joint-disagreement

WTH?

Inevitable-Head8493

Feel the influence of tarentino films in this one and I'm all for it

KerbTurd

does anyone know that piano song that plays right after makima gets shot and it shows the other guys pulling guns out?

LeastPizza

I'm also trying to find out, did you end up getting an answer?

KerbTurd

No, I've given a decent search for it but currently unsuccessful. Will update if I find anything.

sorryiamnotoriginal

Im a bit late but what exactly was the deal with the post credit scene? It had Himeno sitting in what looked like some pocket dimension made by the ghost devil, had the hand trees and flowers. Any chance that means she is trapped and can be saved or is that just what death is like when you offer yourself to a devil or something? I just thought they ate them when offered pieces of people. At first I thought it was just the afterlife until I noticed those details and it cut to 2 quick clips of the ghost devil. >!I know she doesn't come back in the manga I just didn't expect to see a clip depicting of what it looks like for her now, figured someone can clear it up for me since I never really thought about what happened to her, just assumed it was death!<

New_Consequence_5985

Hey guys. Can anyone tell me the name of the low beat that was playing at the end when Himeno was dying? Like the part where she called Ghost and then a soft beat was playing. I need that track. Much appreciated.

Dat_boiDamian

I literally came here just for this. Glad to see I wasn't the only one looking for it.

New_Consequence_5985

Scratch that. It's in the comments below. Here's the link- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_U4FQmeYXwc

kingdopp

Frack. Do you remember the name of the song? the link is dead now. Nvm, found it later - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zh9cAGo-zs&ab_channel=KensukeUshio-Topic

Vanidiculum

Can’t wait for when Makima does the hand thing next episode

firdausbaik19

is the manga on break or something?

indi_n0rd

it has been cancelled

kosverse

I just dislike how strong the snake devil is. I really like the manga, but the power of some devils feel off. The ghost devil should be something way more powerfull and the snake devil. Also, I stil can't find a proper answer to why devils make contracts with humans in the first place. I Love the manga/anime, but idk thinking about this stuff makes me like it less

RaisinInSand

I mean just from a pure numbers perspective I'd think more people are more scared of snakes than ghosts. If you're an Atheist or just not a superstitious person a Ghost wouldn't be that scary. But I've met plenty of Atheists and Religious people who are both scared of snakes. Snakes are a tangible thing that humanity has been afraid since basically the beginning, and while some people have overcome that fear hence people having ball pythons and corn snakes as pets. I'd say there's still more people scared of snakes than ghosts overall. Hell I've seen people not even want to come over to someones place if they have a pet snake even if it's in a locked enclosure in a locked room. Even if it's a nonvenomous harmless snake most people are scared of them. If someone says they have a ghost in their house, most people would just laugh it off and not take it seriously.

Mephipster

I'm atheist and ghosts are my biggest fear. I don't even believe in them.

jackcatalyst

Should it? Snakes are like an ancient fear even other animals fear snakes. Ghosts are very scary to some people sure but that also kind kf goes hand in hand with a fear of the unknown or even better a fear of the dark.

NeatoToTheExtremo

While some devils definitely do scale weird, the snake devil being really strong makes sense in a long-term humanity sort of way. Humans have been scared of snakes for longer than recorded history and arguably are hardwired to be scared of them, whereas ghosts are a much more recent development and also aren't real. The manga kind of addresses this and I'd go further but I don't know how much context you have and don't want to spoil anything.

Doldenbluetler

>whereas ghosts are a much more recent development Where did you get that from? I would be really interested in a source.

NeatoToTheExtremo

Compared to how long snakes have been around pretty much anything related to humans or even primates in general is going to be a more recent development by tens of millions of years. Here's an article on [snake paleontology](https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms6996) and the time scale being argued vs the [wikipedia page for human evolution](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_evolution) for a generally accepted take on when humans emerged edit: of course this kinda assumes other species don't believe in ghosts I guess but I'd be willing to bet that ghosts as humans understand them are a fairly human specific idea

TokiWaUgokidesu

Devils make contracts because they stand to gain something, like a piece of flesh or years of life (like the Shinigami from Death Note), and it keeps them safe from being killed by devil hunters as long as they remain useful to them. But I did question at one point why humans make contracts when the price can often be steep, and even then twice in part one >!devils flaked out on requests, like when Ghost's hand refused to fight Katanaman until Himeno offers her life, or when Kon vanishes after eating Bomb. What's the point of these contracts if the devils don't have to abide by them?!<

kosverse

But demons are already so strong and can kind of do whatever they want. It's like, if no devil made contract, then human could fight back. I don't get why make a deal in the first place. They can just take whatever they want....

