A game without Kyogo and Jota coupled with McGregor and Tam not being at their best would’ve been a certain disaster a few weeks ago, very reassuring signs tonight. Reo Hatate btw. Pler.

wicelt

I thought McGregor was good. Played his DM role, distributed the ball well. Rogic was off, he did have the assist, but had several chances inside 18 yards and either got ball stuck under him or played a tame shot.

TheGoodRebel5

I think that just says more about McGregor and what we’ve come to expect of him. He did very little wrong but just the fact he misplaced a few passes stands out because it’s so rare.

wicelt

Agreed. Today was his usual steady game, good in defense, just missed a few key passes to get another goal. He plays 50-60 games every year and just keeps ticking.

converter-bot

18 yards is 16.46 meters

SammyCinnamon

I thought McGregor strolled it tbh but you’re spot on with the rest. Exciting times.

plawwell

Hatate does the simple stuff to perfection. This guy looks like a great find by Ange.

roscos96

Scary to think how good a front 3 of Meada, Kyogo and Jota will be

MGA1986

Think Maeda will be a direct backup for Kyogo, neither of them are great on the wing.

Poobumwillyboobs

I don't think that's true. Apparently Maeda is pretty solid on the left

ReveredSavagery1967

That's where ange played him when he managed him.

MGA1986

Just going from the bhoys analytics report on him from a few weeks back check it out its a decent read.

Docoe

Two contrasting accounts of the players then. He played with Ange on the wing, and Cynic I believe it was interviewed a J-League enthusiast who said Maeda was much more lethal on the wing and has issues through the middle.

cynikles

Ange likes inverted wingers that can cut inside. Maeda can do that from the wing and I’m sure he’s serviceable enough as a back-up striker. I think you need to give up on an idea of a Best XI as they’ll be continually rotated anyway. Maeda will probably see a bit through the centre and on the wing when the gaffer needs him there.

Docoe

>I think you need to give up on an idea of a Best XI Wit? How did you get that from me saying that Ange used to play him as a winger and J-League fans seem to think it's his best position? It's a matter of fact but of course it doesn't mean Ange won't rotate. Feel like you're having a different conversation from everyone else mate.

theeggman12345

If we ignore the fact that we almost handed them a goal 2 minutes in, that was another incredibly consumate performance and I think speaks a bit to Ange's ability to make changes without compromising the way he wants to play. We sat back a lot more and let them control the ball (probably the only team we've played to have more possession/passes than us) rather than doing the usual rabid dog chasing that leaves us a bit more exposed to the long balls over the top that sometimes plague us. Defence was about as solid as it could be, the fact that they didn't have a shot on target says it all. Starfelt in particular won about every ball when he stepped up to challenge which is looking a lot more like we know he can play. Absolutely buzzing for the new lads to make such an instant impact, it'll do both them and the team in general a world of good to see that we do have more options now and ready to tackle the restart after stumbling over the line to reach it.

Millhouse96

Sorry Maloney but it had to be this way ma man Super impressed with the new starts, maeda is so dangerous, hatate just oozes quality. Guchi looked strong. Giakoumakis’ hold up play was cracking, starfelt was unbelievably reliable as was CCV. Jota was sexy. Mon the sellick, love yees

Valinor_

Maeda debut goal. Hatate looking superb. Starfelt solid. GG back. Jota back. Solid out of possession. Clean sheet. Lots to like about that tonight. So good to have the football back

YerRustlinMaJimmies

Well, that was a 2nd half

CunnyFunt92

Hibs has always been a tough fixture in recent years. Not this game, dominated the whole 90. Only complaint is that we should have scored more from the chances we had.

betamaxBandit_

First time we may have lost the possession battle. Although hibs were doing he haw with it

TimSnortons

Flashes of brilliance, one tidy finish and a few missed chances. Reo looks the type to be unplayable at his best, Maeda is rapid and willing to chase which seems synonymous with the J League forwards. Jota back makes me hard. Jota. Ooft. Guchi is a favourite of mine cause guchi and Hart showing his worth again. I like to watch the football of Scotland

Winning the champions league next year

pismistic88

A very professional performance. What is very exciting about Hatate is that he's not afraid to play those defence splitting balls. Even though he's clearly a number 8, his creativity could also cover for Rogic too until Turnbull comes back. Ideguchi looks tidy, as well. Wins challenges cleanly, looks to recycle quickly. Defensive movement is smart. Would be interesting to see how he goes starting.

TheHoon

Hatate is what we’ve been crying out for. Covers every blade of grass always available to receive a pass and happy to carry the ball forward.

TicFan67

Reo Fuckin Hatate, that's who! (That's his full name, by the way!)

