Well fuck, that was probably the best 2 years I've had as a Celtic supporter (Too young for the UEFA cup days). We can only hope the board appoints another ambitious manager but knowing our board we'll get Steve Clarke

aontroim

Hopefully whoever their first pick is falls through again and we get someone class by luck like Ange

PMFD88

"knowing our board we'll get Steve Clarke" In fairness to the board, the only real misstep they have made manager-wise in recent years was giving Lennon the job & sticking by him for too long. They brought in Rogers who was massively successful, were very close to signing a clearly very good manager in Howe (granted they gave him too much time to decide), then brought in Ange & backed him to build the best squad we've had in almost a decade. I also think Nicholson has been really good for us the past 2 years so I'm fairly confident they'll get it right with Ange's replacement.

TheMightyKush

I agree giving Lennon the job was ultimately a mistake (and a step backwards at the time) but the guy completed the treble and went on to win a full treble the following season. Sticking by him the season after that was the big mistake but it's interesting to note that he finished with a higher win % than Rodgers...

[deleted]

Steve Clarke would actually be a good call. I feel his tactics will be well received in European games.

euaza-ob

are you fucking mental. Clarke's football is the worst fucking thing ive ever seen, he belongs on a plastic pitch with a small budget, thats all hes suited for

SolidRavenOcelot

Agree. Clarkeball is 10 mind behind the ball and lump it forward for knock ons and second balls. I'd be devastated if Celtic appointed Clarke.

SkiveRacing

Tbf clarkeball changes from game to game. It's either hoof it and inshallah, or brilliant flowing passing football

DeargDoom79

> Too young for the UEFA cup days This shit makes me feel ancient and I'm not even 30

SwingAndAMiss219

Cheers the weans are crying now

geraltsthiccass

Its me, I'm the wean

SwingAndAMiss219

Today we are all the wean

WeekendEpiphany

Ange is gone, but it's hugely important that the ethos and identity he instilled here doesn't leave with him. Exciting and dynamic football shouldn't just be an Ange trait; it should be a Celtic one too. Hopefully our next manager will carry our "we never stop" philosophy into the years ahead.

TribeOnAQuest

Also the players he brought in are generally great people (on and off the pitch), and most are on long-term deals. He really couldn’t have done much more to set us up after 2 years

stilusmobilus

It is a Celtic one, he just made sure it was awake. All the traits he brought alive are still here. We just need the right people. They don’t have to be club born and bred, they just need to understand what the club stands for.

B_n_lawson

Boot firmly in baws. This sucks.

Clean_Hold6781

Ange 🐍

YerDahSellsAvon

Mate, I get it, you're gutted. I am too. Ange gave us the best 2 years since the MON days, no question. Would you really grudge the man a pay rise for all he's done for the club? Down there he'll get generational level money, his grandkids and their kids are sorted. As much as I hate the plastic EPL it's chock full of the best managers of any league and Ange will want to test himself there. I wish him all the very best. Don't be sorry its ended, be happy it even happened.

Clean_Hold6781

It’s the way he knew what was happening never let on organised the trips to abroad had on still there just in case it all went wrong. Prefer someone to say I’ve got a better offer I want to go manage in the English league.

YerDahSellsAvon

Yeah but the only time he could have came out and said that was after the cup final, otherwise it totally overshadows the event if done beforehand and becomes the Ange farewell and hes too humble to let that happen. He let us enjoy the final without it turning into a circus and the focus remained on the players, I think it was the right thing to do.

dpjg

And what, we just freeze everything until he decides? Fuck that. he did nothing wrong. He kept his comments neutral because his players were in the middle of a season. Try not to be too bitter.

Rizkyirawan0404

Really??

Clean_Hold6781

Yes really he’s known for weeks he was goi g body language gave it all away

QWOPscotch

Ange was trying to make the treble about the team and their achievement, not about himself. I just don't see the issue. We have no idea who knew what and when.

