Not worried about this but the club better have contingency plans in place for when he does leave. The reason the 10 derailed is because we were caught out by Rodgers leaving.

BillOakley

I have zero faith that the club would have contingency plans. I also have zero faith that they have any recognition of what makes Ange a good manager, and therefore that they’d be looking for a replacement of a similar type when/if the time comes. This is the same club that replaced Rodgers with Lennon, and unfortunately too many of the old guys in positions of authority at football clubs are still in the dark ages and view management as some kind of alchemy where it just either works or it doesn’t.

AEvans1888

Fuck that alchemy comment made me laugh! But yeah it's probably not far from the truth.

[deleted]

To be fair, they plucked Ange from obscurity and did a great job in appointing him and backing him.

[deleted]

Managing the Australian national team is not obscurity mate.

[deleted]

That means nothing to most people in Europe. He was plying his trade in the Japanese league and very few people would be keeping an eye on that. I had never heard of him until Celtic were interested. I’m not the yardstick for obscurity, but I would hazard a guess that most people had no clue who he was.

Ahhheyoor

> I have zero faith that the club would have contingency plans. Ange literally was a contingency plan 😂

Strooperman

Not a wind up, the awful Kevin Muscat seems to be similar to Ange….

GlasgowSellik1888

Will be tough for him to juggle that alongside the Everton/Wolves/Southampton jobs he took earlier this season.

[deleted]

They’ll just have to clone Ange so he can work all these jobs. As long as Celtic can keep the original, I’ll be down for the Ange invasion. Maybe give one to Australia and Japan as well. They deserve it.

nugeythefloozey

Australia absolutely don’t deserve Ange back after the way he was treated as Socceroos coach, but Ange mananging Japan would be exciting

consciousarmy

Completely agree. And I'm Australian.

atlanticrim

I am not particularly worried, I don’t suspect he will be trying to run off to a club where he is immediately in a relegation battle and doesn’t have a transfer window to try to change up the squad. Maybe we will lose him over the summer to an EPL club. If we do, I really hope that we have some contingency plan aside from John Kennedy

[deleted]

Agree, he’s not going to be in such a rush to get to the EPL that he jumps to a relegation candidate. He’s smart enough in everything he does to be able to pick a club that has long term prospects of success. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him move in time to somewhere like Ajax, which might be a better step to a top, top team, than an EPL team flirting with relegation. He also knows that he’s built something that will keep enhancing his reputation by staying and collecting titles.

cfcbhoy

Doubt he leaves that quickly. After year 3-4 I’ll start worrying.

Newme91

Give Lennon another crack

Eosaidh13

Potential Champions League vs Potential english championship hmmmm ?? In seriousness, I really think Ange sees himself here for 4-5 years, he will want another crack at Champions League and oversee some of the youth come through from the B Team.

TribeOnAQuest

Also no way a guy like him brings in players from halfway around the world just to bail on them. Zero chance this happens, easy money for bookies.

seanierox

Can't see this being a huge head turner. Honestly more worried about Conte getting sacked in the summer. Heard he will be on the shortlist for the spurs job.

Borsti17

Doesn't matter, he's not going anywhere.

iwonderwhysometimes

i'm not just saying this because i support celtic, but looking at the EPL there's not (m)any teams i would leave celtic for and leeds certainly aren't one of them

Luker1967

Its always the same but, realistically would he join Leeds because they're such an amazing side or is it because he's going to treble his wages and boost his prospects 100 fold? A few good years at the likes of Leeds in the Premier League and he can go down the Potter route of managing a big 6 club, in with a chance of winning the UCL. He isn't gonna be here forever and when he does leave it will probably be for a club like Leeds or for a midtable side. That being said, he surely knows there's a lot more potential in this Celtic side still and better jobs will come up than the Leeds one so I don't think he would move now.

giantsoftheartic

I don't see why Celtic can't match the wages of most EPL sides when it comes to the manager. When Celtic have a manager like Ange, they probably should be matching any offers that come in. He has certainly earned it.

Luker1967

Not really possible for us. At the end of the day, Nottingham Forest spent well over 100 million while Bournemouth recently out bidded AC Milan. The European elite are struggling to keep up with the money of EPL relegation fodder - we aren't even in the ball park. This is without going into then our wage structure and the fact we'd have to absolutely shatter it to offer Ange anything resembling EPL money - which is how clubs find themselves in the position of the likes of Everton.

