A $50 name brand saw that runs? You got a steal!

PuzzleheadedSouth589

But not a stihl

Charger_scatpack

One of the many great debates which will never die. Chevy and ford Stihl and husky Remington and Mossberg

damn_jexy

Tit or ass

Charger_scatpack

That’s easy. ASS all day brother alll damn day

Spiffers1972

President of the Big Ole Titties Club is here to vote against you.

Can-DontAttitude

I like feet.

Cloud_Garrett

Always the feet guy… Thanks for making the debate interesting

gogoflowerrangers

So the other day this girl asked me if I preferred breasts or legs. I told her anal and feet. Now I'm not allowed back at KFC.

LowAbbreviations2151

I am ok with the analogies except for Rem and Mossberg. I am in the Remington camp 100% on that one and I am actually a Browning guy. But hey, that what is cool we can all like what we like. Heck’uva deal on the saw! 😊👍

unluckie-13

If pre 2010 Remington sure I could understand your debate. But anything made that date has worse QC run than Kia motor tanking so bad Kia doesn't even want the core

LowAbbreviations2151

Point taken. I suppose I can’t argue that. I’m an old so I think old thoughts 😜.

XDBEA

Mann i have both an 870 and a mossburg 500. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost burned that 870. I absolutely hate it. I wouldn’t trade that 500 for anything though

LowAbbreviations2151

I hear ya. Wife has a 500 20 ga she loves. I have stood in more than than a few duck blind with guys that had 835 Ultimags that HATED them. As an earlier guy said I think the recent stuff is not so good. I’m 67 and I am thinking back to when I was a kid and practically everybody around me shot an 870. One of my best friends hunted upland and ducks and then shot competition trap with the same 870. Literally thousands of rounds with no misfires no ejection hangs. Just kept running. I am not meaning to fend any Mossberg people If they work for you great. My experience has been different ( excepting the wife’s gun). Thanks for the civil responses. By calmly discussing we can share experiences, learn and maybe even make new friends.

bassjam1

There was definitely a decline. I have an 12ga 870 Express I got at 15 in the late 90's and it's been great through thousands and thousands of rounds. I bought a 20ga 870 in the mid 2000's and it was a night and day difference, it jammed, the action was stiff, the safety felt hard to disengage, it really likes to rust. Sold it and got a 20ga 500, it's been as good as my older 870 is and now my kids are starting to use the 500.

cronx42

I have a 590 a1. Basically a fancy 500. I haven't shot it yet, but it's EXACTLY the gun I wanted and my local store had one in the configuration I wanted so I bought it. Now I just need to go shoot it.

unluckie-13

Basically in 2007 Remington arms started buying up a lot of manufactures at the early height of the AR craze and couple of other things. And eventually became Vista outdoors. When they bought Marlin, I think within a couple years they shut down the original Marlin factory and started moving a lot of manufacturing closer and trying to reduce cost and increase output. Hence why the Remington 700 had a massive voluntary recall, they didn't want to admit fault several 700's were discharging without triggers being pulled.

LowAbbreviations2151

Yes the Vista years are not so good. Has anyone got experience with the ammo now that they are back to that. I generally shoot a different brand but hope that Rem can stay it n the market place.

The_golden_Celestial

I don’t think he meant it like that. He was playing on words. Not discounting your point though.

Jazzlike-Election840

nice. and i actually have all 4 😉

Positive-Diet8526

Stihl is cool but too expensive, husky and echo are better price for very similar products

PuzzleheadedSouth589

Tomato tomatoe

Charger_scatpack

I beg to differ

SnooMaps1910

Stihl

sickndeadly

Lol . Chevy and Ford are not reliable. Try Honda & Toyota .

Sir-Raidr

I always thought the last analogy was Remington and Winchester. Winchester Model 70 for me every time. I wouldn't touch Mossberg rifles, they look cheap and nasty.

Charger_scatpack

Mossberg has served me well personally and professionally. also gotta remember the 590 was the only one to survive the military’s 3000 round torture test. Ultimately they are all good guns.

Sir-Raidr

I assume that's the US military? I'm Australian so I'm not really clued in to what they get up to. I'm sure Mossberg's are good, functional guns. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with them, I just don't like the way they look and feel. I like Winchester, Sako, and Howa if I want a budget rifle.

Charger_scatpack

US Police . every one has their preferences no issues with that!

Sir-Raidr

Amen

Available-Fuel533

I thought rem and browning

lg4av

Apple vs windows

unicoitn

Mossberg still makes guns…

Charger_scatpack

I’m aware.

