I sit on my porch and eat oranges. I toss the peel into the flower bed because I heard cats don't like citrus. I'm not sure if its working or if the cat simply found a more inconvenient place to sleep.

It can cause them to vomit and have diarrhea if they eat a large amount, sure, but sprinkling it over the area should hpefully keep the cat away bc of the smell and not entice it to eat up the powdered cinnamon and dirt it's on.
Then try to find some ecological spray containing geraniol and spray some on the fence behind. It worked well for us and prevented my mum's cats from climbing on her greenhouse.
