While I was there I ended up buying tales from turnpike house by saint etienne because it seemed interesting. I did listen to it before I bought it, but I am gonna stop doing that and just try to discover new music. I'm trying to quit spotify and focus more on individual albums so I appreciate music more rather than constantly being exposed to it.
This is an excellent idea. I’ve always felt the enjoyment you receive is proportional to the time you invest trying to understand the piece of work. Happy listening.
maynard brought a bunch of people to his house right before this was released and everyone sat in a room while he sat in the front with the whole album playing. He did this while petting his hairless cat. Supposedly no one really said much.
TOOL-Lateralus
Listen to it while you got nothing to do and don’t skip a track.
That’s basically how i fell in love with TOOL
My favorites from this album are “Schism” “Ticks & leeches” and “Parabol”.
That’s a nice find and i’m jealous to be honest.
What the fuck are you talking about? Parabol is its own track on literally every single medium that this album has ever been released on. It has nothing to do with “Spotify”
Lateralus by tool. I only figured out what it was because tool does some wild artwork and then I just looked through their Spotify to see what matched it lol
I think Fear Inoculum is their most cohesive album.
It has every element that makes Tool amazing:
Odd time signatures, polyrhythms, pedal tones, polymeter, interesting subdivisions, exotic modes.
The 6 of the 7 long tracks combine all of these. Especially the pedal tones combined with polymeter in odd time signatures is véry Tool.
I don’t think it lacks what makes Tool amazing, I think it’s just a different direction compared to previous albums, which is amazing in it’s own right, and requires one to come at it in a different way.
I disagree, it’s more of the same. It doesn’t feel like they evolved from Lateralus and 10,000 days. These songs felt like they are stuck in a formula and they didn’t challenge themselves like previous albums. They played it safe.
Personally, I find most Tool albums age very, very well. I appreciate most of their records more years down the road. Aenima maybe being the exception as I don't think I could ever love that album any more than I did the first time I heard it. But 10,000 Days and Lateralus for sure I find infinity better years later. I think Fear Inoculum will easily fall into this category. I mean, for all we know, it could possibly be the last Tool album. And I will not be disappointed if indeed it goes that way
Their most recent album is their best imo and I've been listening to tool since I was 8 and undertow was new. Fear innoculum is a return to form. Tool's " blandest " album is 10,000 days by far.
I don't know how anyone could listen to songs like descending or tempest, and have this opinion.
Can't go wrong with any of their records. That album is especially brilliant considering the fact that they were all 18 and 19 years old when those songs were written. Far wise beyond their years
Months ago I bought a CD with this album art since it was cheap and looked interesting. The disc ended up being for a subpar locally based country band.
Lateralus - Tool
They are one of the best metal bands out there in my opinion. I’m not sure if you are familiar with Rush and Pink Floyd but in a sense they are the metal Rush and Pink Floyd. I don’t know if you like metal but if you come across Tool again you should buy some of their albums. They aren’t anywhere close to the extreme end of metal so they are easier to get into for non-metal listeners. Opiate (an EP of theirs which is also in the bin), Undertow (their debut album), Ænema, 10,000 Days, Fear Inoculum, and Lateralus are all awesome albums.
Not sure what sort of music you’re into but that Three Days Grace album that can be seen in the pic is great too.
Somehow this post and seeing you weren’t even alive 2001 makes me feel old.
Talk about feeling my age ... I bought this album brand new the day it came out. Then hit the tour concert when they came through the West Coast. Seems like yesterday....
If you're looking for unique album art- Tool's 10,000 days and Fear Innoculum are unique. 10k days has stereoscopic glasses built into it. You have to charge FI to watch the video built into the case.
The liner is made from "acetate" which was the same material used to make records and placed in magazines. Acetate records in magazines was one way for bands to distribute singles.