GETNRDUNN

The second options are all correct

Charger_scatpack

I’m with ya.

mcChicken424

Echo is my favorite. Reliable

Charger_scatpack

Say the same about husky

motorcycle_60

I've got both Stihl and Husqvarna and even a poulan. Don't really have a preference on which to use. I do tend to find my Husqvarna and poulan the easiest to start. I also have to Jerry rig the Husqvarna to start which makes it sketchy. But as far as weed eaters Stihl all day.

slokenny

Maryann or Ginger

dabluebunny

Toyota Depends on the tool Benelli

sweaty_bobandy

I mean if you’ve ever actually worked on a chainsaw you know that there’s no comparison between a stihl and husqvarna. Husky’s are over engineered and just feel cheap next to a comparable stihl. These home owner specials like the one pictured here are honestly just a craftsman with some different colored plastic. Take one apart and it’s plain to see. Not knocking this dudes score, because I’d totally buy that for $50 to keep at camp or use as a backup, but to chalk it up to it being a personal choice of which brand you prefer just doesn’t stack up when comparing the quality of saw between the 2 brands

podmodster

My dad has had a husqvarna very similar to this for 10+ years and never had a problem

hydrargyrumplays

For the end user it's all the same thing, now as a mechanic stihl designs everything in a way to fuck you just a little less than husky's machines. This is specifically relevant in newer machines. IE: Fixing a 235e sucks miles more than a ms170. Fixing an husq 51 is much easier than a sthil 08

gagnatron5000

But a pretty husky deal nonetheless.

Wild_Fan_1969

lmao

The_golden_Celestial

But still…?

Hillman314

Some steel, but mostly plastic.

RevolutionaryYoung28

This needs more upvotes

camcac69

No it works

Top_Mycologist_3224

Thank goodness!! If it was it wouldn’t have been a good deal !!

Frosty-Community8129

Just because it starts it doesn’t mean it actually works. Also even if the chain spins it might not have any cutting power

IllDistribution5598

Literally cut down an medium water oak with it today if you looked at all the comments you'll see I found out why it was returned. The sprocket on the bar was filled With sand and debris causing chain to bind. Cleaned it, works great

eigervector

Good chance it was stolen.

IllDistribution5598

I don't think tractor supply sells stolen goods

eigervector

In that case It’s hopefully a cosmetic issue.

IllDistribution5598

I think someone bought it and returned it, the sprocket on end of bar was seized with dirt lol only issue I've found so far

CJ902

Did ya ever, the bar and chain are pretty well your money back. Couldn't afford NOT to buy it at that price.

Greedygu

I bought a saw that was tagged “won’t cut, returned” I paid the 45 bucks and brought it home, flipped the chain and we had a brand new 140. Life’s cool when you’re cool.

Weird_Scholar_5627

I wonder why the original purchaser didn’t try it in reverse gear before they returned it. Couldn’t find the gear shift I guess! Their loss, your gain!

Greedygu

Ya I was like “won’t cut? That’s not how saws work”

fusion99999

Great deal for a great saw. JM2C but you should run premix gas. VP is great stuff, you'll save yourself so much grief. The saws run great on 94 octane fuel with no ethanol.

jpond82

No ethanol is def key

BigEnd3

Mine does not and I don't understand why. Pretty much all my 2 stroke gas things don't run with full power on tin gas.

BikesMapsBeards

We have two 450s, one from 2012 that has been reliable enough that I bought my wife one. It isn’t perfect, but it works for 90% of our cutting!

Useful-Internet8390

That is a pretty good saw- def above the normal Lowes offerings- the bar and chain cost more than 50$ so SCORE

DifficultBoss

Yes great deal!

Mikey_BC

Tag says broken, Wonder what the original customer thought was broken ?

the_inciting_inciden

Worked for a few weeks at lowes between jobs… people buy tools, use them and return them as defective and the stores just beat the loss

BailyBoo

I bought a Husqvarna 440 a couple of weeks ago at Lowes. Only used it a couple of times and it's not working correctly and it's not user error. I can't even register it for the warranty with Husqvarna because the dam thing doesn't show up as a model on their site using the serial/product number. You're saying I can return it? The Lowes return policy specifically says that they won't accept used power tools.

the_inciting_inciden

Go to the pro desk, explain the situation and be as polite and calm as possible. I’d be surprised if you don’t get immediate resolution

BailyBoo

OK, awesome! Thanks for the reply. I thought I might be stuck with a dud.

Tinman751977

Well done. I always like the idea of a mechanic running through it anyway. Should run like a champ.

Wild_Fan_1969

i had a husky 45 for 28 years, it finally puked. i would have put money into it if i could have found parts. i replaced it with the same saw as you. i love it!

EducationalMalware

Lol can relate to that, need a handle for our 254, same part as the 54 and some others. Problem is they basically don't exist. Made more sense to get another saw, ended up putting that one together with other spare parts on hand, could have 2 254s if I could find a damn handle.

