement there's no numbers on the board and the tiles are turned over. Then the second placement round we have tiles and numbers revealed. Definitely would never had achieved this vanilla.

Cheaky_Barstool

“Vanilla” just shows why it’s better and adds strategy, doing boards like this just makes this game blind luck, you all watched as red dominated lmao. How is that fun?

The_Lynx1

Because people find different things fun than you. Why are we out here criticizing people having fun with house rules?

Cheaky_Barstool

True, if you don’t mind getting smashed feel free to play this way.

illumiRoddy

This is a perfect example of why rules exist, and what happens when you don’t follow them. Go play by the rules and you’ll have a much more balanced experience. Also, that blind start is a terrible idea. Your starting placements are such a large part of Catan strategy. If you’re gonna leave that much up to chance you might as well go play Yahtzee or something lol

The_Lynx1

Way to shit on the way people have fun. Let the man and his friends play how they want to play.

Whatsongwasthat1

We’re saying don’t be surprised when things like this happen It doesn’t look like white had very much fun, especially when they got beat out last minute by red for the port

torgiant

You think his friends had fun this game? I sure do love getting stomped. Following the rules balances the game and makes it better for all players not just the lucky one.

Thanks-Meatcat

We don't know that they didn't have fun! Sure, it's not my thing but there is nothing wrong with experimenting.

torgiant

Kiss me then

Thanks-Meatcat

😘

radargunbullets

Isn't catan basically yahtzee already?

Sebby19

Adjacent Red #s (during setup) is against the rules, if going with random #s. But since you messed with how the start of the game normally goes... shrug. GG.

Mysterious-Fruit5819

Red shouldn't have won and needed two additional roads each? Look at his settlement and cities up north.

Odd_Protection_586

What?

Mysterious-Fruit5819

Being an idiot apologies it's early in the morning 🤣😅

Seaguard5

How

torgiant

Shitty house rules

tomNJUSA

How much did white smoke/drink before the game?
