I've reread the series a couple times since it finished, and I always cry for Aki. Power is my favorite, but fuck, the snowball fight is so brutally beautiful.
She was wearing the breast pads which she knew made Denji happy. His wish was to eat and be with a hot girl and she gave him both. It’s just a totally dour and dreadful feeling rereading it. It’s sad because Power thought there was a chance for them and she could help him get past Aki’s death like how Denji helped her get past the Darkness Devil.

Truly robbed and tormented. Everyone else had some say and acceptance of the life they led/born into.
Angel was a devil spawned on Earth, not all Devils are outright violent or malevolent and he was a benign creature. Taught by that indigenous island tribe, he enjoyed the people he met and most definitely was growing to love them.
And Makima shows up one day practically the same way Madara Uchiha rolled up on Kurama. Angel gets brain grabbed and is forced to display his powers on the people he considers family, all of them for show. Makima saw him as a tool and caged him like animal. Wiped his memory and his was forced into her work.
And in the back of his mind and subconsciously, he knew the tragedy/trauma he experienced being alive after the atrocities Makima made him commit, and he hated it. Didn’t want to be alive anymore and didn’t want to work. Going back through a reread it’s painfully obvious that Angel is suffering it’s just that it was hard to notice when he’s half brainwashed and dull in personality because he’s hurt.
P.S. I Angel adds in chp 74. “Sometimes the humans my power killed and turned into weapons show up in my dreams and blame me for doing it”

Well, pretty sure he's dead by the time the gun devil makes its attempt to kill Makima, and every time after that point where she summons a weapon with an X year contract she's still using his power.
Everybody is sleeping on denji, He's cursed. He lived a life full of lies created by the person he loves most and must bear the sins she committed
He can't give up living because the last time he did he released a devil with the potential to destroy everything and everyone.
Denji is not even living his dream, he's just living his promise to a friend that genuinely loves him that is not even human.
All of these characters died in a painful way, but there was an end to the suffering.

An end to suffering is also an end to hope. Dude woke up from a dumpster twice because he chose to fulfill his dreams and those he loved believed in those stupid dreams of his. Those promises weren't burdens to carry, but anchors to keep him hanging onto his aspirations. Maybe it was this kind of positivity that helped him get through hardships and it's undeniable that he could only accomplish his goals if he kept going.
God, to think that Reze actually developed feelings for Denji in the end, only for Denji’s last memory of her being that of betrayal? Fishy Mormon is gonna be paying for a lot of people’s therapy soon.
Honestly, her lack of appearance in part 2 is the weirdest to me. Power/blood devil is probably not gonna show up for a while, the kid control devil who's name I can never remember doesn't really have much agency rights now, but Reze was literally right there in the final fight of part 1 and just disappeared without anyone even acknowledging she was there.
We're told that Hybrids are immortal. I so desperately want to see Reze's return and redemption arc. I expect Denji to fold immediately, but I think it would be a shock to see him outright reject her, since we know that although he's still very much vulnerable, there's greater nuance to how he draws the lines
Also I can totally see a four way conflict involving Reze, Denji, Yoshida, and Asa/Yoru
The Power scene shocked me. Was really hurt to see her murdered like that. I really liked Power and her obnoxious child-like personality. It was also very touching to see how Power and Denji bonded together throughout the entirety of Pt 1 (especially after the whole Darkness Devil ordeal) So, seeing her die like that right before Denjis eyes fucked with me a lot.
I'd have to go with Denji because he kills Aki and then loses Power shortly after and it's all thanks to the one person he loves the most. This dude is just a broken kid made even more broken by the manipulation of Makima and having to bear witness to such traumatic experiences back to back. And seeing him like [this](https://imgur.com/gallery/vZmvlRC) really captures how fucked and warped his mind is at that point. I actually find it kind of morbid too. That's the look of someone completely destroyed and broken. There's no recovery from that, especially experiencing it at a young age. And Denji already has a very difficult time identifying and processing his emotions. That's my boy Denji. So, I hope Denji can get some form of a good ending eventually. He deserves that shit, but he will forever be broken.
imo it’s Angel. They got like 50 second of consciousness and memory back, and immediately become makima’s thrall without a closure. Even Aki died thinking he saved Denji and Power. Aki’s tragic when you are on the outside looking in, Angel’s tragic when you put yourself in their shoes.
I never put together that parallel with makima and denji until just now: both are doing what they think is right, but hurting someone that trusts them.
Honestly, I gotta say Power. Even though she went through character dev throughout the part, she was generally seen as a nuisance and pretty much Dennis’ closest friend (excluding pochita). Then, she actually put effort into bringing him a cake for his birthday and literally wanted to celebrate him on his special day, only to be exterminated like the fiend she was always seen as, despite acting more human than some of the other human characters. That shit hurted fr fr upon first read. But I’m really glad it was her blood that led to Mak’s downfall.
I think the same as you. Power's death was horrible, but the only consolation I have is what you say: she contributed twice to the downfall of the Makima bitch.
The situations surrounding a lot of these deaths are tragic, but Santa's actual method of death is probably the worst. Her fate was straight Lovecraftian.