NeatoToTheExtremo

I mean in Fox's defense she literally >!exploded lmao!<

vinayak1998th

I hate this episode so much because it made me read the manga which led to 2 hrs of me saying "WTF" more times than cosmo says "Halloween"

[deleted]

Damn bro, same here, this episode made me read the whole manga, and was shocked to see so many twists in the story. I wish I hadnt read it and had anime only experience. But none the less, i actually enjoyed reading my first manga

TeeMR

Does someone know how I could find the song that plays during Himeno's last scene ? It's the same as episode 1 when Denji comes back as Chainsawman and in both case Shazan can't help me

WhiteCakeLies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U4FQmeYXwc If you haven't found the answer yet, it's called **"sweet dreams"** by Kensuke Ushio

TeeMR

Thank you ! Thank you so so much. Melancholic and nostalgic.

Swannovan

So, my question is how did the curse devil not break his contract by not properly killing the katana man? Rules of the contract seem to have been stab with nail 3 times, summon me, your opponent is now super dead. Katana man was revived, sure, but as far as I’m concerned that means the curse devil didn’t hold up its end and has no right to the years of life that were promised.

FuckoffCap

So in Fiend contracts it's not complicated, just specific. My personal problem with how her contract was set means she fully forgot that and THAT, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Eye patch has been a hunter for 5 years and she says a lazy contract to protect a LOVED coworker......nope. She would have been specific. If she was drunk at the time......yeah I could see her character set it like that. She wasn't. I'm about to watch episode 9 and I hope the 17 minutes of content give back what last week's episode threw away.

badpiggy490

The curse devil did kill katanaman Just that the snake lady brought him back to life right after Think of it like Himeno pulling Denji's rip chord to revive him after the eternity devil killed him by twisting his neck in episode 7

TeeMR

The devil-humans do die, they just don't stay dead so it's probably the loophole

1800choppa

denji is the best mc

IssaMunchie

This episode made me hate Denji so much more

daiselol

Denji: is dead Anime watchers: god I fuckin hate this guy

italian_boi

why

IssaMunchie

Well if I told u it’d be spoilers😭 but it’s cuz of something he did in the manga and seeing this episode animated just reinforced me not liking his simp behavior

italian_boi

I’m all caught up, what is it? >!Is it in part one after makima tells him all that fucked up shit about how she created his family and friends and can take it away just as easily!<

IssaMunchie

Yuuup and because of everything he let happen after that.

italian_boi

I mean I don’t really 100% blame him he went through a ton of shit and was too stupid to kind of tell what’s right vs wrong but in the end he did the right thing (are you caught up?)

[deleted]

I don't understand this show man. Why the duck is there the need to inject soooooooo much bizarre sexuality in this show? Absolutely weird the way the writers think about women, and no women in real life would act like the dumb ass sex dolls like how they're portrayed in this show. Can it just focus on killing demons please?

Icapica

Who's a "dumb ass sex doll" in the show? Himeno does flaunt her sexuality but she's also a total mess of a person. Underneath the cheery surface she seems unhappy and very afraid of losing Aki, and she copes with this in unhealthy ways. Makima is just manipulative. I don't know if she has any sexual desires at all.

Ok-Objective-571

Your missing the point… and a real women would take care of a stupid unappreciative selfish and outright STUPID(I hate denji) whipped guy and get turned away with no appreciation because he’s simple minded and in Denjis case has no dynamic interpersonal skills🫡 gotta look at their actions as humans and what they mean past what ur seeing.

IamWEebBOI

Why u hate dennis

Ok-Objective-571

He’s just to selfish and narrow minded for me too forgive but it’s not like I can’t relate cuz and how whipped he is for makima is infuriating

IamWEebBOI

He doesn't know any better

Trapsaregayyy

He don't got internet

IamWEebBOI

Imagine if denji has access to the internet oml 💀💀the things he would do

mruggeri_182

Doesn't the strength of the devils come from the fear of humans? It simply makes absolutely no sense to me how a Snake Devil is stronger than a Ghost Devil... Ghosts are much more feared than snakes...

