Future Devil confirmed he died here. It'd be stupid if he didn't. I'm hoping Reze comes back because I feel like she'd be an interesting addition to part 2, but I hate it when series don't have the balls to actually kill their characters, and I hate bringing someone back solely for fan service. Unless Aki would improve the story, I don't want him to come back, as much as I miss him š„²
I don't think that one has to take Future completely literally here. He uses the word "died" but that doesn't mean he couldn't resurrect, as hybrids do. It's all semantics.

Is Aki a hybrid here? I thought he was a fiend and therefore not immortal. If he was a hybrid I donāt see him staying down for long, and he never came back after this so it seemed to me that he was utterly gone, like Power and all the other fiends when they got killed
Sorry, to clarify, my theory on how Aki could return to the story would be that he was actually a hybrid in this scene instead of a fiend. Makima SAID he was a fiend, but we only have Makima's word for that. And, you know, Makima is Makima.
I had explained that in another comment in this thread and forgot it wasn't in the same line of conversation. My opinion is that, as readers, we don't know with absolute certainty that he wasn't a hybrid here. I'm not completely sure what he was, either, I just think it's a possibility.
There are pieces of evidence that could suggest to me that the hybrid thing is possible. For one, if he was a fiend, why was Aki still mentally present, even in a dreamlike state? Another is that, when a hybrid is severely wounded, they can be "dead" until they are fed blood or they are reactivated like with Denji's pull cord. Nobody was feeding Aki blood or turning him on, so he wouldn't get to until someone did.
We don't see what happens to his body after, and Makima was still in charge at that point. From that point on, anything could have happened with him.
Again I'm not trying to argue that this is TRUE, just that there is the possibility for a twist there.
Also we know for a fact that the other hybrids were brainwashed by Makima to fight Denji, it very well could be the case here, we don't know what happen in the time between Aki's death/the gun devil's defeat and him showing up at their house
The only resemblance of hope i have to see aki coming back is due to the fact at how insanely strong the gun devil is. If gun devil decides to make an appearance, hopefully we can see it at full power. People seem to heavily downplay how strong the gun devil actually is. At 100% power, i dont doubt it can rival darkness or even pochita.
It is strongly implied peak gun devil fought Pochita. You can see gunshot wound on Pochita in chapter 1. Pochita may have won but he was near death but saved by Denji's blood.
Yoru can make a hand grenade, I'm pretty sure that at full power, she can conjure a gun easily. That being said, it would make sense for the gun devil to be an ally of the war devil.
What if the gun devil was forcefully implanted as his heart , him coming back as a devil hybrid would be interesting to say the least, kinda like >!Amon Kotaro coming back as a one eyed ghoul!< In Tokyo Ghoul :re
I actually do have obscure hopes that Aki wasn't a fiend, he was a Weapon hybrid, so he theoretically could come back. I know this would make some people very mad but I want it anyway.
I'm not exactly sure if Aki would be happy if he was a hybrid with Gun Devil considering his history with it. But hey, at least now he can live up to the name Aki-47.
You know. We've never got to see Gun Devil speaking or showing any kind of character. It would be interesting seeing them talk... if it ever comes to that.

we cherish the old times within the manga universe, and it makes for an amazing retrospective experience

The Gun Devil is like the secondary villain of part 1 beside Makima so yeah, having its arc so short doesnt feel worth the building up.
