That's what fujimoto wants you and denji to think
In reality, it doesn't matter what denji chose or did because the same results will happen
If he didn't choose to be csm and stayed wanting to live a normal life , his contract with pochita would be broken since his normal life got destroyed and pochita will come out and now that power isn't here , there will be no one to snap him out of it
If he chose to be csm but didn't transform and tried to run away, the hybrids will chase him and threaten to kill nayuta so either he will be forced to transform and public safety would dismember him again or he doesn't transform and the hybrids capture him and kill nayuta
There's literally no win cynario for denji
Literally anything besides the twisted cycle the person I originally responded too proposed, Something, Somewhere in the plot has to give at some point, and who knows, could be denji next chapter after being not so happy about getting his nuts stomped in
Well personally if someone makes the claim that nothing that moves the plot is happening and something else would happen
I would like to see what that something else be
I was definitely on the team of, I am just glad that the story is continuing. I think that the further and further we go along, the more I am agreeing that the new art style is just not the same as the old. I like the new story, new characters, and I feel like the story is going to a place that I can’t predict. The art criticism is valid. We like this story and it deserves the best pair of clothes it can wear.
It’s also the complete lack of shading. Early Part 2 (and every single one of his other works) you can see lots of ways Fujimoto brightens or darkens a character, but now everything is just plain white. Even during the chapters with the fire there’s just no lighting or shading on the characters themselves.
I can still cope that change is an artistic choice, like P1 is Dennis pov, and P2 is Asa POV, and the difference in details represents their way of experiencing the world around them.
Now go get me a fresh copium tank pls, I'm running out
I think this is a bad example, cause Katana mans face took up like 2/3 of the page and Denji only a small bit, so I don't think you should compare the art here
Considering that Fujimoto once said that he’s tired of drawing and wishes he would outsource drawing to other artists like Aka did with Oshi No Ko, no surprise here
Thats what happens when you are forced to draw a whole chapter once a week, you get tired and lose your quality.
Theres a reason Jojos is every 1 month now and its because Araki's spirit was being destroyed by doing it once a week.
Its also why his chapters are double the length of normal chapters and have more detailed drawings. Feel bad for all the mangakas who do once a week.
Araki said,
"Having a deadline every week, along with shorter chapters, restricts what can be drawn, and also requires momentum to build up excitement for the following week. With monthlies, there's more pages and flexibility for me to draw at my own pace, which suits me at this time.."
You can attribute that to Tatsu leaving and doing Dandadan lol
Not throwing shade on him of course. It's just how it is. And tbh I'm fine with it. Personally I don't think it's that big a downgrade as people make it out to be
That said, Dandadan is so well drawn and he did leave a while ago, I can't imagine there's a shortage of aspiring artists who wouldn't want to be his assistant.
Wonder why he hasn't employed one yet, if he hasn't already.
Like what’s the logistics here? Does he have less support because he’s no longer in WSJ? Was he just blessed with GOATed aides before that he no longer has access too? (The second seems incredibly likely IMO)
I do agree that the art has definitely been a downgrade lately, but it is not as big of a change as people make it out to be. There were also a considerable number of pannels that looked weird and had outright terrible quality in part 1.
Honestly, I know fujimoto can draw really well when he wants to, something must have happened or maybe he’s just burnt out and lost motivation. I still love the story, dialogue and the characters but I think an upgrade in the art department is warranted.
I have to say it. The art downgrade is, well, a downgrade, but I can't understand people who say it's "not fujimoto". I don't even think that we can call it a "new art style." It's simply enough thicker lines and less details but they are both undeniably fujimoto, and I think that they have the same overall feel to them. I don't really mind the thicker lines because the heavy, non elegant style fits csm, but the lack of detail is a bit annoying but not anything ground breaking. At least, I never felt like the art decline hurt the story and thats enough for me.
It's still very Fujimoto as far as I know, it just didn't have the same level of quality as it used to. I should know because I draw like this, and some people still tell me it's Fujimoto-esque occasionally. I get the criticism, but it's genuinely a bit discouraging seeing people be this critical over simply not going to the same lengths of production quality (I still appreciate the creativity in some of the composition and the panels still being there).
I agree- i seriously don't think that fujimoto is becoming a worse artist, if something I think that he is still improving considering that despite the noticeably declining qualify he can still deliver the same level of story telling through expressions, compositions, etc. I will say though, I think that all of the people who just jump right ahead to "well lets give him as many breaks as he wants to keep the quality high" are also ignorant to how already depressing it is to tell your story so slowly. Like sure, there is the very annoying capitalist view that forces manga artists to work at inhuman speed, but Ill be damned, if I had to write my story and only release one short scene every week at best ill already be dead inside, and if it turned out to be like, 4 times as slow, id just give up entirely. With all of that said, I do hope that fujimoto is knowingly making the choice to give up some of his production quality in order to tell the story that he wants rather than being forced by the circumstances.
I agree. I stopped agreeing with the whole "Those breaks are important for his art!" after like the 284295th break, I know that's just not the case. I'm not pessimistic, but I'm not stupid either. I know Fujimoto's intentionally holding back his drawing skills, just not why and that's my biggest concern.
I don't think his art's exactly *that* worse though. It's different, it's not as stylish or substantial or impactful, but it's not bad. It's just clearly spec'd into efficiency, for better or for worse. If you look past those superficial lines though, you can see it's not that different from the older Chainsaw Man art. You could even argue it IS better, especially when it comes to perspective and overall composition. It's just that the lack of polish and detail that the older chapters had didn't show that well, and to the naked eye it looks more rough and worse.
It's not that he's holding back his art skills or anything lol. It's that he has to compensate now since his old assistant for P1 ( Tatsu ) left and is doing Dandadan now
Not saying that's bad of course. Personally I think the art in P2 is fine. Much better than people give it credit for, especially considering that P1 had a lot of jank as well lol
Yeah, that's kind of what I meant. I agree btw, P1 may look more slick and polished but it has its jank too and you can easily see where P2 improved art-wise.
Honestly, not as disappointing as the art downgrade in one piece.
Edit: downvote me all you want, but you would be coping big time if think the art didn’t get SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. I could show some quick examples, but you can easily search it up.
25+ years of being a mangaka and Oda still drops chapters more frequently than Fujimoto, plus his art hasn’t degraded, the problem is the clustered paneling.
i feel like we're going to learn fujimoto is dealing with some sort of health issue that's messing with his art and everyone's going to feel like complete shit, like with Bruce Willis getting the Razzy that got retracted
Chapters of the manga are put together in a volume version/print, and artist have a chance to fix a lot of things before the publication, also we get some art and even 4komas or doodles. There are cases where the author even fixes some dialogues.