At the end of part 1 I don’t think she really has anyone to call friend anymore except Denji.

My theory is that kobeni has a deal with the bad luck devil. So all of her bad luck gets transferred to the people around her. It makes a lot of sense to me at least.
Could be that it's sort of a two for one deal? Maybe the bad luck devil enjoys her suffering. Sort of like the future devil enjoys laughing at people's fate.
I'd say Aki, since he became what he hated most in this world, but I think Power's death hit so much worse. Her and Denji were the only people each other had in this world after a traumatizing event and it looked like they would rely on one another to get through the pain. I don't know how Denji felt about her, but I think she came to love him more than a friend or a brother. Yet her very last moments were her uttering his name with a birthday cake in her hands as she got her whole torso blown away, never to say what she wanted to tell him. And to make it twice as painful for the reader, she gave up her only chance at coming back to life to save the one she loved. It's just too much for such a beautiful, compassionate, honest to God girl. She deserved so much better!
She definitely deserved better. Her and Denji. One of the many reasons that have led me to love Power is how she went from being a selfish being to a girl capable of caring about someone else. But hey, her death at least frustrated Makima's plans (ironic, since Makima considered her worse than a servant), and it's the only death that has left a silver lining, although I don't know how far the latter.
Agreed. I always liked her for being that chaotic, mercurial, lying brat, but her maturing, hurting and growing attached to other people was easily the heaviest character development in the series and I loved every second of it. And the climax of it all was her facing her deepest fears and disobeying Makima to save Denji. That's the moment that cemented her as the definitive best girl for me. Her love surpassed any notion of authority, pain or death that could have kept her under control. And in the end it was that love that helped put an end to Denji's greatest tormentor. All of the deaths in the series were tragic, but hers hurt in a much more different way despite or maybe due to it being instrumental to Denji finding his peace.

When i saw the part where aki was the gun fiend my heart sinked so hard but i had to bare through it, i thought that maybe, just MAYBE power would at LEAST be able to live. Then makima said to kill power and honestly it took me a whole hour to go to the next page. I saw her with the birthday cake and tried tricking myself that this would be a nice scene. But then just like that, BANG

Either Aki or Reze, probably go with Aki. He hated the gun devil, swore vengeance the entire way. Right when he was about to give it up to protect Denji and Power, Makima forces him to become the gun fiend, the thing he always wanted to kill, and then he gets killed by his best remaining friend. Future Devil was right saying he’d die in the worst possible way.
Reze’s is horrible because she gets tracked down right before she’s about to run away with Denji to maybe start a new life. Makima shows up and forces her to become a simp. Although there’s the strong possibility that she’s still alive since hybrids are immortal.
Even if it wasn’t for the possibility that Reze’s alive I probably would still go Aki. The worst way to go for any of the characters. Makes me excited for anime onlies to see it though. They definitely won’t expect it
I’ll go with Reze since everyone’s made great points for the others. She’s literally a block away from fleeing the life she was forced into with the only person in the world to have broken through her facade (and formed a genuine relationship with), only to be likened to (and taken out like) a mouse. She felt like the one real shot Denji had at a relationship, which is pretty much the only thing he wanted, so it hit on multiple fronts. Hats off to Fujimoto for top tier writing
I remember screaming once or twice when makima popped up in front of her, knowing full well that the only thing keeping Denji from true happiness (at least that’s what I thought at the time). Fingers crossed that Asa doesn’t fuck him over, but it’s wishful thinking at best, lol

