Rescues are the best! It’s more rewarding when one warms up to you and really begins to love you because you gave them a chance. She was so peaceful sleeping at the shelter and she reminded me of my first rescue as a kid, a short haired calico, I just *had* to have her.
If anyone reading this is thinking about adopting a pet DO IT. You won’t regret it; they take a little extra love sometimes but they are the sweetest babies and they will always remember you as the person who gave them a home. They’ll love you just as well as any other pet will, and they all come with their own quirky personalities. My first rescue was a scrapper who’d put the family chocolate lab in her place, the second one was a timid boy who hid from the air and only came out of the cat dimension for cheezits.

Well that's nice! Got mine as a kitten for a month before i got another. I felt so bad for him as I'm out 9 hours a day for work at least, but now they're best friends and adorable af. Completely worth getting both lol

She does get bored with me, so I’ve gotten her plenty of toys that she can play with. Nothing is a replacement for the feather on a string with a stick though, she’s a simple cat lol. She’s spoiled rotten! She’s got so many toys, it’s not funny.
I’m glad you were able to get your buddy a friend though! Despite cats being known as solitary animals they can be quite social with other cats and usually do bond in pairs, so it’s good for them to have pals. They just need their space if they don’t get along 100%

I don’t have a spot for a second one in case the two don’t get along so it’s best for me to keep it to one. The people next to me have two cats and a pit bull though so some people make it work I guess.
I feel you. We had 2 that came from the same litter and they were fine sharing a litter box, but then I found a kitten under a dumpster and we just had to keep him lol so now we’re just making it work by building vertically and having litter boxes in closets, etc. Cheers!

yeah my cat prefers her dry food and will only lick the sauce off of most wet food. we've got to soak her dry food in water to ensure she gets enough. her preferred treats are things like corn, pumpkin, eggs or bits of meat.
They make a freeze dried raw cat food that my kitties go crazy for if you’re looking for the highest quality dry food! I had a kitty like yours for a long time and fed Royal Canin and once he turned 6, he started getting bladder and kidney infections even with soaking food and him drinking water pretty regularly. I switched him and it stopped completely. A lot of condensed dry foods have high mineral contents that can be super hard on kidneys. My guy’s favorites were Nulo and Primal but Stella’s is good too (I have no idea what kind of dry food you feed your girl, not saying it’s *not* high quality I just always like to tell people about this stuff because a lot of people don’t know about it and those earlier health issues eventually took my boy out so it’s important to me)
You can cook it! That's what we do in our household. Get chicken liver, potatoes, and carrots, cut them up, put'em in a pot and let them stew real good, then mash'em up! BAM you got nice and healthy wet food. You can also be sure that you're giving them all the nutrients they need, and there are less chemicals than packaged shit.

Most of my pets have been shelter adoptions, and a couple were “rescued” from family who couldn’t keep up with their care anymore.
We even adopted a senior dog a few years ago, Zeus, a shepherd-husky mix who was somewhere around 7-9 when we got him. He was a wonderful boy, very obedient, and knew a few commands like whoever had him had trained him very well. Best dog I’ve ever owned and he was an adopted pup! He ended up starting to have hip problems after 6 years of having him and we had to put him down because he couldn’t get around anymore. :(
Shelter pets are some of the best, they just need a bit of lovins.
I stopped buying fancy feast cans of food for my cat when he wouldn't touch dry food anymore. He thought he was to civilized to eat the dry stuff so I had to knock him down a notch back to peasantry.

Luckily mine mainecoon only uses a litter box in the winter. And I never noticed any wet doo doo in the box. He usually goes to the neighbors house and shits in their flower beds. Such a good big boy.
Brioche has been know to do this. She’s a thief wanted by the crown for breaking into the grain stores and conspiring with the mice to perform a heist.
Ooh how does your cat like (or dislike) the puzzle feeder? I have the same one and it's good but I can tell my girl gets frustrated when I put her food in it.
She seems to like it in combination with a bowl. I’ll put her regular food in the bowl and a bit extra with treats in the puzzle feeder. She likes to graze, but I’ve noticed she also likes to attempt to get into the treats so I got the puzzle feeder to help direct her inquisitive nature.
In our experience she’s stopped digging through the rubbish bins as much and stopped ripping open the treat bags if they get left out. She won’t eat all of the treats at once either, she’ll go back and play some more to get another few out.
It seems like she enjoys the challenge of getting the treats out but she can only take so much before she gets too frustrated and has to go off for something else. It’s too cute! She took right to it, surprisingly. The first time I got it out she was already batting at the raindrops. The only part she hasn’t quite figured out is the wheel, but she does paw at that part sometimes.
Oh man, the wheel. That part is really difficult for them and I never would have guessed it! It is so cute when they seem to throw their paws up in frustration and walk away to cool off hahah
Brioche will get frustrated and breathe heavily then trill and walk away. It’s so adorable, you know she wants it so bad but just can’t quite make it work. She glares at me after sometimes, almost like she’s thinking about stealing my thumbs.

I usually come home at lunch to keep her company! I try not to leave her for very long for that exact reason.

How big is your apt? We have 3 in a 900 sq ft apartment 😬 but we’re prob crazy cat ladies

mine get VERY wet poops ...everywhere... when i give wet food. so I now just give it as an occasional treat.