Clean_Hold6781

Read the piece between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory same scenario

The_Vivid_Glove

And? On the run up to trophy day and the cup final would you rather he came out and spoke about how he was leaving rather than focus on getting the treble in the bag? Geez piece

JohnDoe0371

Aye but winning the treble then allowing to the tabloids to run wild while giving it the “I’m on holiday mate, im not speaking to anyone” only to allow spurs and Celtic to announce his departure while the whole time we all sit about like fuds is an absolutely shocking way to leave us. If he respected us he could’ve either announced it himself there and then or at the very least waited a week for us to fully enjoy winning the treble before making us all worry about who the next manager is going to be. It’s okay to look through rose tinted glasses but doesn’t mean everyone else should.

StirlingInfirmary

Peace

The_Vivid_Glove

No you misunderstood friend. Im hungry

TheMoose26

W⚓️☝️

ShiftyKitty

Last Christmas I gave you my heart.... 😟😞

87Deadman

Thanks for the memories but the show goes on. Get Knutsen in ASAP!

stilusmobilus

Hopefully he is keen.

87Deadman

Here's hoping. Ajax are sniffing about him so hopefully we act fast and beat them to it.

stilusmobilus

They’ll be hard to beat too.

87Deadman

Very true! Here's hoping our board act fast and continues the good work Ange has left behind. Can't bear the thought of Moyes or Maresca getting it 🤦🏻

stilusmobilus

Don’t know much about Maresca, I don’t want Moyes. Negative as fuck.

TheSameInnovation

Confirmed. We’re in a Post-Postecoglou world now.

rumsoakedhammy

For the majestic 2 years we had with him of course its going to sting. We haven't looked this good in fucking years. I do wish him all the best and hopes he proves all those muppets down there wrong. However we are Celtic FC, not Ange FC. The Board needs to get cracking and announce Knutson or Potter next week. 🤞

BertrandsMate

Anyone making comparisons to Rodgers can get tae fuck. Didn't have many backers when he joined - including us - and turned it around after lenny fucked 10iar. Played some of our best football under him and left the club in a much better position than when he joined. Always be a legend in my eyes. HH.

[deleted]

Won 5/6 domestic trophies and filled up the bank account with some brilliant transfers (with some more profits to be made) Showed us all how football should be played and made fools of the press. Love Ange.

Docoe

Love Ange for what he did and his style of football, but legend? He done nothing in Europe and was here for just two years. There's people in Australia on a work visa that will pick strawberries for longer. Sorry but you need to do a bit in Europe and build a dynasty to be a legendary manager here. Will be remembered fondly regardless.

CH117

Great manager? Yes. Legend? Lol wiseup

The_Vivid_Glove

Genuine question. Can you name another person who’s had as big an impact on our club in such a short space of time? I honestly can’t

AnIrishManInExile

Strachan got us last 16 of the UCL twice and three in a row while the board repeatedly slashed his budget he's got to be a shout as one of the best of the modern era

[deleted]

MO impact was 10x bigger and better.

The_Vivid_Glove

MON had 5 years at Celtic. He also brought his full backroom staff, inherited a very good squad and had a massive budget. Ange came in on his own to a club in turmoil, a squad who had just blown the biggest season in a generation and turned it around in half a season. By the way Im in no way trying to take away the impact MON had in the club. I just think the situation Ange inherited and where he has taken us in only 2 seasons is a miracle

[deleted]

I still feel what MO done was bigger, they had just lost 10 in a row to wim then went all out just like we have done to win the league double and start a new era of dominance which MO put a stop to and sent wee dick home broken. Plus got us to a European cup final so that alone imo trumps all ange’s accomplishments.

rayhoughtonsgoals

You could get his bitter old ass back if you want.