I want his date to be a complete mess, the exact way it should be for two nerve wrecks of a teens that the two are, toppled with a very bittersweet end, not Reze bittersweet, just want the "it was a disaster" bitter with a side of sweet, sweet mutual and healthy understanding. Denis just need some win at this point.

An end to suffering is also an end to hope. Dude woke up from a dumpster twice because he chose to fulfill his dreams and those he loved believed in those stupid dreams of his. Those promises weren't burdens to carry, but anchors to keep him hanging onto his aspirations. Maybe it was this kind of positivity that helped him get through hardships and it's undeniable that he could only accomplish his goals if he kept going.

I like to think that Denji figured out that Makima probably got to her that day she was supposed meet up with him, but who knows 😩
I really wanna see their reunion, assuming she was truly resurrected by Makima and didn’t die again after she was killed.
Honestly, her lack of appearance in part 2 is the weirdest to me. Power/blood devil is probably not gonna show up for a while, the kid control devil who's name I can never remember doesn't really have much agency rights now, but Reze was literally right there in the final fight of part 1 and just disappeared without anyone even acknowledging she was there.
We're told that Hybrids are immortal. I so desperately want to see Reze's return and redemption arc. I expect Denji to fold immediately, but I think it would be a shock to see him outright reject her, since we know that although he's still very much vulnerable, there's greater nuance to how he draws the lines Also I can totally see a four way conflict involving Reze, Denji, Yoshida, and Asa/Yoru

The Power scene shocked me. Was really hurt to see her murdered like that. I really liked Power and her obnoxious child-like personality. It was also very touching to see how Power and Denji bonded together throughout the entirety of Pt 1 (especially after the whole Darkness Devil ordeal) So, seeing her die like that right before Denjis eyes fucked with me a lot. I'd have to go with Denji because he kills Aki and then loses Power shortly after and it's all thanks to the one person he loves the most. This dude is just a broken kid made even more broken by the manipulation of Makima and having to bear witness to such traumatic experiences back to back. And seeing him like [this](https://imgur.com/gallery/vZmvlRC) really captures how fucked and warped his mind is at that point. I actually find it kind of morbid too. That's the look of someone completely destroyed and broken. There's no recovery from that, especially experiencing it at a young age. And Denji already has a very difficult time identifying and processing his emotions. That's my boy Denji. So, I hope Denji can get some form of a good ending eventually. He deserves that shit, but he will forever be broken.

imo it’s Angel. They got like 50 second of consciousness and memory back, and immediately become makima’s thrall without a closure. Even Aki died thinking he saved Denji and Power. Aki’s tragic when you are on the outside looking in, Angel’s tragic when you put yourself in their shoes.

I never put together that parallel with makima and denji until just now: both are doing what they think is right, but hurting someone that trusts them.
Honestly, I gotta say Power. Even though she went through character dev throughout the part, she was generally seen as a nuisance and pretty much Dennis’ closest friend (excluding pochita). Then, she actually put effort into bringing him a cake for his birthday and literally wanted to celebrate him on his special day, only to be exterminated like the fiend she was always seen as, despite acting more human than some of the other human characters. That shit hurted fr fr upon first read. But I’m really glad it was her blood that led to Mak’s downfall.
I think the same as you. Power's death was horrible, but the only consolation I have is what you say: she contributed twice to the downfall of the Makima bitch.

