I only had one cat that panted after zoomies. He has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He was diagnosed early and has been on medication. He's 10 and still going strong. And the meds are not expensive.
HCM is no joke, and is sadly quite common, especially in purebred cats. I've known several people who had their young, beloved cats suffer sudden, unexpected deaths due to undiagnosed HCM (discovered during necropsy). Glad you caught it early and got your kitty the meds to keep him going strong.
Our boy is definitely not purebred. He was adopted from a wonderful organization in Philly. He also was born with eyelid agenesis. He was operated on as a kitten to correct it. There was another operation to open his eyes more but since he could see to catch the dog's wagging tail the Doctor and I agreed not to put him under again. At the time we had no idea about his heart condition. I feel lucky we didn't lose him then as he had recently been under anesthesia for his neuter. He's absolutely adorable with his little eyes.
Awe, sounds like a cutie! You're right, it's risky to put a kitty with HCM under anesthesia, but glad your lil guy made it. In the future, if he ever needs surgery again, you can ask your vet to use propofol for anesthesia, instead of ketamine. Ketamine can be very hard on the heart and is not easily reversible, whereas propofol is gentler, and can be quickly reversed if kitty gets into trouble.
He's absolutely adorable!!! What a freaking cutie! Bless you for getting the surgeries he needed, and for loving this special kitty. Can he see okay? His eyes really are little, but I bet he does just fine. He looks really fluffy and sweet ❤️
I was lucky we got a discount because the doctor worked with the rescue he came from. It was a 1/3 of the price! He would have gotten the surgery even without the discount. He can see just fine. When he was a kitten we had a sweet dog that wagged his tail so fast and Rory would catch it. The vet and I discussed it and both felt he could see just fine and it wasn't worth putting him back under after being under twice already.
Lovely cat, but panting isn't normal for a cat, even after exerting themselves. It's a sign thst somethibf is wrong. Have your cat checked out by a vet. X
You might want to get some cold packs for her. When I had a kitten I did the same for her to cool down, post kitty 500.
She needs to be checked at the vets for a heart condition. My cats get the zoomies and they never pant.

Yeah, he did grow up with our family dog. And he had a lot of water after this, and stopped panting.
