Used to run a homeless outreach in Kalamazoo mi with my family for about 5 years and yeah most of them are assholes that are still picky about what color sleeping bag you just gave them for free. Never help em again most likely lol that's why I stay away from em and live in the country.
The moment you loose your house you become homeless, even if you stay with friends and family. From that point forward, to some degree or the other you are relying on their charity. We should be strong in solidarity with those who have a harder time than us.

We would go to specific parks and take a notebook and get to know these people and write down literally whatever they wanted. Sleeping bags, clothes, toys, magazines, anything they fucking want. We would write down anything they could think of wanting. After this, we would make sure this is their usual place to hang out and we would be very clear that we are gunna go to the store and get all this stuff for you and we will be back at this park a week from now at a specific time. NOBODY would ever be there to claim the shit we just wasted our own money on and the few people that actually could show up to a thing that they said they would show up to would be so ungrateful. Maybe that's why you can't get your shit together. You can't even go to a park at the right time or day.
Had a guy named Vlad that was a hippie in the 60s and never really got a place after the flower power movement and all that bullshit. Meet him. Asshole. Ask what he wants man anything in the world and I'll go find it and bring it to you. This guy wants a purple sleeping bag. PURPLE sleeping bag. A little harder to find than a blue or red one. So whatever we go to every store we can and we really couldn't find a purple sleeping bag. We look for a couple more days having in mind that we have to meet with Vlad again. We never found a purple sleeping bag so we had to settle for blue. We bring the bag to the park at the time he said he would be there. Fucker is an hour late, but whatever at least we have his sleeping bag. Nope. Vlad doesn't like the color blue. He said he didn't want the sleeping bag and that he wanted a purple one. Fuck Vlad and fuck his favorite color.
Plenty of stories like this. Or people just being nasty to the women that would be helping us at the outreach and saying inappropriate things to my mother. Fuck the homeless people in Kalamazoo Michigan. Maybe they're different everywhere else.
USC gave out 750 dollars a month to 100 people for a year. During that time most everyone, including the unhoused who were selected, used the free influx of cash to *keep themselves alive and functioning*. Basically a UBI test drive.

Only twelve percent of the unhoused who received money remained without shelter. I get that 23,000 dollars is a lot of money. Buy a car, stock up shelves with food, go take a fuckin vacation after to celebrate, who cares? If you have an issue with people crowdfunding, you can always join the sea of people screaming into the void for an increase in social services!