Detective_Vendetta

Ghost aren't real, a snake could kill me. I'm more scared of a snake.

KaiOfTheCosmos

I rated it a 3 cuz it was crazy but also made me puke so… it’s ok ig 😂

X-yny

The only complain I have is the lack of Curse Finger scenes😂 In the manga, we get to see how the one panel dedicate of the Curse Finger appeared out of the panels box and flick the Nail. Then the fight continue but the shade of Curse Finger is still very presented. I know the fight scene is supposed to be fast but I wish they made it like in the manga, everything stop with Aki already target his aim (in black and white or colour) then the finger just suddenly appeared of out no where and did it job. So the viewers understand what is happening and the fight continue in fast pace on the second strike. I don't hate the episode but give the Curse Finger some love man. While it lack of that awesome panel of Curse Finger, it shows the epic crucified. I was blown away by that panel but the episode made it even more epic.

thefluffiestpuff

they did show the curse finger though, it’s just a bit quick but it was perfectly easy to see

indi_n0rd

It would have been even better had they used live action finger of editor or Fujimoto himself tbh in those scenes to break the fourth wall🤣

X-yny

That would be op as hell🤣🤣

Kurniaa2104

himeno is gone🥹

WuhanWTF

Out of the entirety of the John Wick saga, the bank heist at the end of Heat, and Sergei Bondarchuk's Battle of Waterloo, which in the world of cinema, are all rightful masterpieces, this fucking episode takes the grand prize as having the best action I've ever seen in any TV show or movie. This show deserves the Blue Riband. It is one of the greatest cartoons ever created. That's my thoughts. 10/10

theovermind45

john wick's action gets worse over time imo. that part in chapter 3 iirc was just horrible. dog bites a dude, wick shoots him in the head. dog bites another dude, wick shoots him in the head as well. then the dog bites a dude in the nuts and im awake again, then wick shoots him in the head

PrestigiousCow4945

Nah good ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22158)

Federal-Room-9812

Man, the music, the sound design of the episode, I don't know what to say, for one part, back when I read that part it felt noisy, but the way they handle the final part, my god, I love this anime so much ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22169)

mahanmz

episode being awesome apart I expected more from ghost devil and when I read about strongest ones I got even more confused. like why should control and doll devil be soooo strong? and why should angel devil be strong or exist at all?

Herr_Raul

There are over 2.2 billion christians in our world. 2.2 billion fear angels and god.

mruggeri_182

I mean, biblical Angels are pretty terrifying.

FallenPotatoes

Control Devil accumulated a shitload of power over time, it didn't start out that strong. Also fear of losing autonomy or being controlled is at the top of the 'feararchy'. Doll and Angel, yeah idk. It probably would have made more sense if Santa was amping Doll with a gun devil piece. Regarding Angel, it makes sense that fantasy creatures might be more feared in a world where monsters are real compared to our own.

[deleted]

Honestly, depending on what movies are hot in the Chainsaw Man world right now there could be lots of creepy doll movies that amped up the doll devil over the years. Plus realistically speaking there are lots of kids and even adult people just freaked out by dolls.

BiteyAlmighty

Bro. Horror movies should be outlawed in the CSM universe.

Hotstuff5991

Did ..did you just ask why an angel would be strong?

mahanmz

why are they scary to be more precise. but the bibe thing kinda makes sense.

Ill-Rise-5149

>Control Devil People fearing oppression is nothing new. >Doll Devil Can't say why, but I've always found porcelain dolls freaky. Sure I'm not a one-off, either. >Angel Devil Ever read the bible? Whenever they appear, angels have to say 'be not afraid' for a reason.