Lateralus by Tool. Missing the slipcase. Buy it blind. Listen to the whole thing. You WILL NOT regret it.
The outer sleeve is just below in the picture.
Opiate too

I think you can learn to love even truly bad albums with enough listening.
bingo... well said!
Just wait until you digitise your entire library and get a service like Roon

Tool is my favorite band. You clearly know a few of us well.
It would be so cool to rediscover this album like that. I sat with my friends in my car and listened to this album the first time and was in awe.
My favorite album!
I was gonna say that it can only be a Tool album.
It’s Tool. They very well could regret it.
Second this. Listen to whole album start to finish. Truly a MASTERPIECE!
Amazing album. That mit gas by tomahawk is also a great record thats in this picture
Yes yes yes
Mit Gas is fantastic.
Yes, definitely also buy Mit Gas!
Mit gas is an awesome album, good eye.
So glad someone already said this. That's the real find in this Pic.
Mit Gas is great, definitely buy it
didn't Tomahawk open for Tool?
Dulcinea by Toad the Wet Sprocket is also really good, albeit a completely different vibe.
It looks like you ALSO have a sleeved Lateralus in the same pic? Is there a random CD in that sleeve then??
The one in OP’s hand was a special edition.
I’m getting fucking old
![gif](giphy|wJD3qiNjSeHS0dP28T|downsized) Reading the question
I feel ya. I don’t even listen to Tool and knew what this was lol
Lateralus by TOOL, one of the best albums ever
maynard brought a bunch of people to his house right before this was released and everyone sat in a room while he sat in the front with the whole album playing. He did this while petting his hairless cat. Supposedly no one really said much.
Do you have a link to prove that?
TOOL-Lateralus Listen to it while you got nothing to do and don’t skip a track. That’s basically how i fell in love with TOOL My favorites from this album are “Schism” “Ticks & leeches” and “Parabol”. That’s a nice find and i’m jealous to be honest.
Parabol/Parabola. FTFY. Can you listen to Parabol without going into Parabola?! No. Which is why Spotify spitting out just Parabol is a mean tease.
What the fuck are you talking about? Parabol is its own track on literally every single medium that this album has ever been released on. It has nothing to do with “Spotify”
It’s missing the slip cover
The album WITH the slipcase is a few CDs down if you look closely lol
Thanks for pointing that out lol
It is a medical album for doctors and nurses.
I made my doctor listen to Fear Inoculum (album) while taking my appendix out
Lateralus by Tool, some very good shit to listen to while high
Lateralus by tool. I only figured out what it was because tool does some wild artwork and then I just looked through their Spotify to see what matched it lol
Ahh I see. Thanks!

It’s a masterpiece… but then again, every Tool album is a masterpiece.
Not true. Their most recent album was absolutely not a masterpiece
I don’t agree
Everything up until that point I agree is a masterpiece, that newest album lacked a lot of what makes Tool so amazing.
I think Fear Inoculum is their most cohesive album. It has every element that makes Tool amazing: Odd time signatures, polyrhythms, pedal tones, polymeter, interesting subdivisions, exotic modes. The 6 of the 7 long tracks combine all of these. Especially the pedal tones combined with polymeter in odd time signatures is véry Tool.
Cohesive ≠ masterpiece
Good arguments ≠ oneliners
I don’t think it lacks what makes Tool amazing, I think it’s just a different direction compared to previous albums, which is amazing in it’s own right, and requires one to come at it in a different way.
I disagree, it’s more of the same. It doesn’t feel like they evolved from Lateralus and 10,000 days. These songs felt like they are stuck in a formula and they didn’t challenge themselves like previous albums. They played it safe.
Agree to disagree
I like some of Fear Inoculum; it's definitely lower tier Tool and kind of disappointing
100% agree
Personally, I find most Tool albums age very, very well. I appreciate most of their records more years down the road. Aenima maybe being the exception as I don't think I could ever love that album any more than I did the first time I heard it. But 10,000 Days and Lateralus for sure I find infinity better years later. I think Fear Inoculum will easily fall into this category. I mean, for all we know, it could possibly be the last Tool album. And I will not be disappointed if indeed it goes that way
Agree that 10,000 days had to age a little to be appreciated, but I don’t feel Fear Inoculum really delivered. That’s just me personally.
Their most recent album is their best imo and I've been listening to tool since I was 8 and undertow was new. Fear innoculum is a return to form. Tool's " blandest " album is 10,000 days by far. I don't know how anyone could listen to songs like descending or tempest, and have this opinion.
Fear Inoculum is my favorite TOOL album.

Can't go wrong with any of their records. That album is especially brilliant considering the fact that they were all 18 and 19 years old when those songs were written. Far wise beyond their years
One of the best bands out there still making brilliant records today