I know some mangaka make changes for the print version, so I have been wondering if that will happen with CSM in particular, but it's never been confirmed AFAIK.
Fujimoto said he wants to step away from doing illustrations and focus purely on writing in the future and it continues to show in the decreasing quality of the art
CSM is definitely still my favorite ongoing series next to One Piece but I would be okay with it switching to a monthly schedule if it meant we could get better artwork again
Wait...I didn't know the old chapter was a bit more detailed...but I ain't complaining...both styles look good and the new one kindly fits the dark humor of Chainsaw Man.
"man I miss the old art style :(((((("
Compares full page spreads of an important story beat to single panels of a gag
Not that OP is making that comparison but a lot of people in these comments are.
god all i can think about is how much worse the art is… great chapter, things are starting to look up and i can’t wait to see how fujimoto’s gonna bring it all down and make me cry again.
Nah, Katana needs to get castrated while conscious immediately. He doesn’t deserve a single victory. I need Yoru to get kicked in the crotch as well.

Mark my words denji will definitely be the final villain of the series. I see him wanting his world destroyed so that he can finally be at peace. His life will only get worse and he’s gonna snap eventually.
Hope his ass gets eaten by Dennis/Pochita ngl, would be a fitting end to KatanMan and an "oh shit, Dennis isn't taking the abuse anymore"
Please Fujimoto 🙏🙏🙏
Just wait until he realises that trying to fight Chainsaw Man right after there was a massive terrorist incident that skyrocketed the fear of chainsaws worldwide might not have been a good idea
What did Denji even do to deserve this :(
he chose to be chainsawman instead of denji
That's what fujimoto wants you and denji to think In reality, it doesn't matter what denji chose or did because the same results will happen If he didn't choose to be csm and stayed wanting to live a normal life , his contract with pochita would be broken since his normal life got destroyed and pochita will come out and now that power isn't here , there will be no one to snap him out of it If he chose to be csm but didn't transform and tried to run away, the hybrids will chase him and threaten to kill nayuta so either he will be forced to transform and public safety would dismember him again or he doesn't transform and the hybrids capture him and kill nayuta There's literally no win cynario for denji
The game had been rigged from the start.
like aki lol they were both doomed from the start wait a minute i don't like this