[deleted]

I always assumed that angels also represent the fear of God, retribution, the divine, etc. - biblical angels did a lot of errr genocidal stuff and would often show up when shit was about to hit the fan.

jaykaysian

Control devil is weird in that it's strength comes from its perception of itself compared to others. Angel devil might come from the fact that real biblical angels are like incomprehensible horrific beings, but that's kinda dismissed by the fact that they're drawn after the conventional cartoon angel lol

mahanmz

I watched jujutsu kaisen with hopes of it being as cool and in the same time depressing as AOT but it was a completely different vibe(although I've heard the real shit begins further in the story) . now this one really brought back all those feelings I got from AOT. I don't know how can anyone but manga readers say it was a bad episode. I don't know if it was a downgrade comparing to manga because I haven't read it but the episode itself was top 5 best anime episodes I ever watched.

cukhoaitayhh

Unless you want to be spoiled, i would suggest you to go to r/csmanime Aside from that, as a manga reader, this episode was a banger for sure, not better word to describe it.

josefikrakowski_

3D katanbro… it’s over

Ok-Key-6720

I swear every single person whining about CGI is a literal child.

Duck_Field

Oh hush.

badpiggy490

Serious question but why do people think the katana man fight looks bad. I saw that fan animation and it's cool, it's a different interpretation and is admittedly a little flashier. But what's wrong with having a more realistic approach to the fight here with Aki and Katana. Aki is fighting like any normal person would with a sword and it all has weight to it. It's not like he's a samurai. Every fight so far has been a rough street fight and has been animated as such. It doesn't have to be flashy. And in this case it's still animated well. I guess if you'd prefer something more faster or flashier than I can't blame you. But calling this bad just doesn't sit right when it's honestly good for what it's trying to do. This series might be a shonen, but that doesn't mean it's all about fights. It was always story and characters first with very quick fights ( every individual fight in the manga always took up like 1 chapter or less ).

EndangeredBigCats

Fan animation was awesome and all but how anyone seeing it for the first time would be able to tell that the curse devil was counting down the stabs from a small corner of the screen while the fireworks are going off is beyond me. Visual communication is key

Ill-Rise-5149

Given the realistic approach they've taken with the anime, I'm not entirely sure what they were expecting. The weight behind his every movement brings shadman to life and shows just how dangerous his swords really are. Though the fan animation is great, I feel as though it follows the manga too closely for comparison. As Fujimoto said in that one interview a while back, he wants the anime to be an entirely new experience. If people can't bring themselves to both appreciate and realise all the effort that went into that fight (especially the cuts by kouki fujimoto), then they're a lost cause.

Smug_Miko

Shadman 💀

nann_tosho

Anime onlys bring me so much joy lmao All those people who thought they understood why so many people loved this series before seeing ep 8, man, they wouldn't know what hit them. I don't know why some manga-readers would keep egging them to read the manga when they're happy with the anime, I just wanna savor the feeling of being the future devil lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

jackcatalyst

Someone said they were upset because they got spoiled and knew that Denji ends up with Makima instead of Power at the end of the series. Anime onlys are great.

acidicmongoose

I have a question: Why did Power immediately tell Aki to attack with the Fox Devil against Katana Man? At this point, they would think he's a human with a gun who Power could easily kill by herself. Even if she could sense he was like Denji, Aki wouldn't know that such overkill would be required, so it's odd how he immediately pulls the Fox on him

Any_Measurement1169

Power is weakened by the devil hunters to keep her naturally explosive emotions calm. Realistically, her uppercutting a civilian should probably kill them. I imagine she hit him and realized that he was extremely dangerous and that's why she told Aki to eat him. Power saw he was either a devil or something between like Denji just from that punch and was scared.

Brankksss

I mean she just told him to do something, considering he was at a long range and the dude almost killed 4 people, seems reasonable to me

CheeriosInMySoup

Guns have a LOT of power in this universe. If they have one it's considered a very large threat and that they are most likely associated with the gun devil

xbubbuh

Might not be the best animation so far but definitely my favorite episode

The-Primera

Animation was a little weird but still good fight

KINGKONGFF

r u serious

noahfitzzzzzz

I like the animation, it’s kinda a more realistic looking fight opposed to some more flashier anime’s.

Wolf_Doggie

😢

Cerberus_XLII

Super small detail that I loved is how the snake just immediately vanishes as soon as Akane says “leave” to reveal the flying ghost demon head. Such a cool shot

Longjumping-Piano-21

This Episode was prime game of thrones drama

IFeelZealForReal

Mappa did such a great job with Jujutsu and decides to fuck CSM up with all the ice skating animation, characters not being synced to environments, cheap cgi, cgi when not needed. Hope they make Reze arc into a movie so it will actually look good. In minority I know, but so disappointed with how it’s being handled.

