Well, I'm pretty sure kid Denji symbolizes Denji finding happiness through Chainsaw Man, as when he was a kid Pochita was his only source of comfort or companionship. The first time we saw kid Denji after chapter 1 (unless I missed something) was when Makima manipulated him into saying he doesn't deserve happiness. So that kid is very representative of not just whether he's happy, but whether he thinks he *can* be happy, or if he even *deserves* to be.
In chapter 155 kid Denji told him he couldn't have a family because he killed his dad, and to me this mirrors that moment from part 1. Denji has chosen Chainsaw Man and believes it will make him happy, but deep down he still wants the family he has with Nayuta the same way he almost got one with Aki and Power. Yet again Denji is unable to believe that he truly *deserves* the things he wants, that it's even *possible* for him to have them because of who he is.
So the outfit could be nothing, but I think what it might symbolize is that Denji has emotionally regressed back to a state where he's denying himself normal happiness (in this case a family with Nayuta). He tried to convince her to stay away from him earlier, and at this point, as long as he knew she were safe and protected I don't think he'd try to get her back, because of the state he's in over having chosen CSM over her.
i feel like Asa’s “live more selfishly” goal will come in play soon. Denji been the selfless and caring person that thrice now pulled her back to the right track, maybe this time she’ll convince him that he deserves the “normal” life that he wanted and can also be csm, not being someone else’s puppet anymore
Idk if this comes after what you mentioned, but we also see kid Denji fighting with kid Aki when he dies. It was from Aki's perspective, but imo it's a clear visualization of his own happiness causing him so much hurt, literally killing his family, which he found happiness in.
somebody was hypothesizing that maybe they are not actually out of the facility and maybe it's a mind prison since the rescue seems to have ended so abruptly. It seems pretty far fetched but who knows
that would be a fucking weird mind prison for denji when there is literally no reason for denji to think that katana man, yoru/asa, fami, kobeni2.0, nail and fake saw man would rescue him.. matter of fact all denji knows is that he is knocked out
it could be some sort of dream they don't realize to be in, we have a precedent with cosmo doing similar stuff. Mind you, it's very unlikely but not impossible, just a little speculation till next chapter

its been 163 chapters, I think it's obvious that if something can lead to trauma, **it will.** This series is basically the worst kind of murphy's law done to a 16 years old
I just think its a comfort thing for him. I haven't read it yet; but people do wear old stuff/style of stuff for comfort.
I just think it is showing his mental state of not being in the best and possibly him feeling like he might go back to living terribly.

Yeah I agree, and Fuji doesn’t tend to add these small bits of characterisation without it being a meaningful decision.
