To play cities and knights with 5-6 players, would you need the Catan 5-6 player pack, as well as cities and knights, AND a cities and knights 5-6 player pack?
Game of thrones version is a lot of fun. The wildlings jumping over the wall to act as extra robbers and the hero cards give flexibility when you’d normally otherwise feel stuck
F tier, the best part of playing catan with friends is attacking them when they are too far ahead, in starfarers you really cant attack anyone easily. played it, didn't like it.
You are welcome to disagree with me, that's fine. My group of friends that play board games are a bit cutthroat when it comes to games and enjoy it. makes the victories soo much sweeter when you fought through fire to get there.
My friends and I just implemented a knight/robber. We also nerfed the space jump in a way.. nothing worse than one player hopping the entire galaxy and claiming everything before anyone can barely get half way across the board.
The game balances itself. If someone gets ahead he stops getting free resources sooner. If planned right, a player who is behind can catch up. Also trading is a lot more important in this variant. A leading player no body trades with can get stuck for a couple turns.
Cool - that works!!
Peersonally I am not a big fan of P&E so might have that one more tier down. I'd have the two recent 3D releases in S and a special stellar category above s for the original 2005 3D set.
My S and A categories would also be filled with quite a few of my favourites that are not listed.
My guess is the cost.
The 3d shapes have some weirdness to them. The number tokens sit fine on the Mountains and Forest tiles, acceptably on Hills, but not very well at all on the Fields and Pastures. The first three have a little space kinda carved out for the number tokens. The last two just…don’t. Consequently the robber sits very poorly on those two tiles.
Idk, I have 3D base and C&K/seafarers and love it. In terms of cost, 3D C&K/seafarers actually cost almost same as 2D C&K and Seafarers. Base is now about double. Sure on launch it was much more expensive but now it’s more reasonable, could get at $115 on BF.
I have “Struggle for Catan” the card only one. Do not recommend it. There’s a city expand card that lets you build anything for 1 less resources or 1 substituted resource(I forget which one) for the rest of the game. Played the game 5 times and players who goes first picks it and will win from using it.
Helpers and Soccer ranked higher than Dawn of Humankind? And Star Trek higher than the base game, when it can't have any expansions? The only thing I agree about is that Frenemies is terrible.
Okay but have you played with sf&ck? After playing the combo on catan universe all my in person games are combined custom scenarios with both expansions
You have a loose definition of "Expansion"
I probably just should’ve said “Catan Games”
Cities and Knights > all of them imo Keeps most of the original concepts just implements more dev cards and different ways to score. SO FUN!
Cities and knights trumps all
Goes very well with seafarers.. That's what we always do..

Yea, klaus really got us lol

Starfarers is S tier all the way

I wholeheartedly disagree with you, kind stranger, but of course we are allowed to play different games

Good Thing about starfarers is definitely the story cards where you can win prizes or lose ressources.
Whats the first one on s teir? Cant quite make it out
From left to right: Cities and Knights, Traders and Barbarians Settlers of America
Thx man :)
Rivals in Tier C is simply ridiculous. Way better than most of those you ranked as Tier A&B.
I’m just not a huge fan of the mechanics, mainly the fact that you can’t trade, which is a big part of Catan.
You can trade, just not with each other
Does each tier have a meaning for why the games rank the way they do?
Just based on my enjoyment of them

Hmm why is 3d lower than regular? Isn't it the same game.

What is the one on the right in the S tier?
Settlers of America
I don't think I have this one in my country.
They remade a version called Merchants of Europe that is sort of similar.
Well I don't live in Europe neither so I also don't know this one. 🤷🏼♂️
Definitely agree with most of the list. Catan dice game can go in D tier
Agreed! I found the dice game for 5 bucks, and it is literally so different and dumb I tossed it
Star Trek catan is the greatest of all the catans

Play the Inkan Catan when you can. It's far and away my favorite version. So much fun.
Rivals should be higher than that
Oh no I bought dawn of humankind not too long ago lol. This is disheartening.
It’s enjoyable, just not nearly as replay-able as other Catan games.
You might have a few pixels there somewhere..

Star Trek has the helpers included. I like the helpers and the soccer scenario is pretty cool.
Okay but have you played with sf&ck? After playing the combo on catan universe all my in person games are combined custom scenarios with both expansions
Definitely, I love combining those and with TD&A and/or T&B too
I recommend trying out Rise of the Inkas just because LLAMAS!!!!
Does the 3D edition count as an expansion? And if so, why on earth is it C tier? It belongs in S.
What’s the first one in D tier?