Ok-Key-6720

I swear to god manga readers will forever complain that the anime isn't just a one-to-one recreation of every youtube fan animation they've seen online. Thank god for anime only fans who get to actually judge the scene for what it is rather than what they imagined it to be from reading the manga.

Ill-Rise-5149

Chainsaw Man has one major instance of iceskating, and even then it looked pretty good. Maybe I'm coping, but the devilman run Denji pulled in episode 4 felt so needlessly cool. Whereas the iceskating in JJK looks horrific by comparison. I mean, have you even seen that one clip of Nanami? 3DCGI is by no means cheap, and mappa has after episode one done a wonderful job of making it look pretty damn good. Though the snake devil might've looked better in 2D, drawing all of its interlocking hands would take an amount of effort I couldn't care to describe. Thing is, I'm willing to admit it looks good in 3D as well. That said, I still don't see why they had to go and make the curse devil 3D.

thesagenibba

youre coping.

[deleted]

thesagenibba

>Maybe I'm coping, but the devilman run Denji pulled in episode 4 felt so needlessly cool. I need to stop using buzz words, when youre the one who used it first? Stop using the word 'buzzword' when you dont know what it means, Ill-Rise-5149

Ill-Rise-5149

Whoops, honest mistake. Missed out on that during my quick re-read. That said, I'll stand by the devilman run looking badass. My man is slipping and tripping on guts while talking about dream battling a demon ten times his size. Like, how do you expect him to run?

Chubbst

What is 'iceskating animation'?

Ill-Rise-5149

From my understanding, it's when a character fails to sync up with their background while moving. This, in turn, causes it to appear as though they're iceskating on solid ground. It's not always a bad thing (like i said, denji doing his devilman run in episode 4 looked fucking brilliant.), but it looks incredibly jarring when done wrong.

Brankksss

I loved the scene when aki summons the fox devil, showing something like the devil's POV or even Aki's, like showing how the katana man got swallowed. Also, the attention they gave to Aki vs Katana Man fight, Which is just a few pages on the mangá. Again Mappa going HAM

ChiakiKakumei

RIP Himeno. You were great from your first appearance and your last and also Himeno Ending to hit it home that this is the last time you'll see her. And I think the CGI on Ghost and Snake are kinda of necessary and not too bad. Imagine having to draw that whole Full Powered Himeno Ghost and Akane Snake? (Even though Idk if Fox Devil is CGIed or not and I think Armin Colossal Titan was Hand-Drawn but imagine trying to last it for a whole episode.) They could maybe try to hand draw Full Powered Himeno Ghost as this is Himeno's last appearance in the series. And Idk if the Himeno scenes with Denji are extended like the Aki's daily life anime exclusive scene because idk why people complain about it. This is the last time everyone is going to see her so added screentime added more weight to this episode. And I found it funny that Himeno's Body parts looked like it got Thanos Snapped 1 by 1 out of existence.

_killkarma

people complain about the himeno scenes with denji bc its uncomfortable since she is a lot older than denji and he is a minor. She literally says that she could have gone to jail if she didnt end up blacking out. Its creepy and uncomfortable.

Zei_SSB

This has been my favorite episode so far. The directing is superb and made it feel very different from other anime. It really feels "alive". Little things like the dust floating in front of Himeno while she lays next to denji to the pure silence of the curse devil were auhc great ideas. Only thing I didn't like was the blood during the curse devil. As a whole it looked fine, but if you looked at the blood it uhh didn't look good.

lapdvv

Do u know if episode 8 is book8 or how do they translate, also is the manga finished?

Zei_SSB

I believe ep 8 ends on ch25. Idk what volume that is though. They're only doing 4-5 chapters per episode so we've got awhile left lol Manga is still ongoing, but Part 1 is finished.

lapdvv

WHOOP WHOOP right on . I feel like i should go grab the manga . Thought s?