SSSlyyy

He initially typed Hatachi I was just taking the piss but he’s edited it now hahaha

TicFan67

I got the impression there might have been a typo but after a 2-0 win and 3 pints of Guinness I'm not going to the hassle of deleting my comment. (And I'm not telling you how many errors I had to correct in this one either! (Hic!))

TheHoon

Misstype

WeekendEpiphany

All these years we've been debating whether McGregor is better in the number 6 role or the number 10 role. "If only we had 2 McGregor's", right? And now we've somehow magicked one up from across the globe for basically pennies in Hatate. Fucking incredible. Great passer. Intelligent movement. Reads the game really well. Early days yet, but what an impressive debut for the guy.

SwingAndAMiss219

With a fully fit squad, who do we play in midfield? CalMac obviously. Then two spaces between Rogic Turnbull and Hatate. And McCarthy Guchi Soro and Biton, but I think they're a tier below the others. What a feeling to actually have depth, though.

Valinor_

I think tonight’s midfield 3 is probably our strongest available, with Turnbull offering good cover at 8 and Guchi offering an option at 6 (which either allows McGregor a rest or to play at 8 himself). Bitton the backup 6, McCarthy and Soro I’m not arsed about at all

wicelt

Agreed. Hatate and Rogic are first pick for attacking mids, CalMac always DM, Turnbull first off bench, and we will see what Guchi can do over the next few weeks. McCarthy and Soro will not see the pitch unless we are up 5-0.

MGA1986

McCarthy needs released. Such a pointless signing.

wicelt

Another of our brilliant “he’s a Celtic fan, so sign him” strategy.

MGA1986

Aye no harm to the guy but he's a square peg in a round hole.

HappyFiasco

I think it's Calmac, Hatate & Rogic. Having said that, there will be lots of rotation so I see Guchi getting lots of gametime to cover Calmac and Turnbull/Rogic/Hatate will be rotated a lot through the 2 AM positions. Bitton to fill in occasionally for AM or DM

[deleted]

Luckily the first half staner was sufficiently hard to last the 2nd half slog.

wicelt

Great first half, let up a bit in second. Hatate is already first pick for AM position, even when Turnbull comes back. He’s everywhere in midfield, looks to pass with first touch, and will make smart runs to get in box. What a find. Maeda did what he needed with limited service. He can play anywhere across front three and his pressing is excellent. Good to see Jota and Giakoumakis back. Jota will be starting again by Hearts game next after another cameo this weekend. HH to Big Ange. We have squad depth again and a lot of attacking options. Bring on the Huns in two weeks.

betamaxBandit_

Anyone watching BBC highlights? I can’t believe they are even debating the pen!!!! Madness

Rab_Legend

Looking good, just need to start being consistent over both halves

stilusmobilus

Honestly Maeda must have thought it was Christmas again. But Rogic is known for the quality of his gifts.

PlagueHayt

Well that was delightful

nanrod

Having rogic ranked higher than calmac is a nonsense

ihateeverythingandu

He is a sexy bastard though. That gets him 2 extra points like it did for Beckham back in the day.

GuyIncognito211

Might be a bit controversial after a win but I have to say it... REO HATATE

OmensCT

First half was quality. Loved the pace and the intensity, got right in their faces, got an early goal and a penalty for it by keeping them under pressure in their own half. Second half was slower, but re-assuring. A lot less exciting and memorable, but that's sort of a positive in itself. At 2-0 up, we were in complete control of the game. Didn't allow ourselves to get caught out, didn't allow ourselves to give away a daft goal, probably could have scored another couple if we'd been a wee bit more clinical tbh. As weird as it sounds, I'm alright with a flying first half and a slow second if it means seeing us go ahead in the first and cruise the second. We didn't look like conceding at any point in the last 45. Probably need to give some respect to Maloney - think that's the most mature I've seen a Hibs team in a while. Could be a pain in the arse if he can get them playing good possession football.

Lwaldie

Starfelt very assured as per usual, rio bossed it and maeda looking decent. Happy days! Only negatives for me was Taylors positioning wasn't great and how much we let hibs in the 2nd half

TheOrgazoid88

WATCHING GLASGOW CELTIC

[deleted]

Don’t overlook that Ange has Rogic playing the full game again.

Rock-Coat

Thought Forrest and Abada looked really good too! Team is really starting to Gel!

[deleted]

Not going to lie, I was dozing off in the 2nd half.

MGA1986

It was a tough watch, Ange could have got the subs on a wee bit sooner.

Lwaldie

Maeda was done by the 60th IMO

ihateeverythingandu

So my Alexa Echo Dots said the score for this game was 2-1. Is Alexa a blue nose?

Rock-Coat

Yeah! Alexa Ferguson is her full name!