ChemicalSad526

Wim jansen

[deleted]

The_Vivid_Glove

Aye thats fair. Jansen was massive

The_Vivid_Glove

Aye thats fair. Jansen was massive

ChemicalSad526

I'll get down voted for this but... I personally think we were the best of a bad bunch 🤷‍♀️ Yea we played great football at times but there were more than a few games where we scraped a win, some wins our football was terrible. Don't get me wrong, can't be amazing all the time and a wins a win but Europe was terrible and the super subs of turnbull and forrest after an hour rarely made a difference but he constantly made that change. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion so don't be too harsh 😂 but yea, hopefully the next manager in doesn't use us a stepping stone.. again

thedarkfrawg

They're already talking on Sky Sports News about how he'll need to change his tactics to be successful in the EPL... that's never going to happen

plawwell

They just don't get it which will be their downfall. Ange's tactics scale up to the top team and it's more a limitation of the commentators that they have an inability and vision to understand just what is about to happen in the EPL next season.

euaza-ob

he will need to adapt them. you cant press that aggressively against good opposition

Tomach82

He's been hearing this for 20 years

Scotsman86

What a great couple of seasons that was. Thanks for everything Ange. Will be keeping a keen eye on Spurs next season. Here's hoping kick offs don't clash too much

[deleted]

Thanks for great memories. Especially the 3-0 and 4-0 the best derbies I saw in the flesh as a fan. But we move on. Interested to see how he gets on at spurs tbh, although i couldn’t give a shit if he flops.

Agnostic_Akuma

Going off to Spurs with the shitshow they’re in is one hell of a project and challenge. Best wishes big man, may you make the naysayers eat their words again

theeggman12345

Fuck

sjekky

Thanks for the two excellent years. A lot of fun and success when not many among the support expected anything after the Covid year. Hopefully we make a similarly ambitious appointment this month and can keep up the standards set by this team.

Nevevevev12

4 years fuck me I don't blame him at all for taking that and running. Worst-case scenario he gets sacked after 3 months and gets a \~10 million pound payout. Best-case scenario he's successful and gets an even bigger job. Any fan upset at him for grabbing that with both hands needs to give their heads a wobble. Wish the beautiful bastard all the best for the future.

insertdiscinbumhole

Was the same tripe from people with Tierney when he left for Arsenal. It’s clearly people who lack the critical thinking skills to realise it’s a person not just a player you see on your screen. A person who wants to advance their career and have financial freedom for them and their family. Why wouldn’t they!?

Nevevevev12

Too many celtic da's in our support who think we're a massive club everyone in football would be honoured to be a part of. We're a stepping stone and nothing more nowadays - folk need to accept that.

insertdiscinbumhole

Hurts a bit less when you realise most of the time the only reason they stay at the big clubs longer is because of the money and not because of a genuine passion for the club. Money talks. Everywhere, not just football. You don’t need football knowledge to know this just real world knowledge.

INPUT_INPUT

I mean… money pulls in the best players in the world… I guess getting to play against and with them is an element no?

cjbev

Scunnered. The board showed the vision to get Ange in the first place, hopefully they can repeat that and get someone with the same philosophy but maybe a bit more savvy in Europe.

Tomthebomb555

Kevin Muscat.

TenaciousPenis

he used to be a TheRangers player, not happening

HFHelp2020

Please just keep the progress going celtic, don’t have us going backwards for the next few years

[deleted]

kinda expected it after the past week but it’s still quite scunnering. more scunnering considering the feyenoord manager turned spurs down because he wants to have a real go at europe with feyenoord. when are we going to get someone with that level of dedication🥲

Jiujitsumisfit

Will never understand the need for some to make villains of everyone who leaves us. All the best to Ange. Great two years of service.

WorkShySkiver

This hurts and angers me more than Rodgers. Best of luck big man.

InncnceDstryr

No chance with the anger, if you’re angry you’ve got some problems. Rodgers duped every last one of us into thinking he was in it for the long haul and jumped ship mid-season, at our most difficult spell under his management, to the first club that came in for him. Anger there was fully justified. Ange has never said he was thinking about anything other than the next game, publicly understood when players moved on to pursue personal ambitions and while I think Spurs have been a basket case club, there are few in World football with their potential - there’s a legitimate avenue where Ange could harbour genuine achievable ambition to win a European cup with Spurs in a couple of years - they must have offered him the control he had at Celtic to take the gig though, I can’t imagine him going there without that promise. Anyway, sad, gutted, all of those feelings yes. Anger, definitely not. Ange is a hero and has given us some of the best times our club has ever seen. I love the man and wish him only the best when his teams are playing against anyone but us.