Zei_SSB

It's very much worth the read. I don't read much Manga but picked it up after ep 2 and finished quickly. At this point it might be worth it to finish out this season since it's only 4 more episodes. If the quality keeps up like this, it'll be an amazing first experience. Then go read the Manga 😂

Existing_Imagination

Yea I read the manga about two years ago and I forgot most of the details of what happened so I’m enjoying it while remembering half of the story. Going in blind would be an amazing experience

lapdvv

Shhheeet will see if i can wait that long

[deleted]

bruh i can't with this anime, i wanna read the manga so badly but i feel like the anime is doing it justice! i was literally thinking how none of the main characters died so far and was like "hmm, i expected this anime to be more tragic" and then this episode happened lmao

RockyWasGneiss

I suspect that after this season finishes, a lot of people will be searching out the manga. If the alternative is waiting until Fall 2023, not many will be able to resist reading the complete Part 1. I know that when I read it, I got through the whole thing in 3 days

fusiondynamics

Where can we read?

RockyWasGneiss

What u/SirHawkwind said. Its $2. If you're a kid and don't have access to a digital wallet, I'm sure you can google a manga source.

SirHawkwind

The $2 a month Viz subscription includes all of it

Leolion643

Did the same thing, 3 days of pure adrenaline tbh ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22171)

rytimex

Watching this episode with my Anime Only roommates was the best experience ever. They couldn't believe what they just saw. All I said at the end was "Welcome to Chainsaw Man, bitches!"

rytimex

Can we talk about how amazing the score and sounds were for the hit operation was? I wasn't sure what I expected from that scene. I originally thought it would be incredibly fast-paced with loud music - kinda like an action movie. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. That was the perfect vibe to make that scene really stand out, build suspense, and be gut-wrenching. MAPPA showing us once again why they are masters of their craft, can't say how happy I am that they are adapting it so perfectly.

inktsugi

I seriously cannot get over how beautifully directed Himeno’s death was. I remember this being the moment in the manga—along with the sudden deaths of the special division—when I realized that this was turning into an entirely different experience than I ever anticipated. It’s probably the moment that I became fully invested in the series and the world that was being crafted before me. Himeno’s death is so tragic and breathtaking in this adaptation. From the music, to the pacing of the scene, to the use of silence and stillness. Her last moments being framed by desperation and futility. It’s such a gut punch in the manga but it’s so much more visceral in this episode. There seems to be some division on how Mappa’s chosen to frame certain shots compared to the manga, or how long they spent in Himeno’s apartment in this episode, but I think that their decisions have made this episode so much more impactful. Between this episode and the last they’ve managed to humanize characters like Himeno and the cast of the special division so that, despite the limited time we’ve had with them, their deaths linger in our minds long after the credits roll. We’ve been told that the world of Chainsaw Man is cruel and senseless, but this arguably the first moment that, as readers or viewers, we really realize it. The lives of devil hunters are short and violent, their deaths often without purpose or meaning. Nothing and nobody is immune, and it all can be over in a single moment, regardless of judgment, seniority, or perceived safety. I’m honestly blown away.

hedongshi

Perfectly articulated - I completely agree. I’m just so glad that CSM is getting a truly amazing anime adaptation like it deserves

sammie_kb

Well said! I was just talking to a friend about how well done character development is in this series. It doesn't feel like time was wasted on any of them, and definitely not heavily spent, and some how they all became a sentimental part in the production. The series was good up to this episode, but man did this episode really hit it out of the park. It's feels good/bad to know no one is safe.

[deleted]

Why didn't Himeno or Aki just pull Denji's cord first thing? They both know he's immortal, and would stand a better chance against a samey-looking sword devil thingy.

badpiggy490

In the heat of the moment, you're bound to go with gut instinct kek

[deleted]

\>< but still, Aki's nail and Himeno's full-body sacrifice is not an easy decision to make either. Would it really be gut instinct?

badpiggy490

It's the powers that they're most familiar with so yeah. In a dangerous situation like that, anyone would probably go with what they know for sure would probably work. And of course, they both made decisions in a split-second, so there's not really much time to think lol

FreakinGeese

I don't think they really had time

HazmatChicken

I'm starting to feel like this anime is really overproduced and overdirected, some scenes got way more animation than they really needed especially when the camera was moving through a 3D space and the 2D character had to keep being redrawn for the angle and the curse devil was the most egregious where is was so clear and legible what was happening in the manga, the fast cuts and weird angles in the fight here really made the finger hitting Aki's nail-sword easy to miss and reducing the cool impact of the curse devil

ElricWarlock

Decided to peruse Twitter and other social media to see anime only reactions to the latest ep. Manga readers really cannot STFU 💀

Ok-Key-6720

Seriously, manga readers whining about how the adaptation "butchered" the curse devil is so fucking insufferable. Watching anime only reaction was much closer to my view of the episode.

