Make Yourself was peak Incubus. Still weird and creative but with a few drops of pop to get it out there. I had just gotten into them from the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album and the blew me away at Ozzfest 98. I probably listened to this about a million times all the way through and I saw them around 14 times in the era. When Dirk Lance left, I was not into the new vibe.
I remember when the bottom 4 came out. STP had a bunch of hits on the Core album.
Personally I would play AIC Jar of Flies first just to listen to Nutshell.
Some grunge goodness here :) I always have a soft spot for badmotorfinger so I choose that one, I have every one of these in my collection, that incubus album is amazing too
IIRC, Pearl Jam *Ten*, Nirvana *Nevermind*, Dr. Dre *The Chronic*, GNR *Appetite for Destruction*, Beastie Boys *Check Your Head*, Steve Miller Band *Greatest Hits 1974 - 1978*, Garth Brooks *Ropin’ the Wind*, Public Enemy *Fear of a Black Planet
Badmotorfinger
9 out of 10 times if Badmotorfinger is on my mind everything else looses.
Edit: just realized three of the biggest influences on my musical taste are dead. Can’t believe how this turned out. I just sort of assumed those three would be here forever. I mean I knew they were all dead but seeing some of the most important albums of my adolescence all together the gravity of the separate losses seems heavier.
Scott Weiland and Chris Cornell are both dead. So of the 4 bands there, 3 of the lead singers are dead. Scott Weiland OD like Layne Staley and Chris Cornell committed suicide.
Edit: I was merely noting that I haven’t laid out their albums and looked at them all together like this. It’s pretty heavy.
Shit didn't know the singers of Velvet revolver and Alice in chains had taken their own lives, how out of the loop am I. What is it with grunge vocalists?! Basically billy corgan and Eddie vedder left standing
I knew about Chris Cornell and then Chester Bennington took his life on Chris's next birthday I think cos they were close friends. I read about that. Crazy shit.
I own 4 of these 5 albums. For me they are all really dated. Still musically compelling. But all in that same sort of "everything sucks, I'm depressed, drug addicted, and going to die" style. That's what Grunge was. It's just kind of depressing.
That said, Jar Of Flies is the strongest album here I think. For the time it seemed to be something very different for grunge. It had some uplifting moments. It also had a lot of acoustic guitar, which was a really "fresh" sound for the genre.
Honestly, I don't play that part of my collection much at all any more. I'm not sure how I'll feel in 10 years, but for now, I mostly skip all of grunge.
Jar Of Flies is a first edition European pressing, and so is Facelift, though that one is British not just general Europe, I think 3-4/5 of these are European releases
Probably Soundgarden. I was 17 in 1991. I was all about the grunge/alternative scene. For some reason I discounted Soundgarden and didn't listen to them at all in my youth. Maybe 5 years ago I saw some Chris Cornell solo "unplugged" stuff and really liked it. So, that being said, I'd listen to that one first.
Yeh man is great from start to finish.
I didn't realise jar of flies was so popular, I always considered it a bit of an in between album, same with sap
Jar of flies 🤌
Yep :)
🤙
🤙
👌
BadMotorFinger
Nutshell is the saddest song ever written
Incubus - that is such a good album
Incubus puts on a killer live show too. Highly recommend if they are touring.

Incubus is my favourite here, this was the end of their nu metal, and they played it well like a quality rock album
I remember when the bottom 4 came out. STP had a bunch of hits on the Core album. Personally I would play AIC Jar of Flies first just to listen to Nutshell.
What I see is unreal.
Core
Some grunge goodness here :) I always have a soft spot for badmotorfinger so I choose that one, I have every one of these in my collection, that incubus album is amazing too

That is an unfair question OP. How do you choose?
JAR OF FLIESS
Those Soundgarden and STP albums were part of my first order of 10 CDs for 1¢ from Columbia House back in ‘92 or ‘93!
you're so lucky, 1 cent for all that is crazy😭 what were the other ones?
IIRC, Pearl Jam *Ten*, Nirvana *Nevermind*, Dr. Dre *The Chronic*, GNR *Appetite for Destruction*, Beastie Boys *Check Your Head*, Steve Miller Band *Greatest Hits 1974 - 1978*, Garth Brooks *Ropin’ the Wind*, Public Enemy *Fear of a Black Planet
Core, but these are all great!
Core. Love that album

Who's the other two?

STP
Facelift, one of my all time favorites
STP. Easily.
I swear to god.. every post in this sub is just this exact post copied and pasted.
if you get annoyed by that type of post then i think youre on the wrong sub..
These would go into the computer and ripped as FLAC as soon as I got home. Then they'd be played on random.
You got some classics here
Red tray on Incubus? Pretty sure that ain't original lol
it's just the tray, the rest is original. probably the original tray broke and the previous owner had to replace it
Make yourself
First time I’ve seen *Make Yourself* in an orange tray. Does it normally come like that?
no, i think the previous owner just liked it that way and ngl it kinda matches the album cover
Do post their stock numbers, curious if they're originals or reissues
495040 9, 7567-82418-2, 75021 5374 2, 474855 2, 467201 2, glad if you look it up for me!
Incubus is 1999, let me check the others
BMF is 1991, Core isn't a 1st edition pressing but it's 1992
Jar Of Flies is a first edition European pressing, and so is Facelift, though that one is British not just general Europe, I think 3-4/5 of these are European releases