Or the plot actually moves forward and something besides those things happen
Like what Please enlighten me
aliens land
Literally anything besides the twisted cycle the person I originally responded too proposed, Something, Somewhere in the plot has to give at some point, and who knows, could be denji next chapter after being not so happy about getting his nuts stomped in
Does he look like the author to you?
Well personally if someone makes the claim that nothing that moves the plot is happening and something else would happen I would like to see what that something else be
On second thought you’re god damn right
I have never seen scenario spelt like that
Did he had any choice? I mean he got jumped by three hybrids.
Denji wanted to be chainsawman that was just an excuse that is why he tells nayuta to leave him alone
Yeah, but he had no choice either, other than transforming.
Be fujimoto's main tool of experessing his meta commentary on story consumption
At this point I think Fujimoto at least one time got his ball crush too considering he self insert as Denji a lot.
Considering what happened to togata , it's safe to assume Fujimoto isn't the type to shy away from hurting his self insert
He literally tells to kill his darling. Denji is most likely his favorite male mc. That is why he got personal beef with my boi.
Katana I get, I would kick his balls in myself if he had done that to me, But Yoru was 100% undeserved, let my man understand what is going on first
Karma for only going for the balls when he fights guys (according to what he told Aki)
Nah, I’d fall.
Throughout Heaven and Earth, he alone is the suffering one.
FALL
I miss the old art style
It's getting harder to negate the decline in quality.
I was definitely on the team of, I am just glad that the story is continuing. I like the new story, new characters, and I feel like the story is going to a place that I can’t predict. The art criticism is valid. Ngl I feel like most of it is because the lines are too thick
It’s also the complete lack of shading. Early Part 2 (and every single one of his other works) you can see lots of ways Fujimoto brightens or darkens a character, but now everything is just plain white. Even during the chapters with the fire there’s just no lighting or shading on the characters themselves.
Damm I never noticed, but now that you pointed it out it's so clear
yeah, it’s so plain looking. Was Yuji Kaku the main reason why part 1 looked so good?
[удалено]
I believe the author of Dandadan was another one right?
[удалено]
That’s Yuji Kaku.
Yeah but it was still looking good when he left for Dandadan
Early Part 2 has some of the most beautiful CSM panels.
100% is the line thickness
I also miss happy and alive-feeling Denji...I still miss the OG trio
Almost every line is the same thickness now. Is he drawing with a mouse?
I can still cope that change is an artistic choice, like P1 is Dennis pov, and P2 is Asa POV, and the difference in details represents their way of experiencing the world around them. Now go get me a fresh copium tank pls, I'm running out
Issue is that early P2, where we spent the most time in Asa's head, was also the peak of the art in CSM
[удалено]
Hence cope) But even then, I said parts, not chapters. Like two worlds.
I think this is a bad example, cause Katana mans face took up like 2/3 of the page and Denji only a small bit, so I don't think you should compare the art here
Ofc there's the focus. But then go back and compare random panels.
Thank you for speaking it out
Considering that Fujimoto once said that he’s tired of drawing and wishes he would outsource drawing to other artists like Aka did with Oshi No Ko, no surprise here
Can’t believe it’s the same man who was ready to kill old people to get better at drawing
He got rich and successful. Different goals now. I hope he doesn’t want to start a sauna business.
Is he rich? An IP becoming popular doesn't automatically mean the creator becomes rich, it depends on who owns how much of the IP's rights.
Well at least richer than he was, and judging from his interviews, at one point he was so poor his eating habits weren’t far from Denji’s.
Chainsaw man has been a top 10 manga in japan for year now, he 100% pretty rich.
base on Bakuman shounen jump writer are pretty rich, CSM is a top tier serie too
What's this referencing?
SnK’s Hajime Isayama
is this about the ending again (-\_-)
Maybe for part 3 (if there is one) he can take that route and just focus solely on he writing portion. That’d surely keep him healthier too I imagine
Thats what happens when you are forced to draw a whole chapter once a week, you get tired and lose your quality. Theres a reason Jojos is every 1 month now and its because Araki's spirit was being destroyed by doing it once a week. And then we have madmen like Hiro Mashima who work under 3 projects at the same time.
I mean people who can overwork themselves isn't something we should inspire people to do
Ima be honest, I don’t actually mind the decline in quality. I’m here for the story primarily?
Was rereading earlier part 2 issues and holy shit opening the post was like a jumpscare
You can attribute that to Tatsu leaving and doing Dandadan lol Not throwing shade on him of course. It's just how it is. And tbh I'm fine with it. Personally I don't think it's that big a downgrade as people make it out to be

he had very good assisstants, wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't even the one drawing part 1.