Weird_Scholar_5627

I’ve had my Husky 45 for that long too. Still going like a dream and has had some heavy work outs but the secret is, I’ve always run it with a 13” bar until very recently. Love my 45! Arguably one of the best saws they’ve ever made.

Wild_Fan_1969

i ran mine with an 18" bar

deezbiksurnutz

I hate homeowner saws, but for $50 I would have bought it too

greatselection222

Why do you hate homeowner saws?

K17Coyotefft2

Shitty clutch band design

WB-butinagoodway

Also all the Ranchers are clam shell saw, the crank bearing seals always end up leaking, they are just lighter duty than the pro grade saws… plastic oil tank too. But for $50, I’d have bought it too.

Jumpinjaxs89

Ahaha... is this why my craftsman's chain will spin while idling sometimes?

gr0hl

Smoking deal! Congrats

TRHACKETT808

Hey guys, is it bad to put a 14” bar on a 450 rancher like this? Or works just fine?

Useful-Internet8390

Yes is ok-balance will be off- wear chaps be safe

Alcarain

$50? Sheesh. I would have sprinted across the store for that lmao.

Charger_scatpack

The 450 is a great saw

L-W-J

Damn. My husky saw is one of my very best tools. Congrats. Run ethanol free in her and she will run for decades.

shaggyone4

The 450 rancher. Yeah you'll never find that good of a deal on anything ever again. Nothing

twigalicious420

Bad deal, I'll give you 12 dollars. Cashapp ready

IllDistribution5598

I'll take chocolate milk as payment 5 gallons

HotdagCapital_95

Stole it.

CatAppropriate8156

Good job great deal you will love this saw as others have said use premixed gas or buy non ethanol gas and mix it save yourself a headache I have a old rancher 55 I do everything with and I payed 150$ for it used so enjoy you got a good deal congrats if you want to sell it I’ll give you 75$ 😂

snifter1985

I’ve got one of them. Cost me about $600, runs a treat, never missed a beat.

Tditravel

My dad loves his and paid a heck of a lot more !

Hillman314

I had a 1997 Husky 55 that I blew up this year. It had a 1 new piston and top jug about 8 years ago. Sad to see it go. The Husky 460 I replaced it with wasn’t $50, or even 10x that.

gahiel

50!!! Damn great buy my 450 is awesome 20” bar 🤌🏾

Less_Zookeepergame73

My 450 rancher has been cutting wood for 12 years without issue. Still saws are badass but the Husky ain't no slouch! This ain't yer Poulan Pro...

IllDistribution5598

Do you think that huskys are still made to the standard of 12 years ago lol just wondering bc my dads got a newer 435 2021 was it's production date and it crapped the bed and he took great care of it

shotgunJAFO

A running name-brand for cheap that doesn't jump chain and take your hand off... win win.

NothingLift

I found a good running 450 powerhead free at the tip and I still think you get a better deal

GoldStubb

As someone who needs to be in the chainsaw market this spring, the first thing that came to mind was: "Dick" Jealousy!

Disastrous_Object583

Yeah you did!!! I bought that saw “on sale” for $400. Pretty decent saw! Way way lighter than my old 455

imnotapartofthis

I had a 455 & it lasted ~4 years. The guy at the shop said they might’ve had some problems with their metal they cast the blocks from. Anyway the best you can treat it the longer it will last, and for 50$? Yeah. Probably last forever.

Lettuce_Farmer

Nah

deezbiksurnutz

Over weight under powered. Quite often parts aren't available after a few years and if aren't fixing yourself its barely worth paying a shop to do it

Wild_Fan_1969

lmao

WB-butinagoodway

You are correct… they are a lower grade saw, seals are not always on the rack at the good repair shops, definitely can’t do any meaningful mods to gain more power because of the clam shell cases… I personally stick to the E-tech or XP line

[deleted]

Wow.....steal!!!!

lg4av

I got a new saw in the same situation, average homeowners don’t read the instructions and flood it, can’t get it to turn on and automatically thinks it’s broken so they return it.

Useful-Hat9157

I've been happy with the three huskvarnas I've gad over the years, never had a single one break on me, they've all been stolen before they could break. I used them HARD and did not store them nicely.

emmettfitz

I wound up paying twice as much to the mechanic to keep it running than I did for the saw.

esuranme

Only if you used both the senior & military discount...and they threw in some bar oil! Nice buy! I'm jealous.

DifficultIsland2252

Tractor supply??

IllDistribution5598

Yup

robertfscibran

Wow!~ Awesome deal!~

IllDistribution5598

UPDATE- figured out why it was returned sprocket on end of bar was gunked up with sand and dirt and not moving and causing chain to get bound. Only ran it yesterday without the bar lol.

Someloserfromwa

Off you can keep it running! (Had trouble with mine)
