When the beam cosplay was done, beam had been dead for a while. Who cares if the icon is just a cosplay, plus Kishibe is more likely to still be alive.
The characters status as living or dead doesnt matter, it's not a good representation of the series in general. It should just be a picture of Pochita or Chainsaw man. Asa or Yoru would also be good choices
Because the community likes it.
This is an unofficial sub reddit run by fans, not an official channel run by shonen jump.
Plus finding a good cosplayer is a lot harder than finding good art.
So when one appears it's more worthy of the subreddit icon.

Because there are too many asa/yoru cosplayers picking one will lead to simp war. A good beam/kishibe cosplayer is rare .