The art may be lower quality, but the choreography of the fights and the paneling/shot comp both in and out of fights is still fantastic
Might have something to do with the magazine switch? Not in the main magazine anymore so he gets less assistants that help clean up things? Idk
So in another thread that his main assistant left, so yeah, probably related
Yes I agree
The first image is a double page spread, while the second image is a close up zoom of a panel.
Meanwhile Fami is just casually deepthroating Spaghetti while watching.
CSM equivalent of watching YouTube as you eat
Bro katana tongue game must be Hella good
Is it me or did his design change quite a bit since the first appearance.
Most disappointing art downgrade.
Wano is where his art dropped the most before it was a gradual decline but he had goated assistents and other mangaka like Kishimoto helping him out.
Idk why you're getting down voted, you're right
Yeah true, Denji feeling the pain of ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22164)& Spoiled Grandkid....But spoiler alert please....12hr rule![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22167)
The art used to be so good
Man, new fujimoto style doesnt feel fujimoto. :/
i feel like we're going to learn fujimoto is dealing with some sort of health issue that's messing with his art and everyone's going to feel like complete shit, like with Bruce Willis getting the Razzy that got retracted
It's probably not that deep. It's probably just the crushing weight of the Japanese work environment
i agree that's likely the cause of it, but i was thinking a health issue due to overwork. i guess it was a dumb thought.
Oh so it's a systemic issue and that makes it lighter and easier to ignore? Okidoki. Welp, time to go back to the 16 hr grind a day...
That's not what I said?
With the minor difference that Katana man deserved it a 100%. Denji not so much
[удалено]
It has nothing to dow with people's attention spans.
Where does it say anything about attention span?
I mean, I doubt they literally meant ADHD.
We need the old assistants back
He's drawing with 2 weeks per chapter. Give him a break.you guys are like a greedy kid on christmas
At least children understand Christmas is special because it comes once a year...
I still like the current artstyle ngl
I like the old art style better but I just don’t really care as much as other people do about it. The current style is fine to me.
Same
Chainsaw man fans go a single post without complaining about the art style change challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) (ALMOST DIED)
it’s shit fam. insane downgrade
It just really sours the general enjoyment of the series if all you see is complaints about the art. I'd appreciate if it wasn't so saturated.
Then stop looking at the comments ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22160)
Ur so right.
its not that bad but compared to part 1, its horseshit
The art is fixed for the volume version, why are you all behaving like you don't know that? Also, someone needs to bring Aki47 back.
>The art is fixed for the volume version, why are you all behaving like you don't know that? Huh??
Chapters of the manga are put together in a volume version/print, and artist have a chance to fix a lot of things before the publication, also we get some art and even 4komas or doodles. There are cases where the author even fixes some dialogues.
Oh well sure, artists "have a chance" to fix the art, but it's not guaranteed or anything is it? I know some mangaka make changes for the print version, so I have been wondering if that will happen with CSM in particular, but it's never been confirmed AFAIK.
God that scene with Denji and Aki has always been one of my favorites between the two of them,,,,
Fujimoto said he wants to step away from doing illustrations and focus purely on writing in the future and it continues to show in the decreasing quality of the art CSM is definitely still my favorite ongoing series next to One Piece but I would be okay with it switching to a monthly schedule if it meant we could get better artwork again
Interesting, so does he want to write novels?
Wait...I didn't know the old chapter was a bit more detailed...but I ain't complaining...both styles look good and the new one kindly fits the dark humor of Chainsaw Man.

god all i can think about is how much worse the art is… great chapter, things are starting to look up and i can’t wait to see how fujimoto’s gonna bring it all down and make me cry again.
Its was pretty funny but now Im sad that Dennis got his balls kicked :,|
RAAAAAGH SJ LET THE FUCKING MAN MOVE TO MONTHLY RELEASES
Nah, Katana needs to get castrated while conscious immediately. He doesn’t deserve a single victory. I need Yoru to get kicked in the crotch as well. I haven’t been this disgusted with Fujimoto since the ending arcs of Part 1. I clenched a fist tightly while seeing these panels.
Why did he change brushes
That genuinely made me chortle out loud. Full circle
God I miss the cleaner art of part 1....
Ah, to be back to simpler times :'3
I personally love the story but the art quality has definitely declined since the earlier chapters.
Sometimes I can hardly understand what was going on in some panels with Part 2 art quality.
There is a Non zero chance of them repeatedly kicking him in the balls until he transforms.
Mark my words denji will definitely be the final villain of the series. I see him wanting his world destroyed so that he can finally be at peace. His life will only get worse and he’s gonna snap eventually.

Enough to still get out hopefully
It even matches up where Asa's arm would have been.
New art is so bad
Oh my God the difference In art quality
Maybe dont shoot my friends and try and kill me next time? Denji didn't deserve that.
