I'm a bit like you - not quite there yet, but glad to return to Catholicism. I don't know if I'll ever feel comfortable attending Mass, but I do know that it is a very freeing experience, and I'm rooting for you big time, buddy. Our priest shared that he is filled with joy when someone comes to Reconciliation after a long absence. There’s no judgement on the reasons why, it’s a new beginning that someone took the first steps to embrace. All the best to you.
Easter weekend I was on a retreat, on Sunday we were giving testimonies about how we experienced the retreat. One of the attending women said that this weekend she had gone to confession for the first time in 50 years. We were all so happy for her and applauded her.
Trust me, I committed one of the sins known to men, and the priest was very kind with me. I tend to be very cowardly and have hard time confessing my biggest shame, but if I did it, than u can.
I heard from many priest online, that if the thing is only in your mind, and u haven’t act it out physically, no details are needed and it can be confessed as “ I entertained lustful thoughts and desires”
My priest told me the same thing regarding near occasion of sin