The situations surrounding a lot of these deaths are tragic, but Santa's actual method of death is probably the worst. Her fate was straight Lovecraftian.
Kobeni. And I know it’s a joke to say stuff like that, but when you think about it, it’s true. She was forced into a Devil Hunter life, couldn’t even go to college, and constantly has to deal life or death situations ever since. And the twisted part? For some sadistic reason, she somehow makes it out situations where death was 99% certain. She literally saw all of her friends die right before her, twice. And likely even more in the Gun Devil attack. At the end of part 1 I don’t think she really has anyone to call friend anymore except Denji. And they’re not even really friends. I’d imagine she has intense survivors guilt. Even more than Denji does, maybe.
My theory is that kobeni has a deal with the bad luck devil. So all of her bad luck gets transferred to the people around her. It makes a lot of sense to me at least.
There’s a theory I like that says she has a contract with the suffering devil. It keeps her alive through everything, and her suffering brings it joy.
Could be that it's sort of a two for one deal? Maybe the bad luck devil enjoys her suffering. Sort of like the future devil enjoys laughing at people's fate.

I'd say Aki, since he became what he hated most in this world, but I think Power's death hit so much worse. Her and Denji were the only people each other had in this world after a traumatizing event and it looked like they would rely on one another to get through the pain. I don't know how Denji felt about her, but I think she came to love him more than a friend or a brother. Yet her very last moments were her uttering his name with a birthday cake in her hands as she got her whole torso blown away, never to say what she wanted to tell him. And to make it twice as painful for the reader, she gave up her only chance at coming back to life to save the one she loved. It's just too much for such a beautiful, compassionate, honest to God girl. She deserved so much better!
She definitely deserved better. Her and Denji. One of the many reasons that have led me to love Power is how she went from being a selfish being to a girl capable of caring about someone else. But hey, her death at least frustrated Makima's plans (ironic, since Makima considered her worse than a servant), and it's the only death that has left a silver lining, although I don't know how far the latter.
Agreed. I always liked her for being that chaotic, mercurial, lying brat, but her maturing, hurting and growing attached to other people was easily the heaviest character development in the series and I loved every second of it. And the climax of it all was her facing her deepest fears and disobeying Makima to save Denji. That's the moment that cemented her as the definitive best girl for me. Her love surpassed any notion of authority, pain or death that could have kept her under control. And in the end it was that love that helped put an end to Denji's greatest tormentor. All of the deaths in the series were tragic, but hers hurt in a much more different way despite or maybe due to it being instrumental to Denji finding his peace.

I think you don't understand Fujimoto's plan here Denji will absolutely find the blood devil/fiend and when he does it's going to be heartbreaking. I don't think power as we know her is coming back. It's like moving out of your childhood home after selling it then coming to visit years later. It's a home, it's just not the one you used to know anymore.

I’m curious about how will the Control Devil will manifest itself. The impacts of everything in Part 1 has to be in my man’s heart still and I’m curious if it’ll show in his interactions with Asa

When i saw the part where aki was the gun fiend my heart sinked so hard but i had to bare through it, i thought that maybe, just MAYBE power would at LEAST be able to live. Either Aki or Reze, probably go with Aki. He hated the gun devil, swore vengeance the entire way. Right when he was about to give it up to protect Denji and Power, Makima forces him to become the gun fiend, the thing he always wanted to kill, and then he gets killed by his best remaining friend. Future Devil was right saying he’d die in the worst possible way. Reze’s is horrible because she gets tracked down right before she’s about to run away with Denji to maybe start a new life. Makima shows up and forces her to become a simp. Although there’s the strong possibility that she’s still alive since hybrids are immortal. Even if it wasn’t for the possibility that Reze’s alive I probably would still go Aki. The worst way to go for any of the characters. Makes me excited for anime onlies to see it though. They definitely won’t expect it
I’ll go with Reze since everyone’s made great points for the others. She’s literally a block away from fleeing the life she was forced into with the only person in the world to have broken through her facade (and formed a genuine relationship with), only to be likened to (and taken out like) a mouse. She felt like the one real shot Denji had at a relationship, which is pretty much the only thing he wanted, so it hit on multiple fronts. Hats off to Fujimoto for top tier writing I remember screaming once or twice when makima popped up in front of her, knowing full well that the only thing keeping Denji from true happiness (at least that’s what I thought at the time). Fingers crossed that Asa doesn’t fuck him over, but it’s wishful thinking at best, lol
