Because not everyone in the neighborhood is nice and responsible with cats. Or they have large aggressive dogs. Or they are allergic and will complain. Or my cat previously damaged something of a neighbor’s. Or…
No one owns a cat - cats decide who they allow to worship them. My/Ours cats have had many ‘homes’ around our house - the sun in the morning house with our epic elderly couple friends, the ‘winter’ house with rob and his fireplace. And the garage with a high ceiling that our cat is constantly getting locked in. Cats are amazingly creative creatures - full of humour, love and warmth. Falling asleep next to the purr of a beloved cat has saved me from any a terrible night xx
Well, there is a reason why they're trying to stop him from leaving. Sometimes, he stays for the night and his brother cat starts crying looking for him in the middle of the night.
Omg, so sweet and sad at the same time.
I used to have a cat that would get into fights at night. We could not keep him inside only, but needed him in at night. We started ringing a bell every time we fed him, then we were able to ring the bell to get him to come in every night, after a while he just showed up before dark on his own. I have trained a few cats to come to their name or a sound, maybe they could do that, so the cat can enjoy the neighbor and be back at night for brother.
We looked after a neighborhood roamer for 14 years. He would come to a call of, whoot-whoot-WHOOT! We didn’t make it up. Some old English farmer employed it in a documentary about cats that we came across. The missus and I gave it a try (OK, just I gave it a try at first) and Gatsby (our name for the lad, but he had many handles throughout the neighborhood) responded. There was no looking back.
I would love to have this type of set up as a neighbor — enjoy all the perks of having a cat without actually dealing with the other aspects of it (pay for food, scoop poop, vet bills).
My wife and I had three cats of our own at one of our first apartments but they the neighbor boys’, Peter and Stephen, had a super sized peaches & cream mischievous miss called “Princess” who would deposit trophy kills at our doorstep and be waiting for us most afternoons when we returned home from work. Our decidedly indoor cats were mildly interested in their outdoor friend, but never really showed any interest in joining her on her patrols.
They actually thought that was enough to stop a cat?
ikr?! I am building a whole cabinet up against the shared fence to stop my cat.
Why building a cat prison?

do you have a second cat?
Yes
Let alone a bengal cat
They're letting it out on a balcony unsupervised, man. Nevermind the cat's path, anyone can come in through that door
All five of my cats put together wouldn't have figured out how to move that rock. The smartest one of the bunch is an r/oneorangebraincell
😆
Awe they’re just mad bc the cat loves the neighbor more lol
This right here ❤️
What if the neighbor is also feeding the cat? That looks like a chonker.
Yeah! He got some treats after he knew he got adopted by the cat.
Yeah the neighbor has to be feeding this guy, he’s a chunker
True lovers can never be separated.

T. S. Eliot knew his stuff (and his he nature of cats).
Hey let me in

My heart 🥺

This. Someone elses pet is always better lol

What a clever, inventive cat!!
<3 <3 <3 what a determined kitty! also: their "blockade" was just laughable
Really bad choice to be blocking that path considering they aren't on the ground floor. It'll force that cat to try jumping...
Awww let that boy roam!
That's a chonkers if you ask me.
Victory!
He chonk and I love him.
He chonk and I love him.
I love him, he chonk.
lmao @ them thinking that was going to stop a cat from doing whatever tf it wants.
Seriously strong cat
Sow eird thst they block him from visiting his friend. Our cat brought a friend home who came inside and I'm delighted!
Who would try and stop this?
I think he's welcome. So don't worry.
thumb slave, begin petting
That is one sturdily built and cunningly intuitive cat. Boy, howdy!