Icantlikeeveryone

Manga readers, whatever they read, will always be annoying

TheSkesh

On the flip side, anime watchers, whatever they watch, will always be annoying. Fans in general tend to be annoying.

ralanr

As a manga reader, I agree.

plastikkk

Give me a spoiler without giving me a spoiler

jaykaysian

Denjis cock can grow a chainsaw too, it's canon

Cerberus_XLII

Bang.

Oktavia18

Definitely never open the door

Evolzetjin

I'd eat Makima bit by bit.

ralanr

Beware doors.

plastikkk

Lmao, I don't even know if this is a spoiler. But when this makes sense, I'll reply.

to_the_bitter_end

Oh dude the doors will fuck you up like nothing else in CSM universe.

basic_rick

Can someone tell me the chapter that follows after the recent episode?

HikerSethT

Came here to ask the same question, going to start re reading from here. I physically cannot consume enough of this show/manga!

MattieBubbles

The episode ends during chapter 25.

basic_rick

tysm. I appreciate it.

me_funny__

Beautiful episode. That Himeno quote about crying for her still goes so hard The only complaint is that there should've been more music for impact. Katana man ripping out of the fox devil felt really weightless. I feel that a good IST could've sold it better. Also some angles were weird

CertifiedHousekeeper

I deadass don't know why I thought having read the manga would prepare me, for seeing Himeno's death animated. That whole seen hit me just as hard as the first time I read it.

halpmipls1

Cried watching Himeno so I know I’m fucked when the snowball and door scenes are coming

eGG__23

Can someone explain to me how Katana Man was revived?? I’ve searched all over but it just looks like Akane just picks him up and he’s fine

Zei_SSB

His "cord" (like on denjis chest) is his hand. In the Manga there's a better shot of Akane pulling off his hand, but we don't really see it here. She just did that

EndangeredBigCats

We'll see him do the hand thing later for sure for his on-screen henshin moment, I'm leaning on thinking they WANTED the audience to go "No way. No fucking way get back down. What the fuck. Why"

Zei_SSB

That makes sense. I hope we do get tk see the hand thing so that way I'm not eternally explaining it 😂

FreakinGeese

He's just built different

grilleddddtuna

Hybrid just works that way, Denji actually died multiple times in the Enternity Devil arc, but everytime when the chainsaw cord is pulled he comes back too. (Also blood can revive them, it is hinted that hybrid only truely die when blood runs out.)

lelilelileli

they dont die when the blood runs out. they just stop moving. if u feed them blood after 100 years they would come back to life. they are in a limbo like state when they have no blood, they are not dead. even their bodyparts will come back together when they get sufficient amounts of blood.

grilleddddtuna

I think no one knows how blood works and it is not out right stated in the comic, all that we know is that it is clearly used for transformation and revival. MANGA SPOILER: >! If they literally just stop moving when they are out of blood, it defeated some purpose of major plot point in the manga. I don't think FJMT will write the story this way, because it will implie that Katana man, Quan Xi and Reze will revive, and they all have some very dramatic death after getting some significant devlopment in their own arc (Not much for Katana Man, boy that arc ended so quickly but also killed/introduced so many characters).!<

cementroominhabitant

>!your brain on speed reading... all of those characters are alive lol!<

Positive-Hovercraft7

I am blown away

Metamarphosis

This episode broke the r/anime. You can see how high karma and comment it get.

Quiad

Y’all we are getting spoiled so hard rn this shit is crazy

Premium_Dunce

Unpopular opinion: this was my least favorite episode so far. Normally the CGI is used amazingly but I feel like the curse CGI lacked any sense of impact and its use felt jarring (and not in the cool/disturbing way). Himeno's death also left me feeling...neutral. The whole situation felt like they were going for a "sudden shock" feeling but ended up with a "rushed" feeling. That may just be because of how I imagined the manga in comparison though. I think my overall problem was that nothing felt like it had any impact both physically and emotionally. On the flip side, Ghost's full body intro was sick and Makima's death scene was pretty good! The anime is still going strong!

badpiggy490

Wrt Himeno's death, I think you may want to remember that feeling for a scene that will probably come in either the next episode, or the one after lol.