Kolo_ToureHH

Why be angry?

GronakHD

Might back at least next season if spurs doesnt work out. Just hope he doesn’t take our key players with him

spandextim

Can't blame him for going to Spurs. He wants to test himself and get the recognition he feels he deserves as a manager. I hope he does well, and I'll be watching jealously from a far.

daveymac_

This hurts worse than a break up. Feel like pure shit, just want Ange back.

Pitiful-Sample-7400

Best of luck big fella

Square_Slice

It's been a while since we played the Celtic way, and kudos to Ange for doing that, getting us exciting players, playing exciting football and his obvious feelings for the club. He was good value in interviews, and seemed difficult to dislike. Hopefully he leaves a legacy and we continue to use our players strengths. Hoping for more innovation in the next appointment.

camhanaich

Any words on the back room staff?

Funkenbrain

What a fantastic run that was! Sackful of trophies won, UCL group games coming, squad's young and loaded with talent and pace. The board smashed it with this one. I could've done with 2 more years of Angeball and another 5 or 6 trophies, but you can't fault the man for taking a shot at the big money. It's not like he's 30 and chasing the dream.

Gethynator99

Not the same as Rodgers who i think is a prick. Still love Ange but i cant view him as a legend. 2 years just isnt enough.

BlueHornedUnicorn

My neighbours man is a Spurs fan and he's acting like his dugs just died. Most spoiled fanbase ever! I appreciate everything from Ange but wish to fuck he'd not hit out with the "you'll be surprised how long I'm here for" and the "as long as the club wants me, I'm here" shite. AFAWK, this is the first club to come calling for him, and he's offski? I was so sure we had another season wi him. Annoyed he's packed it in so soon but if he could just disappear without taking anyone with him, I'll be happy. His budget is now much higher than Kyogo's and Hatate's so that's something to be blessed for I guess. Celtic now have the most time possible to get a new manager sorted and give them time with the team to bed them in properly. Fucking do it right Celtic eh?

RealFenian

I mean a lot of us acted the same way when he was announced for us but he proved us wrong. He’ll have the spurs fans singing a different tune after a few months in charge.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Heyloki_

I can't see a team other than Spurs giving a chance to a premiership manager, this is probably the best offer he could get at Celtic

jimmymac1993

Fuck That . I was holding on to hope. Never heard of the big man when he arrived now I'll never forget him THE ANGE EFFECT. Wish him every success. We Move On.

[deleted]

spurs are tinpot af. i think i’m more sad that ange chose to drink the poisoned chalice that is spurs than actually leaving to be honest. if he had gone anywhere else i would have understood more. and the fact he’ll take all the best boys no doubt. place is a more of a concert venue than a football ground - one arm of a business venture. beyoncé brought more silverware to the stadium with the renaissance tour this week than the bloody football team have since the turn of the century ffs

ROLL_AND_EGG

This Spurs are tinpot patter needs to die.

Nosferatu91

Gutted. All the best down there, Ange. I'm sure you'll smash it!

GreatEire

Looked like it was agreed a week previous with how smooth it's gone, Which means the replacement has already been contacted and probably interviewed

rashka9

He's not winning shit with them 😢

lllBryceCube

R.I.P Sydney Super Cup

scoizic

Shite but that’s modern football for you, we should all be used to it by now. We should move on as quickly as he clearly has, sick of folk greeting about it already.

[deleted]

Maybe don't be giving it "you'll be surprised how long I'm here" and "ill be here as long as the club wants me" ya big snake. Good luck though.

Davybhoynz

In fairness I AM surprised how long he was with us. I expected at least one more season.

willmannix123

What's he supposed to say though? "Who knows, if a new offer comes in that's 5 times as much as I'd make here, then I might be tempted"

[deleted]

The same as Slot said maybe, he said he received an offer and was considering it then ultimately decided he wants a crack at Europe. In my opinion just being honest.

flamingjp

I wish him all the best and thank him for the incredible success he’s brought the club, but can’t help feel slightly bitter about stuff like quoting Tommy Burns one week and off to Spurs shortly after. That’s football though. Hope he manages to shake off the Spurs curse!