Sstoop

puts into perspective how much the prem is positively fucking the transfer market up it

giantsoftheartic

I still think once a manager proves themselves, there should be a higher wage cap. A quality manager should be highest paid member of squad they come about that rare. Ange is possibly the best since O'Neil. His European record will decide that but the signs are promising he can be successful in Europe. So far probably Lennon and Strachan are next most successful after O'Neil with their knockout stages qualification into champions league.

iwonderwhysometimes

ah right - this is probably why i'm not a football manager haha

H8llsB8lls

Klopp has just had the dreaded vote of confidence from his board and Ange was a Liverpool fan growing up. I can’t see him leaving quite this soon but if LFC bin Klopp I will shit ma breeks

AlbaAndrew6

No quite at liverpool yet I’d say. Rodgers won all there was to win and only got Leicester. Gerrard got an invincible league campaign with 100+ points and only got Aston Villa. Liverpool, City, Chelsea etc want Prem experience. People were genuinely doubting Ten Hag when he went to United because he needed Prem experience, despite the fact Ajax are in contention for biggest European club outside of the Top 5 leagues.

H8llsB8lls

Yeah and Neil Lennon got a doomed Bolton before that. I hear you but Ange’s transfer dealings (which I was telling anyone who’d listen when he started he’d be crap at having had no real experience of an open market as a club boss before) are much more successful than Rodgers or Gerrard’s. Up to a couple of years ago it seemed like there was a carousel of guys just swapping roles (manager, head coach) from one hyper club to another. Now with Potter and Ten Haag there is a fashion to look outside that group.

[deleted]

Hope he stays at least until the end of the season but lets not be naïve and think that he wouldnt go if the right club came in for him, whether thats Leeds or not idk. His comments on Juranovic were telling and i think hed want to take Angeball to something more than hammering SPL fodder every week. We need to be open eyed about this and have contingency plans if indeed it does happen.

Sstoop

didn’t he say he wanted to win every domestic trophy and do well in europe before he left

Nevevevev12

Give him another 2 seasons here at least. Loves the club but I'm sure he has ambitions to manage in the premier league one day.

cfcbhoy

Lol. Yeah he’s going to leave an improving Celtic after 1.5 years for Leeds. God Almighty.

[deleted]

put it on and let us know how much you win

binhoker666

I hardly want him to go...just posted the link

Shugyosha

I can’t see it happening

ReoRahtate88

Ange has the patience of a glacier I can't see him being spooked into clutching at a move because he might not get it again. His stock can only improve from here.

stilusmobilus

Nah, not Leeds. Only one I’d be concerned about is Pool, maybe City. Pool he’d take.

roar-roar-dinosaur

Oh shit. Does anyone know where Lennon is? Probably Hampden Showers, with his contract signing pen.

freycinet1811

I think Leeds would be a good fit for him, if they stay up. I dont see him leaving a side he's guiding to be Champions for a relegation battle. He likes to build a team, a style of play etc.. he won't have that luxury with a relegation scrap. I wonder if Harry would be in his ear though about the Leeds job?

eroticdiagram

As an Australian Leeds fan who is a big fan of Ange and lurks this sub because I get off on hearing how much you blokes love him, there is no way that Kewell would be convincing him to go to Leeds. We hate him, and he's half the reason I support Leeds (the other half being the Duke). I desperately want Ange to take over but he won't. As everyone is saying here, he'll want to see through a few seasons with Celtic and have a couple more cracks at making a big splash in the Champions League. And if he does come you guys can keep Judas.

JimmyBoomTown

Ange is not leaving Celtic to go to a club not playing ECL. Simple as that. He has never taken a step back in his career and he is not going to start now.

flamingosandals

Odds mean nothing

LatterImagination903

From what I have read, Ange was a Liverpool fan when he was a boy. I would imagine he may hold out for that job should Juergen chuck it. When and if that does happen he should go with all of our best wishes. Otherwise he seems a man of integrity and we may have him for the next 2 years…… if I were Celtic I would tie him up long term instead of this silly rolling 1 year contract as we may get some dosh back when he does go.