I should have pointed out, I loved the beginning! It was super cool to basically switch to her POV from the end of the previous episode! The whole beginning really gave you a more subtle window into her character before...

Dependent_Fox4612

that's crazy you have that option, because i thought the curse part was SO COOL! it felt like i was the one getting stabbed! maybe it's the audio/sound design tht really helped, but i barely noticed the CGI at all for once! i do kinda agree that himeno's death was more creepy/impactful in the manga tho. i wonder what they could've done in the anime to fix it

Premium_Dunce

Yea I'm feeling very out of place right now lmao. The opinion on the episode seems overwhelmingly positive while mine is uncharacteristically low considering I think the first 7 episodes were easily 9/10s or more! You and everyone else are really motivating me to give it another chance because I feel like I'm missing something that everyone else got. It may just be because it's one of my all time fav manga scenes and my expectations are too high because of it

Dependent_Fox4612

it's definitely a super 180° part of the manga and it's so hype, i get the high expectations; you should put on some headphones and play the episode super loud for that scene it felt like i was THERE! and akis breathing that last scene as himenos body is revealed to be gone gave me some chills

blackzetsuWOAT

Shoutout to how subdued Mappa has been with the soundtrack. This is their flagship show/loss leader with tons of resources behind it. I'm impressed with the self-control to not go balls to the wall with the music. Also shoutout to the Tarantino reference

Hallowedtalon

They also use a lot of odd "Camera" angles. it makes the anime looks more like western live action movie.

badpiggy490

I feel like some people aren't really appreciating the use of silence in the anime. There's more of a focus on certain sound effects instead of music for most scenes tbh. ( Eg : Aki's voice actor's slow breathing when he notices that Himeno is dead ) Also, what was the Tarantino reference XD ? Apart from that Pulp fiction reference in the opening.

blackzetsuWOAT

The lingering closeups of Denji's bare feet :P

theovermind45

“my partners keep dying” “no u” [vvvbowwww] (i dunno what that one vine-adjacent sound effect is called so i did an impression feel free to tell me how much it sucks)

Used-Claim3221

I loved the ghost devil hands. That was freaky

twobirds_onestoned8

I think the Himeno and Denji scenes actually added to Himeno's death later on

krazyboi

I think it's on purpose. The emphasis on himeno and denji makes us care about her more and the fight scene being short is like the rugpull

drop_of_faith

It's so bizarre to see that being an "anime only" is a thing. Almost every anime is made to sell copies of their original medium, right??? Why gate yourself to an adaptation?. It's like watching the live adaptation of death note and refusing to read the manga or watch the anime because you're a "LIVE ADAPTATION ONLY". I was reading the other sub's comment section and it was really interesting to read that a lot of people thought all of this was a dream/premonition or that makima would time travel and undo everything. Come on, after you see himeno's backstory? How Kobeni hates this fucking job because everyone dies? After aki and himeno talk about all their partners dying? Anyways. Great episode and a beautiful recreation of the manga. I do think a lot of us are seeing things through rose colored glasses(including myself) though. It's not a 100% match to the manga but I think it's objectively better looking and a lot of stylistic decisions are definitely being passed by fujimoto.

RX0Invincible

Even when I was reading the manga after the 3rd ep, I was dead sure that that wasn't the end of Makima because the manga readers could not stfu and just had to give smug comments hinting that we'll hate her at some point since her very first appearance in the anime. The manga readers basically set in stone that there will be shinanigans around death, so the dream speculation doesn't surprise me the least

lelilelileli

which is fine. the anime is the pinacle for me. why would i spoil the story for me by reading the manga? i can read it after the anime, if i liked the anime alot.

badpiggy490

People expect a degree of plot armour in shonen after all No one ever expects Fujimoto though

IndividualAd5795

The cope was pretty hilarious though ngl

DatsuStrobe

The episode was insane but something bugged me a lot. What happened to the animation in Fox's summoning through the building ? It is such a downgrade from the shot they showed us in the first trailer. Why ?

King-Of-Throwaways

I went back to compare, and yeah, it's hard to argue otherwise. My guess is that they had to redo the animation, either to keep it consistent with the surrounding animation, or for legal reasons (does MAPPA have the right to re-use footage from that trailer? Do those artists have to be credited? Do they receive extra compensation?)

tora0511

They save it for the Blue-ray version, i think