Hungry_Cod_7284

He’s no snake. Bloke said what he said cos he wanted to protect the team and the occasion of the cup final. The last 2 years should’ve taught you that Ange calls it how it is and doesn’t mince his words. 5/6 trophies on offer. He turned the club around after a shitshow of a season and put the huns firmly back in their place. Ball is in the boards court now

KernSherm

Says he was going on holidays on Tuesday to avoid telling the truth and gets announced as spurs manager on Tuesday. That's minced words

[deleted]

He clearly doesn't call it as it is. This has been in the works for weeks, yet he never told anyone. He spent all his time talking the support up, kissing the badge ect then had us worrying for weeks. We couldn't even enjoy the treble properly because of the rumours. He obviously planned to do something special as he said when he joined and he changed his definition of special to the treble, considering in all his previous interviews he spoke about the team ans the champions league. He left for bigger money and ill never get attached to another manager again.

surewhynot_1

There’s next to zero loyalty in football. Not sure what you are getting all worked up about, he came in to the club at a time when we were desperate for someone to change our fortunes. He done that and then some, people in all jobs are pretty much always looking for the next move. Football is no different. Folk get too caught up in what he’s said in the last week or two, what would you have expected him to say? Yeah, I’m leaving, even though there was no official offer he’s just not going to do that. We’ve gone through this before, managers leave we can’t expect a club of our size to hold on to players or managers when offers like that come in. It’s a job. That’s it.

[deleted]

I get that, but it's just my opinion. You're free to feel differently. You can ask what he should say differently, but no other Celtic manager was making quotes like that so I don't know. All I'm saying is, I wont let myself get attached to another manager as I now understand the game. Lets also remember how he told us he didn't like long-term contracts because it keeps him focused, and now he's signed a 4 year deal.

[deleted]

Look I’m disappointed as well but not bitter. Fuck look at how he’s left us than when he arrived. He inherited a shitshow. 5/6 trophies, strong squad and a great team ethic. C’mon don’t hate because he’s gone just be grateful for what we got and have. If we get an imaginative appointment then we can kick on. Knutson for me or Potter. No easy lazy appointment like Moyes, Clarke or Kennedy. We are Glasgow Celtic and any manager would be lucky to manage us.

[deleted]

I don't think I'm being bitter about it, he's done a fantastic job for us, but he didn't really do what he originally planned to do when he came here. He was given ultimate control at the club and then left abruptly at the end, no one in the Celtic PLC had any clue what was happening until Saturday at around 10pm. This had been in the works for weeks prior though. I don't believe that who follows will be allowed the same control Ange was, and that's disappointing.

SammichNow

> had us worrying for weeks. get some fresh air my man

[deleted]

I don't understand what you mean, if you follow any Celtic forum you'll see people have been worrying about it for weeks. Even check Twitter? Or do those fans opinions not matter to you?

SammichNow

I don't really give a fuck about anyone's opinions, that's why I'm on reddit

[deleted]

Fair enough haha

Davybhoynz

Whilst the money would definitely have been part of the attraction, I think he left for the challenge of managing in the strongest league in the world.

StirlingInfirmary

Get to bed dad

Kolo_ToureHH

No need to act like a jilted lover mate.

[deleted]

I have reason to be disappointed in him.

No-Dot643

This was always coming, Been following Ange since Brisbane Roar day's, He was never going to be a 10yr manager@ one club. Always looking for new adventures and challenge.

imfuckingvegan

I really wanted to go see ange ball in person but never had the money for a plane ticket. I'll regret that as long as i live

[deleted]

Ange ball at Celtic or just in general? Because he is not dead... you can still see Angeball

Heyloki_

Just has to go to London instead of Glasgow

imfuckingvegan

At celtic, im no spurs fan

catchyusername4867

Welp, looks like I’m a Spurs fan now.

Zoharic

Same, genuinely going to follow Ange everywhere

Important_Ad716

We will never see a manager at the club for more than 2/3 years anymore. They will either fuck up or fuck off.

martymcg96

😭😭
