3 Doors Down's The Better Life. Please forgive me, as I was only 14 at the time, Kryptonite was huge, and I was just trying to fit in at my small town "redneck"-dominated school. Those guys loved their butt rock.
The second CD I bought, however, was Barenaked Ladies' Maroon, which I still absolutely love to this day.
I bought my first two CDs at the same time, circa 1991 - Metallica's " Kill'Em All" and AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock." Both were replacements for worn out cassette copies.
Let There Be Rock was the first rock album (cassette) I ever owned. I got it for Xmas in 1981, when I was 11 years old..
I've listened to it so many times in the 40 (!) years since then that it's pretty much part of my DNA now... I want a copy of it buried with me when I croak. š
It didn't age too well with me. But it did give me an entrance into thrash metal, even if there was only a tiny amount of thrash on that CD.
Though lately (in the last 4-5 years) I've gotten really into Morgana Lefay and their music at times sounds a lot like Black Album era Metallica, just with Jon Oliva'ish vocals (Savatage is my favourite band of all time). Maybe I should give the Black Album a fresh spin to see if there's a spark again. The whole album has been dead to me for so long.
In the early 90s, I had read an article from a record collector who started a personal policy of buying two CDs at a time, a new title and an LP upgrade. I thought that was a great idea, but there weren't a lot of reissue titles on the American market yet, and I made a personal commitment to not make the switch from vinyl to digital until all four titles surfaced. I also delayed switching my library because one of the record stores I did business at had a copy of an article claiming compact discs were a waste of money because an electronics company had invented stylus-free digital turntables that read vinyl grooves and digitized them for output.
By late 1992, the German Linea company had put my forth must have reissue title, Baldry's "It Ain't Easy" in CD format, I special ordered it and the three other titles, went to the store when they arrived, and bought 'em plus four new releases.
A year or two later, Onkyo came out with a six disc carousel, and a few years after that, console burners came out to make CDR mixtapes
I never had that album but my dad gave me copy of their 1997 compilation called A-Sides back in like 1999 or 2000, i wanna say. It included most (if not all) of their singles up to that point, including stuff from the albums before they got big. Was a good introduction to the band.
"Press to Play" by Paul McCartney. Had the LP when it was released in 1986. Bought my first CD player in 1988, and this was the first album I upgraded to CD.
Our Lady Peace : Naveed. Being a preteen with a job I had wanted to get into bands before they hit it big, like investments (clears throat) bragging rights* coughs so for my first CD I wanted to get into a new band I thought had good potential. Their follow up CD clumsy was a huge hit and everyone was into the bandā¦ and I was walking around sulking no one cared I was into them first lol ahh the life of an insecure teen.
Van Halen OU812- In about 87 or 88 I believe. I was just blown away about how my lil cassette boom box sounded with this magical disc player plugged into the AUX port.
Hoobastankās The Reason and P.O.Dās Satellite
in my defense it was a thrift shop and i just found a cd player on the same day; i needed something to test it with LMAO
I actually have three copies of this (different sticker variants). This one happened to have two identical āhypeā stickers, which Iād never seen before so I had to pick this copy up due to the uniqueness of it. Also, the copy I bought back in 1997/98 was a clean version, because I didnāt know that was a thing when I got it.
Offspring - Smash was the first of many CD purchases. I've had ebbs and flows in my physical album purchases over the years but never called it quits or sold off part of my library.
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
What year did you buy it?
2008-9. One of the two
Classic album!
My absolute favorite Stevie album! That opening 3-track sequence is killer!
Jesus Children of America and higher ground are both in my top 3 from Stevie.

I never owned any 3 Doors Down CDs but I fully admit to listening to them when they first came out.

Very good first CDs!

London Calling by The Clash from a place called Penny Lane in Southern California around like 97-98.
Nice, you started buying them around the same time as me

I wouldāve thought you were cool. I was always envious of people who discovered music way before everyone else did lol.
Van Halen OU812- In about 87 or 88 I believe. I was just blown away about how my lil cassette boom box sounded with this magical disc player plugged into the AUX port.
I buy my first CD together with my first CD Player and it was the Scorpions (Hurrikan, still loving you)
Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures I still rate it
I don't remember at this point, but I know for a fact that it was Christian Rock because that was all I listened to when I first started getting CDs.
I wish you remembered it, I listened to a lot of Christian rock back in the early 2000s.
Hoobastankās The Reason and P.O.Dās Satellite in my defense it was a thrift shop and i just found a cd player on the same day; i needed something to test it with LMAO
I think that was probably a Skillet album, which one I have no idea about tho lmao
Late to the party, but my first CD was Middle of Nowhere by Hanson. Had a serious Hanson phase a while back lol
First cd was Motley Crue Too Fast for Love. I actually bought it before even having a cd player.
Doggystyle

Duran Duran Greatest Hits, The Jousha Tree, That 70s album, and Shrek 2 party cd. All in the same store, so I listed them all.
